know_v arise_v upon_o the_o nonpayment_n of_o money_n and_o not_o performance_n of_o that_o which_o be_v due_a so_o because_o we_o have_v not_o render_v unto_o the_o lord_n that_o which_o be_v his_o due_n not_o pay_v he_o that_o service_n love_n honour_n obedience_n etc._n etc._n that_o we_o owe_v he_o be_v mighty_o behind_o with_o he_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o we_o come_v to_o be_v mighty_o indebt_v unto_o the_o lord_n be_v so_o far_o in_o arrearage_n unto_o he_o and_o so_o sin_n arise_v in_o the_o first_o place_n after_o the_o manner_n of_o a_o debt_n second_o it_o be_v compare_v to_o a_o debt_n because_o it_o bind_v we_o 〈◊〉_d to_o a_o debt_n for_o as_o a_o debt_n bind_v we_o either_o to_o payment_n or_o to_o punishment_n to_o content_v the_o party_n or_o to_o goâ—_n to_o prison_n so_o do_v our_o sin_n bind_v we_o either_o to_o content_v the_o lord_n in_o his_o justice_n or_o to_o undergo_v eternal_a damnation_n so_o that_o there_o be_v but_o one_o of_o two_o way_n to_o escape_v â—udgement_n either_o to_o content_v divine_a justice_n or_o to_o undergo_v punishment_n and_o yet_o the_o debt_n of_o sin_n be_v a_o worse_a debt_n than_o any_o other_o for_o it_o be_v not_o a_o money_n matter_n to_o be_v imprison_v for_o but_o this_o cast_v he_o into_o hell_n for_o ever_o and_o ever_o indeed_o the_o law_n have_v be_v strict_a for_o a_o man_n that_o make_v not_o payment_n of_o his_o debt_n be_v to_o be_v sell_v his_o wife_n his_o child_n and_o all_o he_o have_v among_o the_o parthian_n the_o law_n be_v more_o cruel_a for_o if_o thae_fw-la debt_n be_v not_o pay_v every_o creditor_n be_v to_o take_v away_o so_o much_o of_o his_o flesh_n as_o the_o debt_n come_v unto_o but_o these_o be_v course_n barbarous_a and_o cruel_a now_o by_o the_o law_n we_o see_v to_o be_v cast_v in_o prison_n be_v the_o punishment_n inflict_v for_o a_o debt_n but_o for_o the_o debt_n of_o sin_n we_o shall_v not_o only_o be_v cast_v into_o prison_n which_o be_v hell_n but_o there_o suffer_v pain_n and_o torment_n easeless_a and_o endless_a another_o thing_n be_v that_o sin_n be_v not_o like_o a_o debt_n we_o owe_v in_o this_o world_n for_o many_o a_o man_n though_o not_o able_a to_o pay_v his_o debt_n or_o not_o able_a to_o pay_v the_o interest_n for_o the_o time_n yet_o may_v devise_v some_o mean_n to_o avoid_v and_o shift_v it_o off_o by_o a_o trick_n pretend_v danger_n in_o the_o way_n or_o conscience_n in_o the_o business_n or_o if_o all_o fail_v he_o may_v die_v and_o then_o no_o body_n can_v compel_v he_o to_o pay_v the_o debt_n but_o no_o man_n in_o the_o world_n can_v shift_v off_o the_o debt_n of_o sin_n first_o because_o god_n be_v able_a to_o prove_v every_o debt_n that_o we_o owe_v he_o he_o have_v it_o in_o a_o book_n as_o job_n speak_v chap._n 18._o 23._o my_o iniquity_n be_v seal_v up_o as_o in_o a_o bag_n second_o we_o can_v sue_v for_o such_o a_o protection_n as_o the_o power_n of_o prince_n give_v in_o this_o world_n there_o be_v nothing_o able_a to_o protect_v we_o from_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v no_o fly_v away_o that_o will_v not_o help_v we_o neither_o for_o we_o can_v fly_v no_o where_o from_o the_o lord_n though_o we_o fly_v unto_o hell_n for_o say_v the_o prophet_n psal._n 139._o 7._o whither_o shall_v i_o go_v from_o thy_o spirit_n or_o whither_o shall_v i_o fly_v from_o thy_o 7._o presence_n if_o to_o heaven_n thou_o be_v there_o if_o to_o hell_n thou_o be_v there_o also_o if_o i_o take_v the_o wing_n of_o the_o morning_n and_o dwell_v in_o the_o outermost_a part_n of_o the_o sea_n even_o there_o shall_v thy_o hand_n lead_v i_o etc._n etc._n four_o death_n can_v free_v we_o from_o the_o debt_n of_o sin_n for_o howosever_v by_o death_n we_o be_v out_o of_o the_o usurer_n hand_n yet_o we_o can_v escape_v out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n therefore_o let_v we_o make_v this_o use_n of_o it_o fear_v he_o say_v our_o saviour_n that_o when_o he_o have_v kill_v the_o body_n can_v cast_v both_o soul_n and_o body_n into_o hell_n so_o that_o of_o all_o debt_n the_o debt_n of_o sin_n be_v the_o most_o grievous_a wherefore_o let_v we_o be_v careful_a above_o all_o thing_n to_o avoid_v and_o get_v out_o of_o this_o debt_n a_o man_n that_o love_v quietness_n and_o peace_n can_v abide_v to_o lover_n run_v in_o debt_n o_o how_o careful_a will_v he_o be_v to_o shun_v it_o he_o will_v live_v hardly_o and_o poor_o go_v thin_a and_o live_v of_o his_o
we_o whensoever_o we_o have_v sin_v against_o god_n the_o soul_n be_v out_o of_o joint_n the_o soon_o we_o shall_v find_v ease_n wound_n you_o undress_v know_v that_o be_v not_o by_o and_o by_o dress_v will_v rankle_v and_o fester_v so_o as_o the_o cure_n of_o they_o will_v be_v much_o more_o difficult_a and_o dangerous_a so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o wound_n of_o our_o sin_n if_o they_o be_v as_o we_o forgive_v other_o yet_o this_o can_v be_v a_o cause_n of_o god_n forgiveness_n but_o a_o condition_n only_o it_o can_v be_v no_o cause_n for_o as_o the_o schoolman_n say_v finiti_fw-la ad_fw-la infinitum_fw-la nulla_fw-la est_fw-la propertio_fw-la there_o be_v no_o proportion_n of_o the_o finite_a to_o the_o infinite_a thing_n and_o so_o no_o reason_n because_o we_o forgive_v our_o brethren_n some_o small_a matter_n that_o god_n shall_v forgive_v we_o the_o infinite_a debt_n we_o owe._n therefore_o no_o cause_n but_o a_o condition_n of_o it_o very_o reason_n will_v teach_v we_o this_o that_o it_o be_v in_o the_o power_n of_o the_o giver_n to_o prescribe_v upon_o what_o condition_n he_o give_v his_o gift_n as_o christ_n say_v to_o peter_n john_n 13._o 8._o unless_o 8._o i_o wash_v thou_o thou_o shall_v not_o be_v clean_o as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v i_o be_o content_a that_o thou_o have_v part_n with_o i_o in_o my_o kingdom_n and_o glory_n but_o yet_o there_o be_v a_o will_v have_v man_n have_v eternal_a life_n but_o when_o he_o hear_v the_o condition_n that_o he_o must_v leave_v all_o and_o follow_v christ_n in_o a_o poor_a estate_n he_o will_v not_o meddle_v with_o it_o but_o go_v away_o sorrowful_a so_o it_o be_v with_o the_o world_n still_o and_o so_o it_o be_v with_o most_o man_n they_o will_v have_v the_o blessing_n they_o will_v have_v life_n everlasting_a forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o like_a but_o they_o will_v none_o of_o the_o condition_n to_o forgive_v the_o offence_n of_o other_o but_o let_v we_o remember_v if_o we_o look_v to_o enjoy_v the_o lord_n blessing_n we_o must_v come_v to_o his_o condition_n we_o may_v not_o have_v they_o upon_o what_o term_n we_o will_v but_o be_v content_v to_o accept_v of_o they_o on_o what_o manner_n the_o lord_n will_v give_v they_o us._n now_o the_o condition_n that_o the_o lord_n give_v we_o be_v easie._n first_o easy_a to_o be_v do_v for_o the_o lord_n do_v not_o say_v man_n must_v content_v i_o for_o his_o sin_n let_v i_o have_v so_o many_o tear_n so_o much_o sorrow_n from_o thou_o proportionable_a to_o thy_o offence_n spend_v as_o many_o day_n in_o my_o service_n as_o thou_o have_v spend_v in_o the_o service_n of_o sin_n but_o what_o say_v he_o forgive_v forgive_v be_v ready_a and_o forgive_v other_o and_o thou_o shall_v ever_o find_v i_o more_o ready_a to_o forgive_v thou_o so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o easy_a condition_n which_o the_o lord_n prescribe_v o_o we_o may_v think_v it_o abundant_o well_o with_o we_o if_o we_o be_v able_a to_o purchase_v so_o excellent_a a_o mercy_n as_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n at_o any_o rate_n whatsoever_o yea_o though_o we_o buy_v it_o with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o pain_n and_o transitory_a good_n yea_o life_n itself_o but_o the_o lord_n let_v it_o come_v at_o a_o easy_a rate_n at_o such_o a_o poor_a price_n that_o it_o be_v wonderful_a he_o impose_v no_o more_o upon_o we_o then_o to_o forgive_v other_o this_o show_v his_o goodness_n love_n and_o mercy_n and_o all_o to_o make_v we_o confess_v the_o greatness_n of_o the_o same_o as_o naamans_n servant_n say_v unto_o his_o master_n if_o the_o prophet_n have_v command_v thou_o a_o servant_n great_a thing_n will_v thou_o not_o have_v do_v it_o for_o thy_o health_n but_o now_o only_o to_o wash_v and_o be_v clean_a what_o a_o thing_n be_v this_o so_o the_o lord_n may_v say_v have_v he_o prescribe_v we_o any_o difficult_a and_o hard_a matter_n for_o the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n will_v we_o not_o have_v be_v glad_a of_o it_o but_o now_o when_o he_o have_v impose_v so_o easy_a a_o task_n upon_o we_o as_o to_o forgive_v other_o what_o shall_v be_v say_v unto_o we_o if_o we_o neglect_v it_o second_o a_o condition_n profitable_a to_o ourselves_o of_o no_o profit_n to_o the_o lord_n at_o all_o what_o do_v he_o gain_v by_o our_o forgive_n ourselves_o of_o our_o brethren_n but_o all_o the_o profit_n redound_v unto_o ourselves_o both_o because_o we_o shall_v be_v the_o more_o gentle_a and_o fit_v unto_o goodness_n and_o many_o time_n by_o this_o mean_n we_o shall_v have_v the_o more_o favour_n and_o love_n by_o win_v many_o unto_o we_o in_o love_n and_o kindness_n god_n cause_v we_o find_v from_o other_o as_o they_o receive_v from_o we_o so_o gain_v some_o who_o neither_o sharpness_n threaten_n nor_o sorrow_n can_v reconcile_v look_v into_o the_o story_n of_o the_o aramite_n 2_o king_n 6._o 22._o when_o the_o king_n of_o israel_n have_v they_o 22._o in_o his_o power_n will_v have_v kill_v they_o no_o say_v elisha_n set_v bread_n and_o water_n before_o they_o that_o they_o may_v eat_v and_o drink_v and_o go_v to_o their_o master_n by_o which_o occasion_n the_o band_n of_o the_o aramite_n it_o be_v say_v come_v no_o more_o into_o the_o land_n of_o israel_n to_o annoy_v it_o so_o great_a profit_n come_v by_o this_o kindness_n and_o goodness_n so_o will_v it_o turn_v altogether_o to_o our_o profit_n and_o benefit_n if_o we_o can_v practise_v this_o duty_n in_o forgive_a of_o other_o three_o it_o be_v a_o condition_n which_o do_v much_o further_a and_o help_v we_o in_o the_o expectation_n and_o hope_n of_o blessing_n look_v for_o helpefull_a for_o if_o we_o who_o be_v but_o man_n that_o have_v but_o a_o drop_n of_o mercy_n can_v forgive_v our_o brethren_n we_o may_v well_o think_v that_o the_o lord_n who_o be_v the_o ocean_n and_o full_a sea_n of_o grace_n must_v and_o will_v be_v more_o ready_a to_o forgive_v us._n when_o we_o see_v the_o sun_n shine_v upon_o a_o wall_n we_o easy_o conceive_v that_o it_o wall_n shine_v more_o bright_o and_o glorious_o within_o his_o own_o orb_n so_o we_o find_v so_o much_o more_o mercy_n in_o ourselves_o to_o forgive_v our_o brethren_n may_v easy_o conceive_v that_o there_o be_v much_o more_o mercy_n in_o the_o lord_n to_o forgive_v we_o because_o he_o be_v the_o very_a fountain_n of_o all_o that_o mercy_n and_o forgiveness_n we_o show_v to_o other_o thus_o as_o the_o blessing_n be_v conditional_a so_o must_v we_o perform_v the_o condition_n if_o we_o hope_v for_o god_n favour_n quest_n here_o come_v a_o question_n to_o be_v answer_v why_o of_o all_o other_o duty_n do_v the_o lord_n prescribe_v this_o condition_n unto_o us._n ans._n because_o by_o all_o mean_v he_o will_v nourish_v and_o preserve_v love_n among_o we_o as_o much_o rend_v the_o sweet_a bond_n of_o brotherly_a society_n wherein_o the_o devil_n have_v play_v his_o part_n by_o bring_v into_o the_o world_n division_n and_o dissension_n among_o we_o the_o lord_n in_o his_o love_n seek_v to_o unite_v and_o draw_v we_o into_o one_o therefore_o of_o all_o condition_n impose_v this_o of_o love_n upon_o we_o that_o if_o the_o love_n of_o
god_n do_v we_o good_a we_o may_v be_v please_v to_o do_v good_a one_o to_o another_o by_o this_o golden_a chain_n he_o seek_v to_o link_v and_o tie_v the_o whole_a world_n together_o therefore_o we_o shall_v by_o all_o mean_n shun_v anger_n and_o matter_n of_o offence_n christian_n shall_v be_v like_o rootes_n well_o grow_v rootes_n which_o though_o many_o time_n they_o be_v divide_v and_o part_v yet_o by_o and_o by_o they_o do_v shut_v so_o close_o that_o no_o body_n can_v see_v the_o seam_n where_o the_o rent_n be_v or_o the_o division_n so_o among_o christian_n howsoever_o it_o can_v be_v but_o in_o this_o frailty_n of_o life_n contention_n and_o jar_n will_v fall_v out_o among_o we_o yet_o must_v we_o shut_v again_o so_o close_o yea_o clasp_v one_o another_o so_o fast_o as_o no_o body_n may_v perceive_v who_o have_v offend_v now_o in_o the_o condition_n itself_o we_o may_v consider_v two_o thing_n 1_o the_o duty_n which_o be_v to_o forgive_v our_o debtor_n 2_o the_o quality_n we_o must_v forgive_v they_o as_o god_n forgive_v us._n duty_n by_o debtor_n first_o be_v mean_v such_o as_o have_v sin_v and_o offend_v against_o we_o for_o by_o debtor_n our_o saviour_n christ_n do_v not_o mean_v such_o as_o owe_v we_o a_o money_n debt_n for_o a_o man_n may_v crave_v forgiveness_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o require_v a_o money_n debt_n of_o his_o brother_n indeed_o in_o case_n of_o miserable_a extremity_n when_o a_o man_n be_v insufficient_a and_o cast_v behind_o hand_n by_o inevitable_a mean_n than_o a_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o forgive_v a_o money_n debt_n for_o the_o prophet_n isa._n 58._o 3._o among_o 3._o other_o sin_n upbraid_v the_o people_n with_o this_o as_o a_o main_a great_a one_o you_o will_v require_v all_o your_o labour_n as_o debt_n but_o out_o of_o this_o case_n of_o extremity_n with_o a_o safe_a conscience_n we_o may_v ask_v a_o money_n debt_n for_o so_o when_o one_o of_o the_o prophet_n lose_v his_o axe_n he_o cry_v out_o it_o be_v but_o love_n to_o which_o i_o may_v add_v that_o by_o solomon_n it_o be_v make_v a_o note_n of_o the_o wicked_a to_o borrow_v and_o not_o to_o pay_v again_o so_o that_o it_o be_v clear_a by_o debtor_n our_o saviour_n christ_n mean_v such_o as_o be_v indebt_v to_o we_o in_o the_o debt_n of_o sin_n who_o we_o must_v forgive_v as_o the_o lord_n forgive_v us._n as_o the_o apostle_n exhort_v coloss._n chap._n 3._o vers_fw-la 11_o 12._o put_v on_o tender_a mercy_n kindness_n etc._n etc._n forbear_v one_o another_o and_o forgive_a one_o 12._o another_o as_o god_n forgive_v we_o which_o be_v the_o second_o forgive_v our_o brethren_n and_o not_o make_v a_o show_n of_o forgiveness_n keep_v rancour_n and_o malice_n in_o our_o heart_n like_o cain_n who_o speak_v kind_o to_o his_o brother_n but_o when_o he_o have_v 4._o he_o in_o the_o field_n fall_v upon_o he_o and_o kill_v he_o matth._n 33._o 18._o 33._o except_o you_o forgive_v from_o your_o heart_n your_o brother_n say_v our_o saviour_n you_o shall_v all_o our_o sin_n not_o our_o small_a reserve_v the_o great_a but_o general_o all_o and_o of_o all_o sort_n whatsoever_o they_o be_v so_o must_v we_o do_v by_o our_o brethren_n forgive_v they_o in_o all_o wherein_o they_o have_v offend_v we_o we_o must_v not_o keep_v any_o secret_a fault_n in_o store_n but_o pass_v by_o and_o forgive_v all_o less_o and_o more_o but_o such_o be_v the_o custom_n of_o the_o world_n that_o general_o they_o can_v be_v content_a to_o say_v i_o will_v forgive_v but_o the_o matter_n be_v so_o great_a concern_v i_o so_o near_o touch_v my_o good_a name_n my_o
