the_o bountiful_a and_o rich_a mercy_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o that_o the_o lord_n offer_v we_o so_o many_o heavenly_a excellency_n and_o comfort_n with_o one_o hand_n for_o in_o this_o one_o we_o go_v whither_o we_o will_v and_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n he_o shall_v say_v depart_v from_o meye_n curse_a i_o know_v you_o not_o i_o offer_v you_o such_o and_o such_o mean_n of_o think_v that_o he_o tender_v his_o temporal_a glory_n more_o than_o god_n do_v his_o infinite_a glory_n if_o god_n

when_o they_o come_v to_o the_o lord_n table_n happy_o when_o any_o affliction_n or_o cross_n or_o extremity_n come_v upon_o they_o when_o they_o have_v any_o pang_n or_o torment_v of_o conscience_n come_v unto_o they_o for_o their_o sin_n then_o happy_o they_o will_v entertain_v the_o remembrance_n and_o the_o thought_n of_o christ_n death_n but_o they_o can_v endure_v to_o make_v it_o their_o continual_a task_n which_o be_v the_o duty_n here_o press_v upon_o we_o these_o man_n must_v know_v that_o god_n do_v not_o love_n to_o be_v serve_v by_o spirit_n and_o fit_n whatsoever_o we_o do_v in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n let_v we_o do_v it_o sound_o and_o constant_o god_n can_v endure_v such_o service_n as_o they_o be_v god_n require_v entire_a obedience_n that_o we_o shall_v obey_v he_o in_o all_o our_o course_n and_o that_o at_o all_o time_n especial_o when_o just_a occasion_n of_o any_o duty_n be_v offer_v unto_o we_o now_o then_o see_v just_a occasion_n be_v daily_o offer_v that_o we_o shall_v always_o be_v meditate_v and_o our_o heart_n run_v upon_o the_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n therefore_o god_n require_v it_o at_o our_o hand_n that_o we_o shall_v always_o remember_v it_o this_o fire_n shall_v never_o go_v out_o of_o our_o heart_n it_o must_v glow_v and_o burn_v within_o we_o night_n and_o day_n it_o be_v fit_a that_o god_n child_n shall_v have_v some_o set_a time_n when_o they_o shall_v enter_v into_o a_o serious_a meditation_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o yet_o not_o to_o think_v ourselves_o acquit_v if_o we_o do_v it_o only_o then_o but_o that_o that_o shall_v prepare_v we_o to_o remember_v it_o ever_o after_o as_o we_o show_v before_o in_o our_o bodily_a repast_n a_o second_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v this_o use_v 2_o here_o be_v matter_n of_o trial_n for_o we_o whereby_o we_o may_v know_v ourselves_o whether_o we_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n or_o no_o whether_o we_o do_v true_o profess_v the_o faith_n of_o christ_n as_o we_o ought_v to_o do_v all_o of_o we_o profess_v christ_n religion_n we_o know_v we_o can_v have_v no_o part_n in_o christ_n except_o we_o have_v part_n in_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o we_o know_v we_o can_v have_v no_o part_n in_o his_o death_n except_o it_o be_v remember_v of_o we_o and_o apply_v unto_o we_o in_o our_o continual_a meditation_n therefore_o let_v we_o conclude_v this_o that_o so_o many_o of_o we_o as_o profess_v religion_n if_o we_o do_v not_o apply_v the_o death_n of_o christ_n to_o ourselves_o from_o time_n to_o time_n by_o due_a meditation_n whatsoever_o we_o profess_v sure_o we_o profess_v in_o vain_a and_o this_o will_v be_v a_o witness_n against_o we_o that_o we_o be_v not_o the_o true_a child_n of_o god_n if_o so_o be_v that_o you_o will_v learn_v how_o you_o may_v come_v to_o know_v whether_o you_o have_v the_o right_a remembrance_n of_o the_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n within_o you_o learn_v it_o by_o these_o two_o or_o three_o mark_n see_v it_o in_o the_o morning_n when_o you_o awake_v do_v you_o find_v your_o heart_n season_v with_o good_a thought_n of_o the_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n with_o thought_n concern_v forgiveness_n and_o mortification_n and_o reconciliation_n to_o god_n and_o likewise_o if_o you_o have_v these_o thought_n or_o the_o like_a at_o night_n when_o you_o go_v to_o bed_n this_o be_v a_o certain_a evidence_n that_o your_o soul_n be_v season_v with_o the_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n again_o when_o we_o be_v in_o the_o duty_n of_o our_o call_n all_o the_o day_n long_o we_o must_v still_o have_v our_o heart_n lift_v up_o and_o settle_v upon_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o our_o thought_n must_v be_v run_v upon_o our_o justification_n and_o our_o sanctification_n and_o our_o conformity_n to_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n yea_o in_o our_o very_a mirth_n we_o must_v still_o prefer_v jerusalem_n when_o we_o be_v in_o our_o great_a mirth_n in_o our_o honest_a recreation_n for_o those_o that_o be_v unhonest_a there_o be_v no_o hope_n of_o any_o spiritual_a comfort_n in_o they_o but_o in_o our_o honest_a recreation_n do_v we_o prefer_v the_o death_n jesus_n christ_n before_o all_o those_o thing_n that_o we_o for_o a_o while_o do_v solace_v ourselves_o withal_o especial_o in_o the_o use_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n in_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o before_o our_o eye_n when_o we_o come_v to_o the_o receive_n of_o the_o sacrament_n be_v it_o our_o chief_a practice_n to_o remember_v christ_n crucify_v affectionate_o and_o to_o have_v our_o heart_n thorough_o season_v with_o the_o power_n of_o his_o death_n these_o be_v undoubted_a sign_n and_o assurance_n unto_o we_o that_o we_o have_v our_o part_n in_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n use_v 3_o a_o it_o at_o all_o and_o howsoever_o it_o be_v free_a and_o far_o from_o all_o idolatry_n among_o we_o yet_o sure_o if_o it_o have_v creep_v within_o the_o sacrament_n of_o baptism_n as_o it_o do_v creep_v within_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n i_o make_v no_o question_n but_o our_o state_n be_v religious_a and_o wise_a will_v have_v utter_o cast_v it_o out_o from_o the_o one_o sacrament_n aswell_o as_o from_o the_o other_o but_o i_o say_v they_o stain_v this_o sacrament_n by_o admit_v of_o the_o cross_n into_o the_o lord_n supper_n but_o that_o be_v not_o the_o worst_a they_o go_v further_o they_o maim_v this_o bless_a sacrament_n they_o make_v this_o communion_n but_o half_a a_o communion_n they_o deprive_v the_o people_n of_o the_o cup_n let_v they_o have_v the_o bread_n and_o much_o good_a may_v it_o do_v they_o but_o they_o shall_v have_v no_o wine_n but_o our_o saviour_n say_v eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n he_o give_v they_o bread_n and_o wine_n to_o eat_v and_o to_o drink_v and_o thus_o do_v he_o leave_v this_o ordinance_n to_o be_v observe_v by_o they_o now_o if_o the_o papist_n shall_v come_v and_o deprive_v the_o people_n of_o one_o half_a of_o this_o communion_n the_o servant_n show_v himself_o to_o be_v envious_a where_o the_o lord_n have_v show_v himself_o bountiful_a the_o lord_n have_v give_v they_o both_o kind_n and_o the_o papist_n give_v they_o but_o one_o nay_o what_o will_v you_o say_v if_o they_o overthrow_v this_o sacrament_n utter_o sure_o they_o do_v for_o they_o turn_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n they_o have_v turn_v into_o a_o profane_a and_o gross_a idol_n they_o hold_v it_o very_o to_o be_v a_o god_n and_o if_o this_o be_v not_o to_o overthrow_v the_o nature_n of_o the_o sacrament_n i_o know_v not_o what_o be_v use_v 3_o another_o use_n be_v this_o here_o be_v matter_n of_o confirmation_n arise_v hence_o that_o be_v concern_v the_o perpetual_a visiblenesse_n of_o the_o church_n upon_o the_o earth_n it_o shall_v be_v perpetual_o visible_a upon_o the_o earth_n so_o long_o as_o the_o world_n stand_v where_o the_o sacrament_n be_v to_o be_v administer_v there_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o visible_a church_n the_o sacrament_n be_v still_o in_o use_n and_o therefore_o the_o church_n shall_v still_o continue_v visible_a the_o papist_n do_v we_o wrong_n when_o they_o charge_v we_o that_o we_o hold_v the_o church_n be_v invisible_a or_o that_o at_o some_o time_n it_o be_v not_o visible_a at_o all_o true_a in_o some_o sense_n it_o be_v so_o and_o the_o scripture_n speak_v so_o and_o some_o of_o the_o papist_n themselves_o do_v speak_v as_o much_o but_o yet_o not_o in_o that_o sense_n as_o they_o charge_v we_o withal_o the_o church_n be_v sometime_o so_o obscure_v and_o eclipse_v that_o it_o be_v invisible_a that_o be_v to_o say_v that_o the_o world_n can_v see_v it_o and_o take_v public_a notice_n of_o it_o but_o yet_o be_v it_o never_o so_o darken_v but_o that_o one_o professor_n know_v another_o and_o they_o do_v meet_v together_o though_o sometime_o happy_o but_o two_o or_o three_o or_o a_o few_o in_o the_o use_n of_o god_n save_v ordinance_n god_n never_o want_v his_o church_n in_o one_o place_n or_o another_o the_o gate_n of_o hell_n shall_v never_o prevail_v against_o it_o use_v 4_o a_o four_o use_n here_o be_v matter_n of_o instruction_n many_o instruction_n to_o many_o duty_n first_o this_o call_v upon_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v behold_v and_o consider_v and_o take_v to_o heart_n the_o wonderful_a care_n and_o the_o provident_a love_n that_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n have_v over_o his_o church_n that_o do_v not_o content_v himself_o to_o furnish_v his_o church_n with_o sufficient_a spiritual_a maintenance_n and_o food_n so_o long_o as_o he_o live_v here_o himself_o but_o take_v order_n for_o it_o while_o he_o be_v here_o that_o the_o church_n shall_v be_v maintain_v and_o shall_v have_v as_o good_a a_o portion_n after_o his_o death_n as_o it_o do_v enjoy_v in_o his_o life_n time_n as_o if_o so_o be_v our_o saviour_n shall_v say_v and_o thus_o resolve_v with_o himself_o nay_o though_o i_o myself_o die_v yet_o my_o and_o christ_n be_v her_o love_a husband_n love_v it_o most_o dear_o most_o tender_o and_o most_o affectionate_o and_o therefore_o he_o have_v not_o only_o provide_v mean_n of_o maintenance_n for_o the_o time_n he_o live_v here_o upon_o earth_n but_o now_o also_o that_o he_o be_v absent_a that_o he_o be_v dead_a and_o go_v from_o they_o still_o their_o maintenance_n that_o continue_v he_o be_v a_o faithless_a housekeeper_n that_o provide_v only_o for_o his_o family_n so_o long_o as_o he_o be_v with_o they_o and_o let_v they_o starve_v or_o shift_v for_o themselves_o when_o he_o be_v go_v to_o have_v their_o sin_n forgive_v and_o where_o shall_v they_o plead_v for_o mercy_n they_o must_v plead_v it_o in_o christ_n and_o in_o none_o else_o in_o christ_n they_o can_v plead_v it_o for_o they_o can_v plead_v the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o in_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n christ_n die_v but_o once_o he_o suffer_v and_o be_v crucify_v but_o once_o and_o can_v die_v again_o and_o therefore_o as_o many_o of_o we_o as_o have_v take_v the_o professsion_n of_o christ_n upon_o we_o look_v that_o we_o do_v not_o let_v go_v this_o holy_a and_o heavenly_a profession_n but_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o stick_v fast_o to_o christ_n to_o his_o death_n and_o blood_n and_o then_o thou_o may_v be_v sure_a that_o the_o work_n of_o thy_o redemption_n
i_o the_o conferrence_n of_o both_o these_o speech_n together_o minister_v this_o profitable_a observation_n namely_o that_o the_o true_a and_o right_a remembrance_n of_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n be_v our_o affectionate_a and_o religious_a remembrance_n of_o the_o death_n of_o our_o saviour_n christ_n remember_v i_o say_v christ_n verse_n 25._o that_o be_v say_v paul_n the_o lord_n death_n verse_n 26._o remember_v it_o so_o that_o you_o show_v it_o forth_o that_o be_v religious_o and_o affectionate_o zach._n 12.10_o i_o will_v pour_v upon_o the_o house_n of_o david_n and_o upon_o the_o inhabitant_n of_o jerusalem_n the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n etc._n etc._n there_o be_v a_o promise_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o be_v pour_v down_o on_o the_o faithful_a under_o the_o gospel_n their_o first_o bear_v here_o then_o be_v the_o right_a remembrance_n of_o christ_n that_o be_v our_o affectionate_a and_o religious_a remembrance_n of_o the_o pierce_a and_o death_n of_o christ_n rev._n 13.8_o christ_n jesus_n be_v the_o lamb_n of_o god_n that_o take_v away_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n but_o how_o do_v the_o faithful_a who_o name_n be_v write_v in_o the_o lamb_n book_n bring_v upon_o christ_n and_o yet_o these_o very_a suffering_n of_o christ_n shall_v break_v and_o destroy_v all_o their_o power_n this_o be_v adam_n and_o all_o the_o faithful_a to_o believe_v of_o christ_n and_o this_o be_v their_o true_a and_o right_a remembrance_n of_o christ_n this_o be_v shadow_v in_o the_o sacrifice_n before_o the_o law_n as_o in_o the_o passeover_n exod._n 12.6_o 7._o they_o shall_v kill_v it_o and_o strike_v the_o blood_n on_o the_o two_o post_n etc._n etc._n what_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o we_o must_v carry_v the_o stream_n of_o our_o meditation_n on_o christ_n towards_o his_o kill_n and_o death_n and_o blood_n and_o so_o under_o the_o law_n heb._n 9.22_o almost_o all_o thing_n be_v by_o the_o law_n purge_v with_o blood_n what_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o this_o that_o all_o that_o believe_v in_o chrit_v be_v thereby_o admonish_v still_o to_o have_v the_o eye_n of_o their_o mind_n settle_v on_o the_o meditation_n of_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n if_o ever_o they_o look_v to_o be_v purge_v from_o their_o sin_n by_o christ_n they_o must_v be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n so_o the_o prophet_n set_v forth_o christ_n in_o this_o manner_n esay_n 53._o from_o the_o first_o to_o the_o seven_o verse_n he_o that_o of_o all_o the_o prophet_n speak_v most_o plain_o of_o he_o set_v he_o forth_o principal_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o death_n as_o he_o be_v wound_v and_o break_v and_o oppress_v and_o affict_v the_o prophet_n leave_v they_o the_o best_a memorial_n of_o christ_n and_o therefore_o he_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n the_o apostle_n observe_v the_o same_o rule_n 1_o cor._n 17.3_o first_o of_o all_o i_o deliver_v unto_o you_o how_o that_o christ_n die_v for_o our_o sin_n no_o doubt_n but_o can_v proper_o be_v say_v to_o be_v please_v with_o his_o son_n at_o any_o one_o time_n more_o than_o another_o but_o we_o speak_v it_o after_o the_o manner_n of_o man_n and_o by_o way_n of_o supposal_n if_o ever_o god_n can_v be_v better_o please_v with_o he_o at_o one_o time_n than_o at_o another_o it_o be_v at_o his_o death_n ephes_n 5.2_o than_o he_o be_v a_o offering_n and_o a_o sacrifice_n of_o a_o sweet_a smell_a savour_n to_o god_n i_o but_o you_o will_v say_v than_o god_n be_v most_o angry_a with_o he_o pour_v on_o he_o his_o fierce_a wrath_n and_o vengeance_n from_o as_o thou_o shall_v remember_v he_o he_o that_o can_v once_o speak_v by_o experience_n in_o his_o own_o heart_n as_o the_o apostle_n do_v gal._n 1.20_o that_o christ_n have_v love_v i_o and_o give_v himself_o for_o i_o will_v empty_v himself_o also_o and_o say_v as_o the_o apostle_n do_v i_o live_v and_o yet_o not_o i_o now_o but_o christ_n jesus_n live_v within_o i_o his_o love_n to_o we_o in_o die_v for_o we_o stir_v up_o our_o love_n to_o he_o in_o die_v with_o he_o and_o as_o the_o nature_n of_o true_a love_n be_v to_o transanimate_a or_o transform_v the_o lover_n into_o the_o thing_n love_v so_o we_o be_v turn_v as_o it_o be_v into_o christ_n we_o live_v not_o but_o he_o live_v in_o we_o and_o sure_o we_o can_v never_o be_v persuade_v to_o give_v over_o ourselves_o thorough_o to_o god_n service_n till_o we_o be_v bring_v unto_o it_o by_o the_o thorough_a meditation_n and_o remembrance_n of_o christ_n death_n three_o therein_o christ_n have_v be_v most_o beneficial_a to_o we_o and_o wherein_o be_v he_o most_o worthy_a of_o our_o remembrance_n but_o in_o that_o whereby_o we_o have_v most_o benefit_n by_o he_o and_o that_o be_v his_o blood_n or_o his_o death_n we_o have_v reconciliation_n by_o his_o blood_n rom._n 3.23_o redemption_n by_o his_o blood_n heb._n 9.12_o and_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n by_o his_o blood_n 1_o john_n 1.7_o all_o good_a thing_n temporal_a and_o eternal_a be_v purchase_v to_o we_o by_o the_o merit_n of_o his_o death_n and_o contrary_a all_o evil_a thing_n be_v thereby_o turn_v away_o why_o do_v we_o remember_v christ_n not_o because_o of_o it_o be_v their_o very_a hour_n to_o be_v destroy_v and_o his_o very_a hour_n to_o triumph_v over_o they_o as_o our_o saviour_n himself_o speak_v of_o his_o death_n show_v plain_o john_n 12.31_o now_o be_v the_o judgement_n of_o this_o world_n now_o shall_v the_o prince_n of_o this_o world_n be_v cast_v out_o if_o there_o be_v a_o champion_n that_o shall_v undertake_v a_o combat_n for_o we_o and_o for_o our_o heart_n to_o be_v set_v upon_o in_o the_o remembrance_n of_o christ_n the_o use_v the_o first_o use_n serve_v for_o reproof_n of_o those_o that_o be_v so_o nice_a and_o dainty_a that_o they_o can_v endure_v to_o meditate_v on_o christ_n death_n the_o matter_n of_o his_o resurrection_n and_o ascension_n and_o glorification_n be_v please_v unto_o they_o but_o the_o matter_n of_o his_o death_n that_o be_v harsh_a and_o distasteful_a all_o of_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o go_v with_o christ_n to_o mount_n tabor_n where_o he_o be_v transfigure_v that_o we_o may_v see_v his_o glory_n but_o we_o be_v loath_a to_o go_v with_o he_o to_o mount_v calvery_n where_o he_o be_v crucify_v to_o taste_v of_o his_o suffering_n the_o jew_n bewray_v this_o humour_n in_o the_o corrupt_a nature_n of_o man_n when_o they_o say_v let_v he_o come_v down_o from_o the_o cross_n and_o we_o will_v believe_v in_o he_o if_o christ_n can_v be_v separate_v from_o his_o cross_n and_o suffering_n and_o from_o his_o death_n general_o all_o will_v be_v forward_o enough_o to_o take_v hold_n upon_o but_o let_v we_o know_v that_o except_o we_o have_v our_o part_n in_o christ_n crucify_v we_o shall_v never_o have_v our_o part_n in_o christ_n glorify_v the_o cross_n of_o christ_n be_v his_o way_n to_o glory_n and_o our_o due_a meditation_n and_o participation_n on_o his_o cross_n be_v the_o only_a way_n for_o we_o to_o come_v to_o the_o participation_n of_o his_o glory_n but_o some_o will_v say_v to_o think_v upon_o christ_n crucify_v and_o slay_v and_o murder_v and_o torment_v these_o be_v bloody_a thought_n how_o shall_v we_o digest_v they_o i_o answer_v first_o it_o be_v needful_a for_o we_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v possess_v with_o such_o bloody_a thought_n that_o thereby_o we_o may_v be_v bring_v to_o see_v and_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o ugliness_n and_o fearfulness_n of_o our_o sin_n but_o second_o we_o do_v not_o dwell_v in_o the_o gross_a and_o carnal_a meditation_n of_o his_o wound_n and_o bloodshedding_n as_o the_o papist_n do_v but_o we_o be_v spiritual_o mind_v in_o the_o meditation_n of_o his_o death_n and_o therein_o we_o behold_v god_n decree_n in_o give_v his_o son_n for_o our_o redemption_n &_o his_o wrath_n against_o sin_n and_o his_o mercy_n to_o we_o in_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o this_o be_v it_o that_o make_v our_o meditation_n and_o thought_n of_o christ_n death_n to_o be_v most_o comfortable_a and_o heavenly_a thought_n second_o this_o teach_v we_o that_o we_o shall_v labour_v to_o be_v skilful_a and_o well_o practise_v in_o the_o meditation_n of_o christ_n death_n and_o to_o have_v our_o eye_n continual_o upon_o christ_n crucify_v that_o which_o our_o saviour_n say_v to_o thomas_n john_n 20.27_o put_v thy_o finger_n here_o and_o see_v my_o hand_n and_o put_v it_o forth_o and_o put_v it_o into_o my_o side_n though_o it_o be_v speak_v there_o of_o his_o material_a wound_n yet_o every_o one_o of_o we_o must_v take_v it_o spiritual_o to_o be_v speak_v to_o ourselves_o we_o must_v put_v our_o finger_n &_o our_o hand_n into_o the_o hole_n of_o his_o side_n we_o must_v dive_v deep_a by_o our_o meditation_n into_o the_o secret_a mystery_n of_o his_o death_n that_o thereby_o we_o may_v become_v his_o true_a believe_a disciple_n the_o death_n of_o jesus_n christ_n be_v of_o all_o other_o thing_n most_o serviceable_a and_o profitable_a and_o comfortable_a to_o we_o even_o in_o respect_n of_o all_o the_o part_n of_o religion_n will_v thou_o behold_v the_o love_n of_o god_n towards_o thou_o and_o know_v how_o dear_o he_o love_v thou_o see_v it_o in_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n god_n have_v give_v his_o son_n not_o only_o to_o become_v man_n for_o we_o but_o even_o to_o die_v for_o we_o and_o to_o endure_v the_o great_a extremity_n for_o we_o that_o ever_o can_v be_v think_v upon_o here_o be_v a_o clear_a glass_n wherein_o we_o may_v behold_v the_o height_n and_o the_o depth_n and_o the_o
