let_v they_o in_o and_o presume_v no_o doubt_n upon_o have_v a_o peculiar_a interest_n in_o he_o if_o not_o some_o relation_n to_o he_o as_o many_o do_v to_o christ_n yet_o all_o will_v not_o do_v without_o timely_a preparation_n and_o have_v oil_n in_o their_o lamp_n i.e._n grace_n and_o virtue_n in_o their_o heart_n the_o door_n be_v shut_v and_o all_o their_o cry_n will_v not_o open_v it_o and_o though_o they_o call_v the_o bridegroom_n lord_n lord_n and_o have_v some_o pretend_a acquaintance_n or_o friendship_n with_o he_o and_o repose_v some_o trust_n and_o confidence_n in_o he_o yet_o all_o be_v in_o vain_a and_o to_o no_o purpose_n without_o due_a qualification_n in_o themselves_o his_o answer_n be_v i_o know_v you_o not_o as_o christ_n will_n be_v at_o the_o last_o day_n to_o those_o wicked_a man_n who_o yet_o put_v mighty_a hope_n in_o he_o and_o trust_v and_o rely_v very_o strong_o upon_o he_o for_o salvation_n and_o think_v they_o have_v some_o claim_n and_o pretence_n to_o his_o special_a love_n and_o favour_n and_o call_v he_o lord_n lord_n saviour_n saviour_n and_o the_o like_a but_o yet_o if_o they_o have_v not_o do_v the_o will_n of_o his_o heavenly_a father_n in_o their_o life_n do_v their_o duty_n and_o make_v themselves_o fit_a for_o heaven_n he_o will_v profess_v unto_o they_o i_o never_o know_v you_o depart_v from_o i_o you_o that_o work_n iniquity_n matth._n 7.22_o 23._o earnest_a and_o importunate_a prayer_n be_v very_a prevail_a application_n to_o god_n when_o the_o thing_n be_v fit_a to_o be_v grant_v and_o we_o fit_a to_o receive_v it_o and_o when_o god_n can_v with_o consistency_n to_o his_o wisdom_n and_o justice_n and_o other_o attribute_n bestow_v the_o favour_n we_o ask_v of_o he_o and_o it_o be_v according_a to_o the_o promise_n he_o have_v make_v to_o we_o so_o that_o we_o can_v ask_v in_o faith_n and_o have_v good_a reason_n to_o believe_v it_o shall_v not_o be_v deny_v because_o there_o be_v no_o bar_n or_o just_a cause_n either_o in_o god_n or_o ourselves_o to_o hinder_v it_o than_o we_o shall_v be_v certain_o sure_a of_o it_o and_o god_n will_v always_o give_v to_o those_o who_o thus_o ask_v he_o but_o it_o be_v not_o our_o unreasonable_a though_o never_o so_o importunate_a prayer_n that_o will_v make_v god_n do_v a_o unfit_a or_o unreasonable_a thing_n or_o prevail_v with_o he_o to_o break_v the_o rule_n of_o his_o wisdom_n and_o justice_n or_o out_o of_o pity_n and_o tenderness_n violate_v the_o stand_a wise_a method_n of_o his_o providence_n and_o government_n pity_n and_o compassion_n be_v not_o a_o weak_a passion_n in_o god_n as_o it_o be_v in_o man_n who_o be_v in_o pain_n to_o see_v another_o fall_n into_o such_o a_o misery_n as_o they_o be_v subject_a to_o themselves_o and_o which_o may_v as_o well_o fall_v upon_o they_o and_o therefore_o they_o have_v a_o fellow-feeling_n of_o it_o because_o it_o touch_v they_o with_o the_o quick_a thought_n of_o their_o own_o frailty_n and_o liableness_n to_o it_o but_o god_n be_v subject_a to_o no_o such_o weakness_n and_o uneasiness_n and_o therefore_o pity_v in_o he_o be_v but_o a_o wise_a exercise_n or_o effect_v of_o his_o goodness_n whereby_o he_o be_v incline_v to_o inflict_v as_o little_a evil_n and_o do_v as_o much_o good_a to_o his_o creature_n as_o the_o capacity_n of_o their_o nature_n and_o the_o perfection_n of_o his_o own_o will_v admit_v shall_v a_o wise_a and_o good_a governor_n out_o of_o weak_a pity_n and_o commiseration_n to_o the_o cry_n and_o lamentation_n of_o condemn_a prisoner_n and_o die_a malefactor_n stop_v the_o course_n of_o justice_n and_o suspend_v the_o execution_n of_o wholesome_a and_o necessary_a law_n he_o will_v destroy_v his_o government_n by_o his_o easiness_n and_o bring_v a_o thousand_o time_n more_o mischief_n to_o the_o public_a and_o so_o his_o pity_n instead_o of_o a_o virtue_n will_v become_v both_o imprudence_n and_o cruelty_n in_o the_o high_a degree_n god_n as_o he_o be_v pityful_a and_o mercyful_a so_o he_o be_v wise_a and_o just_a too_o and_o will_v not_o break_v the_o stand_a rule_n of_o the_o gospel_n nor_o the_o wise_a measure_n of_o his_o divine_a government_n by_o which_o he_o impartial_o distribute_v reward_n and_o punishment_n according_a to_o man_n work_n out_o of_o any_o fond_a consideration_n to_o any_o man_n particular_a case_n he_o will_v not_o he_o can_v act_v contrary_a to_o the_o unalterable_a rule_n of_o justice_n either_o in_o punish_v the_o innocent_a or_o clear_v and_o let_v the_o guilty_a go_v free_a he_o must_v lay_v
