treatise_n the_o design_n whereof_o be_v to_o excite_v parent_n and_o master_n of_o family_n to_o train_v up_o their_o child_n in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o obedience_n of_o the_o scripture_n i_o shall_v do_v these_o four_o thing_n 1._o i_o shall_v prove_v it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o parent_n and_o master_n of_o family_n to_o instruct_v their_o child_n and_o servant_n in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o to_o train_v they_o up_o in_o the_o obedience_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n 2._o i_o shall_v produce_v some_o motive_n to_o excite_v those_o who_o neglect_v this_o work_n of_o family-instruction_n to_o be_v diligent_a constant_a and_o conscientious_a in_o the_o performance_n of_o their_o duty_n in_o teach_v and_o instruct_v their_o family_n 3._o i_o shall_v give_v some_o direction_n how_o this_o work_n of_o family-instruction_n may_v be_v carry_v on_o so_o as_o to_o promote_v the_o conversion_n edification_n and_o eternal_a salvation_n of_o such_o as_o be_v under_o our_o charge_n 4._o i_o shall_v answer_v the_o most_o material_a plea_n and_o objection_n that_o be_v bring_v against_o train_v up_o our_o family_n in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o scripture_n whereby_o many_o person_n be_v either_o keep_v from_o or_o discourage_v in_o the_o performance_n of_o this_o work_n i_o shall_v begin_v with_o the_o first_o of_o these_o namely_o to_o prove_v that_o it_o be_v the_o duty_n of_o all_o parent_n and_o master_n of_o family_n to_o teach_v the_o scripture_n unto_o their_o child_n and_o servant_n and_o to_o train_v up_o their_o family_n in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o obedience_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n sect_n 1._o scripture_n proof_n for_o family-instruction_n the_o instruction_n we_o give_v our_o family_n must_v be_v draw_v out_o of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n arg._n 1_o we_o have_v many_o plain_a and_o express_v commandment_n from_o god_n wherein_o the_o lord_n straight_o charge_v all_o parent_n and_o master_n of_o family_n to_o teach_v his_o word_n unto_o their_o child_n and_o servant_n and_o require_v they_o to_o be_v very_o diligent_a therein_o i_o shall_v mention_v some_o place_n both_o out_o of_o the_o old_a and_o also_o out_o of_o the_o new_a testament_n where_o we_o have_v express_v command_n from_o god_n for_o the_o teach_v his_o word_n to_o our_o child_n and_o prove_v that_o under_o the_o name_n of_o child_n be_v comprehend_v our_o servant_n and_o all_o the_o member_n of_o the_o family_n deut._n 6.6_o 7._o and_o these_o word_n which_o i_o command_v thou_o this_o day_n shall_v be_v in_o thy_o heart_n and_o thou_o shall_v teach_v they_o diligent_o unto_o thy_o child_n and_o shall_v talk_v of_o they_o when_o thou_o sit_v in_o thy_o house_n and_o when_o thou_o walk_v by_o the_o way_n and_o when_o thou_o lie_v down_o and_o when_o thou_o rise_v up_o this_o be_v a_o full_a and_o pregnant_a text_n for_o prove_v the_o point_n in_o hand_n i_o shall_v observe_v several_a thing_n from_o it_o 1._o what_o it_o be_v which_o we_o be_v to_o teach_v our_o child_n and_o that_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n these_o word_n which_o i_o command_v thou_o this_o day_n thou_o shall_v teach_v they_o unto_o thy_o child_n the_o apostle_n give_v this_o commendation_n of_o the_o scripture_n that_o it_o be_v profitable_a for_o instruction_n in_o righteousness_n 2_o tim._n 3.16_o and_o intimate_v to_o we_o rom._n 2.17_o 18._o that_o the_o jew_n draw_v their_o instruction_n which_o they_o give_v to_o those_o who_o they_o teach_v out_o of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n behold_v thou_o be_v call_v a_o jew_n and_o know_v his_o
