he_o if_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n be_v stretch_v out_o against_o his_o estate_n and_o bring_v he_o low_o she_o submit_v unto_o it_o and_o will_v not_o upbraid_v but_o comfort_v he_o and_o be_v content_a to_o take_v part_n with_o he_o in_o his_o affliction_n and_o low_a condition_n and_o all_o this_o she_o do_v as_o unto_o the_o lord_n because_o of_o the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o thus_o you_o see_v how_o such_o a_o person_n as_o walk_n with_o god_n carry_v it_o in_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o wife_n well_o if_o god_n set_v such_o a_o person_n in_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o husband_n you_o shall_v find_v he_o also_o walk_v with_o god_n in_o that_o relation_n he_o love_v his_o wife_n dear_o and_o he_o love_v she_o especial_o for_o that_o of_o god_n he_o see_v in_o she_o though_o he_o dare_v not_o love_v the_o creature_n immediate_o nor_o rejoice_v nor_o delight_n in_o the_o creature_n because_o he_o know_v that_n idolatry_n yet_o he_o love_v that_o which_o he_o see_v of_o god_n in_o she_o and_o under_o god_n he_o love_v her_o next_o to_o god_n with_o the_o dear_a love_n that_o that_o be_v the_o most_o near_a relation_n it_o be_v near_o than_o the_o relation_n of_o father_n and_o mother_n son_n and_o daughter_n this_o be_v not_o only_o a_o natural_a but_o supernatural_a relation_n it_o be_v a_o mystical_a relation_n and_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o god_n in_o make_v two_o to_o become_v one_o and_o therefore_o i_o say_v of_o that_o love_n which_o be_v due_a to_o and_o which_o he_o may_v give_v unto_o the_o creature_n he_o give_v unto_o she_o the_o great_a share_n as_o be_v the_o near_a relation_n and_o because_o he_o love_v she_o you_o shall_v see_v how_o he_o carry_v himself_o towards_o she_o 1._o first_o he_o love_v her_o soul_n in_o the_o first_o place_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o most_o desire_v to_o do_v her_o good_a in_o her_o spirit_n therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o instruct_v and_o pray_v with_o she_o and_o for_o she_o that_o so_o the_o lord_n may_v do_v her_o good_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n his_o dear_a love_n be_v towards_o her_o best_a part_n and_o therefore_o he_o rejoice_v most_o in_o that_o when_o he_o see_v the_o work_n of_o god_n upon_o her_o heart_n when_o they_o can_v live_v together_o as_o heir_n coheir_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o life_n as_o the_o apostle_n speak_v that_o be_v it_o that_o he_o take_v the_o most_o contentment_n in_o again_o 2._o second_o also_o because_o he_o love_v she_o he_o will_v be_v bitter_a to_o she_o he_o will_v remember_v that_o rule_n in_o col._n 3._o 19_o husband_n love_v your_o wife_n and_o be_v not_o bitter_a against_o they_o he_o will_v not_o be_v bitter_a in_o word_n nor_o action_n he_o consider_v her_o weakness_n look_v upon_o she_o as_o the_o weak_a vessel_n and_o therefore_o he_o will_v not_o break_v she_o if_o he_o must_v chide_v and_o fight_v it_o shall_v be_v with_o himself_o and_o with_o those_o lust_n that_o be_v within_o he_o and_o war_n against_o his_o soul_n and_o not_o with_o that_o relation_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v give_v to_o be_v such_o a_o wife_n and_o such_o a_o comfort_n unto_o he_o in_o this_o his_o pilgrimage_n 3._o again_o because_o he_o love_v she_o he_o will_v defend_v she_o this_o be_v another_o part_n of_o his_o gracious_a carriage_n he_o will_v be_v a_o veil_n for_o a_o cover_n to_o she_o so_o abimelech_n tell_v sarah_n lo_o thy_o husband_n be_v a_o cover_n to_o thou_o where_o ever_o thou_o go_v he_o will_v right_v her_o cause_n against_o all_o wrong_n and_o injury_n in_o a_o lawful_a way_n so_o far_o as_o he_o be_v able_a 4._o again_o he_o cover_v her_o weakness_n that_o be_v another_o part_n of_o his_o carriage_n he_o remember_v that_o rule_n that_o be_v give_v unto_o husband_n infirmity_n of_o his_o wife_n but_o be_v willing_a to_o cover_v they_o for_o he_o know_v what_o the_o lord_n jesus_n have_v cover_v in_o respect_n to_o he_o 5._o again_o five_o because_o he_o love_v she_o he_o will_v maintain_v she_o that_o she_o may_v want_v no_o conveniency_n according_a to_o his_o rank_n and_o the_o condition_n that_o god_n have_v set_v he_o in_o he_o will_v keep_v her_o short_a of_o necessary_n but_o provide_v both_o for_o her_o necessity_n and_o dignity_n he_o will_v spend_v all_o her_o portion_n and_o then_o turn_v she_o out_o of_o door_n to_o provide_v for_o herself_o he_o will_v keep_v her_o short_a that_o she_o shall_v have_v
no_o opportunity_n to_o do_v good_a but_o he_o give_v her_o allowance_n to_o share_v with_o he_o and_o to_o take_v comfort_n together_o of_o that_o which_o god_n have_v give_v he_o 6._o again_o sixthly_a and_o last_o he_o will_v maintain_v her_o honour_n in_o the_o family_n and_o therefore_o he_o command_v that_o she_o be_v respect_v he_o will_v not_o suffer_v servant_n nor_o child_n to_o usurp_v authority_n over_o she_o but_o command_v that_o reverence_n be_v show_v and_o submission_n give_v to_o she_o over_o all_o the_o family_n he_o look_v upon_o she_o as_o one_o that_o god_n have_v shorten_v their_o comfort_n and_o if_o his_o be_v lengthen_v our_o he_o look_v upon_o himself_o as_o bound_v to_o relieve_v their_o want_n and_o to_o be_v a_o comfort_n and_o stay_v unto_o they_o in_o their_o old_a age_n this_o be_v the_o carriage_n of_o one_o that_o walk_v with_o god_n if_o he_o be_v find_v in_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o child_n but_o for_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o father_n if_o he_o stand_v in_o the_o relation_n of_o a_o parent_n you_o shall_v also_o see_v his_o gracious_a carriage_n 1._o first_o of_o all_o he_o look_v upon_o his_o child_n as_o give_v he_o of_o god_n to_o be_v bring_v up_o for_o god_n he_o know_v that_o they_o be_v but_o only_o send_v out_o to_o nurse_n as_o it_o be_v to_o he_o god_n have_v give_v he_o such_o and_o such_o child_n to_o train_v up_o in_o his_o fear_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v his_o great_a desire_n to_o see_v the_o image_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o he_o be_v more_o desirous_a that_o they_o shall_v be_v make_v rich_a in_o grace_n than_o in_o gold_n therefore_o he_o pray_v for_o they_o counsel_v they_o instruct_v they_o give_v they_o good_a example_n and_o all_o that_o so_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o jesus_n christ_n may_v be_v communicate_v unto_o they_o if_o the_o lord_n have_v please_v at_o any_o time_n to_o work_v upon_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n oh_o how_o thankful_a be_v he_o unto_o the_o lord_n for_o it_o and_o he_o rejoice_v a_o thousand_o time_n more_o even_o in_o this_o that_o he_o know_v that_o they_o be_v the_o lord_n than_o that_o they_o be_v he_o 2._o second_o again_o he_o will_v not_o bear_v with_o that_o which_o be_v evil_a in_o they_o though_o they_o be_v never_o so_o nigh_o to_o he_o though_o they_o be_v of_o his_o flesh_n yet_o he_o will_v not_o bear_v with_o that_o which_o be_v a_o dishonour_n to_o god_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v that_o in_o a_o child_n which_o he_o abhor_v in_o another_o which_o he_o will_v reprove_v nay_o it_o may_v be_v punish_v in_o a_o servant_n but_o he_o be_v impartial_a in_o the_o matter_n of_o god_n when_o god_n honour_n be_v concern_v in_o it_o he_o will_v connive_v at_o any_o wickedness_n in_o they_o 3._o three_o and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o be_v careful_a not_o to_o provoke_v they_o to_o wrath_n for_o that_o be_v another_o extreme_a he_o remember_v that_o that_o be_v a_o precept_n father_n provoke_v not_o your_o child_n to_o wrath_n but_o bring_v they_o up_o in_o the_o fear_n and_o nurture_n of_o the_o lord_n he_o desire_v rather_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o rule_v they_o by_o love_n than_o by_o fear_n he_o know_v that_o slavish_a fear_n be_v the_o seed_n of_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o evil_n and_o many_o time_n it_o destroy_v ingenuity_n itself_o he_o will_v provoke_v they_o by_o cut_v word_n as_o saul_n do_v his_o son_n jonathan_n in_o the_o first_o of_o samuel_n you_o shall_v see_v what_o cut_v word_n he_o give_v to_o jonathan_n a_o good_a and_o gracious_a son_n 1_o sam._n 20._o 30._o then_o he_o with_o a_o disease_n in_o his_o foot_n and_o he_o die_v and_o it_o be_v in_o love_n to_o his_o soul_n but_o again_o 5._o five_o god_n love_v his_o servant_n and_o therefore_o when_o they_o have_v do_v much_o in_o a_o little_a time_n and_o long_o for_o his_o appearance_n o_o when_o shall_v i_o come_v and_o appear_v before_o thou_o so_o he_o call_v alike_o for_o they_o he_o have_v long_v which_o he_o give_v out_o now_o unto_o his_o servant_n in_o spiritual_n may_v abundant_o recompense_v the_o absence_n of_o all_o temporal_a mercy_n whatsoever_o but_o 2._o again_o second_o that_o these_o promise_n be_v conditional_a all_o outward_a promise_n promise_n of_o riches_n and_o honour_n of_o health_n and_o child_n and_o promise_n of_o long_a life_n these_o be_v all_o conditional_a god_n have_v not_o promise_v they_o absolute_o but_o with_o this_o limitation_n so_o far_o as_o he_o in_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o fatherly_a love_n and_o care_n shall_v see_v to_o be_v good_a for_o life_n it_o be_v because_o the_o lord_n see_v its_o best_a for_o they_o they_o be_v stranger_n here_o and_o it_o be_v not_o good_a for_o they_o that_o they_o shall_v be_v long_o from_o home_n he_o be_v and_o they_o have_v know_v what_o the_o creature_n be_v when_o god_n be_v at_o a_o distance_n they_o have_v see_v something_o of_o themselves_o and_o something_o of_o god_n and_o if_o there_o plant_v that_o soul_n can_v have_v no_o gracious_a and_o sweet_a communion_n with_o he_o well_o then_o what_o a_o invitation_n be_v here_o for_o poor_a soul_n to_o come_v in_o to_o christ_n christ_n generation_n and_o relation_n than_o to_o have_v place_n title_n honour_n and_o dignity_n among_o the_o great_a one_o of_o the_o world_n and_o christian_n shall_v rather_o choose_v to_o be_v serviceable_a to_o god_n and_o man_n than_o to_o seek_v great_a thing_n for_o themselves_o in_o the_o world_n there_o be_v a_o notable_a parable_n in_o judge_n 9_o 8._o the_o tree_n go_v forth_o on_o lay_v and_o 1._o first_o therefore_o brethren_n let_v your_o expectation_n and_o faith_n be_v according_a to_o the_o largeness_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n dont_fw-fr think_v it_o enough_o that_o you_o sit_v under_o his_o shadow_n that_o the_o lord_n christ_n be_v one_o that_o can_v free_v you_o from_o wrath_n do_v think_v that_o enough_o but_o look_v further_a to_o taste_v of_o his_o think_v that_o enough_o but_o look_v out_o further_o for_o the_o life_n of_o christ_n to_o be_v reveal_v in_o you_o to_o be_v manifest_v unto_o you_o for_o life_n and_o righteousness_n to_o reign_v glorious_o in_o your_o heart_n let_v your_o expectation_n be_v according_a to_o the_o largeness_n of_o the_o heart_n of_o christ_n and_o then_o 2._o second_o you_o shall_v deal_v with_o the_o lord_n christ_n as_o he_o deal_v with_o you_o he_o do_v not_o think_v privative_a salvation_n enough_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o make_v a_o shadow_n for_o you_o but_o he_o prepare_v fruit_n for_o you_o will_v in_o due_a time_n honour_n and_o lift_v up_o you_o that_o be_v the_o first_o particular_a again_o 2._o second_o christ_n bring_v you_o first_o unto_o the_o shadow_n and_o then_o he_o give_v of_o his_o fruit_n to_o eat_v and_o then_o he_o cause_v you_o to_o taste_v of_o his_o fruit_n because_o she_o be_v bring_v under_o his_o shadow_n therefore_o she_o shall_v eat_v of_o his_o fruit_n against_o the_o extreme_a of_o a_o short_a life_n and_o a_o long_a uncomfortable_a oh_o say_v the_o soul_n i_o be_o press_v after_o the_o lord_n and_o breathe_v after_o he_o and_o this_o be_v my_o fear_n i_o shall_v be_v cut_v off_o before_o his_o work_n be_v do_v in_o i_o fear_v it_o not_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o cut_v off_o the_o day_n of_o his_o servant_n but_o in_o love_n if_o it_o be_v opportunity_n of_o get_v nigh_a god_n oh_o lose_v no_o opportunity_n lose_v no_o part_n of_o precious_a time_n a_o heathen_a can_v say_v there_o be_v no_o time_n past_a but_o there_o be_v something_o be_v worth_a the_o write_n let_v no_o part_n of_o your_o precious_a time_n be_v waste_n and_o nothing_o do_v time_n be_v short_a and_o therefore_o you_o have_v need_n live_v every_o part_n of_o time_n live_v every_o hour_n and_o live_v every_o moment_n rather_o covet_v to_o live_v much_o than_o long_o oh_o labour_n for_o a_o eternal_a life_n this_o life_n be_v short_a in_o a_o moment_n god_n shorten_v the_o time_n of_o the_o best_a of_o his_o servant_n and_o therefore_o if_o this_o time_n be_v short_a oh_o labour_n for_o a_o eternal_a life_n and_o do_v what_o you_o do_v for_o god_n with_o people_n the_o promise_n of_o health_n strength_n riches_n and_o honour_n and_o of_o long_a life_n they_o must_v be_v take_v with_o this_o limitation_n so_o far_o as_o god_n in_o infinite_a wisdom_n shall_v see_v to_o be_v best_a for_o they_o so_o far_o shall_v he_o give_v out_o to_o they_o and_o therefore_o if_o god_n do_v take_v away_o any_o of_o his_o people_n at_o any_o time_n it_o be_v because_o god_n see_v it_o best_o for_o they_o to_o be_v take_v home_o to_o himself_o it_o be_v best_o for_o they_o to_o have_v a_o short_a time_n because_o that_o their_o day_n be_v evil_a man_n that_o be_v bear_v of_o a_o woman_n say_v job_n be_v one_o of_o few_o day_n and_o full_a of_o trouble_n and_o there_o be_v a_o mercy_n that_o both_o these_o go_v together_o few_o of_o day_n and_o full_a of_o trouble_n beside_o i_o answer_v that_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v good_a though_o god_n do_v take_v away_o some_o of_o his_o people_n whilst_o young_a yet_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v good_a they_o come_v to_o the_o grave_a in_o full_a age_n because_o they_o come_v to_o the_o grave_a full_a of_o grace_n he_o be_v not_o cut_v down_o before_o he_o be_v ripe_a they_o be_v not_o like_o the_o corn_n on_o the_o house_n top_n that_o be_v burn_v up_o before_o it_o be_v ripe_a but_o god_n can_v make_v they_o full_a of_o grace_n which_o be_v a_o full_a age_n and_o herein_o his_o promise_n be_v make_v good_a beside_o his_o promise_n be_v make_v good_a because_o god_n make_v they_o willing_a to_o leave_v the_o world_n when_o he_o call_v for_o they_o the_o righteous_a man_n when_o god_n call_v for_o he_o he_o say_v as_o elias_n say_v lord_n it_o be_v enough_o if_o thou_o say_v it_o be_v enough_o that_o i_o have_v live_v so_o long_o upon_o earth_n i_o will_v say_v so_o too_o lord_n i_o have_v enough_o of_o live_v here_o i_o have_v enough_o of_o this_o world_n here_o be_v nothing_o that_o be_v desirable_a or_o that_o may_v draw_v forth_o my_o affection_n to_o live_v long_o if_o this_o be_v the_o determine_a time_n of_o god_n a_o wicked_a man_n have_v never_o life_n enough_o though_o he_o live_v a_o hundred_o year_n twice_o tell_v yet_o he_o be_v as_o greedy_a to_o live_v long_o as_o at_o first_o but_o god_n satisfy_v the_o heart_n of_o his_o servant_n in_o that_o they_o have_v live_v long_o enough_o and_o their_o time_n be_v come_v and_o that_o satisfy_v they_o and_o thus_o
the_o pillar_n of_o kingdom_n nay_o they_o be_v the_o pillar_n of_o the_o whole_a world_n so_o say_v the_o psalmist_n the_o earth_n shake_v o_o lord_n and_o i_o will_v bear_v up_o the_o pillar_n of_o it_o if_o the_o pillar_n of_o the_o house_n be_v pluck_v down_o how_o can_v the_o house_n stand_v if_o you_o see_v one_o pillar_n after_o another_o fall_n you_o will_v conclude_v certain_o that_o house_n will_v hold_v long_o why_o the_o saint_n be_v the_o pillar_n of_o the_o world_n and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o for_o their_o sake_n the_o earth_n will_v mingle_v together_o present_o but_o you_o must_v know_v this_o be_v not_o from_o any_o merit_n worth_n or_o righteousness_n of_o they_o though_o they_o be_v thus_o call_v pillar_n i_o say_v it_o be_v not_o for_o any_o worth_n or_o righteousness_n of_o the_o saint_n or_o the_o best_a on_o earth_n but_o they_o be_v call_v pillar_n and_o they_o bear_v up_o kingdom_n and_o they_o bear_v up_o the_o earth_n 1._o first_o because_o god_n be_v entreat_v by_o their_o supplication_n i_o say_v they_o prevail_v they_o stand_v at_o the_o gap_n they_o prevail_v with_o god_n to_o keep_v out_o wrath_n and_o judgement_n that_o it_o may_v not_o break_v in_o and_o so_o you_o know_v moses_n plead_v with_o god_n and_o so_o long_o as_o moses_n plead_v with_o god_n god_n can_v do_v nothing_o against_o israel_n let_v i_o alone_o that_o i_o may_v destroy_v they_o and_o so_o abraham_n plead_v for_o sodom_n that_o god_n will_v spare_v that_o city_n for_o ten_o righteous_a man_n sake_n and_o god_n grant_v that_o request_n and_o it_o be_v very_o observable_a that_o abraham_n give_v over_o first_o god_n do_v not_o give_v over_o first_o it_o be_v like_a if_o he_o have_v go_v low_a he_o may_v have_v prevail_v but_o there_o be_v a_o holy_a ingenuity_n and_o faithfulness_n in_o he_o when_o he_o consider_v that_o in_o so_o many_o city_n there_o shall_v not_o be_v ten_o righteous_a man_n there_o why_o he_o can_v not_o in_o ingenuity_n ask_v any_o less_o and_o so_o by_o their_o supplication_n they_o bear_v up_o kingdom_n and_o nation_n 2._o second_o and_o then_o again_o the_o lord_n do_v spare_v place_n and_o people_n many_o time_n from_o the_o care_n that_o god_n have_v of_o they_o for_o the_o care_n that_o the_o lord_n have_v of_o his_o own_o people_n will_v thou_o destroy_v the_o righteous_a with_o the_o wicked_a rather_o spare_v the_o wicked_a for_o the_o righteous_a sake_n and_o god_n do_v choose_v this_o way_n this_o be_v god_n way_n he_o will_v rather_o spare_v the_o wicked_a for_o the_o righteous_a sake_n because_o god_n be_v exceed_o careful_a of_o his_o own_o people_n he_o fear_v lest_o they_o shall_v suffer_v he_o will_v rather_o have_v the_o tare_n grow_v with_o the_o corn_n together_o than_o the_o good_a corn_n shall_v be_v in_o danger_n of_o be_v pluck_v up_o and_o therefore_o he_o tell_v lot_n of_o make_v haste_n in_o gen._n 19_o when_o god_n be_v about_o to_o destroy_v sodom_n haste_v thou_o
