with_o more_o beauty_n to_o the_o eye_n thereby_o after_o a_o manner_n have_v recompense_n of_o their_o want_n in_o the_o body_n so_o in_o the_o body_n of_o the_o common_a wealth_n and_o in_o the_o enable_v from_o he_o to_o send_v abroad_o such_o fruit_n of_o true_a reverence_n and_o honour_n as_o may_v come_v to_o the_o sight_n &_o hear_v of_o many_o to_o the_o great_a praise_n of_o his_o name_n the_o six_o lecture_n upon_o the_o thirteen_o verse_n 13_o thou_o shall_v not_o kill_v the_o former_a commandment_n have_v give_v forth_o instruction_n for_o particular_a calling_n from_o man_n love_v or_o regard_v of_o the_o author_n thereof_o for_o he_o himself_o be_v uphold_v in_o life_n and_o like_n by_o the_o comfort_n of_o they_o the_o lord_n in_o forbid_v murder_n forbiddith_v also_o all_o violence_n cruelty_n and_o wrath_n towards_o our_o neighbour_n labour_v in_o the_o detestation_n of_o this_o great_a evil_n to_o work_v in_o we_o a_o hatred_n towards_o all_o that_o be_v of_o any_o affinity_n with_o it_o and_o therefore_o not_o let_v we_o see_v they_o but_o in_o that_o form_n which_o may_v most_o fear_v we_o from_o they_o put_v upon_o they_o all_o that_o fearful_a will_v work_v before_o he_o shall_v minister_v so_o bitter_a medicine_n unto_o other_o for_o it_o be_v a_o intolerable_a thing_n that_o great_a evil_n shall_v live_v quiet_o at_o home_n when_o little_a one_o be_v so_o sharp_o revenge_v abroad_o it_o be_v strange_a that_o any_o man_n shall_v play_v with_o some_o that_o be_v grow_v to_o be_v a_o monster_n and_o not_o to_o be_v able_a to_o look_v upon_o it_o in_o the_o childhood_n thereof_o when_o it_o be_v nothing_o so_o deform_v nor_o evil_a favour_v such_o quarrel_a with_o evil_n not_o half_o form_v in_o other_o especial_o when_o there_o be_v quietness_n with_o many_o that_o be_v already_o perfect_o shape_v at_o home_n can_v not_o proceed_v of_o any_o sound_a meaning_n or_o hatred_n against_o sin_n we_o must_v remember_v the_o a_o man_n be_v so_o overwhelm_v with_o displeasure_n conceive_v as_o that_o notwithstanding_o he_o burst_v not_o out_o into_o heat_n yet_o he_o suffer_v his_o affection_n towards_o the_o man_n altogether_o to_o quench_v in_o he_o cease_v any_o more_o to_o show_v forth_o the_o fruit_n of_o a_o love_a heart_n therefore_o in_o few_o word_n to_o comprehend_v the_o nature_n of_o this_o property_n of_o love_n it_o be_v that_o good_a affection_n which_o pass_v through_o unkindness_n to_o utter_v itself_o and_o break_v through_o displeasure_n to_o make_v itself_o know_v by_o love_a deed_n be_v in_o very_a deed_n the_o power_n and_o work_v of_o god_n and_o therefore_o able_a so_o strong_o against_o such_o strong_a let_n to_o prevail_v love_n it_o be_v also_o say_v of_o this_o affection_n which_o parent_n bear_v unto_o their_o child_n how_o gentle_a be_v they_o to_o they_o how_o ready_a to_o seek_v the_o pleasure_n of_o they_o how_o plentiful_a and_o liberal_a therein_o which_o come_v whole_o of_o a_o tender_a affection_n towards_o they_o this_o fruit_n of_o love_n be_v fit_o join_v unto_o the_o other_o for_o when_o a_o man_n can_v not_o only_o bear_v the_o uncharitable_o do_v we_o judge_v of_o love_n and_o charity_n as_o if_o he_o love_v a_o man_n who_o be_v not_o provoke_v by_o any_o affection_n boil_v in_o he_o to_o hate_v or_o at_o least_o to_o mislike_v he_o whereas_o in_o very_a deed_n love_n be_v a_o tender_a like_n conceive_v of_o a_o man_n and_o so_o great_o delight_v &_o affect_v of_o he_o that_o it_o make_v he_o both_o marvellous_a in_o deed_n they_o be_v nay_o sometime_o imagine_v that_o to_o be_v in_o they_o in_o great_a measure_n whereof_o in_o deed_n they_o never_o have_v any_o portion_n no_o not_o the_o least_o part_n so_o far_o be_v they_o from_o any_o envy_v of_o they_o for_o by_o love_n they_o be_v so_o as_o it_o be_v make_v one_o that_o the_o praise_n of_o their_o child_n they_o take_v to_o be_v a_o part_n of_o member_n of_o one_o body_n and_o that_o we_o have_v our_o part_n of_o the_o profit_n that_o come_v by_o the_o gift_n of_o other_o through_o the_o marvelous_a work_n of_o god_n what_o madness_n therefore_o be_v it_o to_o envy_v our_o own_o commodity_n there_o can_v be_v no_o great_a token_n of_o a_o hateful_a man_n then_o be_v envy_n neither_o any_o plain_a proof_n that_o we_o be_v diverse_a with_o the_o true_a owner_n thereof_o to_o encourage_v we_o to_o this_o love_n that_o drive_v away_o envy_n let_v we_o remember_v that_o in_o drive_v it_o away_o we_o join_v with_o the_o lord_n who_o have_v thus_o appoint_v it_o we_o approve_v his_o do_n as_o good_a we_o acknowledge_v by_o thankfulness_n the_o commodity_n that_o we_o have_v of_o they_o we_o rid_v ourselves_o of_o a_o infinite_a and_o endless_a torment_n to_o conclude_v this_o property_n of_o love_n it_o be_v requisite_a that_o we_o often_o consider_v how_o unworthy_a we_o be_v of_o those_o benefit_n that_o we_o do_v enjoy_v to_o learn_v both_o to_o be_v content_v with_o they_o and_o to_o be_v thankful_a to_o god_n for_o they_o and_o to_o keep_v we_o in_o such_o thankful_a remembrance_n thereof_o as_o may_v make_v we_o studious_a to_o walk_v worthy_a of_o they_o to_o so_o great_a goodness_n of_o god_n towards_o we_o therein_o as_o may_v keep_v we_o occupy_v in_o care_n how_o by_o duty_n we_o may_v answer_v they_o always_o take_v heed_n lest_o we_o shall_v become_v unthankful_a even_o for_o the_o good_a which_o god_n do_v mean_a towards_o we_o in_o those_o gift_n the_o possession_n whereof_o he_o have_v give_v unto_o other_o as_o love_n be_v void_a of_o envy_n so_o be_v it_o report_v here_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o it_o be_v void_a of_o deal_v insolent_o froward_o or_o stubborn_o for_o so_o sound_v the_o word_n and_o that_o it_o be_v not_o puff_v up_o with_o pride_n against_o he_o who_o he_o love_v moreover_o that_o it_o do_v no_o uncomely_a thing_n against_o he_o without_o have_v due_a regard_n of_o the_o dignity_n of_o the_o man_n his_o degree_n estate_n or_o condition_n whatsoever_o these_o thing_n be_v express_v in_o three_o word_n in_o the_o text_n and_o may_v be_v express_v in_o these_o three_o word_n thus_o that_o love_n deal_v not_o froward_o proud_o nor_o uncomely_a these_o thing_n do_v i_o join_v together_o in_o speak_v of_o they_o because_o they_o be_v of_o such_o affinity_n one_o with_o another_o where_o true_a love_n be_v there_o the_o man_n who_o love_v be_v so_o persuade_v of_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o other_o who_o he_o love_v and_o so_o ravish_v with_o the_o admiration_n of_o some_o one_o or_o other_o thing_n in_o he_o that_o in_o his_o judgement_n
which_o reverence_n must_v partly_o arise_v of_o that_o which_o we_o conceive_v to_o be_v in_o they_o which_o we_o must_v search_v out_o right_o examine_v the_o worthiness_n thereof_o that_o we_o may_v be_v force_v to_o have_v that_o love_n like_n and_o estimation_n of_o he_o which_o may_v drive_v we_o from_o all_o stubborn_a proud_a and_o presumptuous_a deal_n yea_o from_o all_o uncomely_a &_o unreverent_a deal_n towards_o he_o make_v his_o excellency_n to_o humble_v we_o even_o in_o that_o wherein_o we_o do_v most_o glory_n thus_o must_v we_o travel_v with_o our_o heart_n to_o find_v of_o that_o which_o it_o like_v that_o in_o regard_n thereof_o it_o be_v often_o negligent_a about_o itself_o not_o enjoy_v all_o the_o liberty_n pleasure_n or_o commodity_n that_o lawful_o it_o may_v have_v a_o proof_n of_o this_o may_v be_v have_v in_o parent_n who_o nature_n have_v teach_v to_o love_v their_o child_n they_o seek_v not_o with_o how_o little_a charge_n they_o may_v be_v discharge_v of_o they_o in_o put_v they_o off_o their_o hand_n to_o be_v apprentice_n of_o some_o occupation_n which_o may_v be_v do_v with_o small_a charge_n and_o be_v very_o lawful_a for_o they_o to_o do_v whereby_o also_o they_o themselves_o may_v be_v the_o better_a able_a to_o live_v as_o be_v with_o so_o little_a cost_n unburden_v of_o they_o they_o inquire_v not_o thus_o with_o how_o little_a charge_n they_o may_v be_v bestow_v but_o will_v strain_v themselves_o oftentimes_o above_o their_o ability_n live_v very_o spare_o and_o hardly_o at_o home_n to_o maintain_v they_o at_o learning_n or_o at_o some_o other_o thing_n likely_a to_o procure_v their_o preferment_n this_o be_v love_v which_o seek_v not_o her_o own_o thing_n which_o teach_v they_o to_o forgo_v that_o pleasure_n or_o profit_v which_o lawful_o they_o may_v enjoy_v to_o pleasure_n and_o profit_v their_o child_n who_o they_o love_v this_o property_n of_o love_n do_v paul_n plain_o declare_v 9_o when_o that_o he_o do_v not_o burden_n the_o congregation_n as_o lawful_o he_o may_v by_o this_o property_n of_o love_n it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o man_n have_v once_o learn_v what_o be_v lawful_a begin_v to_o inquire_v then_o whether_o that_o same_o be_v expedient_a to_o be_v do_v or_o otherwise_o because_o notwithstanding_o that_o it_o be_v lawful_a 5._o yet_o love_n will_v not_o do_v it_o unless_o it_o be_v also_o expedient_a by_o this_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o those_o which_o be_v strong_a will_v not_o always_o proceed_v in_o the_o strength_n of_o their_o persuasion_n to_o do_v who_o she_o love_v especial_o when_o the_o hold_n of_o she_o to_o her_o own_o be_v like_a to_o bring_v discredit_n unto_o that_o which_o she_o love_v in_o preserve_v our_o commodity_n or_o our_o pleasure_n we_o always_o follow_v they_o to_o the_o uttermost_a of_o that_o which_o be_v lawful_a we_o drive_v our_o commodity_n as_o far_o always_o as_o by_o any_o mean_n may_v be_v account_v lawful_a and_o if_o at_o any_o time_n we_o be_v accuse_v of_o hard_o deal_v we_o answer_v it_o be_v a_o covenant_n a_o plain_a bargain_n true_a buy_v and_o sell_v it_o be_v lawful_a as_o if_o love_n unto_o the_o gospel_n if_o it_o be_v in_o we_o will_v not_o make_v we_o sometime_o to_o give_v in_o and_o relent_v of_o that_o we_o may_v demand_v to_o get_v credit_n thereunto_o and_o to_o stop_v the_o mouth_n of_o the_o evil_a speaker_n and_o slanderer_n when_o we_o see_v that_o we_o can_v hold_v that_o but_o we_o must_v procure_v evil_a speech_n to_o our_o profession_n likewise_o when_o we_o be_v charge_v with_o excessive_a use_v of_o recreation_n or_o apparel_n forthwith_o we_o answer_v recreation_n be_v lawful_a apparel_n be_v lawful_a we_o may_v use_v it_o but_o love_n seek_v not_o all_o that_o it_o may_v when_o our_o profession_n be_v evil_a speak_v of_o the_o gospel_n blame_v to_o be_v a_o doctrine_n of_o liberty_n shall_v not_o the_o love_n thereunto_o make_v we_o cease_v to_o seek_v all_o that_o we_o may_v and_o begin_v to_o inquire_v what_o be_v most_o convenient_a to_o purchase_v glory_n to_o god_n withal_o when_o those_o which_o strive_v for_o mastery_n be_v commendation_n by_o run_v thus_o have_v love_n teach_v they_o to_o defraud_v themselves_o of_o many_o sweet_a morsel_n which_o lawful_o they_o may_v take_v to_o enjoy_v but_o some_o corruptible_a thing_n for_o love_n seek_v not_o all_o it_o may_v but_o forego_v much_o of_o her_o right_n for_o their_o pleasure_n who_o she_o so_o great_o like_v miserable_a therefore_o be_v these_o time_n wherein_o so_o many_o go_v further_o in_o pleasure_n and_o commodity_n then_o by_o any_o lawful_a mean_n they_o may_v do_v and_o the_o better_a sort_n stand_v at_o the_o staff_n end_n with_o god_n not_o yield_v one_o jot_n of_o those_o profit_n or_o pleasure_n that_o by_o any_o colour_n of_o lawfulness_n they_o can_v lay_v claim_n unto_o notwithstanding_o his_o name_n that_o be_v so_o evil_o speak_v of_o for_o this_o obstinate_a use_n of_o their_o liberty_n do_v even_o beg_v it_o at_o their_o hand_n that_o they_o shall_v relent_v of_o their_o right_n and_o something_o give_v in_o unto_o labouriousnesse_n unto_o it_o as_o the_o proper_a note_n to_o discern_v it_o whereunto_o accord_v that_o which_o be_v set_v down_o here_o that_o it_o be_v so_o much_o occupy_v where_o it_o love_v that_o oftentimes_o it_o neglect_v itself_o this_o property_n of_o love_n notable_o describe_v idle_a and_o careless_a pastor_n and_o preacher_n of_o the_o word_n which_o so_o much_o seek_v themselves_o that_o they_o neglect_v their_o flock_n and_o charge_n whereas_o if_o there_o be_v love_n in_o deed_n towards_o they_o it_o will_v beget_v in_o they_o the_o care_n thereof_o even_o with_o the_o neglect_n of_o themselves_o in_o respect_n of_o the_o care_n and_o pain_n take_v with_o they_o this_o property_n must_v every_o man_n try_v himself_o by_o in_o his_o call_n whatsoever_o for_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v accept_v of_o our_o deal_n therein_o it_o be_v mete_v &_o requisite_a that_o they_o be_v do_v in_o love_n which_o be_v full_a of_o service_n &_o pain_n towards_o that_o which_o it_o love_v to_o relent_v of_o our_o right_n unto_o god_n for_o his_o glory_n be_v no_o work_n of_o supererogation_n which_o we_o be_v not_o bind_v unto_o as_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n have_v teach_v but_o due_a debt_n for_o we_o do_v owe_v love_n unto_o god_n from_o the_o
ground_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o love_n seek_v not_o all_o her_o own_o but_o oftentimes_o frank_o and_o free_o give_v of_o her_o right_a unto_o god_n herein_o also_o we_o may_v discern_v that_o love_n have_v great_a thing_n in_o it_o that_o it_o mighty_o carry_v the_o affection_n to_o that_o which_o it_o love_v &_o keep_v they_o occupy_v there_o even_o oftentimes_o to_o the_o neglect_n of_o itself_o the_o rareness_n of_o it_o and_o the_o great_a measure_n that_o we_o shall_v see_v ourselves_o come_v short_a thereof_o must_v force_v we_o to_o often_o &_o earnest_a prayer_n to_o god_n for_o it_o wherein_o it_o shall_v be_v profitable_a to_o remember_v that_o this_o not_o seek_v of_o ourselves_o but_o the_o good_a of_o other_o be_v in_o truth_n the_o next_o way_n to_o benefit_n ourselves_o for_o as_o the_o hand_n which_o be_v occupy_v always_o in_o give_v forth_o help_v to_o the_o mouth_n or_o other_o part_n of_o the_o body_n do_v in_o so_o do_v provide_v for_o itself_o &_o have_v his_o nourishment_n help_n and_o health_n of_o that_o which_o it_o have_v give_v unto_o the_o mouth_n so_o by_o the_o especial_a work_n of_o god_n it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o our_o benefit_n be_v enclose_v in_o that_o which_o we_o bestow_v upon_o another_o and_o he_o become_v the_o best_a husband_n for_o himself_o that_o be_v most_o employ_v according_a to_o his_o call_n upon_o other_o this_o be_v a_o special_a work_n we_o may_v see_v of_o god_n grace_n for_o our_o nature_n be_v whole_o give_v to_o attend_v upon_o herself_o little_o regard_v so_o matter_n go_v well_o there_o how_o it_o fare_v with_o other_o abroad_o love_n in_o like_a manner_n be_v know_v thus_o that_o it_o be_v not_o provoke_v unto_o anger_n it_o be_v not_o easy_o incense_v though_o wrong_v be_v offer_v unto_o it_o for_o the_o heart_n be_v so_o knit_v by_o love_n that_o it_o can_v well_o bear_v many_o wrong_n this_o note_n whereby_o love_n be_v discern_v differ_v not_o much_o from_o that_o property_n which_o be_v speak_v of_o in_o the_o first_o place_n save_v that_o to_o speak_v proper_o that_o be_v a_o meekness_n join_v with_o do_n &_o this_o with_o suffer_v this_o hardness_n to_o be_v provoke_v unto_o anger_n be_v procure_v by_o the_o help_n of_o that_o which_o follow_v be_v another_o token_n of_o love_n that_o it_o think_v not_o evil_a or_o impute_v not_o evil_a for_o in_o as_o much_o as_o it_o stand_v not_o upon_o the_o matter_n examine_v the_o evil_a deal_n that_o be_v in_o it_o but_o by_o love_n either_o altogether_o pass_v over_o it_o or_o else_o twit_v and_o blame_v some_o other_o thing_n for_o it_o as_o a_o cause_n that_o move_v the_o doer_n thereunto_o and_o so_o remove_v it_o from_o he_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v incense_v therewith_o or_o provoke_v unto_o anger_n parent_n in_o deal_v with_o their_o child_n do_v plain_o prove_v that_o love_n want_v this_o diligent_a consider_v think_v upon_o or_o through_o examine_v of_o the_o evil_a of_o their_o child_n for_o how_o many_o of_o their_o froward_a do_n do_v they_o pass_v over_o &_o not_o examine_v at_o all_o in_o how_o many_o thing_n which_o they_o see_v to_o be_v offence_n in_o they_o do_v they_o notwithstanding_o put_v over_o the_o whole_a blame_n thereof_o to_o some_o one_o thing_n or_o other_o as_o that_o their_o frowardness_n come_v for_o lack_v of_o sleep_n or_o want_v of_o meat_n etc_n etc_n for_o love_n can_v rifle_n into_o the_o evil_a to_o be_v muse_v and_o think_v much_o upon_o it_o diligent_o examine_v the_o wickedness_n how_o great_a it_o be_v that_o do_v appear_v in_o it_o love_n can_v stand_v upon_o it_o to_o gather_v together_o the_o conjecture_n that_o may_v be_v have_v of_o great_a evil_a to_o be_v in_o it_o hereby_o it_o appear_v that_o love_n be_v far_o from_o suspicion_n of_o evil_a where_o there_o be_v no_o apparent_a token_n thereof_o see_v it_o pass_v with_o such_o speed_n and_o turn_v the_o thought_n so_o soon_o from_o muse_v upon_o and_o examine_v see_v and_o know_v evil_n in_o those_o who_o it_o love_v it_o be_v also_o incident_a unto_o love_n as_o a_o true_a mark_n to_o discern_v it_o by_o not_o to_o rejoice_v in_o iniquity_n but_o to_o rejoice_v in_o the_o truth_n so_o do_v the_o holy_a ghost_n report_n of_o it_o in_o this_o place_n the_o truth_n wherein_o he_o that_o love_v be_v say_v to_o rejoice_v signify_v true_a and_o sincere_a deal_n according_a to_o the_o usual_a speech_n of_o the_o scripture_n which_o may_v also_o be_v understand_v in_o that_o it_o be_v set_v here_o against_o iniquity_n or_o unrighteousness_n as_o be_v contrary_a thereunto_o this_o property_n of_o not_o rejoice_v in_o iniquity_n be_v very_o fit_o join_v unto_o the_o former_a for_o in_o that_o it_o be_v say_v not_o to_o think_v evil_a but_o friendly_a not_o to_o impute_v it_o it_o may_v be_v think_v that_o love_n have_v a_o delight_n in_o the_o evil_a deal_n of_o he_o who_o she_o love_v therefore_o be_v this_o add_v that_o it_o rejoice_v not_o in_o his_o evil_a deal_n &_o unrighteousness_n for_o these_o may_v well_o stand_v together_o not_o to_o search_v into_o evil_a thing_n to_o withdraw_v his_o affection_n from_o the_o offender_n therein_o and_o yet_o for_o righteousness_n of_o god_n approve_v by_o his_o word_n unto_o a_o righteousness_n approve_v by_o the_o revelation_n of_o their_o own_o spirit_n make_v the_o word_n of_o god_o the_o playnesong_n which_o their_o spirit_n may_v descant_v upon_o as_o seem_v good_a unto_o itself_o but_o always_o so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o melody_n but_o from_o their_o own_o mouth_n for_o they_o will_v have_v the_o word_n to_o have_v no_o soundness_n nor_o certainty_n in_o itself_o hereby_o be_v all_o the_o friendship_n of_o the_o wicked_a condemn_v who_o will_v have_v no_o long_a like_n of_o any_o but_o such_o as_o will_v joy_v with_o they_o in_o their_o wickedness_n for_o they_o will_v not_o hold_v friendship_n with_o they_o that_o will_v not_o lend_v they_o the_o credit_n of_o their_o countenance_n and_o if_o need_v be_v of_o their_o oath_n also_o to_o help_v out_o evil_a cause_n withal_o here_o also_o be_v all_o these_o detect_v of_o want_n of_o love_n who_o publish_v abroad_o the_o infirmity_n towards_o he_o force_v he_o to_o mislike_v of_o all_o annoyance_n and_o wrong_n that_o happen_v unto_o he_o and_o because_o of_o this_o he_o can_v not_o but_o with_o grief_n hear_v of_o any_o wrong_n or_o hard_a measure_n offer_v unto_o he_o so_o far_o be_v he_o himself_o from_o deal_v evil_a or_o hardly_o with_o he_o love_n rejoice_v not_o in_o iniquity_n but_o it_o rejoice_v or_o joy_v together_o with_o he_o at_o the_o truth_n or_o sincerity_n and_o uprightness_n of_o his_o deal_n because_o that_o will_v turn_v to_o his_o good_a and_o have_v approbation_n and_o allowance_n even_o from_o man_n love_n so_o lace_v itself_o in_o the_o commendable_a do_n of_o he_o who_o it_o love_v and_o the_o man_n that_o love_v take_v pleasure_n in_o the_o well_o do_v of_o he_o who_o he_o love_v therefore_o if_o there_o be_v true_a love_n in_o we_o we_o must_v not_o only_o not_o envy_v the_o good_a do_n of_o our_o brethren_n but_o we_o must_v acquaint_v our_o heart_n to_o joy_n with_o they_o let_v we_o pray_v etc_n etc_n the_o xiij_o lecture_n upon_o the_o three_o chapter_n to_o the_o galatian_n and_o three_o verse_n for_o as_o many_o as_o be_v of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n be_v under_o the_o curse_n for_o it_o be_v write_v curse_a be_v every_o man_n that_o continue_v not_o in_o all_o thing_n which_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v they_o have_v curse_a that_o claim_n righteousness_n for_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n which_o they_o have_v do_v and_o he_o use_v this_o reason_n to_o prove_v that_o all_o such_o be_v under_o the_o curse_n for_o it_o be_v write_v 3.10_o say_v he_o curse_v be_v every_o man_n that_o continue_v not_o in_o all_o thing_n which_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v they_o take_v it_o for_o a_o affirm_v that_o all_o man_n who_o lie_v claim_v to_o righteousness_n by_o the_o work_v of_o the_o law_n be_v accurse_v the_o apostle_n affirm_v every_o man_n to_o be_v accurse_v that_o seek_v for_o righteousness_n from_o the_o law_n because_o the_o law_n deal_v so_o strict_o and_o hardly_o with_o man_n that_o it_o curse_v every_o man_n who_o continue_v not_o in_o do_v all_o the_o thing_n in_o the_o several_a branch_n thereof_o be_v not_o only_o hurtful_a unto_o we_o but_o also_o injurious_a unto_o the_o due_a estimation_n of_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n i_o can_v more_o fit_o compare_v those_o man_n who_o will_v most_o willing_o confess_v themselves_o in_o general_a word_n to_o be_v sinner_n and_o yet_o be_v very_o loath_a to_o be_v trouble_v with_o any_o particular_a knowledge_n thereof_o then_o unto_o some_o notorious_a offender_n against_o the_o law_n and_o peace_n of_o their_o prince_n who_o can_v willing_o hear_v these_o general_a word_n that_o they_o be_v offender_n and_o have_v not_o keep_v the_o several_a statute_n and_o law_n of_o their_o prince_n so_o that_o they_o will_v proceed_v no_o further_o with_o they_o but_o to_o be_v bring_v forth_o and_o charge_v with_o their_o several_a felony_n murder_n or_o treason_n that_o they_o have_v commit_v and_o to_o have_v their_o wickedness_n particular_o lay_v out_o in_o number_n of_o deed_n &_o manner_n of_o do_v that_o may_v best_o set_v out_o the_o heinousness_n thereof_o that_o in_o no_o ease_n may_v be_v abide_v and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o before_o that_o time_n neither_o be_v their_o own_o estate_n great_o fear_v nor_o yet_o the_o law_n so_o much_o as_o think_v upon_o how_o to_o be_v satisfy_v it_o be_v this_o particular_a sight_n of_o sin_n that_o send_v we_o forthwith_o unto_o christ_n and_o make_v he_o appear_v both_o glorious_a in_o the_o multitude_n of_o his_o so_o great_a mercy_n and_o most_o necessary_a in_o the_o consideration_n of_o our_o so_o many_o dangerous_a infirmity_n if_o it_o please_v the_o reader_n in_o the_o examine_n of_o himself_o in_o any_o commandment_n forthwith_o to_o join_v to_o the_o same_o that_o which_o be_v write_v here_o of_o the_o property_n of_o love_n and_o that_o other_o next_o lecture_n of_o the_o use_n of_o the_o law_n he_o shall_v find_v i_o hope_v some_o help_n in_o they_o the_o soon_o to_o depart_v from_o himself_o and_o the_o more_o careful_o to_o embrace_v christ_n and_o that_o he_o may_v be_v acquaint_v the_o better_a with_o my_o meaning_n and_o purpose_n in_o this_o matter_n i_o will_v give_v he_o in_o few_o word_n the_o reason_n of_o the_o same_o i_o see_v in_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o we_o be_v not_o only_o forbid_v the_o work_n of_o our_o own_o devotion_n and_o intent_n &_o bind_v to_o that_o choice_n of_o work_n that_o god_n have_v appoint_v in_o his_o word_n but_o also_o that_o we_o be_v strict_o charge_v to_o do_v the_o same_o all_o and_o every_o one_o of_o they_o in_o love_n which_o be_v a_o affection_n that_o carry_v a_o man_n so_o in_o delight_n after_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o love_v that_o he_o oftentimes_o forget_v himself_o in_o respect_n thereof_o according_a as_o it_o be_v report_v by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o a_o property_n to_o know_v it_o by_o that_o love_n seek_v not_o her_o own_o thing_n this_o be_v the_o cause_n why_o after_o the_o commandment_n i_o have_v set_v down_o the_o note_n and_o property_n to_o discern_v love_n by_o that_o when_o we_o have_v see_v what_o work_v they_o be_v that_o we_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v we_o may_v also_o see_v with_o what_o affection_n we_o be_v charge_v to_o do_v they_o that_o we_o may_v be_v as_o careful_a to_o bring_v the_o right_a manner_n of_o do_v unto_o the_o lord_n as_o the_o very_a deed_n that_o he_o approve_v for_o we_o be_v as_o well_o to_o perform_v duty_n in_o the_o manner_n of_o do_v as_o in_o the_o deed_n itself_o it_o be_v one_o and_o the_o same_o god_n who_o have_v enjoin_v both_o unto_o we_o and_o therefore_o may_v not_o be_v deny_v in_o either_o of_o they_o the_o use_n of_o the_o law_n which_o be_v in_o the_o lecture_n follow_v will_v declare_v with_o what_o condition_n we_o have_v wage_n promise_v for_o our_o work_n and_o whether_o the_o covenant_n be_v so_o favourable_a as_o that_o we_o need_v not_o to_o doubt_v but_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o perform_v it_o and_o therefore_o to_o live_v in_o it_o or_o otherwise_o so_o hard_a as_o the_o truth_n be_v in_o very_a deed_n that_o he_o remain_v under_o the_o curse_n of_o god_n who_o continue_v not_o in_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v they_o let_v we_o then_o set_v these_o together_o first_o the_o number_n of_o deed_n then_o the_o manner_n of_o do_v which_o must_v have_v in_o it_o those_o property_n that_o be_v in_o love_n and_o last_o of_o all_o the_o hard_a condition_n which_o be_v not_o to_o have_v our_o good_a do_n to_o blot_n out_o and_o put_v off_o our_o evil_a but_o to_o remain_v under_o the_o curse_n if_o we_o shall_v not_o continue_v in_o every_o thing_n that_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o the_o law_n to_o do_v it_o and_o then_o we_o shall_v be_v force_v to_o give_v over_o this_o strong_a hold_n even_o this_o confidence_n in_o ourselves_o and_o betake_v we_o whole_o to_o the_o mercy_n of_o our_o god_n and_o magnify_v the_o same_o according_o and_o lest_o we_o shall_v imagine_v the_o matter_n of_o let_v go_v the_o opinion_n of_o ourselves_o and_o our_o worthiness_n to_o be_v nothing_o so_o hard_a as_o be_v suppose_v and_o therefore_o no_o such_o need_n to_o have_v so_o often_o before_o we_o in_o meditation_n and_o earnest_a consideration_n thereof_o the_o multitude_n of_o deed_n to_o be_v do_v the_o love_a manner_n of_o do_v and_o the_o hard_a condition_n if_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v do_v let_v we_o advise_o consider_v how_o that_o singular_a instrument_n of_o god_n s._n paul_n confess_v that_o he_o himself_o be_v so_o subject_a unto_o this_o over_o great_a opinion_n of_o himself_o that_o the_o messenger_n of_o sathan_n be_v send_v unto_o he_o to_o buffet_v he_o 12.7_o jest_n he_o shall_v be_v puff_v up_o with_o the_o measure_n of_o grace_n which_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o the_o danger_n be_v great_a therefore_o than_o we_o be_v aware_a of_o when_o so_o rare_a a_o instrument_n and_o choose_a servant_n of_o god_o as_o be_v paul_n so_o hardly_o and_o with_o so_o much_o a_o do_v be_v bring_v to_o have_v a_o humble_a opinion_n of_o himself_o and_o his_o worthiness_n the_o romish_a religion_n likewise_o fight_v so_o stout_o for_o the_o desert_n of_o man_n may_v teach_v we_o that_o this_o doctrine_n of_o true_a humble_v and_o submit_v of_o ourselves_o unto_o our_o god_n will_v not_o so_o easy_o enter_v into_o flesh_n and_o blood_n as_o at_o the_o first_o we_o will_v imagine_v but_o that_o we_o have_v need_v often_o to_o set_v before_o we_o this_o look_a glass_n of_o the_o law_n in_o manner_n as_o have_v be_v declare_v to_o humble_v we_o withal_o and_o all_o shall_v be_v find_v little_a enough_o to_o bring_v we_o true_o from_o ourselves_o and_o to_o send_v we_o not_o in_o part_n but_o whole_o unto_o the_o mercy_n of_o our_o god_o which_o be_v declare_v unto_o we_o at_o large_a in_o the_o next_o lecture_n after_o the_o use_n of_o the_o law_n when_o we_o shall_v have_v profit_v in_o draw_v never_o unto_o christ_n and_o make_v much_o of_o his_o mercy_n by_o a_o often_o and_o true_a sight_n of_o ourselves_o in_o the_o law_n there_o be_v yet_o remain_v a_o other_o use_n and_o fruit_n to_o be_v take_v by_o it_o of_o no_o less_o profit_n than_o the_o former_a which_o be_v that_o when_o we_o shall_v have_v take_v comfort_n in_o the_o mercy_n of_o christ_n and_o decree_v to_o walk_v in_o the_o obedience_n of_o his_o will_n to_o declare_v our_o thankfulness_n thereby_o the_o law_n will_v stand_v we_o in_o good_a stead_n to_o quicken_v we_o thereunto_o while_o we_o learn_v by_o it_o both_o the_o number_n of_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v do_v and_o also_o the_o backwardness_n of_o our_o natural_a disposition_n and_o inclination_n thereunto_o which_o we_o can_v not_o once_o without_o this_o admonition_n from_o the_o law_n have_v suspect_v to_o have_v be_v so_o great_a and_o therefore_o our_o care_n to_o suppress_v it_o will_v have_v be_v so_o much_o the_o less_o but_o have_v determine_v once_o to_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o commandment_n and_o then_o have_v warning_n from_o the_o law_n that_o there_o be_v both_o in_o our_o wit_n and_o will_n enmity_n thereunto_o altogether_o bend_v to_o resist_v it_o it_o can_v not_o but_o increase_v our_o care_n and_o add_v unto_o our_o pain_n and_o travail_n for_o the_o attain_v unto_o that_o end_n of_o obedience_n which_o we_o have_v propound_v unto_o we_o for_o the_o man_n who_o have_v a_o desire_n unto_o any_o thing_n understand_v once_o of_o any_o let_v in_o the_o way_n be_v thereby_o more_o provoke_v and_o stir_v up_o to_o bestow_v care_n and_o pain_n upon_o the_o same_o know_v very_o well_o that_o the_o thing_n which_o he_o desire_v
we_o shall_v do_v some_o outward_a thing_n command_v here_o which_o shall_v obtain_v great_a commendation_n of_o many_o man_n and_o for_o all_o that_o the_o lord_n want_v his_o glory_n which_o consist_v in_o the_o four_o point_n which_o be_v speak_v of_o in_o the_o former_a commandment_n it_o shall_v avail_v we_o nothing_o those_o thing_n that_o appertain_v unto_o god_n must_v of_o necessity_n go_v with_o those_o duty_n unto_o man_n that_o shall_v be_v accept_v neither_o in_o deed_n can_v we_o hold_v out_o in_o these_o except_o we_o have_v life_n and_o encouragement_n from_o the_o other_o for_o the_o love_n that_o god_o be_v our_o god_n tender_o favour_v and_o plentiful_o reward_v we_o that_o be_v he_o must_v make_v we_o to_o persevere_v in_o those_o duty_n which_o otherwise_o will_v not_o abide_v the_o reproach_n and_o injury_n of_o man_n but_o will_v burst_v forth_o to_o requite_v they_o and_o much_o less_o will_v we_o labour_n to_o overcome_v they_o and_o their_o evil_n with_o our_o good_a do_v unto_o they_o but_o this_o persuasion_n of_o his_o good_a favour_n towards_o he_o and_o plentiful_a mercy_n which_o be_v to_o be_v show_v upon_o they_o make_v man_n willing_o to_o forbear_v the_o ensue_a and_o satisfy_v of_o their_o own_o corrupt_a affection_n not_o envy_v the_o wicked_a their_o transitory_a delight_n but_o prosecute_a their_o course_n in_o his_o obedience_n through_o all_o their_o reproach_n while_o they_o do_v well_o perceive_v what_o a_o plentiful_a recompense_n of_o reward_n abide_v for_o they_o by_o the_o free_a gift_n of_o their_o god._n the_o man_n that_o can_v be_v persuade_v but_o that_o he_o love_v his_o neighbour_n as_o himself_o perform_v all_o that_o be_v require_v of_o he_o in_o that_o behalf_n must_v be_v send_v to_o examine_v himself_o if_o there_o have_v at_o no_o time_n appear_v in_o he_o any_o cruel_a deal_n toward_o his_o inferior_n any_o neglect_n or_o delay_v in_o help_v and_o relieve_v the_o distress_a if_o compassion_n have_v always_o as_o occasion_v serve_v draw_v he_o to_o speedy_a relieve_v by_o lend_v or_o give_v so_o shall_v he_o easy_o see_v into_o the_o error_n of_o his_o opinion_n now_o let_v we_o pray_v unto_o our_o heavenly_a father_n that_o we_o may_v so_o see_v into_o our_o cruel_a and_o careless_a disposition_n that_o we_o may_v magnify_v the_o free_a mercy_n of_o our_o god_o in_o the_o forgiveness_n thereof_o and_o also_o have_v power_n more_o and_o more_o to_o subdue_v it_o that_o we_o abound_v in_o all_o merciful_a deal_n may_v glorify_v he_o in_o this_o life_n and_o be_v glorify_v of_o he_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v h.i._n ¶_o the_o seven_o lecture_n upon_o the_o 14._o verse_n 14_o thou_o shall_v not_o commit_v adultery_n we_o have_v learn_v already_o that_o the_o love_n which_o we_o owe_v to_o our_o neighbour_n stay_v not_o in_o his_o own_o person_n alone_o but_o proceed_v unto_o other_o thing_n that_o be_v precious_a and_o dear_a unto_o he_o in_o the_o which_o if_o he_o shall_v by_o we_o be_v annoy_v forth_o with_o in_o so_o do_v we_o shall_v be_v convict_v to_o be_v void_a of_o love_n and_o charity_n towards_o he_o for_o the_o excuse_n be_v vain_a and_o childish_a to_o say_v we_o love_v the_o man_n when_o we_o stick_v not_o there_o to_o vex_v he_o where_o we_o know_v it_o can_v be_v but_o that_o some_o great_a grief_n of_o heart_n will_v come_v unto_o he_o he_o that_o love_v a_o man_n in_o deed_n deal_v tender_o with_o all_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v especial_o like_v of_o that_o man_n fear_v most_o of_o all_o there_o to_o offend_v where_o he_o understand_v that_o he_o may_v the_o soon_a displease_v and_o because_o next_o to_o a_o man_n himself_o his_o wife_n ought_v to_o be_v most_o dear_a unto_o he_o the_o wrong_n that_o be_v do_v to_o wallow_v in_o any_o our_o thought_n shall_v be_v whole_o take_v up_o to_o the_o lord_n use_v and_o therefore_o may_v they_o not_o be_v let_v loose_a after_o good_n or_o benefit_n of_o our_o brethren_n with_o the_o alone_a charge_n to_o take_v heed_n how_o they_o full_o settle_v themselves_o in_o they_o but_o so_o they_o be_v sure_a of_o that_o otherwise_o to_o take_v no_o great_a care_n that_o they_o follow_v the_o delight_n of_o their_o neighbour_n pleasure_n or_o profit_n though_o not_o great_o settle_v in_o they_o but_o wanton_o wander_v by_o they_o why_o shall_v they_o not_o be_v fasten_v with_o delight_n and_o whole_a consent_n unto_o good_a thing_n have_v not_o the_o lord_n pay_v the_o price_n for_o body_n and_o soul_n and_o all_o that_o be_v in_o we_o why_o then_o shall_v not_o all_o be_v keep_v under_o his_o obedience_n without_o rove_a after_o our_o own_o desire_n either_o else_o why_o shall_v we_o excuse_v any_o thought_n stray_v and_o wander_v from_o he_o with_o this_o answer_n that_o it_o have_v return_v before_o it_o be_v go_v so_o far_o as_o possible_a it_o may_v this_o be_v no_o reasonable_a excuse_n nor_o plain_a deal_n before_o our_o god_n this_o be_v
