there_o be_v many_o distinct_a grace_n even_o as_o many_o as_o there_o be_v distinct_a faculty_n of_o man_n soul_n require_v in_o perfect_a holiness_n or_o yet_o as_o if_o it_o be_v the_o chief_a grace_n for_o faith_n have_v the_o first_o place_n although_o in_o nature_n it_o be_v not_o so_o excellent_a as_o love_v which_o be_v a_o heroical_a grace_n be_v the_o foundation_n and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o subject_n and_o groundwork_n not_o only_o of_o love_n but_o also_o of_o all_o other_o grace_n and_o of_o all_o holiness_n whether_o create_v or_o renew_v why_o then_o be_v love_n more_o speak_v of_o and_o inculcate_v in_o the_o scripture_n than_o faith_n or_o any_o other_o grace_n we_o answer_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v continual_o in_o endite_v the_o scripture_n respect_v to_o the_o capacity_n of_o man_n propound_v and_o commend_v unto_o they_o holiness_n not_o so_o much_o in_o gross_a and_o in_o general_a as_o in_o some_o particular_n which_o be_v more_o salvation_n from_o the_o which_o fountain_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n spring_v the_o love_n of_o all_o man_n but_o especial_o of_o the_o godly_a who_o be_v renew_v according_a to_o the_o image_n of_o god_n in_o holiness_n and_o justice_n 3._o psal._n 16._o 3._o all_o my_o delight_n be_v in_o the_o holy_a one_o which_o be_v here_o on_o earth_n and_o cheiflie_n in_o those_o which_o excel_v in_o of_o the_o soul_n which_o have_v already_o be_v declare_v and_o which_o may_v be_v call_v speculative_a there_o be_v a_o other_o kind_n common_o call_v practical_a because_o they_o be_v exercise_v in_o action_n as_o the_o other_o be_v in_o contemplation_n this_o latter_a kind_n be_v necessary_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o perfection_n of_o man_n soul_n add_v to_o the_o former_a that_o as_o by_o the_o one_o he_o see_v &_o know_v what_o ought_v to_o be_v do_v so_o by_o the_o other_o he_o may_v move_v himself_o to_o the_o do_v &_o perform_v of_o it_o for_o howsoever_o they_o be_v join_v to_o practical_a faculty_n have_v the_o great_a stroke_n in_o our_o action_n will_n do_v contain_v in_o they_o a_o great_a part_n of_o man_n holiness_n and_o that_o whereon_o all_o the_o rest_n do_v except_o he_o listen_v for_o he_o have_v the_o whole_a authority_n in_o his_o own_o hand_n can_v be_v compel_v by_o any_o the_o holiness_n of_o these_o practical_a faculty_n which_o be_v usual_o in_o as_o good_a to_o these_o faculty_n but_o that_o which_o be_v indeed_o good_a and_o to_o be_v embrace_v by_o they_o these_o practical_a faculty_n
this_o be_v to_o be_v ascribe_v not_o to_o any_o natural_a impossibility_n of_o sin_v which_o be_v not_o to_o be_v admit_v or_o suppose_v in_o any_o creature_n no_o not_o in_o the_o humane_a nature_n of_o christ_n to_o the_o which_o the_o sin_n of_o mankind_n can_v not_o have_v be_v impute_v if_o it_o have_v be_v natural_o uncapable_a of_o sin_n but_o to_o the_o love_n and_o grace_n of_o god_n thing_n incident_a into_o his_o nature_n if_o it_o be_v say_v that_o god_n may_v have_v confirm_v he_o with_o his_o grace_n we_o answer_v that_o that_o be_v true_a but_o he_o neither_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v it_o neither_o do_v or_o can_v think_v man_n worthy_a of_o more_o grace_n who_o do_v abuse_v so_o many_o and_o so_o excellent_a grace_n as_o he_o have_v by_o nature_n sect._n 2._o of_o the_o suggest_v by_o the_o mind_n wherein_o there_o be_v a_o little_a light_n remain_v since_o the_o first_o creation_n â—ill_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o follow_v and_o obey_v but_o froward_o reject_v by_o the_o practical_a faculty_n and_o so_o the_o understand_a faculty_n which_o be_v darken_v &_o blind_v by_o the_o fall_n of_o man_n lead_v the_o practical_a faculty_n which_o by_o their_o own_o marvel_n be_v it_o that_o the_o will_n itself_o be_v sinful_a see_v by_o it_o all_o the_o other_o faculty_n of_o man_n soul_n and_o body_n be_v make_v sinful_a yea_o it_o be_v more_o sinful_a than_o the_o former_a faculty_n and_o so_o be_v just_o punish_v for_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o man_n sinfulness_n for_o it_o do_v more_o if_o more_o can_v be_v abhor_v and_o refuse_v good_a than_o the_o mind_n be_v ignorant_a of_o it_o the_o mean_n whereby_o the_o will_n become_v sinful_a be_v the_o own_o default_n for_o it_o be_v create_v by_o god_n actual_o only_o good_a and_o potential_o more_o of_o he_o that_o be_v so_o careful_a and_o diligent_a in_o use_v they_o that_o he_o may_v seem_v to_o have_v change_v his_o own_o will_n from_o evil_a to_o good_a this_o we_o see_v in_o the_o conversion_n of_o the_o apostle_n paul_n who_o will_n be_v most_o spiteful_o bend_v against_o the_o gospel_n be_v in_o one_o moment_n change_v to_o the_o true_a love_n of_o it_o but_o how_o be_v the_o will_n after_o this_o work_n of_o regeneration_n be_v it_o as_o idle_a and_o unable_a to_o do_v any_o thing_n as_o before_o or_o be_v it_o now_o able_a of_o itself_o without_o the_o immediate_a work_n good_a in_o he_o as_o be_v the_o create_a might_n and_o power_n of_o his_o nature_n nor_o essential_o for_o the_o substance_n of_o his_o nature_n remain_v uncorrupt_a as_o in_o the_o holy_a angel_n it_o do_v in_o that_o respect_n abhor_v and_o avoid_v it_o as_o will_v appear_v more_o plain_o in_o the_o particular_n as_o namely_o in_o love_n and_o hatred_n the_o which_o affection_n be_v both_o common_a and_o strong_a in_o carnal_a man_n yet_o not_o hole_o &_o right_o dispose_v in_o they_o for_o they_o do_v rather_o love_v that_o which_o they_o shall_v hate_v and_o hate_v that_o which_o they_o shall_v love_v than_o love_n and_o hate_n that_o which_o ought_v to_o be_v love_v and_o hate_v first_o as_o touch_v god_n on_o who_o man_n ought_v to_o set_v his_o whole_a love_n a_o carnal_a church_n be_v restrain_v by_o the_o shame_n of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n from_o profess_v themselves_o to_o be_v hater_n of_o god_n yet_o in_o that_o they_o do_v hate_v the_o minister_n and_o servant_n of_o god_n which_o do_v zealous_o preach_v and_o profess_v his_o gospel_n behave_v themselves_o spiteful_o contumelious_o and_o malicious_o towards_o they_o it_o be_v that_o may_v be_v call_v love_n and_o not_o rather_o hatred_n which_o bring_v to_o everlasting_a destruction_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o worldly_a and_o fleshly_a pleasure_n soft_a apparel_n and_o to_o go_v brave_o sweet_a meat_n and_o to_o fare_v dainty_o fair_a building_n for_o outward_a pomp_n and_o vainglory_n scotfree_a coffer_n without_o any_o scarcity_n new_a pastime_n &_o merry_a company_n sleep_n ease_n idleness_n warmness_n &_o whatsoever_o may_v please_v the_o mind_n or_o tickle_v the_o outward_a sense_n hatred_n that_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o man_n love_v but_o what_o say_v you_o to_o the_o stream_n which_o come_v from_o this_o self_n love_n do_v not_o man_n in_o this_o sinful_a estate_n love_v his_o parent_n child_n wife_n friend_n and_o acquaintance_n we_o
