terror_n so_o that_o serious_a consideration_n will_v make_v a_o future_a judgement_n very_o effectual_a to_o govern_v our_o life_n but_o the_o great_a difficulty_n of_o all_o be_v to_o bring_v man_n to_o consider_v and_o yet_o one_o will_v think_v it_o impossible_a that_o a_o reasonable_a creature_n shall_v not_o consider_v that_o he_o must_v be_v judge_v but_o so_o it_o be_v and_o there_o be_v no_o dispute_v against_o experience_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v so_o dangerous_a and_o fatal_a a_o neglect_n that_o it_o concern_v we_o to_o inquire_v into_o the_o cause_n and_o remedy_n of_o it_o for_o can_v we_o cure_v this_o it_o will_v quick_o reform_v the_o world_n give_v a_o new_a resurrection_n to_o piety_n and_o virtue_n and_o secure_a man_n from_o the_o danger_n and_o terror_n of_o a_o future_a judgement_n now_o there_o be_v two_o apparent_a cause_n of_o this_o 1._o that_o the_o thought_n of_o judgement_n be_v very_o uneasy_a and_o troublesome_a and_o that_o make_v man_n afraid_a capacity_n of_o man_n till_o it_o come_v to_o the_o full_a maturity_n and_o perfection_n of_o gospel-grace_n what_o a_o delightful_a prospect_n will_v this_o be_v to_o good_a man_n how_o will_v it_o enlarge_v their_o knowledge_n increase_v their_o wonder_n inflame_v their_o devotion_n how_o will_v it_o confound_v bad_a man_n especial_o all_o the_o profane_a scoffer_n at_o god_n and_o his_o providence_n how_o will_v this_o aggravate_v and_o increase_v their_o torment_n that_o they_o will_v be_v force_v to_o admire_v and_o justify_v god_n in_o their_o own_o damnation_n which_o must_v turn_v all_o their_o rage_n and_o fury_n upon_o themselves_o this_o be_v reason_n enough_o why_o god_n shall_v judge_v the_o world_n all_o together_o to_o justify_v himself_o to_o all_o his_o creature_n and_o to_o make_v a_o glorious_a discovery_n of_o all_o the_o wonder_n and_o mystery_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o providence_n good_a man_n see_v enough_o at_o present_a to_o admire_v and_o praise_n god_n but_o now_o as_o st._n paul_n tell_v we_o we_o know_v in_o part_n and_o we_o prophesy_v in_o part_n but_o when_o that_o which_o be_v perfect_a be_v come_v then_o that_o which_o be_v fortune_n and_o station_n in_o this_o world_n that_o some_o be_v rich_a other_o poor_a some_o prince_n and_o noble_n entrust_v with_o great_a power_n other_o subject_n and_o expose_v to_o the_o will_n and_o lust_n of_o prince_n for_o this_o be_v more_o easy_o account_v for_o such_o different_a rank_n of_o man_n be_v necessary_a to_o good_a order_n and_o government_n in_o the_o world_n but_o i_o mean_v with_o respect_n to_o their_o soul_n and_o their_o eternal_a state_n that_o god_n have_v not_o take_v equal_a care_n to_o instruct_v all_o mankind_n in_o their_o duty_n to_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o danger_n of_o sin_n and_o the_o reward_n and_o punishment_n of_o the_o next_o life_n and_o the_o certainty_n of_o a_o future_a judgement_n and_o this_o be_v too_o visible_a to_o be_v deny_v god_n suffer_v mankind_n to_o fall_v into_o idolatry_n and_o when_o they_o have_v corrupt_v their_o natural_a notion_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a send_v no_o prophet_n among_o they_o to_o instruct_v they_o better_o and_o when_o after_o some_o age_n he_o call_v abraham_n out_o of_o ur_fw-la of_o the_o chaldee_n and_o have_v try_v his_o faith_n and_o obedience_n enter_v into_o covenant_n with_o he_o yet_o he_o confine_v his_o covenant_n to_o his_o posterity_n who_o he_o choose_v for_o his_o peculiar_a people_n and_o take_v no_o visible_a care_n of_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o world_n and_o though_o this_o be_v a_o great_a privilege_n of_o israel_n above_o the_o rest_n of_o mankind_n yet_o the_o moysaicall_a law_n be_v but_o a_o weak_a and_o imperfect_a dispensation_n but_o a_o childish_a pedagogie_n and_o the_o jewish_a church_n but_o in_o the_o state_n of_o servant_n or_o of_o a_o heir_n under_o age._n and_o though_o god_n do_v at_o last_o send_v christ_n into_o the_o peculiar_a reward_n of_o charity_n and_o to_o make_v we_o as_o much_o afraid_a of_o all_o uncharitableness_n as_o we_o be_v of_o any_o other_o the_o most_o enormous_a and_o flagitious_a crime_n since_o uncharitableness_n will_v damn_v we_o though_o we_o be_v guilty_a if_o that_o be_v possible_a of_o no_o other_o sin_n and_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n to_o enforce_v this_o duty_n on_o we_o because_o few_o man_n have_v so_o great_a a_o sense_n of_o the_o necessity_n and_o obligation_n of_o charity_n as_o they_o have_v of_o moral_a honesty_n and_o justice_n all_o mankind_n have_v a_o natural_a sense_n of_o the_o great_a evil_n of_o rapine_n and_o injustice_n and_o murder_n to_o defraud_v man_n of_o their_o estate_n or_o to_o take_v they_o by_o force_n and_o violence_n to_o oppress_v the_o poor_a the_o fatherless_a and_o the_o widow_n or_o to_o murder_v the_o innocent_a their_o conscience_n terrify_v and_o scare_v they_o with_o such_o guilt_n but_o they_o have_v but_o little_a sense_n of_o the_o obligation_n to_o charity_n and_o of_o the_o great_a sin_n and_o danger_n of_o uncharitableness_n they_o can_v see_v man_n hungry_a and_o thirsty_a and_o naked_a and_o sick_a and_o in_o prison_n without_o minister_a to_o they_o and_o though_o they_o will_v acknowledge_v such_o act_n of_o charity_n to_o be_v very_o good_a and_o commendable_a yet_o charge_v themselves_o with_o no_o guilt_n for_o neglect_v they_o but_o if_o none_o shall_v be_v save_v at_o the_o last_o day_n but_o the_o kind_n and_o the_o charitable_a if_o we_o shall_v be_v condemn_v at_o the_o last_o day_n to_o that_o everlasting_a fire_n prepare_v for_o the_o devil_n and_o his_o angel_n for_o do_v no_o good_a though_o we_o shall_v do_v no_o other_o evil_n as_o we_o certain_o shall_v if_o our_o saviour_n give_v we_o a_o true_a account_n of_o the_o process_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n this_o if_o any_o thing_n will_v make_v man_n sensible_a how_o necessary_a it_o be_v to_o do_v all_o the_o good_a they_o can_v as_o necessary_a as_o it_o be_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n that_o they_o may_v as_o safe_o with_o respect_n to_o another_o world_n rob_v and_o steal_v and_o cheat_v and_o oppress_v as_o not_o relieve_v the_o want_n of_o the_o poor_a as_o far_o as_o christian_a prudence_n and_o charity_n direct_v for_o they_o shall_v be_v damn_v for_o this_o as_o well_o as_o for_o the_o great_a injustice_n 2_o dly_z our_o saviour_n hereby_o signify_v that_o this_o divine_a charity_n be_v the_o perfection_n of_o all_o other_o christian_a grace_n and_o virtue_n and_o comprehend_v they_o all_o for_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o no_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v without_o a_o universal_a righteousness_n and_o yet_o our_o saviour_n inquire_v only_o after_o charity_n as_o the_o only_a mark_n and_o criterion_n of_o a_o universal_a righteousness_n for_o where_o that_o be_v in_o sincerity_n there_o be_v a_o combination_n of_o all_o other_o grace_n our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o that_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o man_n be_v the_o sum_n of_o the_o whole_a law_n and_o the_o prophet_n 22_o mat._n 36_o 37_o 38_o 39_o 40._o and_o st._n paul_n tell_v we_o he_o that_o love_v another_o have_v fulfil_v the_o law_n love_n work_v no_o ill_a to_o his_o neighbour_n therefore_o love_n be_v the_o fulfil_n of_o the_o law_n 13_o rom._n 8_o 9_o 10._o he_o that_o love_v his_o neighbour_n will_v do_v he_o no_o hurt_n but_o will_v do_v he_o all_o the_o good_a he_o can_v and_o this_o divine_a love_n of_o man_n result_v from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n who_o creature_n they_o be_v and_o who_o image_n they_o bear_v and_o therefore_o include_v the_o love_n of_o god_n as_o its_o cause_n for_o there_o be_v no_o other_o principle_n of_o universal_a love_n and_o charity_n though_o of_o particular_a friendship_n there_o be_v and_o therefore_o st._n john_n make_v this_o the_o trial_n of_o our_o love_n to_o god_n if_o a_o man_n say_v i_o love_v god_n and_o hate_v his_o brother_n he_o be_v a_o liar_n for_o he_o that_o love_v not_o his_o brother_n who_o he_o have_v see_v how_o can_v he_o love_v god_n who_o he_o have_v not_o see_v and_o this_o commandment_n have_v we_o from_o he_o that_o he_o who_o love_v god_n love_v his_o brother_n also_o 1_o john_n 4.20_o 21._o thus_o much_o be_v certain_a from_o this_o text_n that_o no_o man_n love_v god_n who_o do_v not_o love_v his_o brother_n and_o i_o believe_v there_o never_o be_v a_o instance_n of_o true_a universal_a charity_n without_o the_o love_n of_o god_n but_o not_o to_o make_v a_o dispute_n of_o that_o since_o humanity_n and_o greatness_n and_o generosity_n of_o mind_n will_v in_o some_o man_n very_o near_o resemble_v and_o counterseit_v a_o universal_a charity_n the_o charity_n our_o saviour_n speak_v of_o be_v this_o divine_a charity_n which_o flow_v from_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n when_o we_o love_v man_n for_o god_n sake_n and_o christian_n as_o the_o member_n and_o the_o brethren_n of_o christ_n and_o therefore_o he_o account_v all_o the_o kindness_n show_v to_o they_o for_o his_o sake_n as_o do_v to_o himself_o inasmuch_o as_o you_o have_v do_v it_o to_o one_o of_o the_o least_o of_o these_o my_o brethren_n you_o have_v do_v it_o unto_o i_o this_o divine_a charity_n contain_v the_o exercise_n of_o all_o other_o christian_a grace_n where_o this_o be_v no_o other_o
