and_o thereby_o a_o more_o clear_a discern_a of_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o wisdom_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n therein_o but_o whatever_o be_v our_o attainment_n herein_o that_o which_o obstruct_v this_o light_n that_o hinder_v it_o from_o shine_v in_o a_o due_a manner_n that_o obstruct_v and_o hinder_v faith_n in_o its_o view_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ._n and_o spiritual_a operation_n that_o be_v where_o any_o corrupt_a and_o inordinate_a affection_n as_o love_v of_o the_o world_n care_v about_o it_o inclination_n unto_o sensuality_n or_o the_o like_a spiritual_a disorder_n do_v prevail_v faith_n be_v weaken_v in_o its_o spiritual_a act_n especial_o in_o discern_v and_o behold_v the_o glory_n of_o christ._n for_o the_o mind_n be_v render_v unsteady_a in_o its_o inquiry_n after_o it_o be_v continual_o distract_v and_o divert_v with_o vain_a thought_n and_o imagination_n person_n under_o the_o power_n of_o such_o distemper_n may_v have_v be_v continual_o make_v approach_n towards_o their_o use_n and_o veneration_n in_o painting_n and_o altar_n and_o such_o outward_a posture_n of_o worship_n as_o be_v use_v in_o the_o religious_a service_n of_o they_o but_o that_o they_o do_v sensible_o affect_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n carnal_a and_o superstitious_a can_v be_v deny_v and_o as_o they_o suppose_v it_o be_v a_o love_n unto_o christ_n himself_o however_o certain_a it_o be_v in_o general_a and_o confess_v on_o all_o hand_n that_o the_o behold_v of_o christ_n

of_o the_o great_a evangelical_n privilege_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v the_o marrow_n of_o divine_a promise_n all_o real_a endeavour_n of_o a_o vital_a communion_n with_o christ._n such_o be_v spiritual_a peace_n refresh_v consolation_n ineffable_a joy_n and_o the_o bless_a composure_n of_o assurance_n without_o some_o taste_n and_o experience_n of_o these_o thing_n profession_n be_v heartless_a lifeless_a useless_a and_o religion_n itself_o a_o dead_a carcase_n without_o a_o animate_v soul._n the_o peace_n which_o some_o enjoy_v be_v a_o mere_a stupidity_n they_o judge_v not_o these_o thing_n to_o be_v real_a which_o be_v the_o substance_n of_o christ_n present_a reward_n and_o a_o renunciation_n whereof_o will_v deprive_v the_o church_n of_o its_o principal_a supportment_n and_o encouragement_n in_o all_o its_o suffering_n it_o be_v a_o great_a evidence_n of_o the_o power_n of_o unbelief_n when_o we_o can_v satisfy_v ourselves_o without_o a_o experience_n in_o our_o own_o heart_n of_o the_o great_a thing_n in_o this_o kind_n of_o joy_n peace_n consolation_n assurance_n that_o be_v promise_v in_o the_o gospel_n for_o how_o can_v it_o be_v suppose_v that_o we_o do_v indeed_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o thing_n future_a namely_o of_o heaven_n immortality_n and_o glory_n the_o faith_n whereof_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o religion_n when_o we_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o the_o present_a reward_n in_o these_o spiritual_a privilege_n and_o how_o shall_v we_o be_v think_v to_o believe_v they_o when_o we_o do_v not_o endeavour_v after_o a_o experience_n of_o the_o thing_n themselves_o in_o our_o own_o soul_n but_o be_v even_o content_v without_o they_o but_o herein_o man_n deceive_v themselves_o they_o will_v very_o desirous_o have_v evangelical_a joy_n peace_n and_o assurance_n to_o countenance_v they_o in_o their_o evil_a frame_n and_o careless_a walk_n and_o some_o have_v attempt_v to_o reconcile_v these_o our_o heart_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n nor_o as_o the_o witness_v of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n with_o our_o spirit_n that_o we_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n from_o which_o these_o spiritual_a joy_n and_o refreshment_n be_v inseparable_a as_o their_o necessary_a effect_n no_o such_o thing_n as_o the_o lift_n up_o of_o the_o light_n of_o god_n countenance_n upon_o we_o which_o will_v put_v gladness_n into_o our_o heart_n that_o gladness_n which_o comprise_v all_o the_o thing_n mention_v no_o such_o

will_v be_v active_a unto_o our_o own_o refresh_a experience_n and_o where_o these_o thing_n be_v not_o in_o reality_n though_o in_o some_o they_o may_v be_v only_o in_o a_o mean_a and_o low_a glorious_a representation_n of_o he_o unto_o our_o edification_n and_o as_o we_o have_v no_o such_o external_a proposal_n of_o his_o glory_n unto_o we_o in_o vision_n so_o neither_o have_v we_o any_o new_a revelation_n of_o he_o by_o immediate_a inspiration_n we_o can_v see_v nothing_o of_o it_o know_v nothing_o of_o it_o but_o what_o be_v propose_v unto_o we_o in_o the_o scripture_n and_o that_o as_o it_o be_v propose_v nor_o do_v the_o scripture_n itself_o in_o any_o one_o place_n make_v a_o entire_a proposal_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n with_o all_o that_o belong_v unto_o it_o nor_o be_v it_o capable_a of_o so_o do_v nor_o can_v there_o be_v any_o such_o representation_n of_o it_o unto_o our_o capacity_n on_o this_o side_n heaven_n if_o all_o the_o light_n of_o the_o heavenly_a of_o his_o love_n and_o condescension_n in_o his_o office_n and_o his_o glory_n therein_o his_o humiliation_n exaltation_n and_o power_n be_v in_o like_a manner_n in_o sundry_a place_n represent_v unto_o we_o and_o as_o one_o star_n differ_v from_o another_o in_o glory_n so_o it_o be_v one_o way_n whereby_o god_n represent_v the_o glory_n of_o christ_n in_o type_n and_o shadow_n under_o the_o old_a testament_n and_o another_o wherein_o it_o be_v declare_v in_o the_o new_a illustrious_a testimony_n upon_o all_o these_o thing_n be_v plant_v up_o and_o down_o in_o the_o scripture_n which_o study_n of_o the_o scripture_n to_o find_v out_o the_o revelation_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v make_v therein_o as_o do_v the_o prophet_n of_o old_a as_o unto_o what_o they_o speak_v of_o the_o thing_n which_o we_o admire_v which_o we_o adore_v which_o we_o love_v which_o we_o long_o for_o which_o we_o have_v some_o foreta_v of_o in_o sweetness_n inessable_a which_o yet_o we_o can_v comprehend_v these_o be_v some_o few_o of_o those_o thing_n whence_o arise_v the_o difference_n between_o that_o view_n which_o we_o have_v here_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n and_o that_o which_o be_v reserve_v for_o heaven_n namely_o such_o as_o be_v take_v from_o the_o difference_n between_o the_o mean_n or_o instrument_n of_o the_o one_o and_o the_o other_o faith_n and_o sight_n in_o the_o last_o place_n the_o great_a difference_n between_o they_o consist_v in_o and_o be_v manifest_v by_o their_o effect_n hereof_o i_o shall_v give_v some_o few_o instance_n and_o close_o this_o discourse_n 1._o the_o vision_n which_o we_o shall_v have_v of_o the_o glory_n of_o christ_n in_o heaven_n and_o of_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o immense_a god_n in_o he_o be_v perfect_o partaker_n of_o christ_n all_o that_o i_o have_v further_o to_o add_v will_v be_v of_o no_o signification_n remember_v then_o that_o the_o due_a consideration_n hereof_o be_v unto_o you_o in_o your_o state_n your_o chief_a concernment_n in_o this_o world_n and_o be_v not_o afraid_a to_o take_v in_o a_o full_a and_o deep_a sense_n of_o it_o for_o if_o you_o be_v real_o deliver_v from_o it_o and_o have_v good_a evidence_n thereof_o it_o be_v nothing_o unto_o you_o but_o matter_n of_o eternal_a praise_n and_o thanksgiving_n and_o if_o you_o be_v not_o so_o it_o be_v high_o necessary_a that_o your_o mind_n shall_v be_v possess_v with_o due_a apprehension_n of_o it_o the_o work_n of_o this_o conviction_n be_v the_o first_o effect_n of_o true_a religion_n and_o the_o great_a abuse_n of_o religion_n in_o the_o world_n be_v that_o a_o pretence_n of_o it_o delude_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n to_o apprehend_v that_o it_o be_v not_o necessary_a for_o to_o be_v of_o this_o or_o that_o religion_n of_o this_o or_o that_o way_n in_o religion_n be_v suppose_v sufficient_a to_o secure_v the_o eternal_a state_n of_o man_n though_o they_o be_v never_o convince_v of_o their_o lose_a estate_n by_o nature_n 4._o hereon_o consider_v the_o infinite_a condescension_n and_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o invitation_n and_o call_n of_o you_o to_o come_v unto_o he_o for_o life_n deliverance_n mercy_n grace_n peace_n and_o eternal_a salvation_n multitude_n of_o these_o invitation_n and_o call_n be_v record_v in_o the_o scripture_n and_o they_o be_v all_o of_o they_o fill_v up_o with_o those_o bless_a encouragement_n which_o divine_a wisdom_n know_v to_o be_v suit_v unto_o lose_a convince_a sinner_n in_o their_o present_a state_n and_o condition_n it_o be_v a_o bless_a contemplation_n to_o dwell_v on_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o infinite_a condescension_n grace_n and_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o his_o invitation_n of_o sinner_n to_o come_v unto_o he_o that_o glory_n he_o have_v appoint_v the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o appear_v before_o you_o and_o to_o deal_v with_o you_o in_o his_o stead_n avow_v as_o his_o own_o the_o invitation_n that_o be_v give_v you_o in_o his_o name_n 2_o cor._n 5._o 19_o 20._o consider_v therefore_o his_o infinite_a condescension_n grace_n and_o love_n herein_o why_o all_o this_o towards_o you_o do_v he_o stand_v sensible_a of_o what_o discouragement_n they_o have_v to_o conflict_n withal_o what_o difficulty_n lie_v in_o their_o way_n and_o what_o objection_n do_v arise_v against_o they_o for_o the_o most_o do_v perish_v in_o a_o senseless_a stupidity_n they_o will_v not_o consider_v how_o it_o be_v with_o they_o what_o be_v require_v of_o they_o nor_o how_o it_o will_v be_v in_o the_o latter_a end_n they_o doubt_v not_o but_o that_o either_o they_o do_v believe_v already_o or_o can_v do_v so_o when_o they_o please_v but_o when_o any_o come_v so_o far_o as_o to_o charge_v the_o failure_n of_o their_o acceptance_n with_o christ_n on_o their_o own_o unworthiness_n and_o so_o be_v discourage_v from_o come_v unto_o he_o there_o be_v argument_n for_o their_o conviction_n and_o persuasion_n the_o unbelief_n of_o all_o unto_o who_o the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v that_o come_v not_o unto_o he_o unbelief_n act_v
unto_o he_o whereof_o they_o express_v first_o the_o cause_n which_o be_v his_o mere_a grace_n and_o mercy_n for_o in_o thou_o the_o fatherless_a find_v mercy_n and_o second_o the_o effect_n of_o it_o which_o be_v praise_n and_o thanksgiving_n so_o will_v we_o render_v the_o calf_n of_o our_o li_n and_o some_o thing_n we_o may_v hence_o far_o observe_v as_o unto_o the_o case_n under_o consideration_n as_o 1._o although_o god_n will_v repair_v our_o spiritual_a decay_n and_o heal_v our_o backslide_n free_o yet_o he_o will_v do_v it_o so_o or_o in_o such_o a_o way_n as_o wherein_o he_o may_v communicate_v grace_n unto_o we_o to_o the_o praise_n of_o his_o own_o glory_n therefore_o be_v these_o duty_n prescribe_v unto_o we_o in_o order_n thereunto_o for_o although_o they_o be_v not_o the_o procure_a cause_n of_o the_o love_n and_o grace_n from_o whence_o alone_o we_o be_v heal_v yet_o be_v they_o require_v in_o the_o method_n of_o the_o dispensation_n of_o grace_n to_o precede_v the_o effect_n of_o they_o nor_o have_v we_o any_o where_o a_o more_o illustrious_a instance_n and_o testimony_n of_o the_o consistency_n and_o harmony_n which_o be_v between_o sovereign_a
