former_a way_n and_o spend_v much_o humiliation_n for_o your_o sin_n herein_o and_o not_o to_o be_v so_o greedy_a of_o it_o as_o some_o be_v they_o must_v have_v the_o communion_n but_o i_o put_v it_o to_o your_o conscience_n have_v you_o repent_v you_o for_o the_o profane_v of_o god_n name_n and_o that_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v further_o have_v speak_v of_o that_o god_n will_v be_v sanctify_v that_o be_v thus_o if_o we_o do_v not_o sanctify_v god_n name_n it_o will_v quite_o turn_v to_o the_o contrary_a it_o be_v the_o proper_a end_n of_o the_o sacrament_n to_o seal_v up_o our_o salvation_n but_o if_o we_o sanctify_v not_o god_n name_n it_o will_v seal_v up_o our_o condemnation_n if_o it_o have_v not_o be_v thy_o endeavour_n to_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n so_o many_o time_n as_o thou_o have_v receive_v the_o sacrament_n so_o many_o seal_n have_v thou_o upon_o thou_o for_o the_o seal_n up_o of_o thy_o condemnation_n but_o yet_o for_o thy_o comfort_n while_o thou_o be_v alive_a it_o be_v possible_a that_o these_o sell_v may_v be_v break_v open_a as_o we_o read_v in_o the_o revelation_n that_o john_n see_v the_o book_n that_o have_v seven_o seal_n upon_o it_o and_o none_o can_v be_v find_v that_o be_v able_a to_o open_v it_o at_o length_n the_o lamb_n that_o be_v slay_v he_o be_v find_v worthy_a to_o open_v the_o book_n so_o i_o say_v thy_o condemnation_n they_o be_v save_v by_o the_o same_o blood_n that_o they_o have_v shed_v as_o in_o act_n 2._o so_o though_o thou_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o shed_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n again_o and_o again_o by_o thy_o profane_a come_n to_o the_o sacrament_n yet_o know_v see_v there_o be_v life_n in_o thou_o and_o the_o day_n of_o grace_n be_v continue_v it_o be_v possible_a that_o thy_o soul_n may_v be_v save_v by_o that_o blood_n that_o thou_o have_v crucify_v oh_o how_o many_o be_v cut_v off_o that_o have_v thus_o profane_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o this_o sacrament_n and_o never_o come_v to_o understand_v this_o danger_n they_o be_v cut_v off_o and_o now_o be_v undo_v for_o ever_o then_o bless_v god_n that_o thou_o be_v alive_a to_o hear_v more_o about_o this_o sacrament_n and_o how_o god_n name_v shall_v be_v sanctify_v that_o thou_o be_v alive_a and_o have_v time_n to_o repent_v the_o of_o this_o great_a evil_n of_o profane_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o this_o holy_a sacrament_n sermon_n xiii_o leviticus_n 10._o 3._o i_o will_v be_v sanctify_v in_o they_o that_o come_v nigh_o i_o there_o be_v one_o thing_n more_o about_o the_o sanctify_a the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o the_o nature_n they_o be_v due_a to_o god_n but_o the_o sacrament_n be_v a_o duty_n of_o worship_n that_o be_v only_o by_o institution_n and_o if_o god_n have_v not_o reveal_v it_o we_o have_v not_o be_v bind_v to_o it_o therefore_o in_o these_o duty_n of_o institution_n god_n stand_v very_o punctual_a upon_o they_o we_o must_v be_v very_o exact_a neither_o to_o err_v on_o the_o right_a hand_n nor_o the_o left_a to_o make_v any_o alteration_n in_o the_o point_n of_o institution_n now_o therefore_o for_o the_o institution_n of_o this_o sacrament_n we_o find_v it_o in_o divers_a of_o the_o evangelist_n in_o matth._n 26._o 26._o there_o you_o shall_v find_v that_o christ_n and_o his_o disciple_n they_o eat_v the_o sacrament_n together_o and_o this_o be_v the_o way_n of_o it_o they_o be_v near_o as_o they_o can_v and_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o that_o otherwise_o you_o will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o attain_v the_o end_n why_o god_n shall_v have_v you_o come_v to_o receive_v the_o have_v he_o body_n and_o blood_n and_o human_a nature_n upon_o he_o oh_o how_o have_v god_n honour_v humane_a nature_n then_o let_v not_o i_o abuse_v my_o body_n to_o lust_n to_o wickedness_n see_v that_o jesus_n christ_n have_v take_v the_o body_n of_o man_n upon_o he_o humane_a nature_n upon_o he_o let_v i_o honour_v humane_a nature_n that_o be_v so_o near_o unite_v to_o the_o divine_a nature_n that_o be_v the_o second_o meditation_n med._n 3._o here_o be_v present_v unto_o we_o what_o this_o mediator_n have_v do_v for_o the_o reconcile_n of_o we_o unto_o god_n that_o his_o body_n crucify_v the_o lord_n of_o glory_n that_o be_v the_o scripture_n phrase_n we_o shall_v consider_v when_o we_o see_v the_o wine_n pour_v out_o and_o so_o put_v in_o mind_n of_o blood_n who_o blood_n and_o who_o body_n be_v this_o it_o be_v no_o other_o but_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o he_o that_o be_v true_o god_n the_o second_o person_n in_o trinity_n this_o be_v the_o great_a mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o this_o be_v very_o needful_a for_o we_o to_o be_v think_v of_o when_o we_o see_v the_o body_n break_v and_o the_o blood_n pour_v out_o what_o will_v the_o break_n of_o the_o body_n and_o shed_v of_o the_o blood_n of_o a_o mere_a creature_n be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v peace_n between_o god_n and_o man_n sure_o no_o therefore_o you_o must_v meditate_v who_o body_n this_o be_v and_o who_o blood_n this_o be_v it_o be_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o he_o that_o be_v god_n it_o be_v true_a god_n have_v no_o body_n nor_o no_o blood_n but_o the_o same_o person_n that_o be_v god_n have_v a_o body_n and_o blood_n that_o body_n and_o blood_n be_v unite_v unto_o the_o divine_a nature_n in_o a_o hypostatical_a union_n and_o from_o thence_o it_o come_v to_o have_v a_o efficacy_n for_o to_o satisfy_v god_n for_o to_o reconcile_v god_n and_o we_o together_o this_o be_v the_o great_a mystery_n of_o godliness_n med._n 5._o another_o meditation_n be_v this_o when_o you_o see_v the_o bread_n break_v and_o wing_n pour_v out_o oh_o the_o infinite_a dreadfulness_n of_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n how_o dreadful_a be_v the_o justice_n of_o god_n that_o come_v upon_o his_o own_o son_n and_o require_v satisfaction_n from_o he_o that_o shall_v thus_o break_v he_o and_o bruise_v he_o that_o shall_v have_v his_o blood_n that_o shall_v require_v such_o suffering_n even_o from_o his_o son_n dreadful_a be_v god_n justice_n the_o justice_n of_o god_n it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v and_o to_o be_v tremble_v at_o here_o we_o see_v what_o be_v require_v for_o the_o sin_n be_v that_o have_v make_v such_o a_o breach_n between_o god_n and_o my_o soul_n that_o only_o such_o a_o way_n and_o such_o a_o mean_n must_v take_v away_o my_o sin_n i_o must_v either_o have_v lie_v under_o the_o burden_n of_o my_o sin_n eternal_o or_o jesus_n christ_n that_n god_n and_o man_n must_v suffer_v so_o much_o for_o it_o oh_o what_o meditation_n be_v these_o to_o take_v up_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n med._n 8._o behold_v the_o infinite_a love_n of_o god_n to_o mankind_n and_o the_o love_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o rather_o than_o god_n will_v see_v the_o child_n of_o man_n to_o perish_v eternal_o he_o will_v send_v his_o son_n to_o take_v our_o nature_n upon_o he_o and_o thus_o to_o suffer_v such_o dreadful_a thing_n herein_o god_n show_v his_o love_n it_o be_v not_o the_o love_n of_o god_n so_o much_o in_o give_v you_o a_o good_a voyage_n and_o prosper_v you_o outward_o in_o the_o world_n but_o so_o god_n love_v the_o world_n that_o he_o give_v his_o only_a beget_v son_n and_o it_o please_v the_o father_n to_o break_v his_o son_n and_o to_o power_n out_o his_o blood_n here_o be_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o of_o jesus_n christ_n oh_o what_o a_o powerful_a mighty_a drawing_z efficacious_a meditation_n shall_v this_o be_v unto_o we_o med._n 9_o those_o that_o be_v believer_n they_o shall_v be_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o fear_n that_o ever_o a_o believer_n shall_v quite_o fall_v off_o from_o god_n and_o die_v in_o his_o sin_n why_o because_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n be_v give_v to_o he_o for_o his_o spiritual_a nourishment_n though_o a_o believer_n be_v never_o so_o weak_a yet_o see_v god_n have_v appoint_v the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o his_o son_n for_o he_o to_o feed_v upon_o and_o to_o drink_v in_o a_o spiritual_a way_n sure_o then_o the_o weak_a in_o the_o world_n will_v be_v strengthen_v to_o go_v through_o all_o the_o hazard_n and_o danger_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n it_o be_v this_o that_o strengthen_v believer_n to_o encounter_v with_o all_o kind_n of_o danger_n it_o be_v this_o that_o preserve_v the_o weak_a grace_n in_o a_o believer_n namely_o the_o spiritual_a nourishment_n that_o god_n the_o father_n have_v appoint_v to_o they_o even_o the_o feed_n upon_o the_o body_n and_o drink_v the_o very_a blood_n of_o his_o son_n this_o be_v meat_n indeed_o and_o drink_v indeed_o that_o will_v nourish_v to_o eternal_a life_n med._n 10._o the_o last_o meditation_n be_v this_o when_o you_o come_v to_o this_o see_v the_o bread_n break_v and_o the_o wine_n pour_v out_o you_o have_v a_o occasion_n to_o meditate_v of_o the_o whole_a new_a covenant_n the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o god_n have_v make_v with_o sinner_n for_o so_o the_o word_n of_o institution_n be_v this_o be_v the_o cup_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n the_o new_a testament_n which_o be_v all_o one_o with_o the_o new_a covenant_n only_o different_a in_o this_o particular_a it_o contain_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n but_o call_v testament_n in_o this_o regard_n to_o show_v that_o the_o lord_n do_v do_v all_o in_o the_o new_a covenant_n that_o be_v he_o do_v not_o only_o promise_v such_o and_o such_o mercy_n upon_o condition_n of_o our_o believe_a and_o repent_v but_o he_o do_v work_n believe_v and_o repent_v and_o work_v grace_n and_o therefore_o the_o same_o thing_n that_o be_v sometime_o call_v a_o covenant_n be_v call_v a_o testament_n that_o be_v the_o will_n of_o god_n wherein_o the_o lord_n do_v bequeath_v his_o rich_a legacy_n to_o his_o child_n to_o those_o that_o shall_v be_v eternal_o save_v so_o that_o all_o the_o good_a thing_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n they_o be_v bequeath_v by_o way_n of_o testament_n as_o well_o as_o covenant_n and_o this_o be_v a_o mighty_a comfortable_a meditation_n to_o the_o saint_n for_o indeed_o when_o they_o look_v upon_o the_o way_n of_o the_o gospel_n as_o in_o a_o way_n of_o covenant_n why_o then_o they_o think_v thus_o this_o require_v somewhat_o of_o our_o part_n to_o be_v do_v and_o indeed_o god_n will_v
grate_n oh_o the_o ash_n dirt_n and_o filth_n that_o there_o be_v in_o our_o service_n when_o we_o come_v to_o offer_v and_o tender_v they_o up_o to_o god_n so_o that_o we_o have_v cause_n i_o say_v to_o be_v humble_v for_o holy_a offering_n there_o be_v many_o godly_a people_n that_o through_o god_n mercy_n be_v able_a to_o keep_v from_o gross_a sin_n they_o do_v not_o find_v it_o any_o great_a matter_n to_o keep_v from_o company_n swear_v drink_v uncleanness_n lie_v or_o wrong_v of_o other_o and_o such_o kind_n of_o sin_n as_o those_o be_v so_o that_o they_o see_v not_o such_o need_n of_o humiliation_n in_o this_o regard_n unless_o it_o be_v for_o that_o their_o nature_n be_v as_o corrupt_a as_o any_o though_o they_o break_v not_o forth_o into_o those_o actual_a gross_a sin_n but_o the_o main_a work_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a it_o be_v to_o be_v humble_v for_o their_o thought_n for_o the_o mispending_a of_o time_n and_o for_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n those_o be_v the_o main_a thing_n that_o be_v the_o subject_n of_o the_o humiliation_n of_o the_o saint_n beside_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n and_o death_n that_o they_o carry_v about_o with_o they_o and_o it_o will_v be_v a_o good_a sign_n that_o thy_o heart_n have_v some_o tenderness_n in_o it_o when_o thou_o make_v these_o to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o thy_o humiliation_n carnal_a people_n be_v little_o trouble_v for_o these_o if_o they_o fall_v into_o such_o sin_n as_o that_o their_o conscience_n do_v fly_v in_o their_o face_n than_o they_o be_v trouble_v and_o humble_v but_o for_o such_o thing_n as_o these_o be_v they_o be_v seldom_o humble_v to_o be_v humble_v for_o thy_o holy_a offering_n be_v a_o good_a sign_n of_o a_o gracious_a heart_n we_o read_v of_o cherubim_n that_o they_o have_v six_o wing_n and_o with_o two_o of_o their_o wing_n the_o text_n say_v they_o cover_v their_o face_n so_o my_o brethren_n we_o have_v need_n have_v wing_n as_o it_o be_v to_o cover_v our_o best_a duty_n they_o have_v wing_n and_o with_o two_o they_o cover_v their_o leg_n and_o with_o two_o their_o face_n we_o have_v need_v not_o only_o of_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o low_a part_n &_o mean_a duty_n but_o a_o cover_n for_o our_o holy_a duty_n to_o cover_v our_o face_n our_o best_a duty_n of_o all_o the_o most_o heavenly_a duty_n we_o perform_v have_v need_n be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n in_o levit._n 16._o 16._o we_o read_v of_o their_o holy_a thing_n that_o there_o be_v need_n of_o purge_v they_o by_o blood_n and_o so_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o our_o holy_a duty_n let_v we_o be_v humble_v for_o our_o best_a performance_n that_o ever_o we_o perform_v in_o our_o life_n the_o best_a have_v need_n be_v so_o but_o then_o as_o for_o other_o that_o have_v make_v little_a or_o no_o conscience_n of_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n how_o have_v they_o need_v be_v humble_v thou_o have_v something_o more_o to_o repent_v of_o than_o thou_o think_v of_o for_o the_o truth_n be_v those_o that_o have_v not_o make_v conscience_n of_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n in_o holy_a duty_n they_o never_o in_o all_o their_o life_n do_v any_o service_n for_o the_o honour_n of_o god_n thou_o have_v live_v perhaps_o thirty_o or_o forty_o it_o may_v be_v sixty_o year_n or_o more_o and_o do_v never_o yet_o honour_n god_n in_o any_o one_o thing_n that_o ever_o thou_o do_v in_o all_o thy_o life_n you_o will_v say_v god_n forbid_v have_v not_o i_o pray_v and_o hear_v the_o word_n much_o and_o receive_v the_o communion_n often_o and_o yet_o have_v i_o never_o honour_v god_n if_o thou_o have_v not_o be_v acquaint_v with_o this_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n in_o sanctify_v his_o name_n in_o these_o thing_n this_o be_v say_v from_o of_o sanctify_v the_o name_n of_o god_n in_o holy_a duty_n all_o the_o time_n thou_o have_v spend_v be_v lose_v and_o yet_o further_o you_o that_o have_v be_v false_a in_o the_o perform_n of_o duty_n and_o hypocrite_n not_o only_o all_o your_o pain_n and_o labour_n be_v quite_o lose_v for_o if_o that_o be_v so_o it_o may_v be_v well_o with_o you_o but_o you_o have_v aggravate_v your_o sin_n by_o your_o holy_a duty_n those_o duty_n that_o other_o have_v enjoy_v communion_n with_o god_n in_o and_o further_v their_o eternal_a life_n by_o thou_o have_v aggravate_v thy_o sin_n by_o they_o yet_o it_o be_v thy_o duty_n to_o do_v they_o but_o i_o say_v by_o not_o sanctify_v of_o god_n name_n thou_o have_v aggravate_v thy_o sin_n so_o much_o the_o more_o as_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a they_o work_v out_o their_o salvation_n even_o in_o their_o natural_a action_n they_o sanctify_v god_n name_n in_o eat_v and_o drink_v and_o follow_v their_o business_n they_o perform_v those_o action_n in_o such_o a_o holy_a manner_n as_o they_o honour_v god_n in_o they_o and_o further_o their_o eternal_a peace_n but_o as_o they_o in_o their_o natural_a and_o civil_a action_n work_v out_o their_o the_o covenant_n that_o god_n call_v i_o to_o now_o know_v all_o man_n and_o woman_n that_o be_v save_v they_o be_v save_v by_o the_o virtue_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o there_o god_n on_o his_o part_n promise_n and_o make_v a_o cavenant_n that_o he_o will_v bestow_v his_o son_n life_n and_o salvation_n through_o he_o and_o thou_o must_v likewise_o come_v in_o on_o thy_o part_n and_o believe_v on_o his_o son_n and_o repent_v which_o be_v the_o tenor_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o every_o time_n thou_o come_v to_o receive_v this_o sacrament_n thou_o come_v to_o renew_v this_o
