Christ shews himself to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias J John Ch. 21 V. 1 AFter these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias and on this wise shewed he himself John V. 2 There were together Simon Peter and Thomas called Didymus and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee and the sonnes of Zebedee and two other of his disciples Simon Peter faith unto them I go a fishing John Ch. 21 V. 3 They say unto him We also go with thee They went forth and entred into a ship immediately and that night they caught nothing John V. 4 But when the morning was now come Jesus stood on the shore but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus Then Jesus saith unto them Children John V. 5 have ye any meat They answered him No. John V. 6 And he said unto them Cast the net on the right side of the ship and ye shall finde They cast therefore and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes John V. 7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord he girt his fishers coat unto him for he was naked and did cast himself into the sea John V. 8 And the other disciples came in a little ship for they were not farre from land but as it were two hundred cubits dragging the net with fishes John V. 9 Assoon then as they were come to land they saw a fire of coals there and fish laid thereon and bread John V. 10 Jesus saith unto them Bring of the fish which ye have now caught Simon Peter went up John V. 11 and drew the net to land full of great fishes an hundred and fiftie and three and for all there were so many yet was not the net

XXVIII The discourse between Christ and Nicodemus J John Ch. 3 V. 1 THere was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus a ruler of the Jews John V. 2 The same came to Jesus by night and said unto him Rabbi we know that thou art a teacher come from God for no man can do these miracles that thou doest except God be with him John V. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him Verily verily I say unto thee Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdome of God Nicodemus saith unto him John V. 4 How can a man be born when he is old can he enter the second time into his mothers wombe and be born Jesus answered John V. 5 Verily verily I say unto thee Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdome of God That which is born of the flesh is flesh John V. 6 and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit John Ch. 3 V. 7 Marvell not that I said unto thee Ye must be born again John V. 8 The winde bloweth where it listeth and thou hearest the sound thereof but canst not tell whence it cometh and whither it goeth so is every one that is born of the Spirit John V. 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him How can these things be John V. 10 Jesus answered and said unto him Art thou a master of Israel and knowest not these things John V. 11 Verily verily I say unto thee We speak that we do know and testifie that we have seen and ye receive not our witnesse If I have told you earthly things John V. 12 and ye beleeve not how shall ye beleeve if I tell you of heavenly things John V. 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven but he that came down from heaven even the Sonne of man which is in heaven John V. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wildernesse even so must the Sonne of man be lifted up John V. 15 That whosoever beleeveth in him should not perish but have everlasting life For God so loved the world John V. 16 that he gave his onely-begotten Sonne that whosoever beleeveth in him should not perish but have everlasting life * John Ch. 12 V. 17 47 For God sent not his Sonne into the world to condemne the world but that the world through him might be saved John V. 18 He that beleeveth on him is not condemned but he that beleeveth not is condemned alreadie because he hath not beleeved in the name of the onely-begotten Sonne of God John V. 19 And this is the condemnation * John Ch. 1 V. 4 that light is come into the world and men loved darknesse rather then light because their deeds were evil For every one that doth evil John V. 20 hateth the light neither cometh to the light lest his deeds should be reproved But he that doth truth John V. 21 cometh to the light that his deeds may be made manifest that they are wrought in God CHAP. passeover which was in the second yeare of Christs ministerie A diseased man is cured at the pool of Bethesda J John Ch. 5 V. 1 AFter this there was a feast of the Jews and Jesus went up to Jerusalem John V. 2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda having five porches John V. 3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk of blinde halt withered waiting for the moving of the water John V. 4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool and troubled the water whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had John Ch. 5 V. 5 And a certain man was there which had an infirmitie thirtie and eight yeares When Jesus saw him lie John V. 6 and knew that he had been now a long time in that case he saith unto him Wilt thou be made whole John V. 7 The impotent man answered him Sir I have no man when the water is troubled to put me into the pool but while I am coming another steppeth down before me Jesus saith unto him Rise John V. 8 take up thy bed and walk John V. 9 And immediately the man was made whole and took up his bed and walked and on the same day was the sabbath The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured John V. 10 It is the sabbath-day it is not lawfull for thee to carrie thy bed He answered them John V. 11 He that made me whole the same said unto me Take up thy bed and walk Then asked they him John V. 12 What man is that which said unto thee Take up thy bed and walk And he that was healed John V. 13 wist not who it was for Jesus had conveyed himself away a multitude being in that place John V. 14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple and said unto him Behold thou art made whole sinne no more lest a worse thing come unto thee The man departed John V. 15 and told the Jews that it was Jesus which had made him whole CHAP. LIIII The widows sonne of Naim raised to life L Luke Ch. 7 V. 11 ANd it came to passe the day after that he went into a citie called Naim and many of his disciples went with him and much people Now when he came neigh to the gate of the citie Luke V. 12 behold there was a dead man carried out the onely sonne of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the citie was with her Luke V. 13 And when the Lord saw her he had compassion on her and said unto her Weep not Luke V. 14 And he came and touched the biere and they that bare him stood still and he said Young man I say unto thee Arise And he that was dead sat up Luke V. 15 and began to speak and he delivered him to his mother And there came a fear on all Luke V. 16 and they glorified God saying That a great prophet is risen up among us and that God hath visited his people And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judea Luke V. 17 and throughout all the region round about CHAP. LV. Messengers are sent from John Baptist out of prison to Christ L Luke V. 18 ANd the disciples of John shewed him all these things

LXXIX Christ disputes with the Pharisees about the traditions of the elders J John Ch. 7 V. 1 AFter these things Jesus walked in Galilee for he would not walk in Jurie because the Jews sought to kill him Mr. Mark Ch. 7 V. 1 Then came together unto M Matth. Ch. 15 V. 1 Jesus Mr. Mark Ch. 7 V. 1 the Pharisees and certain of the Scribes Mark V. 2 which came from Jerusaiem And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled that is to say with unwashen hands they found fault Mark V. 3 For the Pharisees and all the Jews except they wash their hands oft eat not holding the tradition of the elders Mark V. 4 And when they come from the market except they wash they eat not And many other things there be which they have received to hold as the washing of cups and pots Mark V. 5 brasen vessels and of tables Then the Pharisees and Scribes asked him M Matth. V. 2 saying Mr. Mark V. 5 Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders M Matth. V. 2 why do thy disciples transgresse the tradition of the elders for they wash not their hands when they eat bread Mr. Mark V. 5 but eat bread with unwashen hands M Matth. V. 3 But he answered and said unto them Why do you also transgresse the commandment of
but the Sonne abideth ever John V. 36 If the Sonne therefore shall make you free ye shall be free indeed John V. 37 I know that ye are Abrahams seed but ye seek to kill me because my word hath no place in you John V. 38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father and ye do that which ye have seen with your father They answered and said unto him John V. 39 Abraham is our father Jesus saith unto them If ye were Abrahams children ye would do the works of Abraham But now ye seek to kill me John V. 40 a man that hath told you the truth which I have heard of God this did not Abraham John V. 41 Ye do the deeds of your father Then said they to him We be not born of fornication we have one Father even God Jesus said unto them John V. 42 If God were your Father ye would love me for I proceeded forth and came from God neither came I of my self but he sent me John V. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech even because ye cannot heare my word Ye are of your father the devil John V. 44 and the lusts of your father ye will do he was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth because there is no truth in him When he speaketh a lie he speaketh of his own for he is a liar and the father of it And because I tell you the truth John Ch. 8 V. 45 ye beleeve me not John V. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sinne and if I say the truth why do ye not beleeve me He that is of God John V. 47 heareth Gods words ye therefore heare them not because ye are not of God Then answered the Jews John V. 48 and said unto him Say we not well that thou art a Samaritane and hast a devil Jesus answered John V. 49 I have not a devil but I honour my Father and ye do dishonour me And I seek not mine own glorie John V. 50 there is one that seeketh and judgeth John V. 51 Verily verily I say unto you If a man keep my saying he he shall never see death John V. 52 Then said the Jews unto him Now we know that thou hast a devil Abraham is dead and the prophets thou sayest If a man keep my saying he shall never taste of death Art thou greater then our father Abraham John V. 53 which is dead and the prophets are dead whom makest thou thy self Jesus answered John V. 54 If I honour my self my honour is nothing it is my Father that honoureth me of whom ye say that he is your God Yet ye have not known him John V. 55 but I know him and if I should say I know him not I shall be a liar like unto you but I know him and keep his saying John V. 56 Your father Abraham rejoyced to see my day and he saw it and was glad John V. 57 Then said the Jews unto him Thou art not yet fiftie yeares old and hast thou seen Abraham John V. 58 Jesus said unto them Verily verily I say unto you Before Abraham was I am John V. 59 Then took they up stons to cast at him but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple going through the midst of them and so passed by CHAP. CIIII. The seventie disciples return Christs spirituall joy and the beatitude of the disciples L Luke Ch. 10 V. 17 ANd the seventie returned again with joy saying Lord even the devils are subject unto us through thy name Luke V. 18 And he said unto them I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven Luke V. 19 Behold I give unto you power to tread on scrpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemie and nothing shall by any means hurt you Notwithstanding in this rejoyce not Luke V. 20 that the spirits are subject unto you but rather rejoyce because your names are written in heaven * Matth. Ch. 11 V. 25 Luke V. 21 In that houre Jesus rejoyced in spirit said I thank thee O Father Lord of heaven and earth that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent and hast revealed them unto babes even so Father for so it seemed good in thy sight Luke V. 22 All things are delivered to me of my Father and no man knoweth who the Sonne is but the Father and who the Father is but the Sonne and he to whom the Sonne will reveal him Luke V. 23 And he turned him unto his disciples and said privately Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see * Matth. Ch. 13 V. 17 For I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see Luke V. 24 and have not seen them and to heare those things which ye heare and have not heard them CHAP. CV Christs dispute with a lawyer The parable of the Samaritane L Luke Ch. 10 V. 25 ANd * Matth. Ch. 22 V. 35 behold a certain lawyer stood up and tempted him saying Master what shall I do to inherit eternall life He said unto him Luke V. 26 What is written in the Law how readest thou And he answering said Luke Ch. 10 V. 27 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy strength and with all thy minde and thy neighbour as thy self Luke V. 28 And he said unto him Thou hast answered right this do and thou shalt live But he willing to justifie himself Luke V. 29 said unto Jesus And who is my neighbour Luke V. 30 And Jesus answering said A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among theeves which stripped him of his raiment and wounded him and departed leaving him half dead And by chance there came down a certain priest that way and when he saw him Luke V. 31 he passed by on the other side And likewise a Levite Luke V. 32 when he was at the place came and looked on him and passed by on the other side But a certain Samaritane Luke V. 33 as he journeyed came where he was and when he saw him he had compassion on him And went to him and bound up his wounds Luke V. 34 pouring in oyl and wine and set him on his own beast and brought him to an inne and took care of him And on the morrow when he departed Luke V. 35 he took out two pence and gave them to the host and said unto him Take care of him and whatsoever thou spendest more when I come again I will repay thee Which now of these three Luke V. 36 thinkest thou was neighbour unto him that fell among the theeves And he said Luke V. 37 He that shewed mercie on
eyes of one that was born blind John V. 33 If this man were not of God he could do nothing John V. 34 They answered and said unto him Thou wast altogether born in sinnes and dost thou teach us And they cast him out John V. 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out and when he had found him he said unto him Dost thou beleeve on the Sonne of God He answered and said Who is he Lord John V. 36 that I might beleeve on him And Jesus said unto him John V. 37 Thou hast both seen him and it is he that talketh with thee And he said Lord I beleeve John V. 38 and he worshipped him CHAP. CXIIII Christ preacheth himself to be the doore the good shepherd L John V. 39 ANd Jesus said For judgement I am come into this world that they which see not might see and that they which see might be made blinde John v. 40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words and said unto him Are we blinde also Jesus said unto them John V. 41 If ye were blinde ye should have no sinne but now ye say We see therefore your sinne remaineth Verily verily I say unto you John Ch. 10 V. 1 He that entreth not by the doore into the sheepfold but climbeth up some other way the same is a thief and a robber But he that entreth in by the doore John V. 2 is the shepherd of the sheep John V. 3 To him the porter openeth and the sheep heare his voice and he calleth his own sheep by name and leadeth them out And when he putteth forth his own sheep John V. 4 he goeth before them and the sheep follow him for they know his voice John V. 5 And a stranger will they not follow but will flee from him for they know not the voice of strangers John V. 6 This parable spake Jesus unto them but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them Then said Jesus unto them again John V. 7 Verily verily I say unto you I am the doore of the sheep John V. 8 All that ever came before me are theeves and robbers but the sheep did not heare them I am the doore John V. 9 by me if any man enter in he shall be saved and shall go in and out and finde pasture John V. 10 The thief cometh not but for to steal and to kill and to destroy I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly John V. 11 I am the good shepherd the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep John V. 12 But he that is an hireling and not the shepherd whose own the sheep are not seeth the wolf coming and leaveth the sheep and fleeth and the wolf catcheth them and scattereth the sheep The hireling fleeth John V. 13 because he is an hireling and careth not for the sheep John V. 14 I am the good shepherd and know my sheep and am known of mine As the Father knoweth me John V. 15 even so know I the Father and I lay down my life for the sheep And other sheep I have John V. 16 which are not of this fold them also I must bring and they shall heare my voice and there shall be one fold and one shepherd John V. 17 Therefore doth my Father love me because I lay down my life that I might take it again No man taketh it from me John Ch. 10 V. 18 that I might take it again No man taketh it from me but I lay it down of my self I have power to lay it down and I have power to take it again This commandment have I received of my Father John V. 19 There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings And many of them said John V. 20 He hath a devil and is mad why heare ye him Others said John V. 21 These are not the words of him that hath a devil can a devil open the eyes of the blinde CHAP. CXV The feast of the dedication at Jerusalem in which Christ expressely professed himself to be the Messias J John V. 22 ANd it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication and it was winter John V. 23 And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomons porch John V. 24 Then came the Jews round about him and said unto him How long dost thou make us to doubt If thou be the Christ tell us plainly John V. 25 Jesus answered them I told you and ye beleeved not the works that I do in my Fathers name they bear witnesse of me But ye beleeve not John V. 26 because ye are not of my sheep as I said unto you John V. 27 My sheep heare my voice and I know them and they follow me And I give unto them eternall life John V. 28 and they shall never perish neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand John V. 29 My Father which gave them me is greater then all and no man is able to pluck them out of my Fathers hand John V. 30 I and my Father are one John V. 31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him Jesus answered them John V. 32 Many good works have I shewed you from my Father for which of those works do ye stone me John V. 33 The Jews answered him saying For a good work we stone thee not but for blasphemy and because that thou being a man makest thy self God John Ch. 10 V. 34 Jesus answered them Is it not written in your law I said Ye are gods If he called them gods John V. 35 unto whom the word of God came and the scripture cannot be broken Say ye of him John V. 36 whom the Father hath sanctified and sent into the world Thou blasphemest because I said I am the Sonne of God If I do not the works of my Father John V. 37 beleeve me not But if I do John V. 38 though ye beleeve not me beleeve the works that ye may know and beleeve that the Father is in me and I in him Therefore they sought again to take him John V. 39 but he escaped out of their hand THE FIFTH BOOK THE HISTORIE OF THE FOURTH YEARE OF CHRISTS PUBLICK MINISTERIE Together with his Passion and Resurrection CHAP. CXVI Christ goes from Jerusalem beyond Jordan where John had baptized J John Ch. 10 V. 40 ANd he went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized and there he abode John V. 41 And many resorted unto him and said John did no miracle but all things that John spake of this man were true John V. 42 And many beleeved on him there CHAP. CXVII Christ teacheth that the way to heaven is strait
