which_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o our_o hope_n and_o comfort_n namely_o the_o offering_n of_o christ_n unto_o we_o that_o as_o he_o do_v offer_v himself_o a_o sacrifice_n to_o his_o father_n so_o that_o now_o to_o come_v to_o that_o great_a matter_n without_o which_o christ_n profit_v we_o nothing_o which_o be_v faith_n the_o well_o be_v deep_a and_o this_o be_v the_o bucket_n with_o which_o we_o must_v draw_v this_o be_v the_o hand_n by_o which_o we_o must_v put_v on_o christ_n as_o many_o as_o be_v baptize_v put_v on_o christ_n thus_o must_v we_o be_v make_v ready_a we_o must_v estate_n of_o another_o but_o now_o there_o be_v another_o love_n of_o complacency_n which_o be_v a_o likeness_n between_o the_o quality_n and_o manner_n of_o person_n for_o like_o will_n to_o like_v and_o this_o love_n god_n never_o have_v but_o to_o his_o saint_n after_o conversion_n when_o they_o have_v his_o image_n instamp_v in_o they_o and_o be_v reform_v in_o their_o understanding_n and_o will_n resemble_v he_o in_o both_o then_o and_o not_o till_o then_o bear_v he_o this_o love_n towards_o they_o before_o he_o love_v they_o with_o the_o love_n of_o pity_n and_o so_o god_n love_v the_o world_n that_o be_v with_o the_o love_n of_o commiseration_n that_o he_o send_v his_o only_a son_n that_o whosoever_o believe_v in_o he_o may_v not_o perish_v but_o have_v everlasting_a life_n now_o we_o come_v to_o the_o point_n of_o acceptation_n the_o word_n be_v free_a and_o it_o require_v nothing_o but_o what_o may_v consist_v with_o the_o free_a gift_n that_o may_v be_v give_v although_o here_o be_v something_o that_o a_o man_n may_v startle_v at_o object_n be_v there_o not_o require_v a_o condition_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o condition_n of_o obedience_n sol._n neither_o of_o these_o according_a to_o our_o common_a understanding_n do_v hinder_v the_o fullness_n and_o freedom_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n 1._o not_o faith_n because_o faith_n be_v such_o a_o condition_n as_o require_v only_o a_o empty_a hand_n to_o receive_v a_o gift_n free_o give_v now_o do_v that_o hinder_v the_o freeness_n of_o the_o gift_n to_o say_v you_o must_v take_v it_o why_o this_o be_v requisite_a to_o the_o free_a gift_n that_o can_v be_v give_v if_o a_o man_n will_v give_v something_o to_o a_o beggar_n if_o he_o will_v not_o reach_v out_o his_o hand_n and_o take_v it_o let_v he_o go_v without_o it_o it_o be_v a_o free_a gift_n still_o so_o that_o the_o condition_n of_o faith_n require_v nothing_o but_o a_o empty_a hand_n to_o receive_v christ._n 2._o obedience_n hinder_v it_o not_o i_o be_o require_v may_v some_o say_v to_o be_v a_o new_a man_n a_o new_a creature_n to_o lead_v a_o new_a life_n i_o must_v alter_v my_o course_n and_o be_v not_o this_o a_o great_a clog_n and_o burden_n and_o do_v you_o account_v this_o free_a when_o i_o must_v crucify_v lust_n mortify_v passion_n etc._n etc._n be_v this_o free_a when_o a_o man_n must_v renounce_v his_o own_o will_n yes_o it_o be_v as_o free_a as_o free_v may_v be_v as_o i_o show_v you_o the_o last_o time_n the_o very_a touch_v and_o accept_v of_o christ_n imply_v a_o abnegation_n of_o former_a sinfulness_n and_o a_o go_v off_o from_o other_o course_n that_o be_v contrary_a to_o he_o if_o the_o king_n give_v a_o pardon_n to_o a_o notorious_a rebel_n for_o treason_n so_o that_o now_o he_o must_v live_v hereafter_o observe_v for_o the_o first_o 1._o the_o object_n of_o it_o in_o who_o you_o trust_v we_o speak_v of_o faith_n now_o as_o it_o justify_v as_o it_o apprehend_v christ_n for_o its_o object_n the_o point_n and_o clear_v the_o question_n whether_o faith_n in_o itself_o as_o a_o virtue_n do_v justify_v or_o in_o respect_n of_o its_o object_n sure_o it_o be_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o object_n you_o that_o have_v skill_n in_o philosophy_n know_v that_o heat_n if_o consider_v as_o a_o quality_n its_o effect_n be_v not_o so_o great_a but_o consider_v as_o a_o instrument_n it_o transcend_v the_o sphere_n of_o its_o own_o activity_n it_o do_v wonder_n for_o its_o the_o principle_n of_o generation_n and_o many_o other_o strange_a effect_n so_o here_o take_v faith_n as_o a_o virtue_n and_o it_o be_v far_o short_a of_o love_n but_o consider_v it_o as_o a_o instrument_n whereby_o christ_n be_v apply_v and_o it_o transcend_v it_o work_v wonder_n beyond_o its_o proper_a sphere_n for_o the_o mean_a thing_n it_o lay_v hold_v on_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n he_o that_o have_v the_o son_n have_v life_n etc._n etc._n some_o will_v think_v this_o a_o hard_a kind_n of_o speech_n when_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n we_o be_v justify_v by_o christ_n apprehend_v by_o faith_n and_o yet_o that_o place_n be_v clear_a to_o be_v justify_v by_o his_o blood_n and_o faith_n in_o his_o blood_n become_v one_o faith_n as_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v say_v i_o be_v cure_v by_o go_v to_o the_o bath_n so_o faith_n come_v unto_o i_o faith_n be_v the_o leg_n a_o man_n be_v not_o say_v proper_o to_o be_v cure_v by_o go_v to_o the_o bath_n nor_o justify_v by_o come_v to_o christ_n by_o the_o leg_n of_o faith_n but_o the_o apply_v of_o the_o bath_n the_o come_n to_o christ_n and_o apply_v his_o virtue_n to_o make_v he_o the_o object_n of_o my_o faith_n this_o be_v the_o way_n to_o be_v justify_v as_o it_o be_v not_o the_o make_v and_o prepare_v of_o a_o plaster_n that_o cure_v but_o the_o apply_v it_o so_o that_o this_o conclude_v this_o point_n that_o the_o true_a object_n of_o faith_n be_v christ_n crucify_v and_o god_n the_o father_n in_o and_o by_o he_o here_o of_o truth_n the_o gospel_n of_o your_o salvation_n now_o the_o word_n be_v present_v under_o a_o double_a respect_n 1._o it_o be_v present_v sub_fw-la ratione_fw-la very_fw-la after_o you_o have_v
