commit_v to_o their_o care_n 6._o be_v mindful_a of_o the_o profession_n thou_o have_v make_v and_o have_v always_o before_o the_o eye_n of_o thy_o soul_n the_o remembrance_n of_o thy_o saviour_n crucify_v thou_o have_v good_a cause_n to_o be_v ashamed_a look_v upon_o the_o life_n of_o jesus_n christ_n see_v thou_o have_v as_o yet_o no_o more_o endeavour_v to_o conform_v thyself_o unto_o he_o though_o thou_o have_v walk_v a_o long_a time_n in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n a_o religious_a person_n that_o exercise_v himself_o serious_o and_o devout_o in_o the_o most_o holy_a life_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n shall_v there_o abundant_o find_v whatsoever_o be_v necessary_a and_o profitable_a for_o he_o neither_o shall_v he_o need_v to_o seek_v any_o better_a thing_n out_o of_o jesus_n o_o if_o jesus_n crucify_v will_v come_v into_o our_o heart_n how_o quick_o and_o full_o shall_v we_o be_v instruct_v in_o all_o truth_n 7._o a_o fervent_a religious_a person_n take_v and_o bear_v all_o well_o that_o be_v command_v he_o but_o he_o that_o be_v negligent_a and_o cold_a have_v tribulation_n upon_o tribulation_n and_o on_o all_o side_n be_v afflict_v for_o he_o be_v void_a of_o inward_a consolation_n and_o be_v forbid_v to_o seek_v eternal_a comfort_n a_o religious_a person_n that_o live_v not_o according_a to_o discipline_n lie_v open_a to_o great_a mischief_n to_o the_o ruin_n of_o his_o soul._n he_o that_o seek_v liberty_n and_o ease_n shall_v ever_o live_v in_o disquiet_n for_o one_o thing_n or_o other_o will_v displease_v he_o 8._o o_o that_o we_o have_v nothing_o elso_n to_o do_v but_o always_o with_o our_o mouth_n and_o whole_a heart_n to_o praise_v our_o lord_n god_n o_o that_o thou_o may_v never_o have_v need_n to_o eat_v nor_o drink_v nor_o sleep_n but_o may_v always_o praise_v god_n and_o only_o employ_v thyself_o in_o spiritual_a exercise_n thou_o shall_v then_o be_v much_o more_o happy_a than_o now_o thou_o be_v when_o for_o so_o many_o necessity_n thou_o be_v constrain_v to_o serve_v thy_o body_n will_v god_n these_o necessity_n be_v not_o at_o all_o but_o only_o the_o spiritual_a refection_n of_o the_o soul_n which_o alas_o we_o taste_v of_o too_o seldom_o 9_o when_o a_o man_n come_v to_o that_o estate_n rhat_o he_o seek_v not_o his_o comfort_n from_o any_o creature_n then_o do_v he_o begin_v perfect_o to_o relish_v god_n then_o shall_v he_o be_v content_v with_o whatsoever_o do_v befall_v he_o in_o this_o world_n then_o shall_v he_o neither_o rejoice_v in_o great_a matter_n nor_o be_v sorrowful_a for_o small_a forsake_v by_o his_o acquaintance_n and_o friend_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o slander_n christ_n will_v suffer_v and_o be_v despise_v and_o dare_v thou_o complain_v of_o any_o christ_n have_v adversary_n and_o backbiter_n and_o will_v thou_o have_v all_o man_n thy_o friend_n and_o benefactor_n for_o what_o shall_v thy_o patience_n be_v crown_v if_o no_o adversity_n happen_v unto_o thou_o if_o thou_o man_n be_v often_o deceive_v in_o their_o judge_n the_o lover_n of_o the_o world_n be_v also_o deceive_v in_o love_v only_o visible_a thing_n what_o be_v a_o man_n the_o better_a for_o that_o he_o be_v esteem_v great_a by_o man_n the_o deceitful_a in_o exalt_v the_o deceitful_a the_o vain_a man_n in_o extol_v the_o vain_a the_o blind_a in_o commend_v the_o blind_a the_o weak_a in_o magnify_v the_o weak_a deceive_v he_o and_o do_v very_o more_o shame_n he_o while_o he_o do_v vain_o praise_v he_o for_o how_o much_o every_o one_o be_v in_o thy_o sight_n so_o much_o he_o be_v and_o no_o more_o chap._n li._n that_o a_o man_n ought_v to_o employ_v himself_o in_o work_n of_o humility_n when_o strength_n be_v want_v for_o high_a employment_n christ._n son_n thou_o be_v not_o able_a always_o to_o continue_v in_o the_o more_o fervent_a desire_n of_o virtue_n nor_o to_o persist_v in_o the_o high_a pitch_n of_o contemplation_n but_o thou_o must_v sometime_o of_o necessity_n by_o reason_n of_o original_a corruption_n descend_v to_o inferior_a thing_n and_o bear_v the_o burden_n of_o this_o corruptible_a life_n though_o against_o thy_o will_n and_o with_o grief_n as_o long_o as_o thou_o carry_v a_o mortal_a body_n thou_o shall_v feel_v trouble_n and_o heaviness_n of_o heart_n thou_o ought_v therefore_o in_o the_o flesh_n oftentimes_o to_o bewail_v the_o burden_n of_o the_o flesh_n for_o that_o thou_o can_v not_o always_o continue_v in_o spiritual_a exercise_n and_o divine_a contemplation_n 2._o it_o be_v then_o expedient_a for_o thou_o to_o fly_v to_o humble_a and_o exterior_a work_n and_o to_o refresh_v thyself_o with_o good_a action_n to_o expect_v with_o a_o firm_a confidence_n my_o come_n and_o heavenly_a visitation_n to_o bear_v patient_o thy_o banishment_n and_o the_o dryness_n of_o thy_o mind_n till_o i_o visit_v thou_o again_o and_o deliver_v thou_o from_o all_o anxiety_n for_o i_o will_v make_v thou_o forget_v thy_o former_a pain_n and_o enjoy_v inward_a quietness_n i_o will_v lay_v open_a before_o thou_o the_o pleasant_a field_n of_o holy_a scripture_n that_o with_o a_o enlarge_a heart_n thou_o may_v begin_v to_o run_v the_o way_n of_o my_o commandment_n and_o thou_o shall_v say_v that_o the_o suffering_n of_o this_o present_a time_n be_v not_o worthy_a of_o the_o glory_n to_o come_v that_o shall_v be_v reveal_v in_o we_o yet_o i_o be_v not_o worthy_a of_o thy_o comfort_n for_o alas_o i_o deserve_v nothing_o but_o to_o be_v scourge_v and_o punish_v in_o that_o i_o have_v grievous_o and_o often_o offend_v thou_o and_o advise_v thou_o not_o to_o inquire_v nor_o dispute_v of_o the_o merit_n of_o the_o saint_n which_o of_o they_o be_v holy_a than_o the_o other_o and_o which_o be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n these_o thing_n oftentimes_o breed_v strife_n and_o unprofitable_a contention_n they_o nourish_v also_o pride_n and_o vain_a glory_n from_o whence_o do_v spring_n envy_v and_o dissension_n whilst_o one_o will_v proud_o prefer_v this_o and_o the_o other_o another_o to_o desire_v to_o know_v and_o search_v out_o such_o thing_n be_v to_o no_o purpose_n nor_o will_v it_o please_v the_o saint_n for_o i_o be_o not_o the_o god_n of_o dissension_n but_o of_o peace_n which_o peace_n consist_v rather_o in_o true_a humility_n than_o in_o self_n exaltation_n 3._o some_o be_v carry_v with_o zeal_n of_o affection_n to_o love_v these_o or_o those_o most_o but_o this_o love_n be_v rather_o humane_a than_o divine_a i_o be_o he_o who_o make_v all_o the_o saint_n and_o have_v give_v they_o grace_n i_o have_v give_v they_o glory_n i_o know_v what_o every_o one_o have_v deserve_v i_o have_v prevent_v they_o with_o the_o blessing_n of_o my_o goodness_n i_o foreknow_v my_o belove_n before_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o world_n i_o choose_v they_o out_o of_o the_o world_n they_o choose_v not_o i_o first_o i_o call_v they_o by_o grace_n i_o draw_v they_o by_o mercy_n i_o lead_v they_o through_o sundry_a temptation_n i_o have_v pour_v into_o they_o glorious_a comfort_n i_o have_v give_v they_o perseverance_n i_o have_v crown_v their_o patience_n 4._o i_o know_v both_o the_o first_o and_o the_o last_o i_o embrace_v all_o with_o inestimable_a love_n i_o be_o to_o be_v praise_v in_o all_o my_o saint_n i_o be_o to_o be_v bless_v above_o all_o thing_n and_o to_o be_v honour_v in_o every_o one_o who_o i_o have_v thus_o glorious_o exalt_v and_o predestinate_v without_o any_o precedent_n merit_v of_o their_o own_o he_o therefore_o that_o contemn_v one_o of_o the_o least_o of_o my_o saint_n honour_v not_o the_o great_a for_o that_o i_o make_v both_o the_o less_o and_o the_o great_a and_o he_o that_o dispraif_v any_o of_o my_o saint_n dispraise_v also_o i_o and_o all_o the_o rest_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n there_o all_o be_v one_o through_o the_o bond_n of_o love_n they_o think_v the_o same_o they_o will_v the_o same_o and_o they_o all_o love_v one_o another_o 5._o but_o yet_o which_o be_v much_o more_o high_a they_o love_v i_o more_o than_o themselves_o and_o be_v draw_v out_o of_o all_o themselves_o or_o any_o merit_n of_o their_o own_o for_o be_v ravish_v above_o self-love_n they_o be_v whole_o carry_v out_o to_o love_v i_o in_o who_o also_o they_o do_v fruitive_o rest_v nothing_o can_v turn_v they_o back_o nothing_o can_v press_v they_o down_o for_o be_v full_a of_o the_o eternal_a truth_n they_o burn_v with_o the_o fire_n of_o unquenchable_a love_n let_v therefore_o carnal_a and_o natural_a man_n who_o can_v affect_v no_o other_o but_o their_o private_a joy_n forbear_v to_o dispute_v of_o the_o state_n of_o saint_n they_o add_v and_o take_v away_o according_a to_o their_o own_o fancy_n not_o as_o it_o please_v the_o eternal_a truth_n 6._o many_o be_v ignorant_a but_o special_o those_o that_o be_v slender_o enlighten_v and_o these_o can_v seldom_o love_v any_o with_o a_o perfect_a spiritual_a love_n they_o be_v as_o yet_o much_o draw_v by_o a_o natural_a affection_n and_o humane_a friendship_n to_o this_o man_n or_o to_o that_o and_o according_a to_o the_o experience_n they_o have_v of_o themselves_o in_o their_o earthly_a affection_n so_o they_o frame_v a_o imagination_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n but_o there_o be_v a_o incomparable_a distance_n between_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o imperfect_a one_o imagine_v in_o their_o conceit_n and_o those_o which_o the_o illuminate_v one_o do_v see_v by_o revelation_n from_o above_o 7._o beware_v therefore_o my_o son_n that_o thou_o treat_v not_o curious_o of_o these_o thing_n which_o exceed_v thy_o knowledge_n but_o rather_o so_o apply_v thy_o endeavour_n that_o thou_o may_v at_o least_o have_v the_o mean_a place_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o if_o any_o one_o do_v know_v which_o of_o the_o saint_n exceed_v other_o in_o sanctity_n or_o be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n what_o will_v this_o knowledge_n avail_v he_o unless_o he_o shall_v thereby_o humble_v himself_o the_o more_o in_o my_o sight_n and_o shall_v rise_v up_o into_o the_o great_a praise_v of_o my_o name_n he_o please_v god_n much_o better_a that_o think_v of_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o the_o smallness_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o how_o far_o off_o he_o be_v from_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o saint_n than_o he_o that_o dispute_v of_o their_o greatness_n or_o littleness_n 8._o they_o be_v well_o and_o right_o well_o content_v if_o man_n can_v content_v themselves_o and_o refrain_v from_o these_o vain_a discourse_n they_o glory_v not_o of_o their_o own_o merit_n for_o they_o ascribe_v no_o good_a unto_o themselves_o but_o attribute_v all_o to_o i_o who_o of_o my_o infinite_a love_n have_v give_v they_o all_o thing_n they_o be_v fill_v with_o so_o great_a love_n of_o the_o divinity_n and_o with_o such_o a_o overflow_a joy_n that_o there_o be_v no_o glory_n nor_o happiness_n that_o be_v or_o can_v be_v want_v unto_o it_o be_v write_v that_o they_o do_v cast_v their_o crown_n before_o god_n and_o fall_v down_o upon_o their_o face_n before_o the_o lamb_n and_o adore_v he_o that_o live_v for_o ever_o and_o ever_o 9_o many_o inquire_v who_o be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n that_o know_v not_o whether_o they_o shall_v ever_o be_v number_v there_o among_o the_o least_o it_o be_v a_o great_a thing_n
