false_a religion_n so_o a_o christianity_n ground_v upon_o the_o belief_n of_o the_o true_a christ_n may_v however_o be_v a_o false_a christianity_n for_o as_o notwithstanding_o a_o belief_n or_o which_o may_v be_v something_o more_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o true_a god_n man_n may_v fall_v into_o idolatry_n see_v rom._n chap._n 1._o ver_fw-la 21_o 22_o 23._o so_o notwithstanding_o the_o belief_n not_o only_o of_o the_o true_a christ_n but_o of_o his_o resurrection_n also_o man_n may_v have_v no_o other_o expectation_n from_o he_o but_o wealth_n power_n and_o grandeur_n in_o this_o world_n see_v act_n ch_n 1._o ver_fw-la 6._o and_o yet_o i_o do_v hardly_o think_v that_o a_o faith_n either_o in_o the_o one_o case_n or_o in_o the_o other_o will_v by_o that_o author_n be_v think_v a_o save_v faith_n and_o if_o it_o be_v not_o than_o it_o will_v appear_v a_o good_a conclusion_n that_o in_o the_o last_o case_n that_o be_v in_o the_o case_n of_o christianity_n something_o more_o be_v necessary_a to_o be_v believe_v in_o order_n to_o our_o salvation_n than_o bare_o that_o jesus_n be_v the_o christ_n but_o as_o i_o say_v before_o this_o by_o the_o bye_n that_o which_o be_v direct_o to_o our_o present_a purpose_n be_v that_o if_o it_o be_v true_a that_o none_o shall_v be_v save_v who_o do_v not_o believe_v in_o jesus_n christ_n the_o saviour_n then_o how_o shall_v we_o account_v for_o the_o future_a condition_n of_o those_o who_o in_o this_o life_n never_o hear_v of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o though_o we_o may_v out_o of_o the_o scripture_n be_v teach_v that_o he_o who_o believe_v shall_v be_v save_v and_o that_o he_o who_o believe_v not_o shall_v be_v damn_v yet_o still_o we_o can_v but_o know_v that_o that_o disbelief_n to_o which_o damnation_n be_v allot_v must_v be_v as_o contrary_a to_o that_o belief_n to_o which_o salvation_n be_v allot_v as_o damnation_n and_o salvation_n be_v to_o each_o other_o now_o because_o that_o belief_n to_o which_o salvation_n be_v allot_v be_v a_o act_n of_o the_o will_n whatever_o the_o school_n teach_v of_o faith_n be_v lodge_v only_o in_o the_o understanding_n therefore_o we_o do_v conclude_v that_o that_o disbelief_n to_o which_o damnation_n be_v allot_v must_v be_v a_o act_n of_o the_o will_v too_o and_o indeed_o since_o damnation_n be_v confess_o the_o reward_n of_o unbelief_n and_o since_o this_o reward_n be_v to_o come_v from_o the_o hand_n of_o such_o justice_n which_o can_v err_v we_o may_v from_o thence_o be_v assure_v that_o the_o unbelief_n to_o which_o it_o be_v allot_v must_v be_v criminal_a and_o we_o be_v moreover_o assure_v that_o nothing_o can_v be_v so_o in_o which_o the_o will_n be_v not_o at_o all_o concern_v now_o because_o it_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o those_o who_o in_o this_o world_n never_o hear_v of_o jesus_n christ_n do_v not_o therefore_o not_o believe_v in_o he_o because_o they_o will_v not_o but_o only_o because_o they_o can_v i_o say_v for_o that_o reason_n it_o will_v be_v unjust_a to_o asign_v that_o damnation_n to_o their_o unbelief_n that_o be_v by_o they_o unavoidable_a which_o be_v by_o the_o scripture_n assign_v only_o to_o that_o unbelief_n which_o be_v therefore_o criminal_a because_o it_o be_v voluntary_a though_o therefore_o damnation_n be_v by_o the_o scripture_n pronounce_v against_o that_o unbelief_n which_o refuse_v the_o saviour_n make_v know_v and_o offer_v to_o man_n yet_o we_o can_v from_o thence_o conclude_v that_o it_o shall_v be_v the_o portion_n of_o that_o unbelief_n which_o be_v only_o a_o consequence_n of_o a_o unavoidable_a ignorance_n of_o the_o same_o saviour_n and_o as_o we_o can_v from_o the_o scripture_n conclude_v that_o they_o who_o never_o hear_v of_o the_o saviour_n shall_v be_v damn_v for_o their_o unbelief_n so_o neither_o can_v we_o from_o they_o conclude_v that_o they_o shall_v be_v save_v notwithstanding_o their_o unbelief_n for_o if_o a_o faith_n in_o jesus_n christ_n be_v according_a to_o the_o scripture_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n it_o will_v from_o thence_o follow_v that_o they_o who_o want_v that_o faith_n must_v go_v without_o that_o salvation_n to_o which_o it_o be_v necessary_a now_o it_o may_v be_v presume_v that_o far_o the_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n if_o not_o in_o all_o yet_o in_o most_o age_n and_o that_o therefore_o much_o the_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n in_o general_n never_o have_v the_o saviour_n make_v know_v to_o they_o which_o if_o it_o be_v true_a as_o we_o have_v no_o reason_n to_o doubt_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o than_o it_o will_v follow_v that_o though_o god_n have_v provide_v a_o saviour_n for_o all_o man_n yet_o by_o make_v a_o faith_n in_o that_o saviour_n a_o necessary_a condition_n for_o man_n obrain_v the_o provide_v salvation_n he_o have_v thereby_o exclude_v the_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n from_o such_o salvation_n because_o by_o have_v determine_v the_o time_n before_o appoint_v and_o the_o in_o a_o saviour_n make_v sufficient_a provision_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n yet_o the_o great_a part_n of_o man_n shall_v fall_v short_a of_o such_o salvation_n and_o that_o too_o without_o their_o own_o default_n now_o it_o be_v free_o confess_v that_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n the_o saviour_n lay_v the_o design_n of_o extend_v that_o salvation_n which_o he_o purchase_v as_o wide_a as_o be_v the_o merit_n of_o his_o purchase_n that_o be_v his_o purchase_n be_v sufficient_a for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n and_o he_o give_v such_o direction_n and_o injunction_n for_o the_o propagate_a to_o all_o man_n so_o much_o knowledge_n of_o such_o his_o purchase_n as_o may_v be_v sufficient_a to_o bring_v they_o to_o that_o faith_n which_o may_v entitle_v they_o to_o the_o benefit_n of_o it_o and_o therefore_o we_o find_v that_o he_o command_v his_o apostle_n to_o go_v into_o all_o the_o world_n and_o to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n and_o that_o he_o give_v they_o ability_n to_o obey_v such_o his_o command_n by_o bestow_v on_o they_o and_o many_o of_o those_o who_o shall_v be_v instruct_v by_o they_o the_o gift_n of_o tongue_n and_o the_o power_n of_o work_a miracle_n by_o which_o mean_v there_o be_v provision_n make_v for_o the_o faith_n of_o all_o as_o well_o as_o for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o for_o the_o mean_n as_o well_o as_o for_o the_o end_n but_o yet_o because_o 1._o the_o propagate_a the_o mean_n of_o faith_n that_o be_v because_o the_o propagate_a the_o gospel_n to_o all_o mankind_n be_v leave_v in_o the_o hand_n of_o man_n and_z for_o that_o reason_n be_v not_o likely_a to_o be_v perform_v according_a to_o the_o will_n and_o command_n of_o god_n insomuch_o that_o he_o who_o be_v both_o the_o author_n and_o finisher_n of_o our_o faith_n do_v before_o his_o departure_n out_o of_o this_o world_n make_v it_o a_o question_n whether_o upon_o his_o return_n he_o shall_v find_v faith_n in_o it_o shall_v the_o son_n of_o man_n when_o he_o come_v find_v faith_n upon_o the_o earth_n and_o because_o 2._o as_o it_o be_v likely_a that_o those_o man_n who_o have_v the_o mean_n of_o faith_n and_o salvation_n themselves_o will_v not_o so_o it_o have_v be_v find_v by_o experience_n that_o they_o have_v not_o at_o least_o they_o have_v not_o so_o industrious_o propagate_v such_o mean_n as_o that_o they_o shall_v reach_v to_o all_o other_o and_o because_o 3._o though_o any_o man_n may_v defeat_v the_o counsel_n of_o god_n for_o his_o own_o salvation_n and_o if_o he_o do_v so_o his_o damnation_n will_v not_o only_o be_v just_a but_o necessary_a yet_o it_o be_v not_o agreeable_a to_o the_o equity_n of_o the_o divine_a justice_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v in_o the_o power_n of_o any_o man_n to_o defeat_v the_o counsel_n of_o god_n for_o the_o salvation_n of_o any_o other_o man_n i_o say_v from_o these_o thing_n lay_v together_o it_o may_v seem_v no_o improbable_a conclusion_n that_o god_n will_v by_o some_o way_n or_o other_o make_v know_v his_o counsel_n to_o all_o man_n for_o their_o
and_o asseveration_n be_v in_o effect_n to_o say_v that_o he_o may_v start_v from_o his_o veracity_n and_o that_o be_v the_o same_o as_o to_o say_v he_o may_v start_v from_o his_o holiness_n or_o in_o other_o word_n that_o he_o may_v himself_o break_v the_o first_o and_o principal_a part_n of_o the_o law_n by_o remit_v the_o penalty_n of_o the_o last_o and_o less_o principal_a for_o holiness_n be_v so_o refine_a a_o thing_n and_o so_o all_o of_o a_o piece_n if_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v that_o he_o who_o transgress_v its_o rule_n in_o any_o one_o case_n do_v by_o so_o do_v forfeit_v his_o title_n to_o the_o whole_a and_o therefore_o be_v true_o call_v unholy_a and_o therefore_o i_o can_v but_o wonder_n that_o man_n after_o almost_o six_o thousand_o year_n experience_v in_o the_o case_n in_o which_o because_o all_o man_n have_v be_v sinner_n therefore_o all_o man_n have_v die_v i_o say_v i_o can_v but_o wonder_n that_o after_o so_o long_a a_o experience_n to_o the_o contrary_a any_o man_n shall_v now_o think_v that_o man_n may_v be_v free_v from_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n before_o they_o have_v fulfil_v the_o direction_n of_o it_o for_o methinks_v by_o that_o experience_n alone_o we_o may_v be_v instruct_v that_o man_n shall_v never_o be_v bless_v with_o impunity_n till_o they_o first_o return_v to_o their_o duty_n and_o that_o they_o must_v first_o be_v obedient_a to_o the_o law_n before_o they_o shall_v be_v free_v from_o the_o vengeance_n of_o it_o but_o because_o some_o thing_n under_o this_o head_n may_v bear_v a_o dispute_n and_o because_o some_o other_o may_v seem_v hard_a to_o be_v understand_v therefore_o to_o be_v more_o plain_a and_o open_a and_o to_o offer_v something_o which_o be_v so_o and_o which_o will_v as_o well_o conduce_v to_o my_o main_a purpose_n and_o design_n i_o lay_v it_o down_o 1._o first_o that_o as_o it_o be_v assert_v in_o the_o gospel_n and_o be_v general_o agree_v among_o all_o christian_n that_o a_o eternal_a life_n and_o happiness_n be_v contain_v in_o that_o salvation_n which_o the_o gospel_n promise_v so_o be_v it_o that_o whosoever_o shall_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o such_o happiness_n and_o such_o life_n must_v be_v so_o perfect_o holy_a as_o to_o be_v eternal_o free_a from_o all_o sin_n for_o as_o without_o holiness_n no_o man_n shall_v see_v the_o lord_n so_o the_o bless_a in_o glory_n be_v by_o all_o allow_v as_o to_o be_v eternal_o without_o misery_n so_o to_o be_v eternal_o without_o sin_n and_o we_o do_v not_o question_v but_o that_o it_o may_v be_v make_v out_o and_o that_o too_o by_o force_n nature_n of_o the_o thing_n be_v inconsistent_a with_o sin_n which_o do_v certain_o and_o constant_o bring_v misery_n along_o with_o it_o wheresoever_o it_o be_v permit_v to_o come_v and_o the_o reason_n why_o i_o say_v i_o do_v not_o question_v it_o be_v because_o what_o have_v be_v do_v already_o may_v be_v do_v again_o and_o we_o know_v very_o well_o that_o the_o thing_n have_v be_v do_v already_o and_o that_o too_o beyond_o all_o possible_a contradiction_n but_o because_o it_o be_v a_o allow_a thing_n that_o where_o the_o seat_n of_o eternal_a happiness_n be_v there_o nothing_o can_v either_o enter_v or_o remain_v but_o pure_a and_o unspotted_a holiness_n therefore_o we_o shall_v spend_v no_o time_n in_o the_o proof_n of_o it_o but_o shall_v take_v it_o for_o grant_v and_o so_o proceed_v to_o our_o 2._o second_o proposition_n which_o be_v that_o the_o holiness_n of_o those_o who_o shall_v inherit_v eternal_a life_n and_o happiness_n do_v not_o come_v from_o themselves_o nor_o be_v either_o the_o archievement_n or_o fruit_n of_o their_o own_o power_n this_o we_o may_v be_v sure_a of_o because_o a_o clean_a thing_n can_v come_v out_o of_o a_o unclean_a and_o all_o man_n here_o be_v unclean_a because_o all_o man_n be_v sinner_n and_o since_o man_n in_o his_o innocence_n do_v not_o keep_v himself_o holy_a it_o be_v unreasonable_a to_o expect_v that_o after_o the_o fall_n when_o man_n ability_n be_v lessen_v that_o any_o man_n shall_v make_v himself_o so_o and_o we_o be_v moreover_o assure_v that_o no_o man_n do_v make_v himself_o so_o because_o all_o man_n do_v die_v and_o we_o be_v further_o assure_v that_o no_o man_n can_v carry_v any_o more_o of_o his_o own_o holiness_n with_o he_o into_o another_o world_n than_o what_o he_o be_v owner_n of_o in_o this_o and_o last_o we_o be_v infallible_o assure_v that_o no_o man_n can_v secure_v to_o himself_o a_o holiness_n to_o eternity_n which_o he_o have_v not_o from_o which_o thing_n run_v over_o in_o short_a we_o may_v be_v satisfy_v that_o that_o holiness_n which_o shall_v for_o ever_o attend_v those_o of_o mankind_n who_o shall_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o eternal_a happiness_n be_v not_o their_o own_o the_o thing_n may_v be_v make_v out_o in_o more_o word_n but_o it_o need_v not_o and_o therefore_o 3._o since_o that_o holiness_n with_o which_o man_n shall_v be_v endow_v in_o heaven_n be_v not_o their_o own_o it_o must_v therefore_o be_v bestow_v upon_o they_o by_o some_o other_o to_o which_o we_o may_v add_v that_o that_o other_o can_v be_v no_o other_o but_o god_n for_o it_o may_v be_v very_o well_o presume_v that_o the_o very_o best_a of_o creature_n have_v no_o holiness_n to_o spare_v upon_o a_o supposition_n that_o one_o creature_n can_v make_v over_o any_o of_o his_o own_o holiness_n to_o another_o for_o upon_o such_o supposition_n whatever_o they_o shall_v contribute_v towards_o the_o perfect_a of_o another_o creature_n holiness_n will_v be_v so_o much_o pare_v off_o from_o their_o own_o and_o so_o a_o defect_n of_o their_o own_o holiness_n will_v be_v the_o consequence_n of_o that_o other_o perfection_n and_o a_o abatement_n at_o least_o if_o not_o the_o loss_n of_o their_o own_o happiness_n a_o consequence_n of_o such_o defect_n but_o than_o it_o be_v a_o vain_a thing_n to_o conceive_v that_o one_o creature_n can_v make_v over_o its_o own_o inherent_a holiness_n to_o another_o and_o it_o be_v as_o vain_a a_o thing_n to_o think_v that_o it_o can_v bestow_v on_o that_o other_o a_o holiness_n which_o it_o have_v not_o to_o bestow_v and_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o it_o have_v no_o holiness_n but_o it_o be_v own_o but_o neither_o shall_v i_o pursue_v this_o any_o far_a because_o i_o shall_v at_o one_o view_v offer_v a_o short_a prospect_n of_o all_o that_o have_v be_v already_o lay_v down_o in_o order_n to_o make_v it_o good_a that_o our_o saviour_n have_v make_v provision_n that_o believer_n shall_v be_v endow_v with_o a_o indefectible_a holiness_n in_o a_o future_a and_o happy_a life_n take_v we_o notice_n therefore_o that_o as_o a_o gospel-salvation_n do_v imply_v in_o it_o not_o only_o the_o pardon_n of_o sin_n but_o the_o reward_n of_o righteousness_n too_o so_o the_o reward_n of_o righteousness_n as_o the_o gospel_n and_o as_o he_o who_o be_v both_o the_o author_n of_o that_o gospel_n and_o of_o that_o reward_n do_v set_v it_o forth_o be_v to_o be_v eternal_a and_o everlasting_a now_o though_o it_o shall_v be_v grant_v that_o heaven_n and_o happiness_n be_v in_o itself_o the_o just_a reward_n of_o duty_n and_o obedience_n yet_o it_o can_v be_v so_o free_o grant_v that_o a_o eternity_n of_o happiness_n be_v so_o unless_o that_o duty_n or_o obedience_n to_o which_o that_o happiness_n be_v assign_v be_v eternal_a also_o and_o the_o reason_n why_o such_o a_o thing_n can_v be_v grant_v be_v ground_v upon_o matter_n of_o fact_n and_o that_o matter_n of_o fact_n authorize_v by_o god_n own_o judicial_a proceed_n for_o we_o may_v safe_o affirm_v that_o the_o fall_v angel_n be_v once_o holy_a and_o we_o may_v affirm_v it_o so_o much_o the_o more_o safe_o because_o be_v in_o their_o nature_n creature_n capable_a of_o so_o noble_a a_o qualification_n there_o can_v no_o doubt_n be_v make_v but_o that_o they_o come_v forth_o such_o out_o of_o the_o hand_n of_o their_o most_o holy_a creator_n though_o encumbrance_n of_o all_o those_o misery_n which_o do_v constant_o attend_v our_o mortal_a life_n in_o this_o world_n i_o say_v if_o god_n have_v do_v so_o great_a thing_n for_o we_o we_o ought_v to_o at_o hand_n but_o that_o those_o of_o a_o better_a life_n be_v lodge_v at_o a_o distance_n and_o so_o we_o be_v engage_v in_o our_o pursuit_n after_o the_o first_o by_o our_o sense_n but_o we_o can_v only_o pursue_v the_o last_o by_o our_o faith_n or_o hope_n yet_o because_o our_o experience_n upon_o innumerable_a repetition_n have_v constant_o convince_v we_o that_o our_o sense_n have_v always_o deceive_v we_o for_o our_o high_a and_o most_o exalt_a enjoyment_n here_o do_v always_o determine_v in_o emptiness_n and_o dissatisfaction_n i_o say_v for_o this_o single_a reason_n if_o yet_o there_o thing_n which_o we_o so_o pursue_v for_o if_o we_o do_v not_o than_o we_o lose_v our_o desire_a happiness_n by_o our_o disappointment_n but_o if_o we_o do_v then_o either_o they_o must_v leave_v we_o by_o reason_n of_o their_o slipperiness_n and_o uncertainty_n or_o we_o must_v leave_v they_o by_o reason_n of_o our_o mortality_n and_o then_o be_v it_o one_o or_o be_v it_o other_o the_o case_n be_v much_o one_o and_o the_o same_o for_o in_o both_o case_n the_o expect_a happiness_n vanish_v and_o because_o by_o this_o we_o may_v perceive_v that_o we_o can_v be_v make_v happy_a by_o any_o thing_n in_o this_o life_n therefore_o 3._o let_v we_o be_v exhort_v to_o seek_v our_o happiness_n in_o a_o future_a life_n that_o be_v as_o have_v appear_v to_o seek_v it_o there_o where_o it_o may_v be_v have_v for_o if_o happiness_n be_v to_o be_v have_v any_o where_o undoubted_o it_o be_v to_o be_v have_v in_o the_o favour_n and_o presence_n of_o god_n who_o as_o he_o be_v the_o undoubted_a author_n the_o kind_n and_o favourable_a presence_n of_o god_n that_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o because_o we_o know_v that_o no_o unholy_a or_o impure_a thing_n shall_v come_v into_o the_o presence_n of_o he_o who_o be_v of_o pure_a eye_n than_o to_o behold_v iniquity_n therefore_o to_o the_o present_a exhortation_n let_v i_o add_v this_o direction_n and_o that_o be_v that_o we_o pursue_v our_o future_a glory_n and_o immortality_n or_o eternal_a life_n hereafter_o by_o a_o holy_a life_n here_o for_o the_o true_a and_o solid_a reason_n why_o there_o be_v no_o misery_n nor_o death_n in_o heaven_n be_v because_o mortality_n and_o misery_n have_v no_o place_n in_o heaven_n we_o may_v for_o that_o reason_n stand_v confirm_v that_o sin_n and_o impiety_n have_v no_o place_n there_o neither_o if_o therefore_o we_o do_v in_o good_a earnest_a design_n to_o be_v lodge_v in_o those_o region_n of_o happiness_n we_o must_v first_o be_v sure_a to_o cast_v off_o our_o sin_n and_o to_o leave_v they_o behind_o we_o for_o so_o sure_a as_o death_n be_v the_o wage_n of_o sin_n so_o sure_o it_o be_v that_o immortality_n and_o happiness_n shall_v not_o be_v the_o portion_n of_o the_o impenitent_a and_o so_o long_o as_o god_n be_v in_o his_o own_o nature_n holy_a and_o that_o be_v so_o long_o as_o he_o be_v god_n so_o long_o he_o must_v be_v displease_v with_o all_o those_o who_o be_v please_v with_o and_o make_v much_o of_o sin_n the_o grand_a enemy_n of_o such_o his_o nature_n because_o the_o grand_a enemy_n of_o such_o his_o holiness_n chap._n fourteen_o wherein_o the_o happiness_n of_o eternal_a life_n do_v consist_v several_a reflection_n and_o consideration_n on_o what_o have_v be_v say_v tend_v to_o promote_v a_o holy_a life_n have_v in_o the_o last_o chapter_n show_v by_o what_o mean_v we_o be_v put_v into_o the_o possession_n of_o a_o happy_a and_o eternal_a life_n the_o purchase_n of_o our_o saviour_n merit_n we_o must_v in_o this_o according_a to_o our_o promise_n inquire_v wherein_o the_o happiness_n of_o such_o life_n do_v consist_v and_o in_o answer_n to_o this_o inquiry_n we_o lay_v it_o down_o in_o short_a that_o the_o consummate_v happiness_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o eternal_a life_n do_v consist_v in_o that_o joy_n pleasure_n and_o full_a satisfaction_n which_o result_v from_o their_o love_v the_o lord_n their_o god_n with_o all_o their_o heart_n with_o all_o their_o soul_n with_o all_o their_o strength_n and_o with_o all_o their_o mind_n and_o from_o their_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n the_o party_n belove_v and_o his_o love_n i_o have_v choose_v to_o express_v the_o love_n of_o the_o glorify_a saint_n to_o god_n in_o the_o word_n of_o scripture_n because_o they_o seem_v to_o i_o to_o contain_v in_o they_o such_o a_o intense_a love_n under_z so_o large_a and_o comprehensive_a a_o expression_n that_o have_v i_o deliver_v it_o in_o other_o word_n i_o shall_v more_o than_o have_v doubt_v that_o i_o shall_v have_v fall_v short_a of_o the_o thing_n and_o i_o do_v believe_v that_o such_o caution_n will_v then_o appear_v to_o be_v no_o scrupulous_a nicety_n when_o we_o shall_v come_v serious_o to_o weigh_v and_o consider_v those_o thing_n that_o follow_v 1._o and_o first_o we_o take_v notice_n what_o every_o one_o may_v easy_o be_v satisfy_v of_o by_o their_o own_o experience_n that_o we_o love_v ourselves_o best_a that_o be_v before_o and_o beyond_o all_o other_o person_n and_o all_o thing_n whatsoever_o and_o there_o neither_o be_v nor_o can_v be_v any_o doubt_n but_o that_o such_o our_o inclination_n be_v plant_v in_o we_o at_o our_o first_o formation_n by_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n himself_o and_o therefore_o neither_o do_v god_n ever_o require_v of_o we_o to_o slight_a or_o cast_v it_o away_o but_o by_o such_o motive_n that_o will_v more_o than_o recompense_v all_o the_o evil_a that_o we_o do_v or_o can_v suffer_v by_o our_o so_o do_v and_o therefore_o he_o who_o in_o the_o cause_n of_o god_n and_o goodness_n shall_v so_o far_o undervalue_v his_o own_o welfare_n as_o to_o part_v with_o that_o welfare_n be_v it_o what_o it_o will_v for_o the_o sake_n of_o such_o cause_n may_v be_v sure_a of_o a_o compensation_n from_o god_n hand_n that_o shall_v repair_v his_o damage_n with_o advantage_n and_o that_o too_o though_o what_o he_o so_o part_n with_o be_v life_n itself_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v a_o fix_a and_o undoubted_a persuasion_n in_o the_o primitive_a christian_n that_o
afterward_o shall_v go_v from_o hence_o with_o he_o and_o be_v with_o he_o where_o he_o be_v for_o they_o shall_v ever_o be_v with_o the_o lord_n but_o the_o earth_n shall_v fly_v away_o before_o resurrection_n and_o that_o be_v that_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v bring_v to_o pass_v till_o the_o last_o day_n by_o which_o i_o understand_v the_o last_o day_n of_o the_o oeconomy_n of_o this_o world_n or_o the_o day_n of_o our_o saviour_n first_o come_v to_o judgement_n consult_v st._n john_n chap._n 6._o ver_fw-la 39_o 40._o at_o which_o day_n as_o the_o faithful_a whether_o dead_a and_o then_o raise_v or_o remain_v or_o not_o yet_o dead_a shall_v be_v catch_v up_o to_o meet_v the_o lord_n in_o the_o air_n 1_o thess_n 4._o ver_fw-la 16._o so_o in_o that_o day_n the_o earth_n and_o the_o have_v a_o plausible_a argument_n for_o that_o which_o we_o have_v call_v the_o second_o resurrection_n which_o be_v the_o resurrection_n of_o some_o man_n whoever_o they_o be_v at_o present_a after_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o righteous_a because_o after_o the_o resurrection_n of_o the_o faithful_a and_o the_o destruction_n of_o all_o the_o rest_n by_o fire_n as_o aforesaid_a and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o also_o a_o thousand_o year_n after_o that_o satan_n be_v let_v loose_a to_o deceive_v the_o nation_n now_o after_o the_o general_a conflagration_n there_o can_v be_v no_o nation_n to_o be_v deceive_v if_o there_o be_v no_o resurrection_n they_o therefore_o who_o he_o be_v to_o deceive_v be_v those_o who_o be_v raise_v in_o the_o five_o verse_n as_o be_v before_o say_v for_o he_o can_v deceive_v those_o of_o the_o first_o resurrection_n for_o many_o obvious_a reason_n but_o far_a to_o assert_v this_o second_o resurrection_n and_o to_o clear_v such_o doubt_n as_o may_v arise_v concern_v it_o we_o shall_v inquire_v into_o these_o follow_a particular_n 1._o who_o those_o man_n be_v that_o shall_v be_v raise_v by_o it_o 2._o why_o the_o devil_n be_v let_v loose_a to_o deceive_v they_o 3._o why_o they_o be_v call_v the_o nation_n 4._o who_o be_v gog_n and_o magog_n for_o as_o we_o shall_v see_v by_o and_o by_o gog_n and_o magog_n must_v come_v under_o this_o second_o resurrection_n 1._o and_o for_o a_o answer_n to_o the_o first_o question_n viz._n who_o those_o be_v who_o shall_v be_v raise_v by_o the_o second_o resurrection_n we_o must_v take_v notice_n that_o the_o scripture_n do_v tell_v we_o what_o it_o have_v be_v our_o business_n in_o the_o forego_n discourse_n to_o prove_v 1._o that_o there_o be_v not_o salvation_n in_o any_o other_o but_o in_o jesus_n christ_n alone_o 2._o the_o same_o scripture_n do_v tell_v we_o that_o those_o man_n who_o shall_v be_v save_v by_o jesus_n christ_n must_v believe_v in_o he_o that_o be_v they_o must_v receive_v he_o for_o their_o saviour_n and_o admit_v the_o condition_n of_o that_o covenant_n which_o he_o establish_v in_o order_n to_o their_o salvation_n 3._o the_o same_o scripture_n and_o our_o natural_a reason_n do_v tell_v we_o that_o man_n can_v believe_v in_o he_o of_o who_o they_o have_v not_o hear_v 4._o and_o we_o be_v assure_v by_o experience_n not_o only_o that_o many_o man_n but_o that_o many_o nation_n of_o man_n and_o that_o too_o through_o most_o if_o not_o all_o age_n of_o the_o world_n have_v not_o hear_v of_o jesus_n christ_n 5._o and_o yet_o we_o know_v by_o the_o scripture_n that_o jesus_n christ_n come_v to_o save_v all_o man_n that_o he_o die_v for_o all_o that_o god_n will_v not_o that_o any_o shall_v perish_v but_o that_o all_o shall_v come_v to_o repentance_n and_o be_v save_v with_o much_o more_o to_o the_o same_o purpose_n 6._o and_o we_o be_v assure_v that_o where_o god_n will_v the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n and_o where_o he_o have_v provide_v mean_v sufficient_a for_o the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n that_o there_o he_o will_v not_o we_o may_v perhaps_o say_v can_v in_o truth_n equity_n and_o justice_n so_o order_n thing_n by_o his_o providence_n that_o many_o nay_o the_o most_o part_n of_o those_o man_n for_o who_o as_o well_o as_o for_o the_o rest_n he_o provide_v and_o therefore_o design_v salvation_n shall_v be_v put_v in_o such_o circumstance_n and_o that_o without_o their_o own_o fault_n as_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v utter_o impossible_a for_o they_o to_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o their_o saviour_n and_o his_o gospel_n and_o by_o consequence_n to_o a_o possibility_n of_o obtain_v salvation_n now_o from_o these_o proposition_n so_o lay_v down_o we_o do_v infer_v 1._o that_o at_o some_o time_n or_o other_o jesus_n christ_n shall_v be_v make_v know_v to_o all_o man_n before_o they_o shall_v by_o he_o be_v call_v to_o judgement_n to_o give_v a_o account_n whether_o they_o have_v receive_v and_o believe_v in_o he_o or_o not_o 2._o that_o all_o those_o man_n to_o who_o jesus_n christ_n and_o his_o gospel_n be_v never_o make_v know_v before_o their_o death_n shall_v yet_o be_v make_v acquaint_v with_o they_o after_o their_o resurrection_n and_o in_o order_n to_o our_o more_o full_a satisfaction_n in_o these_o conclusion_n we_o take_v notice_n far_o 1._o that_o all_o upon_o who_o a_o final_a judgement_n shall_v pass_v that_o be_v all_o man_n be_v by_o the_o scripture_n range_v into_o two_o sort_n those_o who_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o those_o who_o shall_v be_v damn_v 2._o that_o those_o with_o who_o resurrection_n we_o be_v make_v acquaint_v from_o the_o five_o to_o the_o nine_o verse_n of_o the_o twenty_o of_o revelation_n inclusive_a be_v raise_v after_o the_o resurrection_n in_o the_o four_o verse_n be_v over_o and_o be_v raise_v and_o go_v before_o the_o resurrection_n in_o the_o eleven_o twelve_o and_o follow_v verse_n do_v commence_v which_o be_v express_o resurrection_n of_o remuneration_n whereas_o those_o of_o this_o second_o resurrection_n be_v not_o during_o the_o time_n that_o their_o resurrection_n last_v call_v to_o any_o final_a judgement_n for_o any_o thing_n that_o they_o have_v do_v in_o this_o life_n but_o be_v all_o that_o while_o treat_v much_o after_o the_o same_o manner_n as_o man_n in_o this_o life_n be_v and_o this_o will_v yet_o far_o appear_v if_o we_o consider_v that_o satan_n be_v let_v loose_a to_o tempt_v they_o for_o 1._o they_o that_o be_v raise_v to_o happiness_n and_o glory_n and_o so_o be_v all_o they_o who_o have_v in_o this_o life_n hear_v of_o and_o believe_v in_o the_o saviour_n shall_v not_o after_o their_o resurrection_n be_v tempt_v by_o he_o they_o have_v fight_v the_o good_a fight_n they_o have_v keep_v the_o faith_n they_o have_v finish_v their_o course_n and_o from_o thenceforth_o be_v to_o obtain_v the_o crown_n of_o glory_n lay_v up_o for_o they_o 2._o and_o all_o those_o who_o have_v in_o this_o life_n be_v make_v acquaint_v with_o the_o saviour_n and_o have_v reject_v he_o have_v by_o that_o mean_v put_v away_o salvation_n from_o themselves_o and_o therefore_o shall_v at_o their_o resurrection_n be_v raise_v to_o condemnation_n and_o so_o there_o will_v be_v no_o occasion_n for_o the_o devil_n to_o tempt_v they_o 3._o to_o which_o we_o may_v add_v that_o when_o we_o be_v tell_v that_o satan_n be_v let_v loose_a to_o tempt_v the_o nation_n it_o be_v imply_v that_o he_o will_v tempt_v they_o from_o something_o that_o be_v good_a to_o something_o that_o be_v evil_a for_o we_o know_v to_o what_o end_v his_o temptation_n do_v drive_v and_o that_o he_o
the_o state_n of_o the_o jewish_a nation_n then_o when_o they_o be_v lead_v captive_a to_o babylon_n yet_o it_o may_v for_o all_o that_o have_v a_o far_a prospect_n to_o their_o utter_a extirpation_n when_o their_o whole_a nation_n be_v root_v up_o after_o our_o saviour_n crucifixion_n and_o then_o as_o god_n punish_v the_o amorites_n the_o moabite_n those_o of_o mount_n seir_n the_o edomite_n the_o philistine_n the_o tyrian_n the_o sidonian_n the_o egyptian_n the_o assyrian_n for_o their_o cruelty_n to_o the_o jew_n see_v ezek._n chap._n 25_o 26_o 27_o 28_o 29_o 30_o 31_o 32._o and_o afterward_o the_o roman_n for_o they_o all_o which_o nation_n and_o perhaps_o some_o other_o the_o roman_n except_v be_v sum_v up_o under_o the_o name_n of_o gog_n and_o magog_n in_o the_o thirty_o eight_o and_o thirty_o nine_o chapter_n so_o the_o destruction_n of_o those_o who_o be_v seduce_v under_o the_o second_o resurrection_n may_v be_v there_o describe_v allegorical_o by_o the_o destruction_n of_o gog_n and_o magog_n that_o be_v the_o destruction_n of_o those_o who_o shall_v then_o reject_v the_o saviour_n and_o oppose_v his_o people_n after_o he_o be_v tender_v to_o they_o upon_o the_o second_o resurrection_n may_v because_o of_o the_o parity_n of_o the_o case_n be_v account_v for_o in_o such_o term_n in_o which_o the_o enemy_n of_o the_o jewish_a church_n the_o type_n of_o the_o christian_a church_n be_v record_v to_o have_v be_v destroy_v by_o the_o prophecy_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n gog_n and_o magog_n then_o in_o the_o twenty_o of_o revelation_n be_v those_o people_n of_o the_o second_o resurrection_n who_o have_v be_v seduce_v by_o satan_n to_o refuse_v and_o oppose_v the_o saviour_n and_o they_o who_o die_v in_o he_o rise_v first_o be_v for_o that_o the_o reason_n why_o there_o be_v not_o in_o the_o scripture_n any_o more_o express_a revelation_n of_o a_o future_a probation_n of_o those_o upon_o their_o resurrection_n who_o know_v nothing_o of_o a_o saviour_n in_o this_o world_n seem_v to_o be_v these_o two_n 1._o because_o their_o resurrection_n and_o probation_n upon_o such_o resurrection_n neither_o do_v nor_o can_v concern_v those_o who_o have_v the_o scripture_n for_o by_o those_o scripture_n they_o may_v come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o saviour_n in_o this_o life_n which_o be_v as_o much_o as_o concern_v they_o and_o 2._o have_v this_o resurrection_n and_o probation_n be_v put_v into_o the_o scripture_n yet_o those_o who_o have_v not_o those_o scripture_n in_o this_o life_n can_v for_o that_o reason_n have_v know_v nothing_o of_o the_o matter_n in_o this_o life_n and_o so_o as_o to_o they_o as_o well_o as_o to_o the_o other_o it_o have_v be_v put_v into_o the_o scripture_n in_o vain_a but_o yet_o when_o the_o account_n which_o the_o scripture_n give_v we_o of_o god_n deal_v with_o mankind_n draw_v towards_o a_o conclusion_n that_o be_v when_o it_o come_v to_o that_o period_n where_o their_o case_n end_v who_o have_v in_o this_o life_n have_v the_o revelation_n of_o a_o saviour_n and_o where_o their_o case_n begin_v who_o shall_v have_v such_o revelation_n after_o their_o resurrection_n i_o say_v when_o the_o scripture_n do_v come_v to_o that_o point_n they_o do_v by_o the_o account_n that_o they_o then_o give_v we_o of_o the_o thousand_o year_n of_o the_o city_n of_o the_o saint_n of_o gog_n and_o magog_n etc._n etc._n compare_v with_o some_o other_o text_n give_v we_o some_o dusky_a glimpse_n of_o such_o a_o oeconomy_n and_o proceed_v 3._o the_o three_o and_o last_o resurrection_n be_v account_v for_o in_o the_o eleven_o and_o follow_a verse_n to_o the_o end_n of_o the_o chapter_n in_o which_o we_o have_v a_o account_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n by_o the_o description_n of_o the_o great_a white_a throne_n and_o he_o that_o sit_v upon_o it_o etc._n etc._n and_o this_o resurrection_n i_o take_v to_o be_v only_o the_o resurrection_n of_o gog_n and_o magog_n and_o of_o all_o other_o who_o have_v refuse_v the_o saviour_n in_o this_o life_n as_o gog_n and_o magog_n do_v after_o their_o resurrection_n 1._o for_o first_o the_o faithful_a in_o this_o life_n be_v raise_v in_o the_o four_o verse_n and_o die_v no_o more_o all_o then_o that_o be_v raise_v at_o the_o first_o resurrection_n i_o take_v to_o be_v one_o part_n of_o those_o who_o be_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n for_o though_o the_o description_n of_o those_o raise_v in_o the_o four_o verse_n may_v not_o seem_v and_o be_v not_o think_v by_o some_o to_o extend_v to_o all_o the_o faithful_a in_o this_o life_n but_o only_o to_o martyr_n yet_o because_o several_a other_o text_n do_v assure_v we_o that_o the_o dead_a in_o christ_n shall_v rise_v first_o therefore_o by_o the_o warrant_n of_o those_o text_n in_o conjunction_n with_o the_o four_o verse_n i_o do_v extend_v the_o first_o resurrection_n to_o all_o who_o believe_v in_o this_o world_n beside_o they_o who_o do_v not_o receive_v the_o mark_n of_o the_o beast_n nor_o of_o his_o image_n in_o the_o four_o verse_n and_o they_o that_o do_v i_o say_v this_o division_n do_v include_v all_o believer_n and_o unbeliever_n in_o this_o world_n and_o it_o be_v notorious_a that_o so_o it_o do_v through_o the_o whole_a account_n that_o this_o book_n of_o the_o revelation_n give_v we_o of_o the_o beast_n and_o his_o follower_n and_o of_o those_o who_o refuse_v the_o mark_n of_o the_o beast_n 2._o and_o we_o have_v already_o surmise_v that_o some_o of_o those_o who_o be_v raise_v by_o the_o second_o resurrection_n shall_v believe_v and_o be_v save_v and_o that_o too_o before_o the_o great_a white_a throne_n be_v set_v and_o indeed_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v think_v that_o the_o saviour_n shall_v be_v make_v know_v to_o they_o unless_o some_o of_o they_o be_v to_o have_v receive_v and_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o therefore_o i_o do_v entire_o exclude_v both_o these_o sort_n of_o believer_n that_o be_v in_o other_o word_n i_o do_v exclude_v all_o who_o shall_v be_v save_v out_o of_o this_o three_o and_o last_o resurrection_n and_o he_o who_o shall_v well_o weigh_v and_o consider_v the_o account_n that_o be_v give_v of_o the_o great_a judgement_n mention_v in_o the_o eleven_o and_o follow_a verse_n will_v i_o believe_v be_v satisfy_v that_o it_o be_v only_o the_o judgement_n pass_v upon_o unbeliever_n for_o as_o the_o book_n that_o be_v open_v be_v mention_v as_o distinct_a from_o the_o book_n of_o life_n so_o it_o be_v express_o say_v that_o they_o be_v judge_v out_o of_o the_o book_n if_o therefore_o the_o book_n of_o life_n do_v contain_v in_o it_o all_o that_o be_v save_v as_o most_o notorious_o so_o it_o do_v for_o beside_o the_o import_n of_o the_o phrase_n the_o text_n tell_v we_o that_o whosoever_o be_v not_o find_v write_v in_o the_o book_n of_o life_n be_v cast_v into_o the_o lake_n of_o fire_n ver_fw-la 15._o then_o those_o who_o be_v judge_v out_o of_o the_o
