reign_v at_o their_o pleasure_n they_o can_v not_o endure_v to_o have_v their_o naughty_a affection_n and_o dissolute_a manner_n to_o be_v bridle_v and_o the_o abuse_n of_o their_o estate_n correct_v and_o their_o tyranny_n suppress_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n they_o bestir_v they_o on_o every_o side_n by_o all_o mean_v possible_a and_o employ_v all_o their_o force_n to_o cast_v of_o the_o yoke_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o the_o end_n they_o will_v not_o be_v subject_n to_o he_o and_o consider_v not_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n that_o in_o refuse_v to_o yield_v unto_o god_n that_o obedience_n which_o they_o owe_v unto_o he_o they_o rest_v subject_n to_o the_o devil_n and_o become_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o his_o slave_n for_o they_o have_v rather_o to_o reign_v by_o the_o devil_n and_o the_o devil_n to_o reign_v in_o they_o they_o to_o live_v and_o reign_v by_o god_n and_o god_n to_o reign_v in_o they_o and_o over_o they_o wherefore_o we_o may_v well_o say_v of_o they_o altogether_o that_o which_o s._n paul_n do_v of_o the_o minister_n of_o his_o time_n at_o which_o time_n the_o word_n of_o god_n do_v geve_v fruit_n in_o other_o sort_n then_o now_o it_o do_v every_o one_o say_v they_o and_o draw_v with_o they_o in_o the_o same_o yoke_n that_o they_o draw_v be_v oft_o time_n those_o that_o hinder_v they_o more_o than_o any_o other_o t._n when_o this_o happen_v the_o hindrance_n be_v not_o small_a for_o one_o only_a horse_n that_o draw_v backward_o do_v hinder_v more_o than_o six_o horse_n which_o draw_v forward_o be_v able_a to_o overcome_v ¶_o of_o the_o empeachmente_n that_o man_n geve_v one_o to_o a_o other_o in_o the_o reformation_n of_o the_o church_n and_o of_o the_o punyshment_n of_o god_n upon_o they_o for_o the_o same_o cause_n d._n if_o it_o so_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o minister_n agree_v well_o and_o do_v well_o acquit_v they_o of_o their_o duty_n peradventure_o they_o shall_v not_o find_v the_o magistrate_n and_o officer_n of_o that_o same_o sort_n which_o will_v put_v to_o their_o hand_n to_o help_v they_o in_o their_o ministry_n as_o their_o office_n require_v but_o will_v rather_o band_n against_o they_o to_o overthrow_v all_o good_a discipline_n and_o will_v rather_o maintain_v vicious_a man_n then_o virtuous_a or_o else_o if_o it_o come_v so_o to_o pass_v that_o the_o magistrate_n and_o officer_n be_v well_o affect_v toward_o the_o reformation_n of_o the_o church_n they_o may_v meet_v with_o minister_n which_o shall_v not_o great_o hasten_v they_o forward_o but_o will_v rather_o dissuade_v they_o from_o it_o where_o they_o ought_v to_o persuade_v they_o to_o it_o and_o will_v rather_o geve_v they_o liberty_n to_o run_v a_o stray_n then_o to_o put_v they_o in_o the_o right_a path_n or_o if_o it_o so_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o the_o minister_n and_o magistrate_n with_o the_o officer_n be_v all_o of_o one_o mind_n as_o concern_v holy_a thing_n and_o do_v help_v one_o a_o other_o in_o the_o work_n of_o the_o lord_n which_o thing_n be_v very_o seldom_o see_v yet_o shall_v they_o have_v much_o to_o do_v to_o range_v the_o people_n under_o any_o good_a discipline_n for_o there_o be_v few_o which_o be_v tractable_a and_o will_v willing_o submit_v themselves_o unto_o it_o and_o if_o there_o be_v some_o of_o so_o good_a a_o sort_n there_o shall_v be_v some_o minister_n or_o some_o magistrate_n that_o shall_v seek_v to_o alter_v he_o and_o be_v offend_v with_o he_o wherefore_o see_v that_o there_o be_v so_o few_o minister_n magistrate_n and_o people_n that_o be_v willing_a to_o submit_v
compare_v it_o with_o the_o age_n of_o that_o life_n which_o last_v for_o ever_o d._n yet_o do_v we_o learn_v art_n and_o science_n and_o occupation_n in_o number_n in_o manner_n infinite_a which_o can_v stand_v we_o in_o no_o stead_n but_o only_o in_o this_o miserable_a and_o wretched_a life_n and_o on_o the_o contrary_a we_o have_v but_o one_o to_o learn_v which_o be_v able_a to_o lead_v we_o out_o of_o all_o the_o misery_n and_o wretchedness_n wherein_o we_o be_v here_o wrap_v and_o to_o make_v we_o happy_a for_o ever_o and_o yet_o we_o make_v none_o account_n thereof_o but_o fiee_n from_o it_o reject_v it_o and_o persecute_v it_o how_o shall_v we_o now_o be_v able_a to_o excuse_v ourselves_o we_o will_v rise_v three_o or_o four_o hour_n before_o day_n yea_o at_o mydnight_n we_o will_v ride_v &_o run_v day_n and_o night_n both_o by_o sea_n and_o land_n with_o great_a pain_n and_o travail_n and_o oftentimes_o in_o great_a danger_n of_o life_n and_o x._o heb._n 1_o act._n x._o all_o this_o will_v we_o do_v to_o gain_v a_o little_a piece_n of_o money_n but_o although_o that_o god_n do_v send_v we_o his_o prophet_n his_o apostle_n yea_o his_o own_o son_n and_o that_o he_o his_o gift_n and_o grace_n in_o our_o own_o house_n yea_o even_o in_o our_o bed_n and_o table_n yet_o notwithstanding_o we_o will_v not_o vouchsafe_v once_o to_o receive_v he_o we_o will_v understand_v nothing_o of_o he_o nor_o yet_o learn_v any_o thing_n of_o he_o shall_v we_o then_o allege_v our_o ignorance_n and_o excuse_v ourselves_o by_o it_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v very_o well_o understande_v of_o this_o sycknes_n and_o of_o the_o danger_n thereof_o wherefore_o he_o say_v to_o those_o people_n that_o do_v follow_v he_o more_o for_o their_o belly_n then_o for_o ambussh_n and_o assault_n whereby_o we_o may_v avoid_v his_o snare_n wherefore_o all_o thing_n well_o consider_v i_o see_v very_o small_a reason_n wherewith_o to_o excuse_v man_n for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n but_o may_v find_v mean_n sufficient_a to_o attain_v to_o this_o knowledge_n of_o god_n if_o that_o we_o be_v so_o careful_a of_o the_o eternal_a life_n as_o we_o be_v of_o this_o present_a life_n and_o will_v as_o wyllinglye_o seek_v for_o the_o one_o as_o for_o the_o other_o for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o may_v aid_v we_o in_o that_o behalf_n but_o god_n have_v give_v it_o unto_o us._n ¶_o of_o the_o vice_n that_o make_v man_n ignorant_a of_o god_n and_o of_o his_o truth_n and_o how_o the_o servant_n of_o god_n continual_o bring_v accusation_n against_o they_o d._n saint_n paul_n be_v not_o ignorant_a of_o this_o and_o therefore_o although_o he_o say_v that_o he_o have_v obtain_v mercy_n for_o his_o 1_o 1._o tun._n 1_o persecute_v the_o church_n of_o god_n through_o negligence_n and_o carelessness_n which_o be_v natural_o in_o man_n as_o touch_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n and_o godly_a thing_n nor_o wythoute_n some_o portion_n of_o the_o pride_n rashness_n wylfulnesse_n presumption_n and_o arrogancy_n of_o the_o phariseis_n and_o of_o the_o leaven_n of_o hypocrisy_n and_o superstition_n which_o be_v very_o great_a vice_n from_o the_o which_o even_o those_o that_o be_v most_o perfect_a and_o holy_a can_v well_o shift_n they_o although_o they_o do_v not_o appear_v unto_o man_n t._n if_o then_o this_o do_v happen_v to_o such_o as_o be_v of_o the_o most_o perfect_a sort_n as_o to_o saint_n paul_n what_o shall_v become_v then_o of_o a_o sort_n of_o glorious_a and_o arrogant_a hypocrite_n which_o be_v much_o more_o full_a of_o hypocrisy_n then_o of_o good_a conscience_n and_o have_v a_o great_a care_n for_o their_o own_o glory_n and_o profyt_v then_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o the_o edification_n of_o his_o church_n and_o have_v such_o a_o opinion_n of_o their_o own_o knowledge_n justice_n and_o perfection_n that_o they_o think_v that_o no_o man_n may_v amend_v or_o correct_v any_o jot_n thereof_o for_o there_o be_v very_o few_o such_o ignorant_a one_o among_o the_o persecutor_n of_o the_o church_n as_o be_v saint_n paul_n before_o his_o conversion_n d._n there_o be_v no_o doubt_n of_o that_o saint_n peter_n do_v also_o impute_v unto_o ignorance_n in_o the_o sermon_n that_o he_o make_v in_o jerusalem_n 2._o act._n 2._o upon_o the_o day_n of_o pentecost_n that_o which_o the_o jew_n commit_v against_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o deliver_v of_o 18._o math._n 17._o john_n 18._o he_o to_o death_n &_o prefer_v of_o barrabas_n before_o he_o yet_o not_o withstand_v do_v not_o he_o let_v to_o lay_v it_o great_o to_o their_o charge_n as_o very_a murderer_n of_o the_o true_a author_n of_o life_n and_o very_a son_n of_o god_n t._n i_o perceive_v by_o that_o thou_o say_v that_o god_n require_v of_o we_o we_o shall_v never_o see_v it_o as_o it_o be_v untyl_o that_o we_o be_v with_o god_n and_o see_v he_o face_n to_o face_n and_o know_v he_o as_o he_o have_v know_v us._n for_o if_o there_o be_v no_o man_n of_o so_o excellent_a a_o spirit_n that_o ever_o may_v attain_v unto_o the_o perfect_a understanding_n of_o human_a and_o visible_a thing_n nor_o yet_o of_o one_o of_o those_o science_n that_o appertain_v unto_o this_o earthly_a life_n how_o great_a presumption_n be_v it_o then_o for_o man_n which_o be_v whole_o create_v ignorant_a as_o touch_v godly_a thing_n so_o much_o to_o challenge_v to_o himself_o the_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n of_o those_o thing_n of_o the_o which_o the_o angel_n themselves_o can_v perfect_o understand_v t._n sure_o it_o be_v a_o great_a presumption_n and_o of_o the_o contemplative_a and_o active_a knowledge_n of_o the_o same_o d._n of_o the_o other_o part_n there_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v in_o the_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n of_o the_o will_n of_o god_n which_o thing_n few_o man_n do_v note_n that_o be_v that_o we_o may_v not_o judge_v of_o that_o science_n and_o knowledge_n as_o we_o do_v of_o diverse_a humane_a science_n of_o the_o only_a knowledge_n where_o of_o many_o man_n hold_v they_o well_o satisfy_v wythoute_n any_o further_a practice_n of_o the_o same_o for_o this_o godly_a knowledge_n consist_v not_o only_o in_o contemplation_n require_v nothing_o but_o contemplative_a teacher_n to_o instruct_v the_o mind_n of_o man_n but_o require_v also_o the_o will_n and_o active_a teacher_n and_o practiser_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n christ_n do_v not_o say_v only_o he_o that_o will_v know_v but_o he_o that_o will_v do_v the_o will_n of_o he_o that_o send_v i_o he_o shall_v know_v of_o my_o doctrine_n whether_o it_o be_v of_o god_n or_o 7._o joh._n 7._o whether_o i_o speak_v of_o myself_o for_o there_o be_v that_o for_o curiosity_n and_o for_o some_o other_o affection_n that_o they_o have_v that_o be_v desirous_a to_o know_v the_o will_n of_o god_n but_o not_o to_o that_o end_n to_o direct_v their_o lyve_n according_a to_o the_o same_o and_o therefore_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n declare_v plain_o by_o these_o word_n that_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o let_v man_n from_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o god_n but_o only_o the_o want_n of_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o of_o good_a will_n to_o obey_v and_o honour_n he_o wherefore_o it_o follow_v that_o there_o be_v no_o true_a knowledge_n of_o god_n but_o only_o that_o which_o be_v join_v with_o this_o good_a and_o prompt_a will_n and_o that_o none_o can_v judge_v of_o the_o lord_n doctrine_n but_o those_o that_o be_v of_o such_o a_o mind_n t._n if_o the_o matter_n be_v so_o a_o man_n may_v not_o think_v that_o he_o understand_v or_o know_v any_o thing_n although_o he_o have_v all_o the_o holy_a scripture_n by_o hart_n and_o that_o he_o can_v devise_v and_o discourse_v thereof_o at_o pleasure_n like_o a_o angel_n if_o he_o have_v not_o the_o effect_n of_o that_o doctrine_n imprint_v in_o his_o hart_n and_o that_o he_o be_v as_o it_o be_v clothe_v with_o the_o same_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o he_o may_v put_v the_o same_o in_o practice_n at_o all_o time_n ¶_o of_o the_o true_a study_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o of_o the_o true_a fruit_n that_o come_v of_o the_o same_o d._n that_o be_v very_o true_a for_o if_o it_o be_v sufficient_a to_o have_v only_o a_o bare_a knowledge_n of_o god_n word_n and_o so_o behold_v it_o in_o the_o air_n without_o have_v of_o the_o will_v reform_v by_o the_o same_o the_o devil_n shall_v in_o this_o sort_n exceed_v all_o man_n in_o religion_n for_o he_o have_v knowledge_n and_o understanding_n enough_o if_o that_o he_o have_v a_o will_n according_a to_o the_o same_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o only_o needful_a for_o we_o to_o hear_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o to_o study_n the_o same_o for_o to_o understande_v that_o that_o be_v contain_v in_o that_o same_o doctrine_n and_o then_o to_o proceed_v no_o further_o and_o to_o make_v it_o as_o it_o be_v a_o study_n of_o philosophye_n contemplative_a but_o we_o do_v chief_o need_n to_o wrap_v and_o clothe_v we_o therein_o and_o to_o put_v in_o use_n and_o to_o practice_v in_o our_o lyve_n that_o which_o we_o do_v understande_v and_o know_v or_o else_o to_o what_o end_n do_v our_o knowledge_n and_o understanding_n serve_v for_o to_o what_o end_n do_v a_o man_n learn_v a_o occupation_n be_v it_o for_o that_o he_o will_v never_o use_v it_o or_o else_o only_o to_o talk_v of_o it_o without_o practise_v the_o same_o will_v thou_o think_v he_o perfect_a in_o any_o occupation_n that_o never_o do_v practice_v the_o same_o nor_o never_o declare_v his_o experience_n by_o any_o piece_n of_o his_o work_n t._n no_o truelye_o d._n will_v thou_o then_o think_v he_o to_o be_v a_o good_a christian_a that_o only_o do_v boast_n he_o of_o the_o name_n and_o knowledge_n of_o christianity_n wythoute_n the_o declare_v of_o the_o same_o by_o he_o work_v t._n no_o in_o deed_n ¶_o of_o such_o christian_n as_o be_v ignorant_a of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o of_o those_o that_o abuse_v their_o knowledge_n in_o the_o same_o d._n and_o now_o which_o thynke_v thou_o more_o woorthye_a of_o blame_n either_o he_o that_o do_v know_v no_o occupation_n and_o woork_v not_o or_o else_o he_o that_o have_v a_o good_a occupation_n and_o have_v rather_o to_o loiter_v and_o to_o be_v slothful_a and_o idle_a then_o to_o work_v at_o his_o occupation_n t._n this_o last_o man_n which_o do_v most_o abuse_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n wherefore_o if_o i_o shall_v see_v such_o man_n in_o necessity_n i_o will_v not_o very_o wyllynglye_o geve_v alm_n to_o he_o that_o have_v have_v so_o small_a care_n to_o learn_v some_o occupation_n whereby_o he_o may_v just_o live_v much_o less_o to_o geve_v unto_o he_o that_o have_v rather_o fast_o and_o become_v a_o beggar_n then_o to_o
