power_n commit_v to_o he_o from_o his_o father_n shall_v judge_v they_o and_o that_o he_o be_v send_v by_o his_o father_n and_o that_o whoever_o shall_v hear_v his_o word_n and_o believe_v in_o he_o that_o send_v he_o have_v eternal_a life_n this_o though_o a_o clear_a description_n of_o the_o messiah_n yet_o we_o may_v observe_v that_o here_o to_o the_o angry_a jew_n who_o seek_v to_o kill_v he_o he_o say_v not_o a_o word_n of_o his_o kingdom_n nor_o so_o much_o as_o name_v the_o messiah_n but_o yet_o that_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o send_v from_o god_n he_o refer_v they_o to_o the_o testimony_n of_o john_n the_o baptist_n to_o the_o testimony_n of_o his_o own_o miracle_n and_o of_o god_n himself_o in_o the_o voice_n from_o heaven_n and_o of_o the_o scripture_n and_o of_o moses_n he_o leave_v they_o to_o learn_v from_o these_o the_o truth_n they_o be_v to_o believe_v viz._n that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n send_v from_o god_n this_o you_o may_v read_v more_o at_o large_a john_n v._n 1-47_a the_o next_o place_n where_o we_o find_v he_o preach_v be_v on_o the_o mount_n mat._n v._o and_o luke_n vi_o this_o be_v by_o much_o the_o long_a sermon_n we_o have_v of_o his_o any_o where_o and_o in_o all_o likelihood_n to_o the_o great_a auditory_a for_o it_o appear_v to_o have_v be_v to_o the_o peple_n gather_v to_o he_o from_o galilee_n and_o judea_n and_o reason_n whereof_o we_o may_v gather_v from_o mat._n 12._o 16._o where_o christ_n forbid_v they_o to_o make_v he_o know_v which_o suppose_v they_o to_o know_v already_o who_o he_o be_v for_o that_o chap._n ix_o 22._o these_o word_n speak_v his_o parent_n because_o they_o fear_v the_o jew_n for_o the_o jew_n have_v agree_v already_o that_o if_o any_o man_n do_v confess_v that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n he_o shall_v be_v put_v out_o of_o the_o synagogue_n by_o which_o place_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o to_o confess_v he_o be_v to_o confess_v that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n from_o which_o give_v i_o leave_v to_o observe_v also_o what_o i_o have_v clear_v from_o other_o place_n but_o can_v be_v too_o often_o remark_v because_o of_o the_o different_a sense_n have_v be_v put_v upon_o that_o phrase_n viz._n that_o believe_v on_o or_o in_o he_o for_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d be_v render_v either_o way_n by_o the_o english_a traslation_n signify_v believe_v that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n for_o many_o of_o the_o ruler_n the_o text_n say_v believe_v on_o he_o but_o they_o dare_v not_o confess_v what_o they_o believe_v for_o fear_v they_o shall_v be_v put_v out_o of_o the_o synagogue_n now_o the_o offence_n for_o which_o it_o be_v agree_v that_o any_o one_o shall_v be_v put_v out_o of_o the_o synagogue_n be_v if_o he_o do_v confess_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o god_n have_v raise_v he_o from_o the_o dead_a thou_o shall_v be_v save_v and_o that_o also_o of_o st._n john_n iu._n 14_o 15._o we_o have_v see_v and_o do_v testify_v that_o the_o father_n send_v the_o son_n to_o be_v the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n whosoever_o shall_v confess_v that_o jesus_n be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n god_n dwell_v in_o he_o and_o be_v in_o god_n where_o confess_v jesus_n to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v the_o same_o with_o confess_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n those_o two_o expression_n be_v understand_v among_o the_o jew_n to_o signify_v the_o same_o thing_n as_o we_o have_v show_v already_o how_o call_v he_o the_o son_n of_o god_n come_v to_o signify_v that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n will_v not_o be_v hard_a to_o show_v but_o it_o be_v enough_o that_o it_o appear_v plain_o that_o it_o be_v so_o use_v and_o have_v that_o import_n among_o the_o jew_n at_o that_o time_n which_o if_o any_o one_o desire_n to_o have_v further_o evidence_v to_o see_v our_o saviour_n keep_v to_o his_o usual_a method_n of_o preach_v he_o speak_v to_o they_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o do_v miracle_n by_o which_o they_o may_v understand_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n who_o kingdom_n he_o speak_v of_o and_o here_o we_o have_v the_o reason_n also_o why_o he_o so_o much_o conceal_v himself_o and_o forbear_v to_o own_o his_o be_v the_o messiah_n for_o what_o the_o consequence_n be_v of_o the_o multitude_n but_o think_v he_o so_o when_o they_o be_v get_v together_o st._n john_n tell_v we_o in_o the_o very_a next_o word_n when_o jesus_n then_o perceive_v that_o they_o will_v come_v and_o take_v he_o by_o force_n to_o make_v he_o a_o king_n he_o depart_v again_o into_o a_o mountain_n himself_o alone_o if_o they_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o set_v he_o up_o for_o their_o king_n only_o because_o they_o gather_v from_o his_o miracle_n that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n whilst_o he_o himself_o say_v nothing_o of_o it_o what_o will_v not_o the_o people_n have_v do_v and_o what_o will_v not_o the_o scribe_n and_o pharisee_n have_v have_v a_o opportunity_n to_o accuse_v he_o of_o if_o he_o have_v open_o profess_v himself_o to_o have_v be_v the_o messiah_n that_o king_n they_o look_v for_o but_o this_o we_o have_v take_v notice_n of_o already_o from_o hence_o go_v to_o capernaum_n whither_o he_o be_v follow_v by_o a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o people_n who_o he_o have_v the_o day_n before_o so_o miraculous_o feed_v he_o upon_o the_o occasion_n of_o their_o follow_v he_o for_o the_o loaf_n bid_v they_o seek_v for_o the_o meat_n that_o endure_v to_o eternal_a life_n and_o thereupon_o john_n vi_o 22-69_a declare_v to_o they_o his_o be_v send_v from_o the_o father_n and_o that_o those_o who_o believe_v in_o he_o shall_v be_v raise_v to_o eternal_a life_n but_o all_o this_o very_o much_o involve_v in_o a_o mixture_n of_o allegorical_a term_n of_o eat_v and_o of_o bread_n bread_n of_o life_n which_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n etc._n etc._n which_o be_v all_o comprehend_v and_o expound_v in_o these_o short_a and_o plain_a
word_n v_o 47._o &_o 54._o very_o very_o i_o say_v unto_o you_o he_o that_o believe_v on_o i_o have_v everlasting_a life_n and_o i_o will_v raise_v he_o up_o at_o the_o last_o day_n the_o sum_n of_o all_o which_o discourse_n be_v that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n send_v from_o god_n and_o that_o those_o who_o believe_v he_o to_o be_v so_o shall_v be_v raise_v from_o the_o dead_a at_o the_o last_o the_o grandeur_n of_o a_o temporal_a kingdom_n in_o this_o world_n and_o the_o protection_n and_o prosperity_n they_o have_v promise_v themselves_o under_o it_o the_o hope_n of_o such_o a_o kingdom_n now_o that_o they_o have_v find_v a_o man_n that_o do_v miracle_n and_o therefore_o conclude_v to_o be_v the_o deliverer_n they_o expect_v have_v the_o day_n before_o almost_o draw_v they_o into_o a_o open_a insurrection_n and_o involve_v our_o saviour_n in_o it_o this_o he_o think_v fit_a to_o put_v a_o stop_n to_o they_o still_o follow_v he_o it_o be_v like_a with_o the_o same_o design_n and_o therefore_o though_o he_o here_o speak_v to_o they_o of_o his_o kingdom_n it_o be_v in_o a_o way_n that_o so_o plain_o balk_v their_o expectation_n and_o shock_a they_o that_o when_o they_o find_v themselves_o disappoint_v of_o those_o vain_a hope_n and_o that_o he_o talk_v of_o their_o eat_v his_o flesh_n and_o drink_v his_o blood_n that_o they_o may_v have_v life_n the_o jew_n say_v v_o 52._o how_o can_v this_o man_n give_v we_o his_o flesh_n to_o eat_v and_o many_o even_o of_o his_o disciple_n say_v it_o be_v a_o hard_a say_n who_o can_v bear_v it_o and_o so_o be_v scandalize_v in_o he_o imagine_v to_o ourselves_o this_o probable_a reason_n because_o that_o if_o he_o have_v familiar_o and_o in_o direct_a term_n talk_v to_o his_o apostle_n in_o private_a that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n the_o prince_n of_o who_o kingdom_n he_o preach_v so_o much_o in_o public_a every_o where_o judas_n who_o he_o know_v false_a and_o treacherous_a will_v have_v be_v ready_o make_v use_n of_o to_o testify_v against_o he_o in_o a_o matter_n that_o will_v have_v be_v real_o criminal_a to_o the_o roman_a governor_n this_o perhaps_o may_v help_v to_o clear_v to_o we_o that_o seem_o abrupt_a reply_n of_o our_o saviour_n to_o his_o apostle_n john_n vi_o 70._o when_o they_o confess_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n i_o will_v for_o the_o better_a explain_v of_o it_o set_v down_o the_o passage_n at_o large_a peter_n have_v say_v we_o believe_v and_o be_v sure_a that_o thou_o be_v the_o messiah_n the_o son_n of_o the_o live_a god_n jesus_n answer_v they_o have_v not_o i_o choose_v temple_n and_o raise_v it_o again_o in_o three_o day_n be_v when_o they_o shall_v reflect_v on_o it_o after_o his_o be_v betray_v by_o judas_n you_o have_v confess_v and_o believe_v the_o truth_n concern_v i_o i_o be_o the_o messiah_n your_o king_n but_o do_v not_o wonder_v at_o it_o that_o i_o have_v never_o open_o declare_v it_o to_o you_o for_o among_o you_o twelve_o who_o i_o have_v choose_v to_o be_v with_o i_o there_o be_v one_o who_o be_v a_o informer_n or_o false_a accuser_n for_o so_o the_o greek_a word_n signify_v and_o may_v possible_o here_o be_v so_o translate_v rather_o than_o devil_n who_o if_o i_o have_v own_v myself_o in_o plain_a word_n to_o have_v be_v the_o messiah_n the_o king_n of_o israel_n will_v have_v betray_v i_o and_o inform_v against_o i_o that_o he_o be_v yet_o cautious_a of_o own_v himself_o to_o his_o apostle_n positive_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n appear_v far_a from_o the_o manner_n wherein_o he_o tell_v peter_n v_o 18._o that_o he_o will_v build_v his_o church_n upon_o that_o confession_n of_o he_o that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n i_o say_v unto_o thou_o thou_o be_v cephas_n or_o a_o rock_n and_o upon_o this_o rock_n i_o will_v build_v render_v the_o forego_n word_n of_o our_o saviour_n wherein_o he_o declare_v the_o fundamental_a article_n of_o his_o church_n to_o be_v the_o believe_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n the_o more_o obscure_a and_o doubtful_a and_o less_o liable_a to_o be_v make_v use_n of_o against_o he_o but_o yet_o such_o as_o may_v afterward_o be_v understand_v and_o for_o the_o same_o reason_n he_o yet_o here_o again_o forbid_v the_o apostle_n to_o say_v that_o he_o be_v the_o messiah_n v_o 20._o from_o this_o time_n say_v the_o evangelist_n jesus_n begin_v to_o show_v to_o his_o disciple_n i._n e._n his_o apostle_n who_o be_v often_o call_v disciple_n that_o he_o must_v go_v to_o jerusalem_n and_o suffer_v many_o thing_n from_o the_o elder_n chief_a priest_n and_o scribes_z and_o be_v kill_v and_o be_v raise_v again_o the_o three_o day_n these_o though_o all_o mark_n of_o the_o messiah_n yet_o how_o little_a understand_v by_o the_o apostle_n or_o suit_v to_o their_o expectation_n of_o the_o messiah_n appear_v from_o peter_n rebuke_v he_o for_o it_o in_o the_o follow_a word_n mat._n xvi_o 22._o peter_n have_v twice_o before_o own_v he_o to_o be_v the_o messiah_n and_o yet_o he_o and_o divine_a power_n and_o miracle_n shall_v evidence_n his_o mission_n and_o work_v their_o deliverance_n and_o of_o any_o such_o extraordinary_a person_n who_o shall_v have_v the_o power_n of_o do_v miracle_n they_o have_v no_o other_o expectation_n but_o only_o of_o their_o messiah_n one_o great_a prophet_n and_o worker_n of_o miracle_n and_o only_o one_o more_o they_o expect_v who_o be_v
