and_o touch_v the_o six_o witness_n which_o faith_n be_v support_v by_o here_o we_o be_v first_o to_o note_v how_o far_o they_o be_v awry_o which_o will_v have_v some_o assurance_n and_o hope_n to_o be_v save_v and_o let_v go_v the_o way_n and_o mean_n by_o which_o they_o shall_v attain_v that_o assurance_n when_o they_o hear_v of_o a_o certainty_n of_o life_n why_o shall_v not_o we_o be_v persuade_v say_v they_o that_o god_n will_v save_v we_o as_o well_o as_o other_o and_o yet_o the_o thing_n which_o s._n john_n say_v he_o have_v write_v that_o man_n may_v know_v they_o have_v eternal_a life_n they_o neither_o know_v nor_o care_n to_o know_v they_o hold_v this_o principle_n that_o it_o be_v god_n only_o which_o do_v save_o man_n and_o upon_o this_o they_o rest_v not_o consider_v by_o what_o mean_v he_o do_v save_v they_o as_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v say_v that_o have_v ground_n it_o be_v god_n alone_o that_o feed_v all_o flesh_n he_o only_o make_v the_o corn_n to_o company_n which_o indeed_o be_v a_o very_a great_a company_n that_o have_v no_o care_n to_o harken_v what_o the_o three_o which_o bear_v record_n in_o heaven_n have_v witness_v there_o be_v a_o other_o sort_n of_o man_n which_o also_o be_v much_o awry_o touch_v the_o way_n and_o mean_n to_o salvation_n these_o do_v search_v the_o scripture_n they_o read_v they_o hear_v they_o labour_v for_o knowledge_n yea_o they_o hold_v that_o man_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o come_v to_o the_o assurance_n of_o their_o salvation_n and_o profess_v that_o they_o be_v sure_a thereof_o themselves_o if_o you_o if_o you_o can_v show_v they_o any_o thing_n which_o they_o put_v asunder_o from_o that_o which_o god_n have_v couple_v it_o unto_o they_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o amend_v their_o fault_n i_o will_v that_o be_v true_a for_o we_o shall_v not_o then_o have_v so_o many_o carnal_a gospeller_n neither_o will_v there_o be_v so_o
many_o proud_a schismatic_n but_o some_o man_n may_v say_v what_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o god_n have_v couple_v together_o which_o such_o man_n do_v put_v asunder_o i_o will_v tell_v you_o do_v saint_n john_n say_v that_o christ_n come_v both_o by_o water_n and_o blood_n not_o by_o water_n alone_o but_o by_o water_n and_o blood_n and_o yet_o they_o will_v separate_v these_o two_o they_o will_v have_v remission_n of_o their_o sin_n or_o justification_n in_o christ_n without_o sanctification_n he_o that_o have_v christ_n to_o be_v his_o righteousness_n must_v needs_o have_v he_o also_o be_v first_o as_o little_a babe_n they_o have_v indeed_o the_o life_n of_o god_n in_o they_o but_o they_o be_v marvellous_a weak_a reade_n touch_v this_o what_o s._n peter_n write_v in_o his_o first_o escape_v from_o the_o damnation_n of_o hell_n and_o touch_v their_o cry_n with_o tear_n it_o be_v not_o true_a repentance_n no_o more_o than_o that_o in_o esau_n he_o weep_v not_o for_o any_o detestation_n of_o his_o prophanesse_n bâ—â—_n because_o he_o have_v lose_v the_o blessing_n even_o so_o these_o do_v weep_v and_o cry_v out_o not_o that_o they_o loath_a and_o hate_v the_o sin_n by_o say_v he_o we_o be_v graft_v to_o the_o similitude_n of_o his_o death_n even_o so_o shall_v we_o be_v to_o the_o similitude_n of_o his_o resurrection_n thus_o it_o be_v in_o the_o natural_a plant_n as_o we_o also_o do_v know_v that_o when_o the_o science_n be_v graft_v into_o a_o stock_n and_o that_o be_v dig_v into_o the_o ground_n if_o the_o stock_n die_v they_o die_v with_o it_o and_o if_o the_o stock_n do_v grow_v and_o spring_v up_o they_o do_v grow_v and_o spring_v up_o with_o it_o even_o so_o the_o holy_a apostle_n teach_v that_o a_o man_n be_v by_o faith_n graft_v into_o christ_n as_o he_o be_v graft_v and_o do_v grow_v to_o he_o by_o a_o mystical_a and_o spiritual_a union_n to_o die_v with_o he_o that_o be_v as_o christ_n die_v to_o slay_v sin_n so_o he_o die_v to_o sin_n life_n from_o christ_n as_o from_o the_o stock_n into_o which_o he_o be_v graft_v and_o so_o do_v live_v and_o grow_v up_o by_o he_o then_o you_o see_v by_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o holy_a apostle_n that_o from_o the_o near_a conjunction_n which_o the_o faithful_a have_v with_o christ_n these_o two_o thing_n go_v inseparable_o together_o the_o die_a to_o sin_n and_o the_o rise_n to_o the_o new_a life_n even_o the_o life_n of_o righteousness_n for_o how_o shall_v a_o man_n be_v in_o christ_n and_o separate_v these_o as_o a_o man_n can_v have_v justification_n except_o he_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n and_o if_o he_o be_v in_o he_o he_o must_v needs_o with_o it_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o grace_n and_o power_n of_o sanctification_n so_o also_o if_o he_o be_v partaker_n of_o the_o one_o part_n of_o sanctification_n he_o can_v not_o be_v void_a of_o the_o other_o if_o he_o be_v dead_a and_o bury_v with_o christ_n he_o shall_v also_o rise_v with_o he_o whereby_o this_o be_v manifest_a that_o where_o holy_a life_n appear_v not_o in_o a_o man_n there_o sin_n be_v not_o slay_v for_o where_o there_o be_v a_o death_n and_o a_o burial_n of_o sin_n there_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o resurrection_n unto_o a_o new_a life_n all_o they_o then_o be_v in_o the_o bondage_n of_o their_o sin_n which_o be_v not_o by_o the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n quicken_v unto_o a_o new_a life_n do_v mingle_v so_o many_o bad_a vice_n all_o their_o life_n long_o sure_o their_o good_a deed_n be_v even_o such_o as_o the_o alm_n fast_v and_o prayer_n of_o the_o pharisy_n which_o christ_n do_v reprove_v mat._n 6._o take_v this_o for_o a_o most_o undoubted_a truth_n that_o there_o be_v no_o holy_a life_n but_o from_o the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n resurrection_n there_o be_v no_o partake_n of_o the_o true_a life_n of_o god_n and_o consequent_o not_o of_o any_o action_n of_o that_o true_a life_n but_o from_o hence_o that_o a_o man_n be_v graft_v with_o christ_n to_o the_o similitude_n of_o his_o resurrection_n and_o therefore_o all_o the_o good_a deed_n which_o man_n do_v that_o have_v not_o sin_v first_o slay_v in_o they_o proceed_v but_o of_o vainglory_n self-love_n or_o from_o other_o such_o sinister_a respect_n what_o be_v it_o when_o a_o profane_a dispiser_n of_o god_n word_n a_o horrible_a abuser_n of_o god_n name_n by_o swear_v a_o covetous_a a_o proud_a and_o a_o haughty_a person_n or_o a_o idolater_n do_v alm_n deed_n the_o poor_a indeed_o be_v relieve_v by_o it_o but_o they_o do_v not_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a before_o god_n and_o now_o touch_v the_o word_n that_o follow_v know_v this_o that_o our_o old_a man_n be_v crucify_v with_o he_o that_o the_o body_n of_o sin_n may_v be_v destroy_v that_o henceforth_o we_o shall_v not_o serve_v sin_n for_o he_o that_o be_v dead_a be_v free_v from_o sin_n this_o be_v so_o notable_a a_o matter_n touch_v our_o engraft_v into_o christ_n and_o grow_v together_o with_o he_o to_o the_o similitude_n of_o his_o death_n and_o resurrection_n the_o apostle_n do_v yet_o lay_v it_o open_v further_o and_o so_o come_v to_o that_o other_o point_n which_o i_o note_v of_o not_o return_v back_o again_o from_o man_n and_o to_o put_v on_o the_o new_a man_n it_o be_v a_o speech_n borrow_v from_o the_o put_n off_o and_o on_o of_o garment_n for_o the_o put_n off_o the_o old_a man_n be_v as_o the_o put_n off_o a_o most_o filthy_a garment_n the_o put_v on_o the_o new_a man_n be_v as_o the_o put_n on_o of_o a_o pure_a and_o clean_a garment_n then_o further_o we_o must_v note_v why_o it_o be_v call_v a_o man_n our_o old_a man_n and_o that_o be_v because_o the_o filthy_a corruption_n have_v by_o nature_n overspread_v all_o part_n of_o man_n both_z within_z and_o without_o all_o the_o power_n and_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o all_o the_o part_n of_o the_o body_n be_v defile_v so_o that_o there_o be_v nothing_o pure_a in_o man_n as_o he_o be_v in_o himself_o by_o nature_n the_o power_n and_o dominion_n of_o sin_n have_v get_v the_o mastery_n over_o all_o that_o
be_v in_o man_n for_o this_o cause_n also_o even_o as_o the_o natural_a body_n of_o man_n have_v diverse_a member_n so_o there_o be_v ascribe_v member_n to_o the_o old_a man_n as_o when_o he_o say_v mortify_v therefore_o your_o earthly_a member_n colos_n 3._o and_o then_o recon_v up_o particular_o those_o member_n of_o the_o old_a man_n even_o unclean_a vice_n as_o you_o may_v read_v in_o that_o chap._n then_o he_o say_v know_v this_o that_o our_o old_a man_n be_v crucify_v with_o he_o here_o the_o manner_n of_o the_o death_n be_v note_v by_o which_o this_o our_o old_a corruption_n of_o sin_n be_v slay_v teach_v withal_o that_o it_o be_v not_o crucify_v but_o in_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n for_o he_o say_v with_o he_o this_o our_o old_a man_n will_v retain_v his_o force_n and_o power_n until_o he_o be_v slay_v it_o be_v not_o in_o man_n to_o come_v out_o of_o the_o bondage_n of_o his_o native_a corruption_n until_o it_o be_v wound_v to_o death_n and_o nothing_o there_o be_v that_o can_v give_v that_o deadly_a stroke_n unto_o it_o but_o only_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n wherefore_o it_o be_v say_v to_o be_v crucify_v with_o he_o when_o a_o man_n be_v in_o christ_n and_o so_o the_o efficacy_n of_o christ_n death_n have_v crucify_v his_o old_a man_n yet_o there_o be_v still_o a_o body_n of_o sin_n there_o do_v remain_v that_o whole_a dead_a carcase_n though_o not_o with_o
