in_o their_o heart_n and_o write_v it_o in_o their_o inward_a part_n now_o this_o law_n will_v he_o not_o write_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o people_n nor_o give_v unto_o they_o his_o holy_a keep_v it_o though_o not_o perfect_o yet_o sincere_o than_o they_o take_v themselves_o bind_v to_o obey_v the_o law_n though_o they_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n for_o do_v we_o make_v void_a the_o law_n through_o say_v god_n forbid_v yea_o we_o establish_v the_o law_n for_o what_o need_n have_v christian_n of_o free_a justification_n by_o christ_n if_o they_o be_v not_o bind_v to_o obedience_n by_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o the_o free_a justification_n of_o man_n under_o a_o free_a covenant_n of_o grace_n do_v establish_v the_o obedience_n of_o the_o law_n otherwise_o what_o need_v they_o run_v to_o christ_n to_o save_v they_o from_o the_o curse_n of_o the_o law_n why_o do_v we_o still_o run_v to_o christ_n for_o the_o continuance_n of_o our_o justification_n but_o that_o we_o find_v ourselves_o ungodly_a creature_n against_o the_o righteous_a and_o holy_a law_n of_o god_n therefore_o if_o god_n have_v give_v man_n the_o law_n and_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o strengthen_v they_o in_o the_o obedience_n of_o it_o and_o his_o grace_n to_o save_v they_o from_o the_o curse_n of_o it_o then_o christian_n be_v to_o know_v that_o they_o be_v bind_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n they_o lie_v under_o the_o authority_n of_o it_o and_o dare_v not_o pluck_v their_o neck_n from_o under_o that_o yoke_n now_o there_o be_v two_o effect_n spring_v from_o the_o subjection_n of_o god_n people_n to_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n 1._o as_o they_o take_v themselves_o bind_v to_o the_o obedience_n of_o it_o so_o they_o believe_v and_o many_o time_n feel_v the_o fatherly_a displeasure_n of_o god_n when_o they_o transgress_v the_o law_n now_o the_o transgression_n of_o the_o law_n can_v not_o bring_v they_o under_o god_n displeasure_n unless_o they_o be_v bind_v unto_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n this_o displeasure_n david_n be_v sensible_a of_o psal_n 38.1_o 2_o 3._o etc._n etc._n there_o be_v no_o soundness_n in_o my_o flesh_n because_o of_o thy_o anger_n neither_o be_v there_o any_o rest_n in_o my_o bone_n because_o of_o my_o sin_n and_o many_o complaint_n of_o like_a nature_n do_v he_o there_o make_v which_o do_v all_o of_o they_o spring_n from_o the_o conscience_n of_o the_o disobedience_n of_o the_o law_n which_o god_n have_v frame_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o servant_n whereby_o they_o reflect_v upon_o their_o obedience_n unto_o it_o will_v supply_v comfort_n unto_o he_o but_o if_o we_o be_v dead_a unto_o the_o law_n we_o have_v no_o life_n in_o it_o nor_o by_o it_o but_o only_o in_o jesus_n christ_n from_o who_o we_o expect_v our_o comfort_n indeed_o we_o be_v trouble_v that_o we_o shall_v sin_v against_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n otherwise_o we_o look_v not_o at_o our_o obedience_n or_o disobedience_n he_o deny_v himself_o the_o blessing_n that_o the_o promise_n may_v reach_v forth_o unto_o he_o though_o he_o be_v want_v in_o obedience_n to_o this_o or_o that_o commandment_n pregnant_a for_o this_o promise_n but_o not_o upon_o this_o ground_n only_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o mercy_n and_o truth_n deliver_v i_o i_o pray_v thou_o for_o thou_o say_v i_o will_v sure_o do_v thou_o good_a ver_fw-la 11_o 12._o so_o that_o mind_n you_o though_o the_o soul_n can_v make_v use_n of_o a_o conditional_a promise_n and_o come_v to_o god_n for_o the_o blessing_n of_o it_o yet_o not_o expect_v it_o in_o the_o perform_v the_o condition_n he_o than_o look_v for_o acceptance_n from_o god_n as_o if_o the_o lord_n make_v this_o promise_n that_o he_o that_o confess_v and_o forsake_v his_o sin_n shall_v find_v mercy_n this_o man_n confess_v his_o sin_n unto_o god_n and_o forsake_v it_o and_o therefore_o he_o look_v for_o mercy_n but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o manner_n of_o god_n people_n and_o yet_o if_o they_o look_v for_o any_o mercy_n it_o be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n but_o not_o because_o of_o their_o own_o goodness_n their_o hope_n be_v in_o the_o faithfulness_n and_o free_a grace_n of_o grace_n he_o may_v make_v good_a what_o he_o have_v promise_v use_v 1_o if_o any_o therefore_o shall_v accuse_v the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o free_a grace_n of_o antinomianism_n and_o say_v it_o teach_v man_n freedom_n from_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n and_o if_o they_o commit_v any_o sin_n they_o plead_v they_o be_v not_o bind_v unto_o the_o law_n we_o see_v how_o false_a such_o a_o aspersion_n will_v be_v for_o all_o the_o people_n of_o god_n know_v that_o the_o lord_n be_v a_o avenger_n of_o every_o such_o wickedness_n there_o be_v none_o under_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o dare_v allow_v himself_o in_o any_o sin_n for_o if_o a_o man_n shall_v negligent_o commit_v any_o sin_n the_o lord_n will_v school_v he_o thorough_o and_o make_v he_o sad_o to_o apprehend_v how_o he_o have_v make_v bold_a with_o the_o treasure_n of_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n shall_v we_o continue_v in_o sin_n that_o grace_n may_v abound_v god_n forbid_v none_o that_o have_v a_o portion_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n dare_v therefore_o allow_v himself_o in_o sin_n but_o if_o through_o strength_n of_o temptation_n he_o be_v at_o any_o time_n carry_v aside_o it_o be_v his_o great_a for_o his_o daily_a bread_n from_o all_o his_o obedience_n but_o expect_v all_o goodness_n and_o blessing_n from_o the_o treasure_n of_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n use_v 3_o this_o may_v also_o serve_v to_o teach_v man_n some_o kind_n of_o discernment_n of_o their_o own_o spirit_n and_o state_n if_o you_o look_v for_o justification_n no_o long_o than_o you_o be_v obedient_a and_o fear_v eternal_a condemnation_n when_o you_o be_v disobedient_a if_o you_o be_v afraid_a of_o divorce_n from_o christ_n because_o of_o your_o sin_n or_o if_o you_o look_v for_o any_o blessing_n and_o challenge_v right_a to_o any_o promise_n by_o virtue_n of_o any_o well-doing_n of_o your_o own_o in_o such_o a_o case_n either_o thou_o be_v under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o at_o the_o least_o thou_o be_v go_v aside_o to_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o if_o ever_o the_o lord_n open_v your_o eye_n and_o bestow_v his_o free_a grace_n upon_o you_o you_o will_v know_v your_o redemption_n from_o such_o dependence_n as_o these_o be_v i_o know_v a_o christian_a man_n that_o have_v not_o be_v clear_o teach_v the_o distinct_a difference_n of_o the_o two_o covenant_n may_v be_v mislead_v into_o dangerous_a way_n that_o may_v tend_v unto_o the_o utter_a undo_n of_o his_o soul_n but_o it_o be_v a_o sin_n of_o ignorance_n and_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o leave_v his_o servant_n but_o clear_v up_o his_o truth_n and_o grace_n unto_o they_o may_v serve_v to_o teach_v the_o servant_n of_o god_n use_v 4_o that_o desire_n to_o walk_v in_o a_o way_n of_o constant_a comfort_n how_o to_o build_v their_o faith_n and_o their_o hope_n true_o if_o they_o be_v ground_v upon_o your_o own_o obedience_n or_o righteousness_n or_o
son_n and_o that_o he_o will_v adorn_v he_o with_o his_o grace_n as_o a_o bride_n of_o jesus_n christ_n thus_o while_o the_o soul_n look_v towards_o jesus_n christ_n and_o grace_n in_o he_o the_o lord_n do_v secret_o transform_v he_o into_o the_o image_n of_o christ_n by_o work_v such_o qualification_n in_o he_o and_o then_o bear_v witness_n to_o that_o sanctification_n which_o be_v wrought_v in_o his_o heart_n thereby_o enlarge_n his_o soul_n with_o strong_a consolation_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o in_o the_o same_o way_n it_o be_v that_o the_o lord_n do_v strengthen_v the_o faith_n of_o his_o people_n to_o believe_v that_o all_o those_o thing_n which_o god_n have_v promise_v be_v accomplish_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o the_o law_n fulfil_v in_o i_o so_o far_o as_o christ_n be_v in_o i_o and_o therefore_o i_o come_v unto_o god_n in_o prayer_n to_o make_v good_a those_o promise_n unto_o i_o in_o a_o right_a way_n which_o will_v have_v be_v preposterous_o apply_v before_o christ_n be_v give_v and_o this_o may_v serve_v for_o answer_v unto_o this_o five_o question_n we_o come_v now_o unto_o a_o six_o question_n quest_n 6_o if_o the_o lord_n do_v give_v himself_o first_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o his_o grace_n this_o may_v then_o be_v a_o doubt_n and_o a_o question_n in_o a_o christian_a soul_n if_o god_n give_v himself_o before_o any_o blessing_n before_o any_o promise_n in_o order_n of_o nature_n though_o he_o give_v himself_o always_o in_o a_o promise_n or_o in_o a_o word_n that_o be_v equivalent_a to_o a_o promise_n as_o cant._n 5.9_o 16._o ch_z 6.1_o if_o we_o can_v claim_v any_o blessing_n from_o god_n at_o the_o first_o in_o any_o conditional_a promise_n therefore_o not_o by_o any_o condition_n in_o ourselves_o but_o as_o we_o receive_v all_o thing_n from_o god_n so_o we_o claim_v all_o thing_n from_o god_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o so_o do_v first_o seek_v for_o he_o and_o for_o all_o thing_n in_o he_o if_o thus_o to_o what_o use_n then_o serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n which_o require_v such_o and_o such_o condition_n in_o we_o do_v we_o not_o abrogate_v the_o law_n and_o make_v it_o of_o none_o effect_n and_o root_v it_o out_o from_o have_v any_o power_n over_o christian_n and_o true_o some_o under_o pretence_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n have_v think_v it_o altogether_o bootless_a to_o bind_v christian_n unto_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o to_o look_v at_o it_o as_o any_o part_n of_o the_o direction_n of_o their_o course_n because_o this_o be_v a_o imputation_n usual_o reflect_v upon_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n let_v we_o consider_v therefore_o and_o inquire_v to_o what_o use_n serve_v the_o law_n of_o god_n if_o god_n give_v himself_o first_o unto_o his_o people_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o his_o grace_n though_o the_o lord_n give_v himself_o free_o to_o the_o soul_n answ_n and_o his_o son_n and_o all_o the_o blessing_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n without_o respect_n unto_o any_o work_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o the_o law_n be_v of_o special_a and_o notable_a use_n unto_o all_o the_o son_n of_o man_n both_o unto_o they_o which_o be_v not_o yet_o bring_v home_o unto_o god_n by_o convert_v excuse_n that_o so_o disobey_v it_o again_o the_o obedience_n of_o it_o and_o comfort_n in_o that_o obedience_n do_v harden_v the_o heart_n of_o other_o from_o jesus_n christ_n but_o what_o say_v you_o then_o unto_o man_n that_o be_v under_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o bring_v unto_o fellowship_n with_o christ_n therein_o of_o what_o use_n be_v the_o law_n of_o of_o god_n unto_o such_o his_o holy_a spirit_n to_o dwell_v in_o we_o yet_o be_v it_o needful_a that_o we_o shall_v be_v endue_v with_o all_o the_o gift_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n that_o do_v accompany-salvation_n you_o will_v say_v what_o need_n be_v there_o then_o that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n shall_v dwell_v in_o we_o or_o will_v not_o these_o carry_v a_o end_n our_o soul_n unto_o immortality_n true_o we_o something_o that_o flee_v from_o a_o man_n as_o peace_n will_v many_o time_n flee_v from_o one_o and_o a_o man_n will_v have_v much_o ado_n to_o attain_v unto_o it_o psal_n 120.6_o 7._o my_o soul_n have_v long_o dwell_v with_o he_o that_o hate_v peace_n i_o be_o for_o peace_n but_o when_o i_o speak_v they_o be_v for_o war_n it_o be_v not_o easy_o attain_v unto_o therefore_o shall_v not_o be_v suffer_v to_o depart_v but_o hold_v fast_o when_o it_o be_v enjoy_v and_o so_o for_o holiness_n the_o apostle_n will_v have_v we_o make_v a_o holy_a kind_n of_o pursuit_n after_o it_o as_o if_o it_o yet_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v we_o to_o follow_v it_o and_o pursue_v it_o and_o so_o shall_v a_o man_n be_v withdraw_v from_o the_o world_n and_o from_o the_o temptation_n and_o bad_a example_n thereof_o do_v not_o say_v what_o shall_v we_o be_v wise_a than_o our_o father_n and_o be_v not_o moderation_n best_o in_o all_o thing_n but_o consider_v what_o the_o apostle_n say_v follow_v still_o after_o it_o even_o unto_o perfection_n and_o his_o word_n do_v intimate_v the_o reason_n of_o it_o without_o which_o no_o man_n shall_v see_v the_o lord_n for_o what_o be_v holiness_n in_o its_o seek_v for_o some_o qualification_n in_o ourselves_o and_o think_v that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n appli_v some_o promise_n make_v to_o such_o a_o qualification_n and_o so_o we_o lay_v hold_v upon_o jesus_n christ_n a_o most_o unsafe_a building_n in_o my_o understanding_n for_o we_o can_v reach_v any_o gracious_a qualification_n until_o we_o have_v first_o receive_v christ_n in_o the_o promise_n all_o the_o treasure_n of_o the_o rich_a grace_n of_o christ_n i_o will_v set_v in_o order_n before_o he_o how_o he_o love_v free_o without_o any_o desert_n in_o we_o i_o will_v tell_v he_o how_o free_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n do_v invite_v man_n to_o come_v to_o he_o that_o have_v neither_o money_n nor_o money_n worth_a and_o if_o the_o lord_n take_v delight_n to_o do_v he_o good_a and_o though_o they_o do_v but_o flatter_v he_o with_o their_o lip_n yet_o he_o be_v full_a of_o compassion_n forgive_v their_o iniquity_n and_o destroy_v they_o not_o thus_o the_o lord_n may_v let_v man_n see_v that_o he_o do_v forgive_v they_o and_o no_o small_a comfort_n sometime_o do_v arise_v and_o all_o this_o from_o some_o work_n that_o they_o have_v do_v but_o when_o the_o lord_n reveal_v sinner_n as_o not_o have_v so_o much_o as_o the_o crawl_a or_o creep_v of_o any_o work_n of_o sanctification_n yea_o when_o the_o lord_n reveal_v to_o his_o people_n their_o sanctification_n the_o manifestation_n of_o his_o love_n unto_o their_o soul_n upon_o that_o point_n do_v take_v they_o off_o from_o the_o sight_n of_o their_o own_o work_n and_o move_v they_o to_o wonder_v that_o ever_o the_o lord_n shall_v manifest_v himself_o gracious_o to_o such_o as_o they_o be_v now_o for_o the_o use_v of_o this_o use_v 1_o let_v i_o apply_v it_o to_o teach_v christian_n not_o to_o be_v afraid_a of_o the_o word_n revelation_n you_o have_v hear_v of_o many_o that_o have_v attend_v to_o revelation_n that_o have_v be_v deceive_v it_o be_v true_a for_o the_o devil_n himself_o will_v transform_v himself_o into_o a_o angel_n of_o light_n he_o will_v be_v foist_v in_o delusion_n yea_o many_o time_n when_o the_o soul_n wait_v for_o the_o revelation_n of_o god_n mercy_n the_o devil_n will_v be_v apt_a to_o foist_v in_o such_o revelation_n from_o whence_o many_o delusion_n may_v grow_v but_o yet_o on_o the_o otherside_n let_v not_o man_n be_v afraid_a and_o say_v that_o we_o have_v no_o revelation_n but_o the_o word_n for_o i_o do_v believe_v and_o dare_v confident_o affirm_v that_o if_o there_o be_v no_o revelation_n but_o the_o word_n there_o will_v be_v no_o spiritual_a grace_n reveal_v to_o the_o soul_n for_o it_o be_v more_o than_o the_o letter_n of_o the_o word_n that_o be_v require_v to_o it_o not_o that_o i_o look_v for_o any_o other_o matter_n beside_o the_o word_n but_o there_o be_v need_n of_o great_a light_n than_o the_o word_n of_o itself_o be_v able_a to_o give_v for_o it_o be_v not_o all_o the_o promise_n in_o scripture_n that_o have_v at_o any_o time_n wrought_v any_o gracious_a change_n in_o any_o soul_n or_o be_v able_a to_o beget_v the_o faith_n of_o god_n elect_n true_a it_o be_v indeed_o whether_o the_o father_n son_n or_o spirit_n reveal_v any_o thing_n it_o be_v in_o and_o according_a to_o the_o word_n but_o without_o the_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n there_o be_v no_o faith_n beget_v by_o any_o promise_n the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o all_o his_o work_n may_v beget_v you_o some_o knowledge_n if_o you_o be_v not_o mistake_v in_o they_o but_o to_o beget_v the_o faith_n of_o god_n elect_v that_o may_v be_v able_a to_o stand_v against_o all_o the_o power_n of_o darkness_n and_o to_o crush_v all_o the_o temptation_n of_o that_o wicked_a one_o it_o be_v not_o all_o the_o work_n of_o god_n nor_o all_o the_o word_n of_o god_n of_o itself_o that_o be_v able_a to_o beget_v such_o faith_n if_o there_o be_v any_o it_o be_v but_o a_o historical_a faith_n a_o dead_a faith_n that_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bring_v the_o soul_n near_o to_o god_n i_o beseech_v you_o therefore_o consider_v of_o it_o as_o a_o mystery_n of_o god_n indeed_o yet_o marvellous_a plain_n in_o scripture_n as_o i_o conceive_v that_o neither_o the_o word_n of_o grace_n nor_o all_o the_o work_n of_o grace_n be_v able_a to_o clear_v up_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n unto_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o must_v do_v it_o he_o must_v reveal_v the_o grace_n of_o god_n if_o ever_o we_o see_v it_o otherwise_o it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o we_o shall_v believe_v for_o though_o we_o shall_v attain_v unto_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d fullness_n of_o knowledge_n we_o shall_v not_o attain_v unto_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d fullness_n of_o faith_n as_o for_o our_o work_n in_o justification_n the_o lord_n will_v dash_v they_o to_o piece_n and_o cast_v they_o out_o of_o his_o sight_n and_o though_o faith_n come_v by_o hear_v yet_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n in_o the_o word_n that_o make_v the_o new_a testament_n a_o lively_a letter_n otherwise_o as_o not_o the_o flesh_n of_o christ_n so_o nor_o the_o word_n of_o christ_n profit_v any_o thing_n it_o be_v the_o spirit_n that_o quicken_v therefore_o look_v for_o this_o revelation_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o show_v you_o the_o need_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o lord_n offer_v and_o present_v christ_n unto_o you_o and_o his_o draw_v your_o heart_n to_o believe_v upon_o he_o otherwise_o you_o neither_o can_v have_v any_o faith_n nor_o can_v you_o discern_v any_o gift_n of_o god_n bestow_v upon_o you_o in_o the_o second_o place_n use_v 2_o let_v this_o teach_v and_o exhort_v we_o not_o to_o look_v for_o any_o revelation_n out_o of_o the_o word_n for_o
