and_o reconcile_n of_o several_a place_n so_o the_o word_n faith_n be_v sometime_o take_v so_o narrow_o that_o salvation_n and_o justification_n be_v ascribe_v to_o it_o alone_o and_o sometime_o again_o more_o large_o to_o comprise_v other_o virtue_n in_o it_o sometime_o more_o sometime_o few_o according_a as_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n be_v extend_v or_o restrain_v i_o will_v put_v my_o law_n into_o their_o mind_n and_o write_v they_o in_o their_o heart_n here_o he_o begin_v to_o describe_v the_o new_a covenant_n q.d._n in_o the_o old_a covenant_n i_o write_v some_o of_o my_o law_n in_o table_n of_o stone_n and_o moses_n write_v other_o some_o in_o a_o book_n and_o they_o be_v put_v in_o the_o ark_n to_o be_v keep_v there_o but_o my_o new_a covenant_n shall_v not_o be_v according_a to_o that_o way_n but_o by_o it_o i_o will_v write_v my_o law_n in_o their_o heart_n and_o put_v they_o in_o their_o mind_n to_o be_v keep_v there_o they_o shall_v not_o be_v arbitrary_a and_o positive_a law_n flow_v from_o my_o sole_a will_n and_o pleasure_n whereof_o their_o heart_n can_v conceive_v no_o reason_n and_o whereof_o their_o memory_n may_v easy_o fail_v such_o as_o be_v most_o law_n in_o my_o former_a covenant_n but_o they_o shall_v be_v only_o natural_a law_n ground_v only_o upon_o natural_a honesty_n and_o upon_o the_o dictate_v of_o right_a reason_n that_o their_o mind_n may_v easy_o conceive_v they_o and_o their_o memory_n retain_v they_o and_o their_o own_o conscience_n shall_v acknowledge_v they_o to_o be_v convenient_a just_a right_a and_o good_a and_o beside_o they_o shall_v not_o have_v a_o bare_a understanding_n of_o my_o law_n to_o know_v they_o but_o a_o hearty_a affection_n to_o do_v they_o now_o because_o god_n covenant_n be_v describe_v in_o these_o word_n therefore_o hence_o it_o appear_v that_o this_o write_n of_o god_n law_n in_o man_n mind_n and_o heart_n depend_v and_o proceed_v from_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o covenant_n and_o therefore_o these_o word_n must_v be_v take_v within_o their_o force_n and_o efficacy_n and_o not_o necessary_o extend_v to_o the_o very_a effect_n of_o the_o writing_n which_o be_v always_o leave_v in_o the_o free_a power_n of_o man_n for_o this_o be_v intimate_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o follow_a word_n of_o god_n at_o the_o 12._o verse_n wherein_o god_n open_v unto_o we_o the_o cause_n manner_n or_o mean_n of_o this_o which_o contain_v wonderful_a grace_n and_o mercy_n of_o god_n offer_v to_o his_o people_n for_o by_o this_o mean_v he_o say_v it_o will_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o they_o will_v serve_v he_o and_o keep_v his_o law_n with_o so_o great_a fervency_n but_o this_o way_n god_n law_n be_v write_v upon_o none_o but_o willing_a heart_n the_o sense_n therefore_o be_v i_o will_v make_v such_o a_o covenant_n that_o shall_v have_v sufficient_a force_n and_o power_n to_o contain_v my_o people_n in_o their_o duty_n for_o to_o have_v god_n law_n write_v in_o our_o mind_n and_o heart_n be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o be_v so_o know_v so_o mindful_a and_o so_o affect_v with_o they_o that_o we_o never_o decline_v from_o they_o but_o always_o observe_v they_o with_o all_o our_o endeavour_n and_o i_o will_v be_v to_o they_o a_o god_n this_n follow_v from_o the_o former_a as_o the_o former_a clause_n opposite_a to_o this_o an_o i_o regard_v they_o not_o follow_v from_o the_o people_n be_v not_o continue_v in_o his_o covenant_n which_o in_o like_a manner_n be_v oppose_v to_o the_o write_n of_o god_n law_n in_o man_n heart_n for_o god_n to_o be_v a_o god_n unto_o we_o be_v to_o be_v our_o sovereign_a protector_n to_o defend_v we_o from_o all_o evil_a and_o to_o be_v our_o sovereign_a benefactor_n to_o accumulate_v we_o with_o all_o his_o blessing_n and_o they_o shall_v be_v to_o i_o a_o people_n either_o this_o be_v real_o the_o same_o with_o the_o former_a and_o a_o amplification_n of_o it_o consist_v of_o a_o mutual_a relation_n such_o as_o we_o have_v before_o in_o these_o word_n i_o will_v be_v to_o he_o a_o father_n and_o he_o shall_v be_v to_o i_o a_o son_n chap._n 1.5_o or_o else_o it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o the_o author_n have_v say_v and_o they_o shall_v deal_v by_o i_o as_o my_o people_n ought_v to_o do_v both_o of_o we_o shall_v perform_v our_o part_n respective_o i_o by_o protect_v and_o benefit_v they_o they_o by_o worship_v and_o serve_v i_o 11._o and_o they_o shall_v not_o teach_v every_o man_n his_o neighbour_n and_o every_o man_n his_o brother_n say_v know_v the_o lord_n they_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o admonish_v and_o exhort_v one_o another_o first_o to_o know_v my_o law_n and_o decree_n and_o after_o upon_o knowledge_n thereof_o to_o observe_v they_o but_o all_o of_o they_o shall_v be_v carry_v with_o such_o and_o their_o iniquity_n will_v i_o remember_v no_o more_o hear_v god_n open_v unto_o we_o the_o cause_n of_o his_o ardent_a affection_n towards_o we_o and_o withal_o unfold_v the_o nature_n of_o live_v holy_o be_v release_v from_o the_o guilt_n or_o bond_n of_o all_o their_o former_a sin_n not_o only_o in_o respect_n of_o temporal_a punishment_n and_o death_n but_o also_o of_o eternal_a death_n and_o withal_o eternal_a life_n be_v ordain_v for_o they_o for_o this_o remission_n of_o sin_n add_v the_o condition_n of_o repentance_n have_v this_o virtue_n and_o power_n in_o it_o to_o promise_n then_o the_o old_a this_o be_v the_o mystical_a sense_n of_o those_o word_n of_o the_o prophet_n the_o literal_a sense_n be_v that_o god_n will_v deliver_v the_o people_n of_o the_o jew_n from_o the_o captivity_n of_o babylon_n and_o will_v so_o blot_v out_o their_o former_a wickedness_n and_o foul_a sin_n that_o he_o will_v acquit_v they_o from_o all_o further_a temporal_a punishment_n for_o they_o for_o which_o so_o great_a benefit_n the_o people_n must_v needs_o be_v marveilous_o bind_v to_o god_n and_o induce_v to_o serve_v he_o constant_o for_o ever_o after_o but_o this_o sense_n be_v far_o too_o slender_a to_o answer_v full_o and_o solid_o unto_o word_n of_o so_o high_a a_o nature_n for_o at_o that_o time_n to_o speak_v proper_o god_n neither_o make_v any_o new_a covenant_n different_a from_o the_o former_a neither_o be_v
free_v we_o from_o all_o punishment_n and_o last_o make_v we_o capable_a of_o eternal_a life_n whence_o it_o so_o much_o the_o more_o appear_v how_o the_o purge_n of_o our_o conscience_n do_v certain_o follow_v upon_o the_o blood_n and_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o upon_o his_o subsequent_a offering_n in_o heaven_n purge_v your_o conscience_n from_o deâ—d_a work_n how_o much_o more_o shall_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n purge_v shall_v be_v so_o the_o future_a tense_n here_o that_o it_o carry_v the_o force_n of_o the_o time_n present_a for_o in_o such_o argument_n draw_v from_o comparison_n we_o love_v to_o use_v the_o future_a tense_n in_o the_o consequent_a member_n of_o it_o if_o this_o be_v so_o much_o more_o shall_v that_o for_o herein_o we_o respect_v not_o any_o futurity_n of_o time_n but_o a_o futurity_n of_o consequence_n and_o of_o truth_n for_o many_o time_n we_o conclude_v in_o that_o manner_n of_o thing_n past_a the_o conscience_n here_o be_v oppose_v to_o the_o flesh_n for_o as_o the_o blood_n of_o beast_n offer_v do_v purge_v the_o flesh_n so_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n offer_v through_o the_o spirit_n do_v penetrate_v unto_o the_o conscience_n and_o purge_v it_o and_o sin_n be_v call_v dead_a work_n not_o formal_o as_o if_o they_o have_v no_o life_n or_o activity_n in_o they_o but_o effective_o because_o they_o be_v deadly_a work_n that_o bring_v death_n to_o the_o sinner_n and_o of_o their_o own_o nature_n keep_v the_o sinner_n dead_a for_o ever_o these_o deadly_a work_n be_v the_o spot_n and_o blot_n that_o defile_v our_o conscience_n and_o from_o these_o our_o conscience_n be_v purge_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n not_o only_o in_o that_o we_o be_v free_v from_o the_o guilt_n of_o they_o in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n and_o consequent_o from_o all_o punishment_n of_o they_o but_o also_o in_o that_o we_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o sense_n of_o that_o guilt_n and_o from_o the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n and_o so_o our_o conscience_n be_v case_v of_o a_o grievous_a burden_n and_o it_o be_v not_o for_o nothing_o that_o the_o author_n will_v rather_o say_v purge_v our_o conscience_n than_o our_o mind_n the_o inward_a part_n of_o we_o opposite_a to_o the_o flesh_n because_o thereby_o he_o will_v show_v that_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n do_v also_o cleanse_v away_o that_o misery_n and_o torment_n of_o the_o conscience_n whereby_o man_n conscious_a of_o their_o wickedness_n do_v tremble_v and_o quake_v for_o fear_n of_o god_n judgement_n this_o be_v most_o certain_a that_o true_a and_o solid_a peace_n of_o conscience_n in_o they_o that_o have_v sin_v do_v ground_n itself_o upon_o this_o that_o god_n have_v declare_v his_o will_n they_o shall_v be_v free_a from_o all_o the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n and_o yet_o it_o may_v be_v that_o man_n free_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o god_n from_o the_o guilt_n of_o their_o sin_n may_v not_o enjoy_v a_o peaceable_a and_o quiet_a conscience_n because_o they_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o knowledge_n or_o faith_n of_o it_o therefore_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n offer_v to_o god_n through_o the_o eternal_a spirit_n do_v not_o only_o that_o though_o former_o their_o conscience_n be_v oppress_v with_o many_o crime_n yet_o than_o their_o conscience_n be_v whole_o disburden_v and_o they_o find_v no_o guiltiness_n in_o it_o and_o this_o be_v the_o scope_n which_o god_n propose_v unto_o himself_o in_o the_o death_n of_o christ_n and_o the_o thing_n follow_v thereon_o for_o he_o will_v not_o therefore_o bind_v himself_o by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n and_o establish_v a_o new_a covenant_n because_o there_o may_v be_v danger_n that_o he_o will_v not_o stand_v to_o his_o promise_n who_o be_v most_o true_a and_o faithful_a to_o himself_o but_o will_v have_v restitution_n make_v of_o the_o injury_n do_v to_o man_n so_o for_o example_n for_o theft_n the_o penalty_n be_v a_o restituon_n of_o the_o double_a triple_a or_o quadruple_a to_o be_v pay_v to_o the_o party_n thereby_o damage_v but_o beside_o this_o restitution_n the_o theft_n be_v expiate_v by_o sacrifice_n which_o be_v instead_o of_o a_o penalty_n to_o the_o most_o merciful_a god_n last_o there_o some_o thing_n total_o void_a of_o all_o true_a offence_n as_o for_o example_n if_o any_o man_n have_v touch_v a_o dead_a body_n though_o it_o be_v of_o duty_n to_o bury_v he_o which_o be_v rather_o a_o matter_n of_o piety_n then_o of_o offence_n yet_o because_o this_o and_o other_o such_o like_a case_n be_v condemn_v by_o the_o law_n of_o uncleanness_n therefore_o they_o be_v to_o be_v expiate_v either_o by_o some_o sacrifice_n or_o by_o the_o holy_a water_n of_o separation_n therefore_o all_o the_o use_n of_o those_o sacrifice_n be_v to_o expiate_v some_o light_a fault_n or_o uncleanness_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o great_a offence_n be_v punish_v with_o death_n hence_o david_n acknowledge_v his_o sin_n exiable_a by_o no_o sacrifice_n of_o beast_n
