psalm_n be_v read_v amongst_o the_o popish_a clergy_n and_o yet_o it_o bring_v their_o spirit_n to_o no_o sorrow_n nor_o feel_v of_o god_n displeasure_n wherefore_o our_o own_o experience_n teach_v that_o there_o be_v a_o inward_a and_o a_o outward_a discomfort_n in_o this_o psalm_n and_o in_o the_o rest_n of_o god_n most_o holy_a word_n the_o one_o penitent_a sinner_n feel_v and_o by_o it_o amend_v their_o life_n and_o the_o other_o some_o wicked_a man_n feel_v and_o yet_o despair_v but_o of_o the_o most_o part_n of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v not_o feel_v at_o all_o whereof_o come_v the_o contempt_n of_o god_n etc._n the_o love_n of_o ourselves_o and_o of_o the_o world_n and_o the_o loss_n of_o our_o sinful_a soul_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v let_v we_o therefore_o mark_v the_o scripture_n that_o teach_v this_o discomfort_n and_o pray_v to_o god_n that_o as_o we_o see_v it_o in_o the_o letter_n so_o we_o may_v feel_v it_o in_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o two_o manner_n of_o sin_n that_o put_v man_n to_o such_o long_a pain_n for_o it_o and_o the_o next_o how_o gracious_a a_o god_n he_o be_v that_o will_v not_o yet_o suffer_v the_o discomfort_a spirit_n to_o despair_v in_o his_o discomfort_n as_o it_o follow_v marvellous_o in_o the_o next_o verse_n 3_o when_o i_o be_o in_o heaviness_n i_o will_v think_v upon_o god_n when_o my_o heart_n be_v vex_v i_o will_v complain_v sela._n while_o asaph_n be_v thus_o trouble_v in_o spirit_n he_o remember_v the_o lord_n alone_o and_o call_v unto_o he_o for_o help_v first_o out_o of_o this_o verse_n it_o be_v to_o be_v consider_v that_o nothing_o can_v quiet_v the_o comfortless_a spirit_n but_o god_n alone_o but_o for_o as_o much_o as_o it_o seem_v by_o the_o part_n of_o this_o psalm_n that_o follow_v that_o this_o verse_n come_v in_o by_o occasion_n rather_o than_o to_o show_v a_o full_a remedy_n for_o the_o prophets_n trouble_n i_o will_v not_o write_v what_o i_o think_v thereof_o but_o defer_v the_o remedy_n against_o trouble_n to_o such_o other_o verse_n as_o follow_v because_o the_o prophet_n say_v before_o that_o his_o spirit_n can_v take_v no_o consolation_n and_o that_o a_o great_a many_o of_o contemn_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o will_v not_o read_v it_o nor_o hear_v it_o as_o the_o turk_n and_o heathen_a and_o also_o the_o common_a sort_n that_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o christ_n be_v christen_v in_o christ_n name_n and_o outward_o be_v take_v to_o be_v very_a christian_n in_o deed_n and_o yet_o they_o know_v not_o so_o much_o as_o the_o letter_n of_o christ_n law_n that_o prescribe_v they_o what_o they_o shall_v do_v and_o what_o they_o shall_v not_o do_v and_o this_o obscurity_n be_v a_o brutish_a beastly_a and_o external_a darkness_n the_o other_o be_v obscurity_n operation_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n dry_v up_o and_o clean_o lade_v out_o the_o pond_n and_o deep_a sea_n of_o mistrust_n &_o hevine_v out_o of_o the_o soul_n and_o turn_v the_o soul_n itself_o to_o the_o use_n of_o his_o own_o honour_n in_o the_o joy_n everlasting_a and_o as_o the_o water_n cover_v the_o beauty_n of_o the_o land_n so_o do_v sin_n &_o temptation_n cover_v the_o image_n and_o
