think_v all_o his_o time_n and_o all_o that_o he_o can_v do_v in_o his_o time_n but_o little_a enough_o he_o see_v and_o consider_v that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n must_v be_v take_v by_o violence_n that_o there_o must_v be_v a_o strive_v to_o enter_v in_o at_o the_o strait_a and_o right_a gate_n that_o there_o must_v be_v wrestle_v run_a fight_v for_o the_o crown_n and_o prize_n and_o when_o thou_o shall_v not_o now_o this_o way_n of_o thy_o own_o heart_n be_v clear_o wrong_v so_o now_o the_o way_n of_o thy_o own_o heart_n be_v to_o misdoubt_v and_o draw_v back_o why_o shall_v thou_o not_o suspect_v it_o and_o resist_v it_o hold_v to_o thy_o comfortable_a warrant_n thou_o fear_v the_o lord_n at_o least_o thou_o desire_v to_o fear_v his_o name_n for_o even_o to_o such_o the_o scripture_n allow_v comfort_n thou_o obeye_v the_o voice_n of_o his_o servant_n or_o be_v willing_a to_o obey_v so_o far_o as_o thou_o be_v able_a then_o obey_v this_o also_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n and_o go_v on_o in_o a_o constant_a course_n of_o fear_n and_o obedience_n and_o fear_v not_o to_o believe_v this_o be_v the_o lord_n seal_v to_o depart_v from_o iniquity_n make_v your_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a by_o well_o do_v if_o you_o do_v these_o thing_n a_o entrance_n shall_v be_v minister_v unto_o yâ—u_n a_o undant_o into_o the_o everlasting_a kingdom_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o although_o it_o be_v not_o join_v with_o sense_n all_o this_o be_v speak_v not_o that_o you_o ought_v to_o rest_v upon_o this_o degree_n of_o humiliation_n for_o as_o you_o ought_v to_o go_v on_o from_o faith_n to_o faith_n and_o from_o grace_n to_o grace_n so_o from_o humiliation_n to_o humiliation_n moreover_o the_o work_n of_o humiliation_n namely_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o sight_n and_o sense_n of_o our_o own_o guiltiness_n and_o deserve_n be_v the_o very_a groundwork_n of_o the_o work_n of_o our_o salvation_n and_o sanctification_n and_o therefore_o shall_v be_v well_o lay_v great_o labour_v for_o and_o we_o shall_v strive_v to_o have_v it_o deep_o seat_v and_o stamp_v in_o our_o heart_n and_o memory_n for_o as_o any_o may_v feel_v by_o experience_n according_a to_o the_o lively_a sense_n of_o this_o point_n go_v on_o the_o liveliness_n of_o all_o other_o point_n of_o religion_n this_o point_n be_v lively_a unto_o we_o to_o wit_n the_o sight_n and_o sense_n of_o our_o own_o deserve_n it_o make_v we_o according_o hearty_a to_o confess_v our_o sin_n and_o humble_o to_o walk_v with_o our_o god_n it_o chase_v we_o earnest_o to_o lay_v hold_n on_o the_o mean_n of_o our_o delivery_n to_o lay_v hold_n on_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n the_o promise_n the_o covenant_n etc._n etc._n it_o make_v we_o fly_v in_o to_o the_o very_a bosom_n of_o christ_n for_o shelter_n as_o to_o our_o city_n of_o refuge_n our_o horn_n of_o salvation_n and_o last_o faith_n be_v on_o foot_n and_o lively_a withal_o it_o be_v a_o whetstone_n and_o serve_v to_o quicken_v and_o set_v a_o edge_n upon_o our_o love_n and_o consequent_o upon_o our_o godly_a sorrow_n our_o zeal_n our_o obedience_n etc._n etc._n for_o then_o do_v we_o love_v most_o when_o we_o be_v most_o sensible_a how_o much_o be_v forgive_v we_o so_o great_a be_v the_o consequent_n of_o this_o point_n so_o then_o i_o say_v what_o i_o have_v speak_v for_o your_o comfort_n in_o this_o point_n be_v not_o that_o i_o will_v have_v you_o rest_v altogether_o upon_o the_o degree_n of_o humiliation_n already_o acknowledge_v by_o you_o only_o this_o i_o will_v not_o have_v it_o hide_v from_o your_o eye_n what_o you_o have_v receive_v but_o that_o you_o shall_v see_v it_o and_o acknowledge_v it_o that_o the_o lord_n may_v not_o want_v his_o thankfulness_n nor_o you_o your_o comfort_n and_o that_o satan_n may_v not_o prevail_v against_o you_o by_o that_o great_a and_o admirable_a policy_n of_o he_o as_o he_o have_v do_v with_o many_o to_o bear_v you_o back_o from_o faith_n and_o lay_v hold_n on_o the_o promise_n without_o the_o which_o there_o can_v be_v no_o comfort_n in_o a_o christian_a soul_n yea_o no_o cheerful_a no_o acceptable_a service_n to_o the_o lord_n without_o faith_n it_o be_v impossible_a to_o please_v he_o yea_o the_o heart_n want_v courage_n to_o do_v it_o either_o to_o pâ—eâ—se_v he_o to_o praise_v he_o or_o to_o honour_v he_o now_o his_o policy_n be_v this_o which_o be_v the_o doubt_n and_o hold-back_a to_o many_o obj._n i_o be_o not_o sufficient_o humble_v and_o therefore_o shall_v not_o believe_v nor_o lie_v hold_v on_o the_o promise_v for_o humiliation_n go_v before_o faith_n and_o believe_a ans_fw-fr to_o this_o i_o say_v thou_o be_v not_o indeed_o sufficient_o humble_v in_o regard_n of_o and_o in_o reference_n to_o the_o work_n of_o thy_o sanctification_n nor_o ever_o shall_v be_v so_o long_o as_o thou_o be_v here_o but_o i_o say_v the_o case_n stand_v so_o with_o thou_o as_o we_o be_v speak_v that_o be_v thou_o fear_v and_o obey_v this_o be_v well_o see_v by_o their_o conversation_n they_o use_v not_o the_o mean_n in_o private_a as_o read_v meditation_n conference_n etc._n etc._n unless_o it_o be_v a_o formal_a post_v prattle_a piece_n of_o prayer_n which_o a_o superstitious_a pagan_n possible_o dare_v not_o omit_v not_o unlike_o the_o papist_n tell_v over_o their_o bead_n and_o for_o public_a duty_n as_o little_a of_o they_o as_o possible_o they_o can_v with_o their_o honesty_n and_o be_v it_o not_o for_o regard_v to_o man_n will_v be_v as_o little_a about_o they_o as_o they_o be_v about_o the_o private_a they_o be_v scorner_n of_o those_o who_o take_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n by_o violence_n no_o violence_n use_v they_o themselves_o whereas_o the_o quicken_v be_v not_o so_o they_o not_o only_o wish_v be_v easy_o put_v off_o and_o still_v but_o if_o it_o be_v a_o serious_a desire_n a_o pinch_a necessity_n it_o will_v not_o be_v so_o soon_o quiet_v hence_o say_v the_o apostle_n as_o newborn_a babe_n desire_v the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n the_o desire_n of_o the_o godly_a be_v like_o the_o desire_n of_o a_o child_n new_o bear_v or_o in_o necessity_n not_o to_o be_v still_v without_o satisfaction_n in_o the_o point_n whereas_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o ungodly_a be_v like_o the_o desire_n of_o a_o child_n who_o not_o be_v under_o such_o pinch_a necessity_n be_v quiet_v with_o some_o one_o toy_n or_o other_o choke_v with_o some_o worldly_a pleasure_n 2._o if_o they_o be_v serious_a care_n or_o desire_n they_o will_v make_v one_o to_o do_v any_o thing_n for_o attain_v of_o salvation_n to_o abstain_v from_o all_o sort_n of_o sin_n to_o decline_v no_o sort_n of_o know_a duty_n man_n and_o brethren_n what_o shall_v we_o do_v to_o be_v save_v what_o shall_v i_o do_v say_v the_o jailer_n lord_n what_o will_v thou_o have_v i_o to_o do_v say_v paul_n what_o shall_v they_o do_v what_o will_v they_o not_o do_v to_o be_v save_v no_o sin_n will_v they_o entertain_v nor_o allow_v some_o sin_n may_v well_o give_v they_o their_o handful_n may_v lead_v they_o captive_a to_o the_o law_n of_o sin_n may_v hang_v on_o they_o iniquity_n may_v prevail_v against_o they_o psal_n 65._o but_o they_o allow_v no_o sin_n the_o evil_n they_o will_v not_o that_o they_o do_v they_o regard_v no_o iniquity_n so_o also_o they_o decline_v no_o know_a duty_n not_o certain_o know_v duty_n serious_a it_o will_v be_v that_o which_o take_v up_o the_o chief_a room_n in_o the_o thought_n heart_n affection_n of_o a_o man_n or_o a_o woman_n that_o wherewith_o one_o be_v chief_o take_v up_o with_o all_o the_o day_n long_o to_o wit_n with_o care_n to_o please_v and_o fear_n for_o displease_v and_o that_o partly_o and_o indeed_o main_o shall_v be_v in_o relation_n to_o god_n partly_o in_o a_o relation_n to_o themselves_o to_o make_v their_o call_n and_o election_n sure_a by_o well_o do_v this_o be_v the_o chief_a of_o their_o care_n all_o the_o day_n long_o this_o be_v the_o ground_n kingdom_n of_o heaven_n at_o all_o or_o not_o it_o with_o the_o righteousness_n there_o of_o or_o not_o it_o first_o with_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o there_o go_v ever_o something_o near_o their_o heart_n &_o it_o fare_v with_o they_o as_o with_o the_o young_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n though_o he_o seem_v to_o have_v great_a care_n for_o and_o desire_v after_o it_o even_o after_o salvation_n the_o application_n follow_v and_o first_o for_o comfort_n see_v first_o whereupon_o thy_o care_n and_o desire_n and_o endeavour_n do_v run_v and_o with_o what_o they_o be_v take_v up_o whether_o or_o no_o upon_o the_o salvation_n of_o thy_o own_o soul_n and_o the_o serve_v of_o god_n the_o two_o main_a end_n for_o which_o we_o be_v come_v into_o the_o world_n or_o upon_o other_o inferior_a transitory_a trifle_n whether_o upon_o the_o many_o thing_n or_o the_o one_o thing_n that_o be_v necessary_a whether_o thou_o seek_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n or_o other_o thing_n whether_o or_o no_o thou_o have_v embrace_v this_o present_a world_n or_o in_o effect_n use_v it_o as_o though_o thou_o use_v it_o not_o as_o know_v that_o the_o fashion_n thereof_o perish_v use_v
