pardon_n and_o so_o may_v very_o well_o pardon_v their_o king_n too_o because_o as_o he_o hope_v better_a from_o they_o they_o may_v hope_v for_o better_a from_o he_o the_o common_a office_n which_o charity_n require_v from_o one_o private_a christian_a to_o another_o be_v certain_o as_o well_o due_a to_o king_n subject_n must_v look_v upon_o themselves_o under_o obligation_n to_o suffer_v long_o and_o to_o be_v kind_a not_o to_o behave_v themselves_o unseemly_a not_o to_o seek_v their_o own_o not_o to_o be_v easy_o provoke_v not_o to_o think_v evil_a to_o bear_v all_o thing_n to_o believe_v all_o thing_n to_o hope_v all_o thing_n if_o these_o duty_n be_v but_o well_o discharge_v towards_o prince_n all_o the_o rest_n that_o can_v be_v true_o comprehend_v under_o the_o name_n of_o passive_a obedience_n will_v be_v much_o more_o easy_a let_v subject_n do_v these_o sincere_o and_o hearty_o and_o stop_v a_o little_a and_o think_v they_o will_v soon_o find_v that_o they_o must_v yield_v more_o and_o give_v great_a allowance_n to_o prince_n than_o to_o fellow-subject_n because_o they_o be_v high_a power_n they_o be_v ordain_v of_o god_n they_o bear_v the_o sword_n they_o be_v to_o execute_v wrath_n upon_o they_o that_o do_v evil_a and_o they_o be_v to_o give_v praise_n to_o they_o that_o do_v good_a these_o thing_n be_v of_o high_a consideration_n and_o they_o shall_v beget_v in_o the_o mind_n of_o people_n a_o great_a awe_n and_o veneration_n for_o the_o person_n of_o prince_n for_o infinite_a be_v the_o advantage_n that_o every_o single_a man_n receive_v from_o the_o administration_n of_o justice_n and_o the_o distribution_n of_o reward_n and_o punishment_n what_o if_o praise_n and_o wrath_n sometime_o mistake_v their_o way_n and_o the_o first_o fly_v to_o the_o evil_a and_o the_o latter_a to_o the_o good_a this_o be_v no_o more_o than_o what_o god_n be_v own_o thunder_n do_v as_o far_o as_o we_o can_v understand_v the_o best_a mark_n man_n may_v sometime_o miss_v and_o the_o worst_a hit_v the_o mark._n when_o we_o undertake_v to_o vindicate_v god_n providence_n we_o be_v force_v to_o bring_v in_o extrinsic_a plea_n and_o when_o we_o have_v do_v all_o we_o confess_v that_o we_o do_v not_o understand_v the_o reason_n of_o event_n but_o we_o believe_v that_o all_o be_v well_o because_o all_o come_v from_o god_n if_o we_o do_v but_o use_v a_o little_a of_o like_a submission_n when_o we_o examine_v the_o action_n of_o prince_n in_o many_o case_n we_o may_v be_v content_a to_o say_v that_o we_o do_v not_o understand_v thereby_o we_o shall_v show_v not_o only_o a_o reverence_n to_o they_o but_o a_o reverence_n to_o god_n too_o they_o be_v but_o man_n and_o may_v oft_o fail_v and_o be_v always_o fallible_a they_o do_v mistake_v but_o the_o cause_n of_o their_o mistake_v be_v most_o from_o subject_n these_o design_n and_o contrive_v one_o against_o another_o and_o misrepresent_v and_o the_o prince_n hear_v from_o they_o and_o see_v by_o they_o and_o the_o law_n provide_v punishment_n for_o those_o misrepresenter_n and_o acquit_v the_o prince_n because_o it_o seem_v impossible_a that_o one_o man_n shall_v find_v out_o such_o a_o number_n of_o honest_a and_o good_a man_n to_o supply_v all_o the_o trust_n which_o he_o be_v to_o provide_v for_o and_o never_o be_v cheat_v with_o one_o knave_n therefore_o if_o such_o a_o one_o will_v crowd_v in_o the_o prince_n be_v abuse_v and_o it_o can_v be_v help_v but_o the_o knave_n be_v to_o be_v punish_v and_o the_o prince_n excuse_v from_o blame_n beside_o the_o work_n and_o business_n of_o prince_n be_v the_o hard_a and_o most_o difficult_a that_o any_o sort_n of_o man_n upon_o earth_n have_v because_o they_o have_v so_o many_o to_o order_n and_o so_o many_o to_o defend_v so_o many_o to_o reward_v and_o so_o many_o to_o punish_v so_o many_o that_o expect_v from_o they_o and_o so_o many_o that_o must_v be_v disappoint_v in_o their_o expectation_n so_o many_o to_o deal_v withal_o that_o be_v false_a and_o base_a and_o so_o many_o that_o be_v dull_a and_o sluggish_a so_o many_o knave_n and_o so_o many_o fool_n upon_o these_o account_n and_o many_o other_o innumerable_a prince_n ought_v to_o have_v all_o favour_n and_o all_o reasonable_a allowance_n in_o miscarriage_n all_o fair_a abatement_n for_o mistake_v and_o error_n in_o the_o choice_n of_o minister_n and_o instrument_n that_o be_v to_o serve_v the_o interest_n of_o the_o commonweal_n for_o it_o be_v certain_a that_o all_o the_o law_n rule_v and_o method_n of_o conduct_v public_a affair_n which_o the_o wisdom_n of_o ancestor_n for_o thousand_o of_o year_n have_v find_v out_o will_v not_o answer_v all_o the_o behoof_n of_o a_o kingdom_n old_a rule_n be_v oft_o lay_v aside_o other_o expedient_n find_v out_o and_o new_a law_n make_v all_o the_o prudence_n and_o all_o the_o wisdom_n in_o every_o age_n when_o best_o employ_v be_v little_a enough_o to_o keep_v government_n steady_a and_o the_o people_n in_o good_a order_n to_o repress_v the_o outrage_n of_o the_o factious_a at_o home_n and_o give_v stop_v to_o the_o contrivance_n of_o ambitious_a enemy_n abroad_o prince_n therefore_o be_v to_o be_v support_v defend_v excuse_v plead_v for_o as_o long_o as_o any_o plausible_a plea_n can_v be_v make_v for_o they_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o that_o they_o be_v not_o tax_v censure_v reproach_v calumniate_v blacken_v but_o there_o be_v great_a reason_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v gentle_o treat_v kind_o deal_v withal_o the_o best_a construction_n and_o the_o fair_a interpretation_n be_v to_o be_v put_v upon_o the●●_n action_n law_n make_v the_o person_n of_o king_n sacred_a and_o their_o action_n be_v not_o to_o be_v examine_v without_o great_a respect_n and_o veneration_n if_o subject_n suffer_v not_o altogether_o according_a to_o rule_n loss_n of_o good_n of_o honour_n of_o power_n they_o may_v and_o aught_o to_o bear_v it_o patient_o as_o long_o as_o they_o see_v any_o thing_n like_o reason_n for_o it_o if_o they_o can_v but_o think_v that_o the_o good_a of_o a_o nation_n require_v it_o that_o the_o necessity_n of_o (null)_o affair_n will_v have_v it_o or_o that_o their_o sin_n against_o god_n call_v for_o it_o they_o do_v well_o to_o indulge_v themselves_o in_o all_o such_o meek_a and_o humble_v thought_n thereby_o they_o will_v real_o practice_v two_o great_a duty_n of_o fearing_n god_n and_o honour_v their_o king_n thereby_o they_o show_v their_o abhorrence_n of_o plot_n and_o conspiracy_n of_o the_o counsel_n of_o the_o factious_a and_o seditious_a that_o they_o have_v no_o part_n with_o those_o who_o will_v overturn_v kingdom_n and_o state_n prince_n and_o people_n religion_n and_o law_n to_o greaten_v themselves_o to_o advance_v project_n and_o device_n trick_n and_o humour_n of_o their_o own_o they_o show_v that_o they_o be_v good_a man_n whilst_o they_o submit_v their_o private_a concern_v to_o the_o public_a good_a and_o they_o show_v themselves_o to_o be_v good_a subject_n see_v they_o in_o reverence_n to_o their_o prince_n bear_v all_o that_o which_o in_o reason_n can_v be_v think_v tolerable_a they_o that_o do_v this_o do_v a_o great_a duty_n a_o thing_n very_o commendable_a in_o itself_o it_o be_v that_o which_o god_n require_v all_o that_o which_o the_o interest_n of_o prince_n can_v need_v and_o as_o much_o as_o the_o good_a of_o a_o kingdom_n can_v allow_v the_o excellent_a divine_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n have_v endeavour_v with_o all_o care_n and_o attention_n to_o engraft_v this_o upon_o the_o heart_n and_o mind_n of_o their_o auditor_n and_o they_o have_v have_v extraordinary_a effect_n of_o their_o labour_n for_o if_o all_o thing_n be_v fair_o consider_v since_o the_o begin_n of_o k._n james_n reign_n it_o may_v perhaps_o be_v find_v that_o no_o nation_n in_o the_o world_n do_v ever_o deport_v themselves_o with_o great_a submission_n resignation_n and_o hearty_a obedience_n towards_o a_o prince_n than_o this_o have_v do_v view_v the_o action_n of_o his_o parliament_n of_o the_o nobility_n gentry_n chief_a burgher_n reflect_v upon_o their_o fear_n and_o jealousy_n and_o let_v he_o that_o can_v challenge_v they_o for_o the_o least_o provoke_a action_n or_o neglect_v of_o their_o duty_n until_o all_o thing_n tend_v to_o confound_v he_o and_o they_o too_o about_o the_o time_n of_o the_o fatal_a desertion_n for_o what_o can_v the_o late_a king_n wish_v what_o can_v he_o desire_v will_v he_o be_v great_a and_o powerful_a formidable_a to_o enemy_n abroad_o or_o enemy_n at_o home_n he_o have_v all_o thing_n at_o pleasure_n his_o parliament_n give_v he_o money_n beyond_o example_n large_o his_o nobility_n raise_v he_o force_n the_o commonalty_n ready_o offer_v their_o life_n to_o serve_v he_o he_o have_v hand_n and_o heart_n and_o purse_n of_o all_o order_n of_o man_n at_o his_o command_n
likely_a that_o i_o be_o for_o king_n william_n and_o think_v he_o as_o true_o and_o as_o much_o king_n as_o ever_o king_n james_n be_v we_o do_v not_o stand_v in_o the_o same_o light_n we_o do_v not_o think_v of_o the_o same_o thing_n and_o so_o we_o differ_v and_o have_v we_o live_v in_o many_o other_o period_n of_o time_n it_o be_v very_o likely_a that_o we_o may_v have_v differ_v too_o have_v we_o live_v when_o saul_n be_v make_v king_n over_o israel_n i_o know_v not_o but_o he_o may_v have_v be_v against_o he_o and_o i_o for_o he_o at_o saul_n death_n it_o be_v probable_a that_o he_o may_v have_v be_v for_o saul_n son_n ishbosheth_n and_o i_o for_o david_n at_o david_n death_n he_o may_v have_v be_v for_o adonijah_n and_o i_o for_o solomon_n for_o adonijah_n appearance_n be_v very_o take_v he_o be_v the_o elder_a son_n than_o live_v of_o king_n david_n he_o be_v a_o goodly_a personage_n and_o his_o father_n darling_n 1_o king_n 1_o 6._o yet_o my_o solomon_n reign_v and_o the_o people_n obey_v with_o a_o very_a good_a conscience_n and_o that_o though_o he_o himself_o be_v somewhat_o suspicious_a of_o his_o title_n for_o he_o do_v not_o trust_v to_o his_o anoint_v by_o king_n david_n order_n but_o get_v himself_o to_o be_v make_v king_n a_o second_o time_n 1_o chron._n 29._o 22._o but_o to_o go_v on_o let_v we_o pass_v over_o the_o instance_n of_o rehoboam_n and_o jeroboam_n of_o zimri_n and_o omri_n and_o many_o other_o who_o give_v occasion_n to_o like_a difficulty_n suppose_v we_o have_v live_v in_o the_o day_n when_o jehu_n take_v possession_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o israel_n it_o be_v very_o possible_a that_o he_o may_v have_v be_v for_o joram_n or_o joram_n son_n or_o some_o of_o the_o family_n of_o ahab_n and_o it_o be_v as_o possible_a that_o i_o may_v have_v be_v for_o jehu_n he_o for_o a_o king_n according_a to_o the_o modern_a phrase_n de_fw-fr jure_fw-la and_o i_o for_o a_o king_n de_fw-fr jure_fw-la and_o de_fw-fr facto_fw-la too_o for_o he_o be_v a_o conqueror_n though_o not_o of_o the_o people_n neither_o he_o nor_o they_o ever_o think_v so_o yet_o of_o the_o king_n he_o be_v and_o so_o if_o the_o cause_n of_o the_o war_n be_v just_a his_o title_n be_v certain_o good_a some_o think_v he_o be_v a_o rebel_n i_o be_o not_o concern_v to_o dispute_v that_o point_n but_o if_o he_o be_v he_o come_v to_o the_o throne_n in_o the_o same_o way_n that_o jeroboam_n do_v who_o be_v the_o first_o beginner_n of_o that_o kingdom_n and_o so_o can_v transmit_v to_o his_o successor_n no_o more_o title_n to_o the_o regal_a dignity_n than_o he_o have_v himself_o be_v that_o as_o it_o will_v let_v my_o adversary_n be_v for_o joram_n or_o joram_n son_n and_o i_o for_o jehu_n he_o have_v the_o point_n of_o loyalty_n to_o a_o late_a king_n on_o his_o side_n and_o i_o the_o point_n of_o loyalty_n to_o my_o god_n on_o my_o side_n both_o great_a pleas._n but_o at_o such_o a_o time_n i_o seem_v at_o least_o to_o i_o to_o be_v the_o better_a because_o there_o be_v something_o in_o religion_n that_o tie_v i_o fast_o to_o my_o god_n than_o any_o thing_n else_o can_v tie_v another_o to_o his_o prince_n now_o if_o a_o ahab_n or_o a_o joram_n will_v not_o only_o be_v disloyal_a to_o their_o god_n but_o require_v i_o and_o use_v all_o the_o trick_n and_o slight_v in_o the_o world_n to_o gain_v i_o and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o people_n to_o a_o like_a disloyalty_n if_o he_o will_v dare_o and_o bold_o trample_v upon_o the_o religion_n establish_v by_o law_n if_o he_o will_v require_v absolute_a obedience_n and_o obedience_n without_o reserve_n and_o make_v his_o will_n the_o law_n and_o i_o without_o law_n or_o pretence_n to_o law_n his_o slave_n why_o must_v i_o in_o such_o a_o case_n as_o this_o be_v against_o my_o god_n and_o against_o myself_o for_o one_o who_o have_v the_o name_n of_o king_n but_o have_v throw_v away_o from_o he_o all_o that_o which_o shall_v and_o all_o that_o which_o can_v speak_v he_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o true_a kingly_a power_n over_o israel_n i_o can_v tell_v but_o some_o may_v think_v i_o in_o the_o wrong_n for_o declare_v to_o be_v for_o god_n and_o jehu_n against_o baal_n and_o joram_n but_o if_o i_o be_o i_o may_v be_v rectify_v by_o be_v inform_v that_o either_o now_o there_o be_v or_o ever_o be_v such_o a_o man_n who_o can_v persuade_v himself_o that_o any_o one_o true_a servant_n of_o the_o god_n of_o israel_n in_o those_o day_n do_v not_o hearty_o close_a in_o with_o jehu_n and_o submit_v to_o his_o government_n or_o that_o any_o worshipper_n of_o baal_n who_o be_v so_o in_o reality_n do_v do_v it_o and_o then_o there_o can_v be_v no_o grumbletonians_n in_o those_o day_n except_o the_o halter_n those_o that_o be_v betwixt_o god_n and_o baal_n and_o can_v be_v very_o indifferent_a whether_o they_o worship_v the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o thus_o we_o must_v see_v that_o the_o thing_n which_o be_v have_v be_v of_o old_a there_o be_v difficulty_n in_o human_a affair_n and_o man_n have_v have_v great_a ground_n to_o differ_v about_o the_o subject_a of_o regal_a power_n and_o so_o about_o the_o object_n of_o nonresistance_n and_o that_o not_o only_o in_o israel_n but_o as_o may_v be_v easy_o show_v among_o the_o assyrian_n persian_n roman_n britain_n english_a and_o very_o much_o in_o this_o nation_n since_o the_o norman_a conquest_n now_o this_o difficulty_n may_v be_v a_o argument_n to_o move_v man_n not_o to_o be_v overpositive_a in_o determine_v that_o damnation_n in_o the_o strict_a sense_n shall_v be_v the_o portion_n either_o of_o the_o one_o or_o the_o other_o in_o case_n he_o act_v sincere_o according_a to_o his_o best_a knowledge_n whether_o he_o stand_v up_o for_o his_o king_n or_o his_o god_n whether_o he_o stand_v to_o defend_v a_o former_a king_n in_o the_o right_n he_o have_v or_o another_o who_o take_v possession_n upon_o the_o supposition_n of_o a_o desertion_n or_o a_o conquest_n whether_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o have_v continue_v or_o to_o have_v be_v make_v a_o slave_n and_o lose_v his_o civil_a right_n and_o the_o exercise_n of_o the_o true_a religion_n or_o whether_o he_o have_v rather_o to_o have_v be_v make_v free_a and_o so_o let_v easy_o into_o his_o right_n by_o the_o assistance_n of_o another_o who_o may_v just_o do_v it_o and_o if_o he_o will_v may_v have_v leave_v they_o in_o full_a enjoyment_n of_o their_o folly_n and_o misery_n three_o as_o to_o the_o punishment_n here_o denounce_v by_o the_o word_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d or_o damnation_n whether_o nothing_o less_o can_v or_o aught_o to_o be_v understand_v by_o it_o but_o downright_a hell_n or_o eternity_n of_o torment_n here_o many_o thing_n ought_v to_o be_v well_o weigh_v before_o we_o determine_v positive_o in_o so_o great_a a_o point_n as_o 1._o that_o all_o man_n agree_v that_o there_o be_v different_a sense_n of_o this_o word_n in_o scripture_n 2._o commentator_n do_v much_o differ_v and_o contend_v about_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o it_o in_o this_o place_n and_o though_o dr._n hammond_n be_v resolute_a in_o this_o assertion_n yet_o by_o the_o multitude_n of_o objection_n which_o in_o his_o note_n he_o labour_v to_o answer_v he_o show_v that_o his_o opinion_n be_v neither_o general_n nor_o clear_a 3._o that_o as_o the_o commentator_n differ_v so_o the_o interpreter_n seem_v somewhat_o to_o differ_v too_o for_o what_o be_v in_o king_n james_n translation_n shall_v receive_v to_o themselves_o damnation_n be_v in_o the_o bishop_n bible_n translate_v in_o queen_n elizabeth_n time_n shall_v receive_v to_o themselves_o judgement_n some_o may_v think_v that_o both_o these_o word_n signify_v the_o same_o but_o if_o they_o cast_v a_o eye_n upon_o another_o text_n rom._n 5._o 16._o they_o will_v hardly_o do_v it_o for_o these_o we_o have_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d and_o that_o be_v render_v in_o the_o bishop_n translation_n for_o the_o fault_n come_v unto_o condemnation_n but_o in_o king_n james_n it_n be_v for_o the_o judgement_n be_v to_o condemnation_n fault_n or_o judgement_n here_o be_v not_o the_o same_o with_o damnation_n or_o condemnation_n but_o that_o which_o lead_v to_o it_o and_o if_o we_o look_v into_o 1_o tim._n 5._o 12._o it_o will_v be_v worthy_a of_o a_o little_a remark_n that_o though_o the_o translator_n differ_v in_o the_o former_a place_n yet_o they_o entire_o agree_v to_o render_v here_o the_o word_n 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d by_o damnation_n but_o if_o you_o look_v into_o st._n chrysostome_n and_o most_o of_o the_o old_a writer_n and_o dr._n hammond_n himself_o you_o will_v find_v that_o hell-punishment_n be_v by_o no_o mean_n to_o be_v understand_v in_o that_o text
which_o do_v not_o derive_v from_o the_o text_n but_o from_o previous_a thought_n which_o man_n have_v entertain_v concern_v slavery_n and_o freedom_n as_o they_o be_v affect_v to_o the_o thing_n so_o they_o judge_v that_o they_o find_v argument_n for_o it_o now_o i_o for_o my_o part_n be_o for_o the_o late_a interpretation_n because_o i_o have_v a_o good_a opinion_n of_o liberty_n or_o freedom_n but_o if_o another_o prefer_v slavery_n and_o think_v he_o have_v argument_n from_o that_o text_n to_o be_v a_o slave_n let_v he_o be_v a_o slave_n and_o let_v he_o enjoy_v his_o opinion_n of_o the_o thing_n and_o of_o the_o text_n too_o i_o shall_v not_o hinder_v he_o but_o i_o must_v say_v it_o will_v be_v a_o undecency_n in_o he_o to_o call_v my_o understanding_n into_o question_n for_o differ_v from_o he_o because_o i_o have_v the_o high_a probability_n the_o concurrence_n of_o the_o wise_a and_o the_o best_a in_o all_o age_n on_o my_o side_n but_o yet_o this_o may_v be_v do_v because_o when_o man_n leave_v common_a sense_n and_o seek_v for_o extraordinary_a notion_n they_o usual_o grow_v froward_a and_o troublesome_a tacitus_n remark_n in_o the_o 14_o of_o his_o annal_n that_o some_o who_o have_v get_v into_o their_o head_n that_o flight_n of_o the_o stoic_n that_o a_o wise_a man_n be_v a_o king_n present_o begin_v to_o be_v busy_a and_o meddle_v and_o very_o scornful_a of_o other_o ea_z male_a intellecta_fw-la arrogantes_fw-la faciebat_fw-la &_o turbidos_fw-la it_o be_v pity_n that_o such_o little_a thing_n shall_v give_v disturbance_n to_o kingdom_n and_o nation_n but_o it_o can_v be_v help_v for_o it_o be_v opinion_n that_o govern_v man_n and_o it_o be_v not_o what_o be_v great_a but_o what_o be_v think_v to_o be_v great_a that_o stir_v they_o a_o little_a before_o the_o fatal_a overthrow_n of_o jerusalem_n there_o be_v many_o warm_a person_n in_o it_o who_o have_v their_o head_n full_a of_o fancy_n and_o particular_a notion_n and_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o they_o they_o can_v run_v upon_o the_o most_o desperate_a erterprise_n but_o they_o will_v not_o know_v the_o thing_n that_o belong_v to_o their_o peace_n pliny_n have_v a_o say_n that_o have_v much_o puzzle_v physician_n and_o critic_n he_o say_v that_o man_n die_v of_o sapience_n or_o wisdom_n per_fw-la sapientiam_fw-la mori_n the_o physician_n find_v no_o such_o distemper_n in_o their_o book_n but_o guess_v that_o he_o mean_v a_o frenzy_n something_o there_o be_v that_o get_v into_o man_n head_n which_o seem_v to_o they_o that_o have_v it_o to_o be_v high_a wisdom_n but_o to_o other_o a_o mere_a frenzy_n which_o be_v extreme_o mortal_a and_o pernicious_a solomon_n so_o long_o ago_o advise_v proper_o against_o it_o and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v wish_v that_o his_o council_n may_v yet_o be_v take_v he_o say_v ecclesiaste_v 7._o 16._o be_v not_o righteous_a overmuch_o neither_o make_v thyself_o overwise_a why_o shall_v thou_o destroy_v thyself_o it_o be_v hard_o to_o think_v that_o man_n shall_v be_v either_o over-righteous_a or_o over-wise_a but_o if_o man_n will_v affect_v impracticable_a notion_n without_o sufficient_a ground_n and_o look_v upon_o they_o as_o their_o righteousness_n or_o their_o wisdom_n and_o that_o mere_o because_o these_o be_v against_o themselves_o and_o destructive_a of_o themselves_o they_o may_v well_o enough_o be_v say_v to_o be_v over-righteous_a and_o over-wise_a three_o the_o three_o thing_n to_o be_v speak_v of_o be_v the_o origination_n of_o power_n and_o this_o be_v a_o subject_a which_o i_o can_v willing_o omit_v because_o i_o judge_v it_o for_o the_o interest_n of_o a_o nation_n both_o king_n and_o people_n that_o the_o people_n have_v as_o high_a and_o as_o reverend_a thought_n as_o they_o can_v both_o of_o their_o king_n and_o his_o power_n let_v they_o think_v that_o they_o have_v their_o king_n from_o god_n and_o that_o he_o have_v his_o power_n from_o god_n and_o let_v he_o think_v so_o too_o all_o this_o tend_v to_o good_a because_o it_o will_v make_v he_o in_o the_o exercise_n of_o his_o power_n to_o act_n in_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o by_o virtue_n of_o that_o fear_n to_o abstain_v from_o wrong_n and_o to_o do_v justice_n and_o it_o will_v awe_v the_o people_n with_o a_o dread_n of_o their_o king_n majesty_n and_o of_o their_o god_n and_o so_o keep_v they_o from_o be_v froward_a and_o peevish_a mutinous_a and_o rebellious_a while_o they_o believe_v themselves_o in_o such_o action_n not_o only_o to_o be_v offender_n against_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n but_o sinner_n against_o the_o will_n and_o pleasure_n of_o god_n upon_o this_o account_n i_o can_v willing_o chime_v in_o with_o the_o compiler_n of_o this_o history_n and_o with_o he_o fault_n hobbs_n and_o milton_n and_o doleman_n or_o parson_n and_o with_o he_o declare_v against_o those_o doctrine_n that_o power_n be_v original_o in_o the_o body_n of_o the_o people_n and_o that_o the_o foundation_n of_o all_o government_n be_v lay_v in_o compact_n as_o he_o say_v in_o his_o preface_n and_o i_o can_v say_v with_o he_o in_o his_o conclusion_n pag._n 132._o that_o power_n be_v only_o from_o god_n these_o may_v be_v allow_v he_o or_o let_v pass_v without_o altercation_n so_o that_o man_n use_v they_o according_a to_o their_o natural_a tendency_n for_o the_o support_n of_o righteousness_n justice_n and_o goodness_n but_o if_o these_o be_v use_v to_o dazzle_v and_o amuse_v people_n that_o other_o may_v have_v advantage_n to_o rob_v and_o spoil_v they_o if_o by_o virtue_n of_o these_o a_o passage_n be_v make_v to_o let_v in_o upon_o a_o nation_n a_o lawless_a power_n wrong_v injury_n and_o tyranny_n if_o law_n religion_n common_a sense_n must_v all_o be_v lay_v aside_o and_o one_o of_o the_o best_a frame_a polity_n in_o the_o world_n must_v be_v subvert_v by_o ill_a consequence_n and_o force_v plea_n deduce_v from_o these_o doctrine_n we_o may_v certain_o have_v liberty_n to_o examine_v both_o the_o principle_n and_o the_o deduction_n we_o may_v consider_v what_o the_o one_o will_v bear_v and_o how_o the_o other_o be_v lay_v upon_o it_o if_o we_o must_v be_v slave_n it_o be_v all_o one_o to_o we_o whether_o we_o be_v make_v such_o in_o the_o way_n of_o hobbs_n or_o of_o this_o historian_n it_o be_v all_o one_o whether_o a_o king_n have_v his_o power_n from_o god_n or_o from_o the_o people_n if_o he_o must_v be_v absolute_o absolute_a and_o be_v obey_v without_o reserve_n without_o consideration_n of_o law_n and_o right_n and_o if_o a_o king_n must_v be_v a_o monster_n altogether_o arbitrary_a mere_a will_n act_v at_o pleasure_n without_o bound_n or_o limit_n he_o may_v as_o well_o be_v make_v such_o by_o the_o people_n as_o by_o god_n and_o of_o the_o two_o the_o people_n be_v the_o more_o likely_a to_o make_v the_o monster_n because_o god_n be_v always_o wise_a and_o good_a and_o all_o his_o action_n be_v just_a and_o right_o and_o therefore_o as_o there_o be_v more_o of_o god_n in_o power_n there_o shall_v be_v more_o of_o goodness_n and_o righteousness_n in_o the_o exercise_n of_o it_o it_o seem_v therefore_o a_o design_n ill_o lay_v to_o challenge_v for_o prince_n a_o infinite_a power_n of_o do_v what_o they_o will_v without_o check_n or_o control_v from_o national_a constitution_n because_o their_o power_n come_v from_o god_n or_o to_o be_v zealous_a to_o fetch_v all_o the_o power_n of_o prince_n from_o god_n for_o this_o purpose_n that_o they_o may_v do_v evil_a thing_n secure_o that_o they_o may_v do_v what_o they_o please_v right_a or_o wrong_n without_o danger_n or_o hazard_n without_o stop_n or_o let_v if_o we_o believe_v the_o apostle_n rom._n 13._o the_o power_n that_o come_v from_o god_n and_o be_v ordain_v of_o god_n be_v not_o they_o can_v be_v a_o terror_n to_o good_a work_n but_o according_a to_o this_o way_n of_o discourse_v they_o be_v as_o terrible_a to_o the_o good_a as_o to_o the_o bad_a and_o that_o for_o this_o reason_n because_o they_o come_v from_o god_n have_v prince_n that_o singular_a excellency_n of_o nature_n which_o god_n have_v that_o they_o neither_o will_v nor_o can_v do_v evil_a they_o may_v then_o be_v allow_v to_o act_v as_o he_o do_v according_a to_o the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o their_o will_n without_o control_v but_o if_o we_o assert_v that_o they_o may_v do_v evil_a they_o may_v oppress_v rob_v spoil_n kill_v murder_n and_o do_v all_o the_o base_a thing_n which_o any_o other_o man_n can_v do_v for_o which_o they_o have_v no_o licence_n or_o power_n from_o god_n why_o may_v they_o not_o then_o have_v some_o stop_n from_o human_a constitution_n to_o let_v and_o hinder_v they_o from_o do_v those_o thing_n which_o god_n never_o give_v they_o power_n to_o do_v and_o to_o keep_v they_o in_o those_o method_n of_o act_v which_o god_n
