have_v all_o manner_n of_o mischief_n enter_v into_o our_o land_n and_o prevail_v upon_o all_o estate_n civil_a ecclesiastical_a and_o all_o i_o will_v add_v but_o one_o word_n more_o weknow_v but_o look_v out_o into_o all_o the_o quarter_n and_o corner_n of_o his_o kingdom_n and_o find_v eye_n among_o they_o make_v every_o where_o good_a people_n his_o eye_n to_o see_v for_o he_o and_o to_o inform_v he_o he_o will_v know_v and_o have_v in_o every_o town_n man_n of_o merit_n and_o of_o service_n i_o mean_v man_n of_o conscience_n also_o as_o well_o as_o of_o science_n or_o skill_n he_o his_o king_n command_v good_a thing_n and_o when_o and_o as_o he_o shall_v nay_o i_o will_v say_v more_o the_o vassal_n never_o better_a serve_v his_o lord_n than_o when_o he_o faithful_o serve_v he_o that_o be_v king_n to_o both_o and_o the_o reason_n thereof_o be_v plain_a not_o only_o the_o vassal_n but_o the_o lord_n himself_o and_o all_o owe_v the_o king_n all_o manner_n of_o homage_n and_o master_n sight_n and_o eye_n alone_o for_o if_o it_o be_v so_o the_o back_n shall_v no_o soon_o be_v turn_v but_o the_o hand_n will_v wax_v idle_a and_o the_o heart_n will_v be_v averse_a from_o the_o business_n no_o no_o they_o have_v always_o god_n before_o their_o eye_n and_o they_o know_v he_o to_o be_v the_o beholder_n of_o their_o fact_n more_o than_o of_o their_o face_n and_o the_o very_a searcher_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o reins_n from_o he_o they_o look_v for_o their_o wage_n and_o hire_n from_o he_o yea_o from_o he_o alone_o they_o expect_v grace_n and_o favour_n be_v certain_o natural_o communicate_v and_o distribute_v itself_o as_o a_o grace_n that_o can_v contain_v itself_o within_o itself_o but_o needs_o must_v break_v forth_o for_o the_o glory_n of_o he_o that_o give_v it_o and_o the_o good_a of_o they_o who_o be_v partaker_n thereof_o wherefore_o these_o royal_a and_o kingly_a virtue_n must_v send_v out_o their_o bough_n and_o branch_n even_o unto_o the_o border_n of_o the_o kingdom_n and_o country_n so_o as_o there_o may_v not_o be_v any_o though_o never_o so_o mean_a but_o in_o some_o measure_n more_o or_o less_o they_o shall_v partake_v thereof_o one_o of_o they_o spread_v out_o itself_o in_o the_o sinew_n that_o so_o it_o may_v preserve_v the_o people_n and_o contain_v they_o in_o their_o duty_n the_o other_o spread_v out_o itself_o in_o the_o vein_n indeed_o to_o be_v man_n of_o godliness_n and_o integrity_n there_o be_v another_o mercy_n there_o be_v another_o justice_n due_a that_o be_v to_o show_v unto_o they_o christian_a countenance_n and_o particular_a or_o special_a favour_n to_o cherish_v they_o to_o acknowledge_v they_o for_o such_o &_o to_o honour_n in_o they_o that_o grace_n or_o grace_n which_o god_n have_v vouchsafe_v unto_o they_o to_o honour_v he_o withal_o that_o so_o he_o may_v apparent_o distinguish_v they_o from_o other_o that_o indeed_o be_v not_o such_o every_o one_o shall_v learn_v to_o put_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o the_o precious_a and_o the_o vile_a â—_o psal_n 15._o â—_o and_o to_o make_v much_o of_o they_o that_o fear_v the_o lord_n therefore_o the_o prince_n much_o more_o shall_v do_v it_o because_o he_o shall_v be_v of_o a_o more_o discern_a spirit_n than_o other_o man_n and_o it_o be_v 〈◊〉_d piece_n of_o his_o duty_n to_o observe_v and_o make_v this_o difference_n and_o yet_o we_o rather_o indeed_o against_o virtue_n to_o streng_n they_o vice_n vice_n i_o say_v which_o be_v but_o of_o too_o much_o account_n among_o man_n yea_o which_o be_v but_o too_o much_o in_o every_o one_o of_o we_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o secret_a intelligence_n which_o it_o have_v with_o our_o corrupt_a nature_n and_o so_o by_o this_o we_o see_v second_o step_n of_o god_n goodness_n towards_o man_n which_o as_o it_o appear_v in_o this_o that_o he_o make_v they_o his_o child_n his_o dear_o belove_a oves_fw-la his_o heir_n and_o reserve_v for_o they_o his_o treasure_n and_o distribute_v free_o his_o grace_n unto_o they_o so_o do_v it_o more_o particular_o appear_v as_o in_o respect_n of_o king_n who_o though_o by_o nature_n they_o may_v be_v bear_v to_o kingdom_n or_o by_o man_n be_v choose_v thereto_o yet_o never_o can_v have_v grace_n to_o be_v king_n indeed_o but_o from_o he_o 1.17_o i_o be_o 1.17_o from_o who_o alone_o descend_v every_o good_a gift_n &_o perfect_a grace_n and_o who_o can_v never_o fail_v they_o indeed_o or_o ever_o will_v except_o it_o be_v through_o injustice_n neglect_v of_o duty_n or_o other_o some_o grecuous_a transgression_n see_v it_o have_v please_v the_o sovereign_a lord_n
and_o fly_v away_o yea_o and_o this_o shall_v they_o the_o soon_o effect_v if_o in_o their_o deed_n if_o in_o their_o word_n they_o detest_v evil_a and_o love_v good_a and_o if_o they_o they_o themselves_o carry_v in_o their_o face_n and_o forehead_n the_o mark_n and_o impression_n of_o virtue_n justice_n mercy_n and_o such_o like_a for_o darkness_n without_o doubt_n shall_v and_o must_v fly_v before_o light_n and_o even_o so_o evil_a which_o be_v nothing_o but_o a_o privation_n of_o good_a as_o darkness_n be_v of_o light_n if_o goodness_n once_o appear_v &_o be_v establish_v can_v hold_v his_o place_n nor_o continue_v or_o be_v at_o all_o where_o goodness_n once_o enter_v but_o if_o it_o so_o fall_v out_o thet_z a_o prince_n come_v to_o government_n and_o state_n in_o a_o age_n so_o corrupt_a as_o we_o be_v and_o he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o root_v out_o evil_a so_o soon_o as_o he_o will_v or_o as_o he_o shall_v this_o special_o at_o the_o least_o he_o must_v advise_v and_o look_v to_o that_o he_o suffer_v it_o not_o to_o fall_v or_o drop_v upon_o the_o more_o noble_a part_n of_o the_o body_n for_o if_o they_o be_v once_o take_v the_o other_o be_v overtake_v therewith_o no_o part_n shall_v be_v free_a but_o rather_o that_o he_o send_v it_o pack_v to_o the_o base_a and_o further_a part_n of_o the_o commonweal_n even_o as_o nature_n itself_o in_o a_o natural_a and_o humane_a body_n teach_v we_o expel_v that_o which_o will_v annoy_v or_o hurt_v the_o vital_n as_o we_o say_v to_o the_o further_a part_n that_o so_o in_o that_o care_n and_o wisdom_n the_o prince_n may_v provide_v that_o it_o be_v no_o part_n either_o of_o his_o sense_n or_o of_o his_o life_n and_o least_o of_o all_o certain_o of_o his_o spirit_n and_o of_o his_o soul_n in_o a_o word_n this_o be_v my_o meaning_n the_o prince_n shall_v not_o admit_v such_o corruption_n neither_o to_o his_o presence_n nor_o to_o his_o person_n nor_o to_o his_o practice_n and_o affair_n nor_o commit_v unto_o it_o his_o life_n his_o council_n or_o estate_n for_o if_o he_o do_v so_o he_o hazard_v all_o his_o body_n his_o soul_n his_o sceptre_n his_o kingdom_n his_o subject_n etc._n etc._n and_o since_o this_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o naughtiness_n and_o sin_n that_o if_o it_o may_v be_v but_o permit_v to_o press_v into_o presence_n it_o will_v conceive_v hope_n of_o further_a access_n and_o entertainment_n mighty_a man_n must_v stop_v the_o passage_n of_o it_o and_o shut_v their_o palace_n gate_n the_o eye_n and_o ear_n of_o their_o head_n the_o power_n of_o their_o hand_n the_o passion_n and_o affection_n of_o their_o heart_n and_o whatsoever_o else_o against_o it_o but_o this_o be_v a_o very_a great_a work_n indeed_o for_o a_o prince_n or_o king_n i_o confess_v it_o but_o the_o person_n be_v great_a that_o be_v to_o do_v it_o and_o he_o have_v many_o more_o mean_n to_o effect_v it_o than_o mean_a man_n and_o therefore_o teach_v his_o finger_n to_o fight_v 144.1_o frame_v my_o own_o life_n well_o nor_o by_o my_o own_o example_n to_o amend_v my_o people_n for_o delay_n be_v dangerous_a special_o of_o good_a thing_n and_o occasion_n as_o we_o say_v be_v bald_a behind_o and_o therefore_o good_a take_v hold_n of_o her_o forelocke_n beside_o i_o have_v no_o charter_n or_o patent_n of_o my_o life_n and_o therefore_o i_o will_v not_o defer_v the_o do_n of_o this_o good_a neither_o will_v i_o for_o a_o long_a time_n or_o many_o year_n delay_v the_o reformation_n of_o my_o estate_n but_o as_o much_o as_o in_o i_o lie_v labour_v to_o bring_v it_o to_o a_o innovatian_n be_v dangerous_a fear_v of_o the_o people_n doubt_n and_o diffidence_n concern_v the_o action_n itself_o and_o diverse_a such_o like_a but_o i_o will_v cast_v all_o these_o behind_o i_o and_o make_v no_o account_n thereof_o for_o the_o first_o be_v but_o a_o principle_n of_o policy_n and_o that_o be_v as_o uncertain_a as_o man_n brain_n that_o breed_v it_o and_o for_o the_o second_o it_o have_v small_a force_n in_o it_o and_o it_o may_v be_v special_o stand_v for_o god_n that_o when_o i_o fear_v most_o i_o shall_v be_v most_o favour_v and_o followeâ—_n for_o he_o have_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n in_o his_o hand_n to_o turn_v they_o at_o his_o pleasure_n and_o as_o for_o the_o three_o concern_v the_o action_n itself_o see_v my_o own_o hart_n tell_v i_o it_o be_v good_a and_o i_o be_o persuade_v thereof_o by_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o word_n why_o shall_v i_o lay_v or_o suffer_v to_o lie_v stumble_v block_n in_o my_o way_n nay_o rather_o through_o god_n goodness_n and_o strength_n i_o will_v rise_v up_o so_o much_o the_o more_o early_o and_o put_v my_o hand_n to_o that_o business_n whatsoever_o may_v come_v of_o it_o this_o be_v my_o full_a and_o flat_a resolution_n and_o since_o the_o lord_n by_o nature_n do_v teach_v it_o i_o i_o will_v through_o his_o assistance_n and_o grace_n perform_v it_o do_v not_o the_o sun_n as_o soon_o as_o it_o rise_v yea_o before_o it_o rise_v drive_v and_o chase_v away_o darkness_n and_o then_o why_o shall_v not_o i_o so_o soon_o as_o i_o ascend_v to_o the_o sceptre_n and_o throne_n and_o come_v to_o the_o crown_n perform_v mean_v that_o which_o he_o practise_v himself_o and_o cause_v to_o be_v practise_v by_o other_o that_o be_v about_o he_o in_o his_o court_n at_o home_n abroad_o and_o elsewhere_o but_o it_o be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o a_o king_n that_o as_o in_o regard_n of_o himself_o he_o be_v just_a &_o merciful_a neither_o yet_o that_o his_o house_n be_v open_a to_o good_a and_o virtuous_a people_n and_o shut_v against_o the_o wicked_a these_o be_v good_a thing_n i_o confess_v and_o i_o will_v to_o god_n we_o may_v see_v these_o beginning_n of_o goodness_n that_o so_o in_o they_o we_o may_v have_v a_o assure_a testimony_n of_o continuance_n and_o increase_n but_o yet_o they_o be_v not_o all_o neither_o must_v prince_n stay_v there_o but_o proceed_v further_o indeed_o for_o though_o a_o prince_n example_n be_v of_o very_o great_a force_n and_o power_n and_o that_o be_v it_o that_o we_o say_v common_o all_o man_n frame_v themselves_o to_o the_o king_n example_n yet_o that_o be_v not_o all_o
