A88697 Lanseter's lance, for Edwards'es gangrene: or, A ripping up, and laying open some rotten, putrified, corrupt, stinking matter in Mr. Thomas Edwards his Gangren, or book intituled, The second part of Gangrena. Wherein, amongst others, he hath abused and belied Mr. John Lanceter, calling him pedler, and saying, that he opened the whole book of Ezra, at a privat meeting in stead of opening his pack, which is proved false, and other things also. So that in consideration of the particulars, judicious men may well conceive the cause of his Gangren to be his blind ignorance of the truth, and his mad malice against the wel-affected conscientious people. Published according to order. Lanseter, John. 1646 (1646) Wing L425B; Thomason E354_17; ESTC R201101 16,213 24

according_a as_o i_o propound_v before_o i_o begin_v so_o i_o do_v after_o i_o have_v do_v that_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n to_o be_v object_v against_o there_o be_v free_a liberty_n for_o any_o that_o he_o have_v indeed_o speak_v of_o thou_o meet_v to_o some_o of_o his_o friend_n but_o he_o never_o say_v to_o any_o man_n that_o i_o open_v the_o whole_a book_n of_o ezra_n or_o that_o he_o the_o man_n malice_n to_o one_o who_o be_v know_v to_o myself_o and_o to_o a_o great_a part_n of_o the_o kingdom_n to_o be_v a_o man_n of_o worth_n a_o man_n of_o great_a part_n a_o man_n who_o have_v hold_v out_o more_o light_n to_o other_o than_o many_o other_o have_v do_v a_o man_n who_o have_v give_v clear_a testimony_n of_o his_o godliness_n than_o mr._n edward_n have_v do_v as_o far_o as_o i_o and_o many_o more_o can_v see_v for_o the_o present_a yet_o see_v how_o mr._n edward_n be_v please_v to_o use_v he_o even_o worse_o than_o he_o ought_v to_o use_v a_o heathen_a see_v how_o he_o scoff_n at_o his_o person_n which_o i_o suppose_v all_o that_o know_v mr._n goodwin_n and_o mr._n edward_n will_v prefer_v mr._n goodwin_n to_o be_v the_o comely_a man_n 2._o observe_v how_o bold_a mr._n edward_n be_v to_o take_v upon_o himself_o to_o sit_v in_o the_o room_n of_o god_n to_o judge_v the_o heart_n of_o mr._n goodwin_n which_o none_o can_v nor_o aught_o to_o do_v but_o god_n alone_o 3._o i_o be_o confident_a say_v he_o that_o among_o all_o the_o presbyterian_a minister_n and_o chief_a member_n who_o endeavour_v and_o act_v for_o that_o way_n since_o presbyterian_o the_o sectary_n can_v instance_n in_o one_o man_n like_o to_o hundred_o and_o thousand_o of_o their_o sectary_n either_o for_o error_n in_o judgement_n or_o looseness_n in_o life_n 1._o observe_v his_o ungrounded_a confidence_n in_o his_o own_o party_n as_o if_o they_o be_v all_o without_o error_n and_o holy_a in_o their_o life_n and_o conversation_n when_o as_o i_o on_o my_o own_o knowledge_n and_o many_o more_o do_v know_v several_a minister_n that_o be_v very_o loose_a in_o their_o life_n and_o altogether_o unfit_a for_o that_o work_n and_o yet_o hold_v strong_o to_o the_o presbyterian_a way_n and_o i_o suppose_v it_o be_v easy_a to_o find_v out_o in_o suffolk_n and_o norfolk_n another_o century_n of_o scandalous_a minister_n 2._o observe_v how_o he_o speak_v nothing_o by_o his_o own_o that_o cast_v the_o scale_n in_o this_o man_n judgement_n not_o the_o error_n themselves_o but_o independency_n or_o presbyterianisme_n if_o a_o independent_a edward_n will_v sound_v his_o trumpet_n against_o he_o though_o his_o error_n be_v never_o so_o small_a if_o a_o presbyterian_a than_o silence_n all_o be_v bear_v withal_o mark_v what_o a_o fit_a man_n this_o be_v to_o be_v a_o judge_n mr._n edward_n say_v thus_o it_o be_v much_o against_o my_o genius_n and_o temper_n to_o do_v it_o namely_o to_o bring_v man_n name_n upon_o the_o stage_n for_o natural_o say_v he_o i_o do_v not_o love_v to_o offend_v any_o or_o to_o contend_v with_o any_o man_n but_o to_o comply_v and_o please_v all_o now_o mark_v the_o man_n in_o his_o carriage_n and_o first_o observe_v whether_o there_o be_v any_o resemblance_n in_o his_o life_n and_o conversation_n that_o he_o be_v of_o paul_n temper_n to_o become_v all_o unto_o all_o that_o he_o may_v gain_v some_o to_o be_v weak_a with_o the_o weak_a etc._n etc._n or_o whether_o it_o be_v not_o more_o clear_a that_o the_o man_n be_v of_o a_o very_a bad_a temper_n and_o compli_v with_o man_n for_o his_o own_o end_n for_o profit_n and_o preferment_n 2._o observe_v and_o see_v whether_o he_o do_v not_o plain_o lie_v in_o this_o expression_n for_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o he_o use_v no_o mean_n to_o comply_v with_o the_o independent_a party_n but_o all_o mean_n to_o make_v they_o odious_a to_o the_o parliament_n and_o to_o the_o world_n mr._n edwares_o in_o the_o 20_o page_n a_o true_a copy_n of_o a_o letter_n write_v to_o i_o by_o a_o
