man_n will_v stand_v amaze_v but_o seldom_o shall_v you_o find_v a_o man_n that_o be_v ravish_v with_o joy_n in_o this_o that_o he_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n as_o moses_n do_v but_o his_o practice_n must_v be_v a_o precedent_n for_o we_o to_o follow_v we_o must_v learn_v to_o have_v more_o joy_n in_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n then_o to_o be_v heir_n of_o any_o worldly_a kingdom_n and_o to_o take_v more_o delight_n in_o the_o grace_n of_o adoption_n through_o jesus_n christ_n then_o in_o the_o sonship_n of_o any_o earthly_a prince_n it_o be_v a_o great_a prerogative_n to_o be_v heir_n to_o a_o king_n or_o emperor_n but_o yet_o to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n go_v far_o beyond_o it_o even_o above_o comparison_n for_o the_o son_n of_o the_o great_a potentate_n may_v be_v the_o child_n of_o wrath_n but_o the_o child_n of_o god_n by_o grace_n have_v christ_n jesus_n to_o be_v his_o elder_a brother_n with_o who_o he_o be_v fellow_n heir_n in_o heaven_n he_o have_v the_o holy_a ghost_n also_o for_o his_o comforter_n and_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n for_o his_o everlasting_a inheritance_n and_o therefore_o we_o must_v learn_v of_o moses_n from_o the_o bottom_n of_o our_o heart_n to_o prefer_v this_o one_o thing_n to_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n before_o all_o earthly_a thing_n either_o pleasure_n riches_n or_o any_o other_o prerogative_n whatsoever_o now_o more_o particular_o in_o this_o fact_n of_o moses_n note_v two_o circumstance_n 1._o the_o manner_n how_o 2._o the_o time_n when_o he_o refuse_v to_o be_v call_v the_o son_n of_o pharaoh_n daughter_n for_o the_o first_o his_o refusal_n be_v not_o in_o word_n but_o in_o deed_n for_o if_o we_o read_v the_o whole_a history_n of_o moses_n we_o shall_v not_o find_v that_o either_o he_o speak_v to_o pharaoh_n or_o to_o his_o daughter_n or_o to_o any_o other_o to_o this_o effect_n that_o he_o will_v not_o be_v her_o heir_n nor_o call_v her_o son_n but_o we_o find_v that_o he_o do_v it_o in_o deed_n for_o when_o he_o come_v to_o age_n he_o leave_v the_o court_n oftentimes_o and_o go_v to_o visit_v his_o brethren_n to_o comfort_v they_o to_o defend_v they_o and_o to_o take_v part_n with_o they_o and_o hence_o we_o must_v learn_v not_o so_o much_o to_o give_v ourselves_o to_o know_v and_o to_o talk_v of_o matter_n of_o religion_n as_o to_o do_v and_o practise_v the_o same_o both_o before_o god_n and_o man_n this_o do_v moses_n it_o be_v the_o common_a fault_n of_o our_o age_n that_o we_o can_v be_v content_a to_o hear_v the_o doctrine_n of_o religion_n teach_v unto_o we_o yea_o many_o will_v learn_v it_o and_o often_o speak_v thereof_o but_o few_o there_o be_v that_o make_v conscience_n to_o do_v the_o thing_n they_o hear_v and_o speak_v of_o but_o let_v we_o learn_v of_o moses_n to_o put_v those_o thing_n in_o practice_n which_o we_o learn_v and_o profess_v and_o in_o silence_n do_v they_o for_o the_o few_o word_n the_o better_a unless_o our_o deed_n be_v answerable_a if_o any_o of_o we_o be_v to_o walk_v upon_o the_o top_n of_o some_o high_a mountain_n we_o will_v leave_v off_o talk_v and_o look_v unto_o our_o step_n for_o fear_n of_o fall_v behold_v when_o we_o enter_v the_o profession_n of_o christianity_n we_o be_v set_v upon_o a_o high_a mountain_n for_o the_o way_n of_o life_n be_v on_o high_a and_o christianity_n be_v the_o high_a call_n of_o god_n 3.14_o we_o therefore_o must_v be_v wise_a as_o solomon_n say_v pro._n 15.24_o &_o look_v well_o to_o our_o conversation_n have_v a_o straight_a watch_n over_o all_o our_o way_n through_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o our_o life_n even_o to_o the_o end_n of_o our_o day_n &_o not_o stand_v so_o much_o on_o speak_v &_o talk_v as_o on_o do_v for_o the_o doer_n of_o the_o work_n shall_v be_v godliness_n but_o if_o deed_n be_v want_v our_o religion_n be_v vain_a we_o be_v like_o the_o figtree_n which_o christ_n curse_v 21.19_o have_v leaf_n but_o no_o fruit_n the_o 2._o circumstance_n to_o be_v consider_v be_v the_o time_n when_o he_o refuse_v this_o honour_n namely_o when_o he_o come_v to_o be_v a_o man_n of_o year_n and_o discretion_n a_o man_n in_o common_a reason_n will_v judge_v thus_o of_o moses_n fact_n moses_n have_v rare_a fortune_n offer_v he_o he_o may_v have_v be_v son_n &_o heir_n to_o a_o princess_n sure_o this_o be_v a_o rash_a fact_n of_o he_o &_o void_a of_o consideration_n to_o refuse_v it_o undoubted_o he_o far_o overshoot_v himself_o herein_o either_o through_o rashness_n or_o ignorance_n but_o to_o prevent_v such_o carnal_a surmise_n the_o spirit_n of_o god_n set_v down_o this_o circumstance_n of_o time_n say_v that_o he_o do_v not_o refuse_v it_o in_o his_o youth_n but_o when_o he_o be_v come_v to_o age_n that_o be_v to_o perfect_a year_n of_o discretion_n and_o by_o reason_n thereof_o must_v needs_o have_v consideration_n and_o judgement_n to_o know_v what_o he_o do_v then_o do_v he_o refuse_v this_o honour_n to_o be_v pharaoh_n daughter_n son_n and_o heir_n in_o the_o seven_o of_o the_o act_n we_o shall_v see_v that_o he_o be_v forty_o year_n old_a when_o he_o do_v this_o and_o therefore_o this_o be_v true_a which_o be_v here_o say_v that_o when_o he_o be_v come_v to_o age_n and_o staidness_n then_o he_o refuse_v this_o honour_n for_o forty_o year_n be_v a_o time_n not_o only_o of_o ripeness_n for_o strength_n but_o of_o staidness_n in_o judgement_n and_o discretion_n out_o of_o this_o circumstance_n we_o learn_v two_o point_n 1_o that_o it_o be_v a_o common_a fault_n of_o young_a year_n to_o be_v subject_a to_o inconsideration_n and_o rashness_n for_o moses_n do_v not_o refuse_v the_o honour_n of_o pharaoh_n daughter_n when_o he_o be_v young_a lest_o it_o shall_v seem_v to_o be_v a_o point_n of_o rashness_n but_o when_o he_o be_v come_v to_o age_n as_o the_o text_n say_v insinuate_a that_o if_o he_o have_v do_v it_o when_o he_o be_v young_a it_o may_v have_v be_v esteem_v but_o a_o rash_a part_n and_o do_v in_o some_o hasty_a passion_n of_o youth_n every_o age_n of_o man_n have_v his_o fault_n &_o this_o be_v the_o fault_n of_o youth_n to_o be_v heady_a and_o rash_a in_o their_o affair_n for_o want_v of_o consideration_n and_o experience_n and_o therefore_o all_o young_a person_n must_v have_v care_n of_o these_o sin_n of_o youth_n and_o watch_v the_o more_o against_o they_o because_o they_o be_v so_o incident_a to_o their_o year_n now_o the_o way_n to_o avoid_v they_o be_v to_o follow_v christ_n example_n luk._n 2.52_o to_o labour_v to_o grow_v as_o in_o year_n so_o in_o wisdom_n and_o grace_n and_o to_o obey_v the_o counsel_n of_o paul_n to_o timothy_n 2._o timoth._n 2.22_o to_o fly_v the_o lust_n of_o youth_n follow_v after_o justice_n faith_n charity_n and_o peace_n with_o all_o that_o call_v upon_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n with_o a_o pure_a heart_n second_o this_o circumstance_n of_o time_n note_v moses_n deliberate_a staidness_n in_o this_o fact_n do_v plain_o advertise_v we_o what_o be_v or_o shall_v be_v the_o virtue_n of_o old_a age_n and_o the_o ornament_n of_o year_n namely_o staidness_n &_o discretion_n whereby_o i_o mean_v not_o only_o that_o alas_o this_o may_v be_v speak_v of_o old_a man_n in_o these_o day_n that_o in_o regard_n of_o this_o wisdom_n they_o be_v very_a babe_n a_o thing_n great_o disgraceful_a to_o their_o condition_n faith_n neither_o shall_v it_o have_v save_v he_o but_o when_o the_o first_o mean_n fail_v he_o than_o come_v this_o faith_n as_o the_o second_o and_o more_o effectual_a mean_n of_o his_o salvation_n but_o abel_n be_v never_o in_o possibility_n to_o be_v save_v by_o any_o thing_n but_o by_o this_o faith_n and_o therefore_o abel_n faith_n have_v the_o first_o place_n of_o commendation_n and_o that_o in_o this_o verse_n abel_n faith_n be_v here_o commend_v for_o three_o thing_n 1._o in_o that_o he_o offer_v by_o it_o a_o great_a sacrifice_n than_o cain_n 2._o by_o it_o he_o obtain_v testimony_n with_o god_n 3._o by_o it_o dead_a abel_n yet_o speak_v the_o 1._o effect_n of_o abel_n faith_n be_v thus_o set_v down_o by_o the_o h._n ghost_n by_o faith_n abel_n offer_v unto_o god_n a_o great_a sacrifice_n than_o cain_n the_o ordinary_a exposition_n of_o those_o word_n be_v this_o that_o cain_n and_o abel_n come_v to_o offer_v there_o be_v no_o difference_n in_o the_o matter_n of_o their_o sacrifice_n but_o only_o in_o the_o manner_n of_o offer_v in_o that_o abel_n offer_v by_o faith_n and_o so_o do_v not_o cain_n this_o exposition_n though_o it_o be_v good_a yet_o it_o in_o general_a the_o second_o their_o service_n in_o particular_a the_o three_o the_o difference_n of_o their_o service_n wherein_o especial_o will_v appear_v the_o excellency_n of_o abel_n faith_n first_o abel_n and_o cain_n the_o two_o first_o brethren_n in_o the_o world_n offer_a sacrifice_n to_o the_o true_a god_n how_o learn_v they_o this_o for_o they_o have_v no_o scripture_n it_o be_v pen_v many_o year_n after_o namely_o by_o moses_n first_o of_o all_o i_o answer_v when_o their_o parent_n adam_n and_o eve_n have_v fall_v god_n give_v they_o of_o his_o infinite_a goodness_n a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o the_o seed_n of_o the_o woman_n shall_v break_v the_o serpent_n head_n genes_n 3.15_o we_o doubt_v not_o but_o our_o first_o parent_n receive_v this_o covenant_n and_o believe_v the_o promise_n and_o this_o their_o faith_n teach_v they_o how_o to_o worship_v the_o true_a god_n aright_o you_o will_v say_v thus_o adam_n &_o eve_n learn_v of_o god_n but_o how_o come_v this_o to_o cain_n &_o abel_n i_o answer_v when_o they_o have_v be_v thus_o instruct_v of_o god_n adam_n as_o a_o faithful_a servant_n of_o god_n teach_v the_o same_o religion_n and_o deliver_v the_o same_o doctrine_n to_o his_o child_n and_o by_o it_o they_o be_v teach_v what_o to_o who_o and_o in_o what_o manner_n to_o offer_v sacrifice_n and_o thus_o they_o do_v it_o neither_o by_o scripture_n nor_o revelation_n nor_o their_o own_o invention_n but_o by_o the_o instruction_n of_o their_o parent_n hence_o let_v all_o parent_n learn_v a_o lesson_n of_o adam_n the_o first_o parent_n that_o be_v in_o the_o world_n namely_o to_o procure_v the_o good_a of_o their_o child_n he_o nourter_v his_o child_n excellent_o 1._o he_o provide_v for_o they_o till_o they_o come_v to_o age_n 2._o then_o he_o the_o true_a god_n both_o in_o their_o calling_n &_o in_o the_o practice_n of_o religion_n and_o therefore_o he_o teach_v they_o to_o offer_v sacrifice_n in_o way_n of_o thankfulness_n unto_o god_n all_o this_o do_v adam_n so_o must_v thou_o do_v with_o the_o child_n which_o god_n have_v give_v thou_o 1._o provide_v for_o they_o careful_o till_o they_o be_v of_o age_n take_v â—eed_o they_o great_a matter_n of_o all_o these_o teach_v they_o religion_n and_o the_o true_a manner_n of_o fear_v &_o worship_v god_n that_o as_o by_o the_o two_o first_o thy_o child_n may_v live_v well_o in_o this_o world_n so_o by_o this_o he_o may_v be_v make_v a_o heir_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n adam_n be_v the_o first_o father_n &_o father_n of_o we_o all_o let_v all_o then_o follow_v he_o in_o this_o practice_n &_o if_o we_o follow_v he_o in_o one_o follow_v he_o in_o both_o diverse_a will_v be_v as_o careful_a for_o their_o body_n &_o for_o their_o calling_n as_o adam_n be_v but_o how_o few_o be_v as_o careful_a to_o teach_v they_o religion_n for_o the_o preferment_n of_o their_o soul_n to_o life_n eternal_a but_o parent_n must_v have_v care_n of_o both_o these_o else_o they_o that_o his_o posterity_n shall_v inherit_v it_o all_o as_o afterward_o indeed_o they_o do_v even_o from_o moses_n to_o christ._n if_o it_o be_v ask_v how_o this_o can_v be_v the_o answer_n be_v that_o the_o like_a practice_n they_o shall_v rise_v up_o in_o judgement_n against_o we_o at_o the_o last_o day_n and_o thus_o much_o of_o moses_n choice_n and_o refusal_n verse_n 26._o esteem_v the_o rebuke_n of_o christ_n great_a riches_n than_o the_o treasure_n of_o egypt_n for_o he_o have_v respect_n to_o the_o recompense_n of_o reward_n moses_n as_o we_o have_v hear_v refuse_v the_o honour_n to_o suffer_v affliction_n with_o god_n people_n than_o to_o enjoy_v the_o pleasure_n and_o honour_n of_o egypt_n because_o he_o be_v persuade_v that_o reproach_n for_o christ_n his_o sake_n be_v great_a riches_n than_o all_o the_o wealth_n in_o egypt_n so_o that_o he_o refuse_v not_o absolute_o riches_n honour_n and_o other_o comfort_n but_o choose_v the_o best_a riches_n and_o honour_n and_o leave_v the_o worse_a upon_o a_o sound_a judgement_n between_o thing_n that_o do_v differ_v hereby_o we_o may_v observe_v in_o general_a how_o needful_a a_o thing_n it_o be_v for_o every_o christian_a to_o have_v sound_a knowledge_n &_o understanding_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o he_o that_o will_v walk_v upright_o and_o approve_v of_o god_n must_v be_v able_a to_o judge_v between_o thing_n that_o differ_v not_o only_o between_o good_a and_o evil_a but_o between_o good_a and_o good_a which_o be_v the_o better_a and_o so_o of_o evil_n which_o be_v the_o worse_a which_o no_o man_n can_v do_v but_o he_o that_o have_v a_o sound_n and_o right_a judgement_n in_o the_o word_n of_o god_n for_o therein_o be_v attain_v the_o spirit_n of_o discern_v many_o there_o be_v that_o by_o the_o course_n of_o their_o life_n choose_v hell_n and_o refuse_v heaven_n which_o undoubted_o come_v from_o their_o ignorance_n in_o the_o word_n but_o ignorance_n will_v excuse_v none_o he_o that_o will_v come_v to_o heaven_n must_v be_v able_a to_o discern_v good_a from_o evil_n and_o according_o to_o choose_v the_o good_a and_o to_o refuse_v that_o which_o be_v evil_a which_o without_o divine_a and_o supernatural_a knowledge_n no_o man_n can_v do_v and_o therefore_o all_o ignorant_a person_n and_o all_o such_o as_o be_v blind_v through_o the_o deceitfulness_n of_o sin_n must_v shake_v off_o their_o security_n and_o get_v sound_a knowledge_n in_o scripture_n with_o a_o good_a conscience_n that_o when_o thing_n which_o do_v differ_v be_v set_v before_o they_o they_o may_v with_o moses_n here_o learn_v not_o to_o be_v discourage_v by_o these_o mock_n indeed_o we_o must_v take_v heed_n we_o give_v they_o no_o just_a occasion_n to_o mock_v we_o and_o than_o if_o we_o be_v scoff_v at_o we_o shall_v never_o be_v hurt_v by_o it_o nay_o though_o that_o be_v far_o from_o their_o intent_n yet_o in_o mock_v we_o they_o do_v we_o great_a honour_n for_o the_o word_n of_o god_n that_o can_v lie_v be_v this_o that_o to_o suffer_v affliction_n for_o christ_n his_o sake_n be_v great_a honour_n and_o riches_n than_o the_o treasure_n of_o a_o kingdom_n and_o if_o moses_n his_o judgement_n be_v good_a which_o god_n himself_o do_v here_o commend_v then_o we_o be_v happy_a and_o bless_a in_o endure_v these_o mock_n and_o scoff_n for_o christ._n second_o we_o must_v here_o learn_v instruction_n for_o the_o time_n to_o come_v we_o have_v for_o a_o long_a time_n through_o the_o great_a goodness_n of_o god_n enjoy_a peace_n and_o wealth_n with_o the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n but_o undoubted_o these_o day_n of_o peace_n will_v have_v a_o end_n they_o can_v last_v always_o god_n people_n must_v pass_v through_o the_o fiery_a furnace_n of_o affliction_n well_o when_o this_o be_v come_v upon_o we_o how_o shall_v we_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v it_o sure_o we_o must_v now_o learn_v to_o be_v of_o this_o opinion_n that_o moses_n be_v of_o we_o must_v judge_v it_o to_o be_v the_o great_a honour_n and_o riches_n that_o can_v be_v to_o suffer_v affliction_n for_o christ_n his_o sake_n and_o this_o will_v be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o constancy_n courage_n and_o christian_a boldness_n in_o the_o day_n of_o trial_n for_o he_o that_o be_v of_o this_o mind_n will_v never_o fear_v affliction_n nor_o reproach_n for_o christ_n his_o sake_n nay_o he_o will_v be_v so_o far_o from_o fear_v it_o that_o he_o will_v rejoice_v and_o triumph_v therein_o further_o whereas_o it_o be_v say_v esteem_v the_o rebuke_n of_o christ_n here_o mark_v the_o rebuke_n of_o god_n church_n and_o people_n be_v call_v the_o rebuke_n of_o christ._n the_o people_n of_o god_n in_o egypt_n be_v lade_v with_o reproach_n and_o rebuke_n and_o behold_v christ_n account_v it_o his_o rebuke_n and_o second_o grace_n the_o first_o be_v that_o which_o god_n give_v to_o any_o man_n for_o any_o call_n the_o second_o be_v that_o which_o god_n add_v to_o the_o first_o for_o the_o confirm_v thereof_o and_o not_o unto_o the_o lord_n 2._o chron._n 16.12_o though_o otherwise_o he_o have_v good_a thing_n in_o he_o as_o 1._o king_n 15.14_o and_o many_o do_v far_o worse_o who_o seek_v to_o witch_n and_o which_o direct_v and_o lead_v the_o israelite_n in_o the_o wilderness_n for_o when_o they_o come_v from_o egypt_n and_o be_v 40._o year_n in_o the_o desert_n of_o arabia_n all_o that_o while_n they_o be_v direct_v by_o a_o pillar_n of_o cloud_n by_o day_n exod._n 13.21_o now_o look_v as_o this_o cloud_n guide_v the_o israelite_n from_o the_o bondage_n of_o egypt_n to_o the_o land_n of_o canaan_n soever_o a_o man_n turn_v he_o he_o shall_v see_v believer_n on_o every_o side_n and_o they_o be_v say_v to_o compass_v we_o because_o they_o give_v we_o direction_n in_o the_o course_n of_o christianity_n as_o the_o cloud_n do_v the_o israelite_n in_o the_o wilderness_n now_o whereas_o the_o whole_a company_n of_o believer_n be_v call_v a_o cloud_n compass_v we_o here_o be_v answer_v a_o believer_n be_v call_v a_o cloud_n compass_v we_o we_o be_v teach_v that_o as_o the_o israelites_n do_v follow_v the_o cloud_n in_o the_o wilderness_n from_o the_o land_n of_o egypt_n to_o canaan_n man_n to_o be_v his_o witness_n to_o testify_v of_o his_o religion_n unto_o other_o if_o a_o man_n be_v persuade_v that_o some_o worthy_a mighty_a prince_n will_v vouchsafe_v to_o call_v he_o to_o bear_v witness_n of_o the_o truth_n on_o his_o side_n he_o will_v be_v wonderful_a glad_a thereof_o and_o take_v it_o for_o a_o great_a honour_n to_o he_o how_o much_o more_o than_o ought_v we_o to_o we_o will_v remain_v still_o in_o our_o ignorance_n and_o never_o labour_v for_o knowledge_n then_o shall_v these_o servant_n of_o god_n that_o believe_v in_o the_o old_a testament_n stand_v up_o and_o witness_v against_o we_o at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n for_o they_o have_v not_o such_o mean_n as_o we_o have_v and_o yet_o they_o become_v most_o faithful_a witness_n second_o this_o must_v
