heaven_n these_o thing_n oftentimes_o breed_v strife_n and_o unprofitable_a contention_n they_o nourish_v also_o pride_n and_o vain_a glory_n from_o whence_o do_v spring_n envy_v and_o dissension_n whilst_o one_o will_v proud_o prefer_v this_o and_o the_o other_o another_o to_o desire_v to_o know_v and_o search_v out_o such_o thing_n be_v to_o no_o purpose_n nor_o will_v it_o please_v the_o saint_n for_o i_o be_o not_o the_o god_n of_o dissension_n but_o of_o peace_n which_o peace_n consist_v rather_o in_o true_a humility_n than_o in_o self_n exaltation_n 3._o some_o be_v carry_v with_o zeal_n of_o affection_n to_o love_v these_o or_o those_o most_o but_o this_o love_n be_v rather_o humane_a than_o divine_a i_o be_o he_o who_o make_v all_o the_o saint_n and_o have_v give_v they_o grace_n i_o have_v give_v they_o glory_n i_o know_v what_o every_o one_o have_v deserve_v i_o have_v prevent_v they_o with_o the_o blessing_n of_o my_o goodness_n i_o foreknow_v my_o belove_n before_o the_o begin_n of_o the_o world_n i_o choose_v they_o out_o of_o the_o world_n they_o choose_v not_o i_o first_o i_o call_v they_o by_o grace_n i_o draw_v they_o by_o mercy_n i_o lead_v they_o every_o one_o who_o i_o have_v thus_o glorious_o exalt_v and_o predestinate_v without_o any_o precedent_n merit_v of_o their_o own_o he_o therefore_o that_o contemn_v one_o of_o the_o least_o of_o my_o saint_n honour_v not_o the_o great_a for_o that_o i_o make_v both_o the_o less_o and_o the_o great_a and_o he_o that_o dispraif_v any_o of_o my_o saint_n dispraise_v also_o i_o and_o all_o the_o rest_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n there_o all_o be_v one_o through_o the_o bond_n of_o love_n they_o think_v the_o same_o they_o will_v the_o same_o and_o they_o all_o love_v one_o another_o 5._o but_o yet_o which_o be_v much_o more_o high_a they_o love_v i_o more_o than_o themselves_o and_o be_v draw_v out_o of_o all_o themselves_o or_o any_o merit_n of_o their_o own_o for_o be_v ravish_v above_o self-love_n they_o be_v whole_o carry_v out_o to_o love_v i_o in_o who_o also_o they_o do_v fruitive_o rest_v nothing_o can_v turn_v they_o back_o nothing_o can_v press_v they_o down_o for_o be_v full_a of_o the_o eternal_a truth_n they_o burn_v with_o the_o fire_n of_o unquenchable_a love_n let_v therefore_o carnal_a and_o natural_a man_n who_o can_v affect_v no_o other_o but_o their_o private_a joy_n forbear_v to_o dispute_v of_o the_o state_n of_o saint_n they_o add_v and_o take_v away_o according_a to_o their_o own_o fancy_n not_o as_o it_o please_v the_o eternal_a truth_n 6._o many_o be_v ignorant_a but_o special_o those_o that_o be_v slender_o enlighten_v and_o these_o can_v seldom_o love_v any_o with_o a_o perfect_a spiritual_a love_n they_o be_v as_o yet_o much_o draw_v by_o a_o natural_a affection_n and_o humane_a friendship_n to_o this_o man_n or_o to_o that_o and_o according_a to_o the_o experience_n they_o have_v of_o themselves_o in_o their_o earthly_a affection_n so_o they_o frame_v a_o imagination_n of_o heavenly_a thing_n but_o there_o be_v a_o incomparable_a distance_n between_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o imperfect_a one_o imagine_v in_o their_o conceit_n and_o those_o which_o the_o illuminate_v one_o do_v see_v by_o revelation_n from_o above_o 7._o beware_v therefore_o my_o son_n that_o thou_o treat_v not_o curious_o of_o these_o thing_n which_o exceed_v thy_o knowledge_n but_o rather_o so_o apply_v thy_o endeavour_n that_o thou_o may_v at_o least_o have_v the_o mean_a place_n in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o if_o any_o one_o do_v know_v which_o of_o the_o saint_n exceed_v other_o in_o sanctity_n or_o be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n what_o will_v this_o knowledge_n avail_v he_o unless_o he_o shall_v thereby_o humble_v himself_o the_o more_o in_o my_o sight_n and_o shall_v rise_v up_o into_o the_o great_a praise_v of_o my_o name_n he_o please_v god_n much_o better_a that_o think_v of_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o sin_n and_o the_o smallness_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o how_o far_o off_o he_o be_v from_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o saint_n than_o he_o that_o dispute_v of_o their_o greatness_n or_o littleness_n 8._o they_o be_v well_o and_o right_o well_o content_v if_o man_n can_v content_v themselves_o and_o refrain_v from_o these_o vain_a discourse_n they_o glory_v not_o of_o their_o own_o merit_n for_o they_o ascribe_v no_o good_a unto_o themselves_o but_o attribute_v all_o to_o i_o who_o of_o my_o infinite_a love_n have_v give_v they_o all_o thing_n they_o be_v fill_v with_o so_o great_a love_n of_o the_o divinity_n and_o with_o such_o a_o overflow_a joy_n that_o there_o be_v no_o glory_n nor_o happiness_n that_o be_v or_o can_v be_v want_v unto_o they_o all_o the_o saint_n how_o much_o the_o high_o they_o be_v in_o glory_n so_o much_o the_o more_o humble_a they_o be_v in_o themselves_o and_o near_o and_o dear_a unto_o i_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v write_v that_o they_o do_v cast_v their_o crown_n before_o god_n and_o fall_v down_o upon_o their_o face_n before_o the_o lamb_n and_o adore_v he_o that_o live_v for_o ever_o and_o ever_o 9_o many_o inquire_v who_o be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n that_o know_v not_o whether_o they_o shall_v ever_o be_v number_v there_o among_o the_o least_o it_o be_v a_o great_a thing_n to_o be_v even_o the_o least_o in_o heaven_n where_o all_o be_v great_a for_o that_o all_o there_o shall_v be_v call_v and_o shall_v be_v indeed_o the_o son_n of_o god_n the_o least_o shall_v become_v a_o thousand_o and_o the_o sinner_n of_o a_o hundred_o year_n shall_v die_v for_o when_o the_o disciple_n ask_v who_o shall_v be_v great_a in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n they_o receive_v this_o answer_n unless_o you_o be_v convert_v and_o be_v come_v as_o little_a child_n you_o shall_v not_o enter_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n whosoever_o therefore_o shall_v humble_v himself_o as_o word_n depart_v from_o i_o you_o curse_v into_o everlasting_a fire_n for_o they_o that_o now_o willing_o hear_v and_o follow_v the_o word_n of_o the_o cross_n shall_v not_o then_o fear_v to_o hear_v the_o sentence_n of_o everlasting_a damnation_n this_o sign_n of_o the_o cross_n shall_v be_v in_o heaven_n when_o our_o lord_n shall_v come_v to_o judgement_n then_o all_o the_o servant_n of_o the_o cross_n who_o in_o their_o life-time_n conform_v themselves_o unto_o christ_n crucify_v shall_v draw_v near_o unto_o christ_n the_o judge_n with_o great_a confidence_n 2._o why_o therefore_o fear_v thing_n according_a to_o thy_o will_n and_o judgement_n yet_o thou_o shall_v ever_o find_v that_o of_o necessity_n thou_o must_v suffer_v somewhat_o either_o willing_o or_o against_o thy_o will_n and_o so_o thou_o shall_v ever_o find_v the_o cross._n for_o either_o thou_o shall_v feel_v pain_n in_o thy_o body_n or_o in_o thy_o soul_n thou_o shall_v suffer_v tribulation_n of_o spirit_n 4._o sometime_o thou_o shall_v be_v forsake_v of_o god_n sometime_o thou_o shall_v be_v trouble_v by_o thy_o neighbour_n and_o which_o be_v more_o oftentimes_o thou_o shall_v be_v irksome_a to_o thyself_o neither_o can_v thou_o be_v deliver_v or_o ease_v by_o any_o remedy_n or_o comfort_n but_o so_o long_o as_o please_v god_n thou_o ought_v to_o bear_v it_o for_o god_n will_v have_v thou_o learn_v to_o suffer_v tribulation_n without_o comfort_n and_o that_o thou_o subject_n thyself_o whole_o to_o he_o and_o become_v more_o humble_a by_o tribulation_n no_o man_n have_v so_o cordial_a a_o feel_n of_o the_o passion_n of_o christ_n as_o he_o who_o have_v suffer_v the_o like_o himself_o the_o cross_n therefore_o be_v always_o ready_a and_o every_o where_o wait_v for_o thou_o thou_o can_v not_o escape_v it_o whithersoever_o thou_o run_v for_o wheresoever_o thou_o go_v thou_o carry_v thyself_o with_o thou_o and_o shall_v ever_o find_v thyself_o both_o above_o and_o below_o without_o and_o thy_o load_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o thou_o must_v bear_v it_o if_o thou_o cast_v away_o one_o cross_n without_o doubt_n thou_o shall_v find_v another_o and_o that_o perhaps_o a_o more_o heavy_a to_o enter_v into_o his_o glory_n luke_n 24._o and_o how_o do_v thou_o seek_v any_o other_o way_n than_o this_o high_a way_n which_o be_v the_o way_n of_o the_o holy_a cross_n 7._o the_o whole_a life_n of_o christ_n be_v a_o cross_n and_o martyrdom_n and_o do_v thou_o seek_v rest_n and_o joy_n thou_o be_v deceive_v thou_o be_v deceive_v if_o thou_o seek_v any_o other_o thing_n than_o to_o suffer_v tribulation_n for_o this_o whole_a mortal_a life_n be_v full_a of_o misery_n and_o environ_v on_o every_o side_n with_o cross_n and_o how_o much_o the_o more_o one_o have_v profit_v in_o spirit_n so_o much_o the_o heavy_a cross_n he_o oftentimes_o find_v for_o the_o love_n he_o bear_v to_o god_n increase_v the_o grief_n which_o he_o endure_v for_o his_o banishment_n 8._o but_o yet_o this_o man_n though_o so_o many_o way_n afflict_v be_v not_o without_o some_o refresh_a comfort_n for_o that_o he_o perceive_v much_o benefit_n to_o accrue_v unto_o he_o by_o the_o bear_n of_o his_o cross._n for_o while_o he_o willing_o put_v himself_o under_o it_o all_o the_o burden_n of_o tribulation_n be_v turn_v into_o the_o confidence_n of_o divine_a comfort_n and_o how_o much_o the_o more_o the_o flesh_n be_v waste_v by_o affliction_n so_o much_o the_o more_o be_v the_o spirit_n strengthen_v by_o inward_a grace_n and_o sometime_o he_o be_v so_o comfort_v with_o the_o desire_n of_o tribulation_n and_o adversity_n for_o the_o love_n of_o conform_v himself_o to_o the_o cross_n of_o christ_n that_o he_o will_v not_o wish_v at_o any_o time_n to_o be_v without_o sorrow_n and_o tribulation_n because_o he_o believe_v that_o so_o much_o the_o more_o acceptable_a he_o shall_v be_v unto_o god_n how_o much_o the_o more_o and_o more_o grievous_a thing_n he_o can_v suffer_v for_o he_o this_o be_v not_o the_o power_n of_o man_n but_o it_o be_v the_o grace_n of_o christ_n that_o can_v and_o do_v so_o much_o in_o frail_a flesh_n that_o what_o natural_o it_o always_o abhor_v and_o fly_v that_o by_o fervour_n of_o spirit_n it_o encounter_v with_o delight_n 9_o it_o be_v not_o according_a to_o man_n inclination_n to_o bear_v the_o cross_n to_o chastise_v and_o subdue_v the_o tongue_n of_o man_n for_o whether_o they_o interpret_v well_o or_o evil_a thou_o be_v not_o therefore_o another_o man._n where_o be_v true_a peace_n and_o true_a glory_n be_v it_o not_o in_o i_o and_o he_o that_o covet_v not_o to_o please_v man_n nor_o fear_v to_o displease_v they_o shall_v enjoy_v much_o peace_n from_o inordinate_a love_n and_o vain_a fear_n arise_v all_o disquietness_n of_o and_o be_v subject_a to_o so_o many_o calamity_n and_o misery_n how_o be_v it_o call_v a_o life_n that_o beget_v so_o many_o death_n and_o plague_n and_o yet_o it_o be_v love_v and_o many_o seek_v to_o delight_v themselves_o therein_o the_o world_n be_v oftentimes_o blame_v that_o it_o be_v deceitful_a and_o vain_a and_o yet_o it_o be_v not_o easy_o forsake_v because_o the_o desire_n of_o the_o flesh_n bear_v so_o great_a a_o sway_n 5._o some_o thing_n draw_v we_o to_o love_v it_o other_o to_z contemn_v it_o to_o the_o love_n of_o the_o world_n the_o lust_n of_o the_o flesh_n the_o lust_n of_o the_o eye_n and_o the_o pride_n of_o life_n do_v draw_v we_o but_o the_o pain_n and_o misery_n that_o do_v just_o follow_v they_o cause_v a_o hatred_n and_o loathsomeness_n thereof_o 6._o but_o alas_o vile_a pleasure_n overcome_v the_o mind_n which_o be_v addict_v to_o the_o world_n and_o she_o esteem_v it_o a_o delight_n to_o be_v even_o under_o thorn_n because_o she_o have_v neither_o
