character_n this_o kingdom_n be_v large_a ample_a great_a and_o spacious_a it_o hold_v not_o only_o all_o the_o bless_a angel_n but_o all_o the_o saint_n that_o have_v live_v since_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o world_n and_o be_v like_a to_o be_v to_o the_o end_n of_o it_o it_o be_v infinite_o rich_a there_o be_v such_o plenty_n there_o that_o the_o bank_n be_v overflow_v and_o the_o cup_n of_o joy_n run_v over_o it_o be_v infinite_o safe_a safe_a beyond_o all_o the_o castle_n and_o citadel_n in_o the_o world_n for_o all_o the_o inhabitant_n be_v brethren_n love_v one_o another_o with_o a_o pure_a heart_n servent_o and_o be_v everlasting_o faithful_a one_o to_o another_o so_o fearless_o they_o be_v that_o the_o gate_n of_o this_o kingdom_n stand_v open_a day_n and_o night_n it_o be_v durable_a beyond_o rock_n and_o marble_n for_o it_o be_v incorruptible_a and_o fade_v not_o away_o the_o queen_n of_o sheba_n count_v solomon_n servant_n happy_a because_o they_o live_v in_o of_o heaven_n the_o rich_a prize_n that_o ever_o be_v hear_v of_o we_o offer_v to_o you_o but_o we_o must_v tell_v you_o withal_o that_o there_o be_v no_o come_n to_o this_o rich_a and_o wealthy_a empire_n except_o you_o become_v poor_a the_o palace_n be_v stately_a and_o magnificent_a but_o the_o gate_n be_v low_a the_o rich_a the_o great_a the_o wealthy_a of_o you_o all_o must_v become_v poor_a poor_a in_o spirit_n and_o humble_a as_o a_o worm_n if_o you_o mean_v to_o enjoy_v the_o bliss_n of_o yonder_o kingdom_n if_o we_o shall_v bid_v you_o as_o christ_n do_v the_o young_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n go_v and_o sell_v all_o you_o have_v and_o give_v it_o to_o the_o poor_a and_o follow_v a_o poor_a saviour_n and_o you_o shall_v have_v treasure_n in_o heaven_n there_o be_v none_o of_o you_o but_o must_v confess_v that_o it_o be_v worth_a part_n withal_o to_o get_v this_o treasure_n but_o such_o a_o poverty_n we_o do_v not_o press_v upon_o you_o nor_o think_v it_o absolute_o and_o the_o absence_n of_o spiritual_a blessing_n and_o this_o mourning_n as_o will_v appear_v in_o the_o sequel_n be_v sometime_o great_a and_o loud_o and_o vehement_a like_o the_o mourning_n of_o a_o funeral_n but_o as_o great_a as_o it_o may_v be_v
what_o poverty_n in_o spirit_n be_v and_o here_o negative_o it_o be_v not_o 1._o a_o bare_a outward_a poverty_n or_o be_v destitute_a of_o the_o necessary_n and_o conveniency_n of_o this_o life_n not_o a_o poverty_n in_o purse_n not_o a_o worldly_a poverty_n not_o a_o state_n of_o beggary_n we_o do_v not_o deny_v but_o poverty_n have_v great_a advantage_n with_o respect_n to_o be_v good_a and_o the_o poor_a man_n be_v more_o expedite_a in_o his_o journey_n to_o heaven_n for_o he_o have_v none_o of_o those_o clog_n none_o of_o those_o briar_n and_o thorn_n which_o too_o often_o hinder_v the_o rich_a sort_n of_o man_n from_o discern_v or_o prosecute_n their_o everlasting_a happiness_n this_o divers_a of_o the_o heathen_a philosopher_n see_v loc._n who_o therefore_o speak_v a_o thousand_o pretty_a thing_n concern_v poverty_n what_o a_o help_v it_o be_v to_o virtue_n what_o a_o mean_n to_o become_v true_o wise_a what_o a_o advantage_n to_o arrive_v to_o solid_a goodness_n nay_o some_o go_v so_o far_o as_o to_o abandon_v their_o riches_n and_o throw_v their_o gold_n and_o silver_n into_o the_o sea_n that_o they_o may_v be_v more_o at_o leisure_n to_o improve_v their_o mind_n and_o to_o enrich_v their_o better_a part._n and_o indeed_o our_o saviour_n seem_v very_o much_o to_o favour_v this_o condition_n and_o there_o be_v so_o many_o thing_n speak_v against_o riches_n and_o rich_a man_n in_o the_o gospel_n as_o be_v enough_o to_o make_v man_n that_o enjoy_v any_o plenty_n or_o prosperity_n afraid_a for_o fear_v their_o reward_n shall_v be_v with_o man_n who_o have_v their_o portion_n in_o this_o life_n and_o it_o be_v to_o be_v note_v that_o christ_n say_v a_o very_a great_a thing_n concern_v this_o state_n of_o poverty_n to_o the_o poor_a the_o gospel_n be_v preach_v and_o this_o he_o reckon_v among_o the_o miracle_n he_o wrought_v to_o prove_v himself_o the_o promise_a messiah_n or_o redeemet_v of_o the_o world_n it_o be_v matth._n xi_o better_a temper_n than_o ordinary_a and_o he_o seem_v to_o be_v the_o poor_a man_n preacher_n as_o if_o he_o think_v the_o rich_a be_v not_o capable_a of_o receive_v his_o strict_a discipline_n and_o as_o if_o the_o poor_a be_v the_o most_o likely_a person_n to_o espouse_v his_o severe_a doctrine_n carnal_a reason_n will_v have_v think_v that_o when_o christ_n appear_v first_o on_o the_o stage_n of_o the_o world_n he_o shall_v have_v make_v his_o first_o address_n to_o the_o grandee_n of_o judaea_n and_o man_n of_o estate_n and_o fortune_n but_o no_o his_o converse_n be_v chief_o with_o poor_a fisherman_n and_o the_o needy_a multitude_n and_o here_o lie_v the_o miracle_n and_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o we_o may_v guess_v at_o viz._n to_o show_v that_o the_o poor_a be_v in_o a_o great_a capacity_n of_o listen_v to_o his_o oracle_n than_o the_o rich_a who_o have_v so_o many_o thing_n to_o divert_v they_o from_o the_o way_n to_o eternal_a bliss_n so_o much_o business_n and_o pleasure_n to_o mind_n here_o on_o earth_n that_o they_o be_v not_o at_o leisure_n to_o think_v of_o heaven_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o all_o this_o a_o bare_a outward_a poverty_n do_v not_o entitle_v a_o man_n to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n it_o be_v a_o great_a help_n to_o seriousness_n if_o sanctify_v and_o improve_v and_o the_o want_n of_o comfort_n here_o on_o earth_n be_v make_v a_o motive_n to_o seek_v they_o in_o heaven_n but_o the_o bare_a outward_a want_n do_v not_o make_v man_n happy_a for_o we_o see_v too_o often_o that_o the_o poor_a man_n be_v the_o wickede_a they_o be_v and_o their_o outward_a want_n make_v they_o more_o dare_v in_o impiety_n and_o sure_o this_o can_v be_v no_o qualification_n for_o eternal_a bliss_n the_o punctilio_n of_o state_n which_o the_o rich_a sort_n of_o man_n think_v themselves_o oblige_v to_o observe_v the_o luxury_n they_o be_v apt_a to_o run_v into_o the_o pamper_n of_o their_o body_n their_o pride_n in_o clothes_n and_o external_a habit_n their_o sinful_a compliance_n with_o person_n of_o their_o rank_n and_o quality_n their_o care_n to_o increase_v their_o riches_n to_o get_v a_o estate_n suitable_a to_o the_o figure_n they_o make_v in_o the_o world_n their_o ambition_n oppression_n and_o domineer_a over_o the_o mean_a sort_n and_o their_o study_n to_o keep_v up_o their_o credit_n with_o the_o great_a and_o potent_a all_o which_o too_o often_o be_v very_o powerful_a imediment_n in_o the_o rich_a sort_n to_o be_v true_o wise_a to_o salvation_n these_o the_o poor_a man_n be_v free_v from_o nor_o have_v he_o so_o great_a a_o account_n to_o give_v there_o be_v but_o little_o give_v he_o and_o consequent_o be_v in_o a_o great_a capacity_n and_o possibility_n of_o be_v wise_a and_o good_a and_o happy_a but_o his_o bare_a outward_a poverty_n will_v not_o do_v the_o work_n and_o therefore_o be_v not_o intend_v here_o nor_o 2._o a_o vow_a voluntary_a poverty_n this_o some_o champion_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n contend_v for_o as_o if_o their_o monastic_a vow_n be_v commend_v here_o even_o a_o poverty_n whereby_o man_n and_o woman_n do_v voluntary_o renounce_v their_o estate_n and_o riches_n and_o bestow_v they_o either_o upon_o their_o relation_n or_o the_o poor_a or_o the_o church_n and_o thereupon_o enter_v into_o a_o monastery_n or_o nunnery_n vow_v perpetual_a poverty_n chastity_n and_o blind_a obedience_n and_o this_o they_o make_v a_o piece_n of_o evangelical_n perfection_n which_o all_o man_n be_v not_o oblige_v to_o but_o such_o as_o some_o person_n do_v voluntary_o undertake_v to_o increase_v their_o own_o merit_n and_o sometime_o to_o merit_v for_o other_o too_o but_o certain_o this_o can_v be_v the_o sense_n here_o for_o the_o poverty_n here_o mention_v be_v represent_v as_o a_o duty_n incumbent_n upon_o all_o man_n and_o without_o which_o a_o christian_a will_v certain_o miss_v of_o a_o future_a bliss_n for_o thus_o say_v christ_n in_o the_o conclusion_n of_o this_o sermon_n whosoever_o hear_v these_o say_n of_o i_o and_o do_v they_o not_o he_o will_v i_o liken_v to_o a_o foolish_a man_n that_o build_v his_o house_n upon_o the_o
