second_o see_v and_o acknowledge_v the_o power_n and_o providence_n of_o god_n in_o that_o creature_n his_o providence_n in_o that_o thou_o have_v it_o and_o his_o power_n in_o that_o it_o serve_v for_o thy_o good_a and_o comfort_n in_o thy_o nourishment_n and_o refresh_n three_o when_o thou_o be_v comfort_v therewith_o give_v honour_n and_o glory_n to_o god_n so_o thou_o shall_v be_v true_o thankful_a and_o thus_o must_v we_o be_v thankful_a to_o god_n for_o his_o word_n and_o all_o other_o blessing_n that_o we_o enjoy_v yea_o this_o direction_n must_v we_o observe_v for_o our_o be_v use_v to_o affirm_v or_o assevere_v a_o thing_n with_o vehemency_n and_o certainty_n again_o our_o saviour_n christ_n give_v both_o direction_n and_o encouragement_n to_o prayer_n say_v thus_o whatsoever_o you_o desire_v when_o you_o pray_v believe_v that_o you_o shall_v have_v it_o and_o it_o shall_v be_v do_v unto_o you_o mark_n 11._o 24._o where_o he_o show_v two_o principal_a thing_n thus_o do_v man_n in_o fit_a season_n provide_v for_o food_n and_o raiment_n and_o we_o may_v provide_v to_o day_n that_o be_v in_o the_o time_n present_a for_o any_o needful_a thing_n when_o to_o as_o though_o they_o shall_v never_o die_v and_o they_o scarce_o know_v any_o end_n of_o their_o wealth_n this_o practice_n our_o saviour_n christ_n here_o forbid_v if_o any_o in_o a_o land_n may_v fit_a time_n sall_v out_o every_o time_n and_o every_o day_n must_v have_v his_o proper_a care_n alone_o in_o this_o reason_n we_o have_v a_o most_o notable_a rule_n for_o the_o well_o order_v of_o life_n our_o life_n to_o wit_n that_o every_o man_n must_v know_v the_o duty_n of_o his_o lawful_a call_n and_o how_o the_o discharge_n thereof_o will_v yield_v he_o thing_n necessary_a and_o man_n as_o this_o prove_v against_o the_o atheist_n that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n so_o it_o show_v the_o sovereignty_n and_o most_o wise_a regiment_n of_o his_o kingdom_n when_o a_o man_n see_v a_o great_a army_n in_o good_a array_n and_o every_o one_o keep_v his_o place_n and_o stand_v constant_o he_o will_v present_o commend_v the_o wisdom_n and_o authority_n of_o the_o leader_n why_o then_o shall_v we_o not_o acknowledge_v the_o power_n and_o soverangntie_n of_o the_o almighty_a in_o that_o constant_a station_n of_o the_o creature_n in_o that_o sweet_a order_n which_o they_o observe_v from_o the_o creation_n second_o the_o terror_n &_o accusation_n of_o a_o guilty_a conscience_n do_v argue_v 2_o evident_o the_o absolute_a sovereignty_n of_o god_n kingdom_n for_o when_o a_o man_n have_v commit_v some_o grievous_a sin_n either_o against_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n or_o the_o write_a word_n of_o god_n though_o it_o be_v so_o secret_o that_o no_o man_n know_v of_o it_o yet_o will_v his_o conscience_n accuse_v and_o fright_v he_o which_o it_o will_v not_o do_v unless_o he_o be_v to_o answer_v for_o that_o fact_n to_o god_n the_o sovereign_a lord_n of_o al._n three_o man_n of_o death_n that_o be_v such_o as_o by_o some_o notorious_a crime_n deserve_v 3_o death_n though_o through_o the_o ignorance_n or_o negligence_n of_o magistrate_n they_o be_v let_v to_o escape_v yet_o ordinary_o they_o be_v overtake_v with_o some_o fearful_a judgement_n and_o one_o way_n or_o other_o meet_v with_o their_o desert_n which_o be_v a_o special_a work_n of_o god_n sovereign_a providence_n four_o the_o gospel_n preach_v be_v as_o contrary_a to_o man_n corrupt_a nature_n 4_o as_o fire_n be_v to_o water_n and_o yet_o have_v it_o in_o all_o age_n win_v man_n unto_o it_o to_o profess_v it_o and_o to_o love_v it_o so_o as_o they_o have_v be_v content_a for_o the_o gospel_n sake_n to_o forsake_v house_n and_o land_n wife_n &_o child_n yea_o and_o life_n itself_o this_o no_o word_n of_o man_n can_v ever_o do_v &_o therefore_o it_o argue_v plain_o that_o some_o supernatural_a power_n work_v with_o it_o which_o draw_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n unto_o it_o here_o some_o may_v say_v that_o the_o devil_n have_v a_o kingdom_n contrary_n to_o god_n kingdom_n wherein_o he_o reign_v and_o therefore_o god_n kingdom_n be_v not_o absolute_a ans._n if_o we_o regard_v the_o malice_n of_o satan_n or_o the_o practice_n of_o the_o wicked_a it_o may_v seem_v god_n kingdom_n shall_v not_o be_v absolute_a because_o they_o continual_o rebel_v against_o his_o reveal_v will_v but_o consider_v the_o power_n of_o god_n which_o overrule_v satan_n and_o all_o his_o instrument_n dispose_v most_o wise_o of_o all_o their_o work_n to_o his_o own_o glory_n the_o good_a of_o his_o church_n and_o their_o own_o ruin_n and_o then_o we_o shall_v plain_o see_v that_o god_n rule_v over_o all_o for_o howsoever_o the_o devil_n and_o his_o angel_n and_o all_o other_o his_o instrument_n oppose_v themselves_o unto_o the_o word_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o law_n of_o his_o kingdom_n of_o grace_n yet_o god_n willing_o permit_v all_o such_o work_n and_o restrain_v they_o all_o at_o his_o pleasure_n so_o as_o that_o which_o come_v to_o pass_v against_o god_n reveal_v will_n be_v not_o contrary_a to_o his_o absolute_a will_n thou_o be_v the_o power_n by_o power_n be_v mean_v a_o ability_n in_o god_n whereby_o he_o can_v do_v whatsoever_o he_o will_v and_o more_o than_o he_o will_v do_v for_o the_o better_a power_n conceive_v of_o it_o note_v these_o two_o thing_n first_o that_o god_n be_v not_o only_o powerful_a but_o even_o power_n itself_o in_o regard_n of_o his_o nature_n as_o he_o be_v goodness_n and_o wisdom_n etc._n etc._n man_n and_o angel_n be_v call_v of_o a_o thing_n be_v the_o effect_n and_o do_v of_o it_o it_o be_v not_o so_o in_o we_o for_o we_o will_v many_o thing_n which_o we_o can_v do_v but_o whatsoever_o god_n will_v that_o he_o do_v and_o that_o which_o he_o can_v do_v he_o can_v will_n the_o scripture_n say_v god_n can_v lie_v nor_o deny_v himself_o nor_o die_v etc._n etc._n now_o as_o he_o can_v do_v these_o thing_n so_o neither_o can_v he_o will_v they_o for_o they_o be_v no_o work_n of_o power_n but_o of_o weakness_n and_o frailty_n and_o therefore_o be_v god_n omnipotent_a because_o he_o can_v neither_o do_v nor_o will_v the_o same_o thou_o be_v
the_o gentile_n for_o your_o heavenly_a father_n know_v that_o you_o have_v need_n of_o all_o these_o thing_n this_o verse_n contain_v christ_n five_o and_o six_o reason_n to_o dissuade_v his_o not_o the_o true_a god_n how_o shall_v they_o know_v the_o way_n to_o life_n if_o god_n give_v they_o not_o so_o much_o grace_n whereby_o they_o can_v depend_v upon_o his_o providence_n for_o the_o thing_n of_o this_o life_n much_o less_o do_v he_o give_v they_o grace_n to_o believe_v and_o to_o be_v save_v if_o they_o will_v second_o this_o show_n that_o they_o who_o set_v their_o heart_n upon_o the_o world_n 2_o pagan_n and_o give_v themselves_o to_o seek_v earthly_a thing_n be_v as_o gentile_n and_o pagan_n they_o have_v not_o yet_o attain_v to_o this_o principle_n of_o christianity_n to_o depend_v upon_o god_n providence_n by_o faith_n they_o see_v no_o providence_n and_o so_o rely_v only_o upon_o the_o mean_n whereby_o they_o sacrifice_n to_o their_o own_o pain_n and_o industry_n and_o so_o make_v themselves_o their_o own_o god_n this_o be_v the_o state_n of_o many_o among_o we_o who_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o christian_n but_o indeed_o and_o practise_v be_v as_o turk_n and_o pagan_n and_o this_o reason_n alone_o well_o weigh_v be_v sufficient_a to_o move_v any_o christian_n heart_n in_o a_o moderate_a care_n to_o seek_v earthly_a thing_n three_o mark_v the_o ground_n of_o this_o reason_n christ_n disciple_n have_v the_o 3_o true_a god_n for_o their_o god_n which_o the_o gentile_n have_v not_o and_o therefore_o heathen_a they_o must_v differ_v from_o the_o gentile_n in_o their_o behaviour_n this_o teach_v we_o that_o in_o all_o thing_n god_n child_n must_v be_v unlike_o the_o heathen_a for_o in_o evil_a thing_n we_o must_v forsake_v they_o and_o in_o all_o thing_n that_o be_v good_a we_o must_v excel_v they_o the_o son_n of_o a_o prince_n will_v not_o show_v himself_o like_o a_o beggar_n in_o any_o thing_n no_o more_o shall_v the_o child_n of_o god_n in_o any_o thing_n conform_v himself_o unto_o the_o world_n o_o then_o how_o unworthy_a do_v we_o walk_v of_o ourvocation_n for_o the_o very_a sin_n of_o the_o heathen_a be_v rife_a among_o we_o as_o uncleanness_n drunkenness_n slander_v and_o oppression_n nay_o many_o among_o we_o exceed_v the_o pagan_n in_o merciless_a deal_n towards_o the_o poor_a for_o they_o never_o know_v that_o christ_n come_v for_o relief_n in_o the_o person_n of_o his_o poor_a and_o yet_o many_o among_o they_o be_v more_o merciful_a than_o many_o now_o a_o day_n that_o bear_v the_o name_n of_o christian_n for_o do_v not_o the_o poor_a sometime_o die_v for_o want_n of_o relief_n and_o do_v not_o many_o among_o we_o make_v a_o game_n of_o god_n judgement_n upon_o the_o poor_a sell_v their_o commodity_n dear_a when_o the_o poor_a have_v great_a want_n and_o need_v well_o if_o we_o will_v approve_v ourselves_o to_o be_v god_n peculiar_a one_o let_v we_o be_v ashamed_a to_o be_v like_o the_o heathen_a in_o any_o evil_n or_o not_o to_o go_v beyond_o they_o in_o that_o which_o be_v good_a for_o your_o heavenly_a father_n know_v that_o you_o have_v need_n of_o all_o these_o thing_n these_o word_n contain_v christ_n six_o reason_n to_o his_o disciple_n against_o care_n distrustful_a care_n draw_v from_o god_n special_a providence_n over_o they_o and_o it_o also_o include_v a_o answer_n to_o a_o secret_a objection_n against_o christ_n command_n for_o some_o man_n may_v say_v if_o we_o may_v not_o be_v careful_a for_o thing_n needful_a who_o shall_v provide_v they_o christ_n here_o answer_v you_o must_v not_o be_v distrustful_o careful_a for_o you_o have_v a_o father_n in_o heaven_n who_o know_v whereof_o you_o have_v need_n and_o care_v for_o you_o now_o look_v whereof_o god_n take_v care_n in_o your_o behalf_n you_o need_v not_o trouble_v yourselves_o further_o than_o the_o sober_a use_n of_o lawful_a mean_n but_o god_n your_o heavenly_a father_n take_v notice_n of_o your_o estate_n and_o will_v provide_v that_o which_o be_v best_a for_o you_o and_o therefore_o you_o need_v not_o to_o vex_v your_o mind_n thereabout_a a_o most_o worthy_a reason_n and_o alone_o sufficient_a to_o drive_v we_o from_o distrustful_a care_n for_o this_o acquaint_v we_o with_o god_n particular_a and_o special_a providence_n over_o we_o take_v notice_n of_o our_o estate_n comfortable_a experience_n if_o by_o faith_n we_o depend_v upon_o he_o this_o david_n know_v well_o and_o therefore_o say_v 4._o he_o will_v not_o fear_v though_o he_o walk_v through_o the_o valley_n of_o the_o shadow_n of_o death_n why_o for_o thou_o be_v with_o i_o thy_o rod_n and_o staff_n that_o be_v thy_o spirit_n thy_o word_n and_o providence_n comfort_v i_o if_o our_o heart_n be_v settle_v reconciliation_n be_v dispense_v for_o there_o god_n hold_v out_o his_o sceptre_n and_o offer_v himself_o to_o be_v a_o lord_n and_o king_n unto_o man_n and_o therefore_o david_n call_v this_o and_o usurper_n do_v in_o the_o sight_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o give_v no_o rest_n unto_o our_o soul_n till_o we_o attain_v to_o some_o good_a assurance_n in_o this_o bless_a estate_n
