corrupt_v albeit_o he_o seem_v to_o lay_v down_o thing_n bare_o and_o playnelye_o namely_o of_o purpose_n so_o precise_o frame_v his_o speech_n that_o the_o image_n of_o this_o blind_a reason_n may_v be_v more_o clear_o and_o lively_o represent_v so_o there_o be_v often_o chaunginge_n of_o speech_n 〈◊〉_d the_o first_o rule_n 〈◊〉_d the_o which_o if_o solomon_n his_o purpose_n be_v not_o thorough_o examine_v may_v seem_v to_o have_v a_o clean_a contrary_a force_n and_o meaning_n the_o second_o that_o we_o must_v not_o give_v judgement_n of_o the_o whole_a sentence_n by_o some_o part_n of_o the_o sentence_n rule_n 2_o the_o second_o rule_n but_o must_v weigh_v the_o whole_a itself_o by_o his_o circumstance_n compare_v together_o the_o thing_n that_o go_v before_o with_o the_o thing_n that_o follow_v for_o as_o it_o be_v a_o point_n of_o incivility_n as_o the_o lawyer_n do_v teach_v to_o catch_v some_o one_o parcel_n of_o the_o law_n not_o view_v the_o whole_a law_n so_o be_v it_o no_o point_n of_o a_o divine_a snatch_v at_o some_o certain_a word_n to_o judge_v of_o the_o whole_a sentence_n for_o many_o thing_n be_v speak_v in_o some_o respect_n and_o that_o most_o true_o the_o which_o in_o themselves_o and_o simp_o shall_v not_o be_v true_a as_o it_o shall_v appear_v by_o the_o place_n themselves_o the_o third_o rule_n 3_o the_o third_o rule_n that_o solomon_n do_v not_o condemn_v the_o thing_n themselves_o and_o creature_n of_o god_n as_o knowledge_n the_o pleasant_a use_n of_o thing_n prudence_n riches_n honour_n and_o other_o such_o like_a but_o the_o abuse_n of_o these_o thing_n that_o be_v to_o say_v the_o study_n counsel_n desire_n endeavour_n of_o mankind_n abuse_v the_o good_a creature_n of_o god._n for_o it_o be_v blasphemy_n to_o condemn_v the_o creature_n of_o god_n the_o which_o can_v be_v but_o very_o good_a whereas_o all_o the_o fault_n of_o the_o vanity_n of_o they_o be_v to_o be_v lay_v upon_o man_n as_o be_v cause_n thereof_o for_o whatsoever_o god_n have_v create_v say_v the_o apostle_n be_v good_a and_o nothing_o to_o be_v refuse_v if_o it_o be_v take_v with_o thanks_o give_v the_o which_o use_n also_o of_o the_o creature_n solomon_n do_v evident_o and_o clear_o teach_v the_o four_o that_o the_o ground_n of_o all_o these_o precept_n the_o which_o seem_v to_o be_v mere_a civil_a &_o to_o appertain_v unto_o this_o life_n rule_n 4_o the_o four_o rule_n must_v be_v wise_o note_v that_o they_o may_v be_v distinguish_v from_o politic_a or_o philosophical_a precept_n with_o the_o which_o otherwise_o they_o may_v after_o a_o sort_n both_o in_o word_n and_o meaning_n seem_v to_o agree_v namely_o that_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o redeemer_n be_v the_o life_n &_o as_o it_o be_v the_o soul_n of_o all_o this_o doctrine_n &_o therefore_o that_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n &_o repentance_n the_o promise_n of_o everlasting_a life_n in_o the_o person_n of_o the_o son_n of_o god_n &_o to_o be_v short_a his_o voice_n sound_v in_o the_o true_a church_n unto_o the_o true_a &_o sound_a understanding_n of_o this_o doctrine_n ought_v first_o of_o all_o to_o be_v lay_v down_o &_o to_o be_v the_o everlasting_a and_o in_o deed_n chief_a principle_n of_o the_o same_o herby_n shall_v this_o holy_a philosophy_n be_v distinguish_v from_o heathen_a and_o profane_a and_o the_o sound_n and_o lively_a portraiture_n of_o virtue_n which_o be_v here_o set_v down_o unto_o we_o shall_v be_v sever_v from_o politic_a virtue_n that_o be_v to_o say_v from_o the_o shadow_n and_o show_v of_o virtue_n that_o we_o shall_v not_o reckon_v solomon_n in_o the_o same_o number_n with_o hesiodus_n philosopher_n the_o precept_n of_o solomon_n do_v great_o differ_v from_o the_o precept_n of_o the_o heathen_a philosopher_n pythagoras_n phocylides_n plato_n and_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o teacher_n of_o the_o heathen_a like_v as_o solomon_n himself_o do_v also_o plain_o witness_v that_o his_o doctrine_n be_v the_o self_n same_o the_o which_o to_o wit_n he_o have_v learn_v from_o one_o pastor_n that_o be_v moses_n the_o minister_n of_o the_o law_n or_o rather_o from_o christ_n the_o everlasting_a teacher_n of_o his_o church_n &_o that_o he_o only_o apply_v it_o as_o it_o be_v prick_v unto_o the_o man_n of_o his_o time_n and_o teach_v it_o in_o the_o church_n in_o who_o bosom_n he_o must_v rest_v himself_o whosoever_o will_v true_o profit_v in_o the_o same_o and_o thereby_o reap_v assure_v and_o certain_a commodity_n although_o we_o must_v also_o know_v this_o that_o always_o the_o chief_a light_n of_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v to_o be_v seek_v out_o of_o the_o doctrine_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n deliver_v by_o his_o apostle_n lest_o any_o man_n shall_v think_v that_o we_o do_v so_o commend_v one_o and_o the_o same_o light_n of_o the_o father_n before_o christ_n that_o by_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n himself_o we_o do_v not_o perceive_v the_o son_n to_o have_v shine_v more_o bright_o then_o at_o noon_n day_n through_o the_o guidance_n and_o help_n of_o these_o rule_n and_o the_o true_a lay_v open_a of_o the_o word_n the_o meaning_n of_o this_o sermon_n will_v not_o be_v ambiguous_a or_o doubtful_a nor_o the_o use_n and_o profit_v uncertain_a the_o which_o no_o doubt_n will_v be_v manifold_a by_o the_o sure_a and_o certain_a understanding_n of_o this_o most_o excellent_a doctrine_n profit_n 1_o the_o first_o profit_n this_o true_o be_v very_o great_a and_o most_o profitable_a to_o know_v the_o way_n not_o only_a how_o to_o lead_v this_o life_n well_o and_o happy_o but_o also_o the_o way_n how_o to_o come_v unto_o that_o everlasting_a happiness_n which_o remain_v for_o we_o in_o heaven_n for_o when_o as_o this_o cause_n have_v move_v all_o man_n of_o all_o age_n in_o who_o there_o have_v any_o spark_n of_o truth_n remain_v that_o set_v aside_o all_o other_o thing_n they_o have_v give_v themselves_o whole_o to_o search_v out_o the_o best_a state_n of_o life_n happiness_n a_o way_n to_o attain_v unto_o happiness_n no_o doubt_n they_o spend_v their_o so_o great_a care_n &_o travail_v in_o that_o study_n for_o the_o hope_n to_o live_v happy_o and_o yet_o it_o be_v manifest_a that_o they_o have_v be_v so_o busy_v in_o this_o matter_n that_o they_o may_v seem_v not_o so_o much_o to_o have_v attain_v the_o thing_n which_o they_o seek_v as_o to_o have_v make_v vow_n of_o a_o thing_n most_o excellent_a therefore_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o doctrine_n ought_v to_o be_v most_o honourable_a unto_o we_o whereby_o we_o may_v attain_v not_o only_o unto_o the_o knowledge_n but_o unto_o the_o sure_a &_o sound_o knowledge_n of_o so_o worthy_a a_o matter_n not_o have_v plato_n aristotle_n cicero_n or_o some_o other_o blind_a man_n to_o our_o guide_n but_o it_o be_v and_o what_o way_n we_o may_v attain_v unto_o it_o this_o sermon_n be_v chief_o occupy_v also_o in_o so_o great_a imbecility_n and_o weakness_n of_o mankind_n life_n 2_o the_o second_o profit_n to_o bear_v ourselves_o valiant_o &_o stout_o among_o the_o discommodity_n of_o this_o life_n among_o so_o many_o maze_n of_o so_o great_a confusion_n out_o of_o which_o there_o be_v no_o way_n to_o be_v find_v out_o it_o can_v hard_o and_o scarce_o be_v choose_v but_o that_o our_o mind_n shall_v be_v great_o amaze_v when_o as_o we_o behold_v the_o fall_n of_o mankind_n the_o overthrow_n of_o kingdom_n the_o death_n as_o well_o of_o good_a as_o bad_a the_o good_a in_o their_o life_n time_n to_o be_v often_o trouble_v with_o great_a misery_n the_o wicked_a not_o only_o to_o be_v safe_a and_o free_a from_o trouble_n but_o also_o to_o flourish_v and_o to_o be_v endue_v with_o wealth_n &_o kingdom_n against_o these_o so_o dangerous_a awhapemente_n as_o it_o be_v needful_a that_o our_o mind_n shall_v be_v strengthen_v with_o convenient_a remedy_n so_o this_o sermon_n do_v yield_v unto_o we_o those_o remedy_n clear_o and_o plentiful_o and_o among_o all_o the_o vanity_n of_o the_o life_n of_o man_n this_o be_v the_o most_o vain_a that_o there_o can_v scarce_o any_o man_n be_v find_v estate_n 3_o the_o three_o profit_n a_o remedy_n against_o discontentednesse_n with_o our_o estate_n which_o live_v content_a with_o his_o estate_n the_o which_o be_v ingraff_v in_o all_o man_n by_o the_o blot_n of_o sin_n that_o they_o be_v carry_v about_o to_o &_o fro_o with_o vain_a desire_n yea_o and_o more_o over_o do_v defraud_n &_o bereave_v
have_v give_v unto_o every_o man_n riches_n &_o wealth_n &_o have_v give_v he_o power_n to_o eat_v of_o they_o and_o to_o take_v his_o part_n and_o to_o rejoice_v of_o his_o labour_n this_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o god_n 20_o for_o he_o do_v not_o much_o remember_v the_o day_n of_o his_o life_n because_o that_o god_n hear_v he_o in_o the_o joy_n of_o his_o heart_n the_o six_o chapter_n 1_o there_o be_v a_o evil_a the_o which_o i_o have_v see_v under_o the_o sun_n and_o it_o be_v usual_a unto_o man_n 2_o a_o man_n unto_o who_o god_n have_v give_v riches_n and_o wealth_n and_o glory_n and_o his_o soul_n lack_v nothing_o of_o all_o thing_n that_o it_o desire_v but_o god_n give_v he_o not_o power_n to_o eat_v of_o they_o but_o a_o man_n that_o be_v a_o stranger_n shall_v eat_v they_o this_o be_v vanity_n and_o a_o evil_a sickness_n 3_o if_o a_o man_n be_v get_v a_o hundred_o child_n and_o live_v many_o year_n and_o the_o day_n of_o his_o year_n be_v increase_v and_o his_o soul_n be_v not_o satisfy_v with_o good_a itself_o and_o he_o have_v no_o burial_n i_o say_v a_o untimely_a fruit_n be_v better_a than_o he_o 4_o for_o he_o come_v into_o vanity_n and_o shall_v go_v into_o darkness_n and_o his_o name_n shall_v be_v cover_v in_o darkness_n 5_o also_o for_o that_o he_o have_v not_o see_v the_o sun_n nor_o know_v any_o thing_n this_o have_v rest_n more_o than_o the_o other_o 6_o and_o if_o he_o live_v a_o thousand_o year_n twice_o tell_v &_o see_v no_o good_a do_v not_o all_o man_n go_v unto_o one_o place_n 7_o all_o the_o labour_n of_o man_n be_v for_o his_o mouth_n and_o that_o love_v a_o multitude_n to_o wit_n of_o money_n for_o the_o hebrew_n word_n signify_v riches_n as_o the_o latin_a word_n copiae_fw-la be_v take_v for_o wealth_n or_o riches_n be_v without_o fruit_n they_o have_v no_o profit_n at_o all_o of_o riches_n for_o covetous_a man_n do_v not_o use_v the_o present_a riches_n which_o they_o have_v but_o be_v torment_v with_o the_o desire_n of_o wealth_n to_o come_v therefore_o they_o take_v great_a toil_n but_o unto_o no_o profit_n of_o they_o for_o they_o stand_v always_o in_o need_n be_v poor_a in_o the_o midst_n of_o great_a wealth_n and_o have_v no_o more_o that_o which_o they_o have_v then_o that_o which_o they_o have_v not_o for_o they_o defraud_v themselves_o of_o the_o use_n of_o their_o own_o good_n the_o which_o use_n life_n what_o have_v the_o rich_a man_n regard_n unto_o to_o hoard_v up_o great_a heap_n of_o riches_n what_o more_o to_o live_v also_o he_o do_v not_o think_v the_o life_n of_o poor_a man_n to_o be_v a_o life_n and_o that_o it_o be_v lawful_a for_o he_o to_o live_v at_o case_n and_o to_o sleep_v a_o deep_a sleep_n while_o poor_a man_n get_v their_o live_n with_o great_a labour_n but_o how_o well_o entangle_v with_o great_a burden_n of_o debt_n neither_o can_v great_a tribute_n and_o custom_n suffice_v for_o the_o maintenance_n of_o their_o riot_n and_o excess_n on_o the_o contrariside_n man_n the_o poor_a man_n the_o poor_a man_n according_a unto_o the_o measure_n of_o his_o riches_n lead_v a_o thrifty_a and_o a_o orderly_a life_n so_o that_o some_o time_n he_o have_v more_o leave_v at_o the_o year_n end_n than_o he_o which_o have_v large_a possession_n he_o sometime_o shall_v both_o be_v cumber_v with_o great_a business_n and_o shall_v tie_v his_o heir_n fast_o by_o the_o foot_n for_o debt_n wicked_a riches_n say_v one_o do_v increase_n much_o horace_n call_v it_o short_a wealth_n because_o that_o covetous_a man_n always_o lackâ—_n some_o thing_n albeit_o they_o have_v never_o so_o much_o yet_o short_a wealth_n have_v always_o i_o can_v tell_v what_o want_v unto_o it_o these_o thing_n in_o deed_n do_v not_o always_o fall_v out_o yet_o because_o they_o sometime_o fall_v out_o they_o do_v flat_o descry_v the_o vanity_n of_o riches_n in_o this_o vanity_n of_o riches_n therefore_o what_o good_a be_v there_o say_v he_o unto_o their_o owner_n that_o be_v to_o say_v what_o commodity_n &_o profit_n save_v the_o behold_n of_o the_o eye_n that_o be_v to_o say_v save_v that_o he_o only_o look_v upon_o his_o good_n &_o feed_v his_o eye_n with_o the_o behold_n of_o they_o but_o receive_v no_o profit_n the_o which_o he_o may_v constant_o enjoy_v for_o if_o the_o covetous_a man_n only_o use_v his_o riches_n he_o himself_o take_v his_o portion_n the_o rest_n that_o a_o excellent_a comparison_n to_o wit_n of_o a_o mighty_a king_n and_o a_o poor_a man_n of_o a_o small_a city_n and_o few_o man_n to_o defend_v it_o of_o a_o strong_a and_o great_a army_n to_o assault_v it_o yet_o there_o be_v the_o overthrow_n and_o here_o the_o victory_n and_o happy_a end_n these_o be_v notable_a and_o evident_a token_n of_o the_o providence_n of_o god_n the_o which_o notwithstanding_o unthankful_a man_n do_v not_o acknowledge_v 15_o and_o no_o man_n thus_o man_n that_o have_v very_o well_o deserve_v of_o other_o be_v many_o time_n evil_a requite_v for_o their_o
