ofttimes_o be_v but_o like_o the_o jew_n trust_v in_o egypt_n which_o the_o prophet_n compare_v to_o a_o lean_v to_o a_o bruise_a reed_n and_o upon_o a_o break_a staff_n which_o be_v not_o able_a to_o bear_v the_o weight_n of_o a_o man_n body_n but_o if_o he_o lean_v upon_o they_o they_o will_v run_v into_o his_o hand_n if_o god_n be_v against_o we_o man_n can_v protect_v from_o he_o nor_o deliver_v out_o of_o his_o hand_n therefore_o say_v the_o psalmist_n psalm_n 118.8_o 9_o it_o be_v better_a to_o trust_v in_o the_o lord_n than_o to_o put_v confidence_n in_o man_n it_o be_v better_a that_o god_n be_v more_o glorify_v by_o his_o church_n and_o by_o his_o saint_n than_o by_o all_o the_o creation_n beside_o god_n be_v mute_o and_o passive_o glorify_v by_o other_o creature_n but_o in_o his_o temple_n man_n speak_v of_o his_o glory_n the_o child_n of_o man_n and_o among_o they_o only_o those_o who_o be_v bear_v of_o god_n do_v voluntary_o and_o out_o of_o choice_n bring_v of_o it_o sure_o if_o haman_n can_v say_v who_o shall_v the_o king_n delight_n to_o honour_n but_o i_o they_o may_v with_o much_o better_a right_n and_o advantage_n say_v for_o who_o shall_v the_o people_n or_o if_o they_o have_v it_o be_v so_o spare_o and_o with_o so_o much_o caution_n as_o be_v no_o way_n consistent_a with_o that_o liberty_n and_o freedom_n and_o that_o mutual_a confidence_n each_o in_o another_o which_o such_o a_o state_n require_v as_o be_v capable_a of_o those_o kind_n of_o blessing_n or_o in_o a_o rational_a or_o probable_a way_n to_o receive_v they_o you_o can_v but_o observe_v how_o every_o one_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v acquaint_v and_o to_o deal_v with_o person_n that_o have_v a_o reputation_n for_o moral_a honesty_n and_o matter_n of_o justice_n in_o bargain_n and_o barter_n in_o buy_n and_o selling_n and_o exchange_v now_o the_o outward_a blessing_n of_o riches_n and_o prosperity_n as_o to_o business_n depend_v much_o upon_o society_n good_a understanding_n betwixt_o each_o of_o other_o and_o good_a opinion_n of_o person_n engage_v in_o the_o same_o society_n which_o may_v dispose_v man_n to_o just_a and_o mutual_a confidence_n each_o in_o other_o it_o be_v not_o at_o all_o to_o be_v wonder_v at_o if_o those_o place_n and_o person_n thrive_v best_a among_o who_o these_o be_v find_v which_o be_v the_o rational_a mean_n agree_v to_o such_o a_o end_n the_o like_a may_v be_v say_v of_o other_o moral_a virtue_n such_o as_o be_v temperance_n and_o sobriety_n be_v rational_a mean_n tend_v to_o the_o preservation_n of_o man_n life_n and_o health_n which_o be_v other_o sensible_a blessing_n it_o be_v not_o at_o all_o to_o be_v wonder_v that_o these_o blessing_n which_o be_v the_o end_n do_v natural_o follow_v the_o proper_a mean_n even_o as_o the_o thread_n follow_v the_o needle_n in_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o sempstress_n god_n have_v so_o order_v it_o that_o end_n shall_v be_v ordinary_o obtain_v in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n always_o suppose_v the_o ordinary_a providence_n of_o god_n which_o must_v give_v the_o blessing_n upon_o any_o mean_v use_v in_o order_n to_o any_o end_n 2._o but_o second_o there_o be_v more_o than_o this_o in_o it_o god_n in_o the_o pursuance_n of_o his_o many_o promise_n do_v there_o command_v the_o blessing_n i_o be_o speak_v of_o ordinary_a case_n for_o god_n particular_a design_n to_o chasten_v any_o person_n or_o to_o try_v they_o make_v a_o exception_n to_o these_o however_o general_a rule_n god_n have_v promise_v his_o sensible_a thing_n matth._n 6.32_o to_o those_o who_o receive_n of_o any_o mercy_n from_o he_o and_o injustice_n violence_n and_o oppression_n constant_o enumerate_v as_o those_o sin_n to_o which_o be_v annex_v all_o the_o threaten_n of_o taking_n away_o those_o temporal_a blessing_n which_o a_o nation_n do_v enjoy_v indeed_o unless_o profaneness_n and_o irreligion_n or_o idolatrous_a and_o undue_a worship_n of_o god_n almost_o all_o the_o sin_n for_o which_o you_o find_v threaten_n of_o the_o deprival_n of_o temporal_a sensible_a blessing_n be_v reducible_a to_o one_o of_o these_o head_n either_o be_v failer_n in_o matter_n of_o civil_a justice_n desire_v who_o will_v show_v we_o any_o good_a be_v the_o general_a language_n of_o the_o world_n there_o be_v many_o say_v the_o psalmist_n that_o say_v who_o will_v show_v we_o any_o good_a and_o though_o the_o heart_n of_o god_n people_n be_v after_o spiritual_a good_a lord_n say_v david_n lift_v thou_o up_o the_o light_n of_o thy_o countenance_n upon_o i_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o that_o profession_n and_o practice_n of_o religion_n to_o execute_v justice_n and_o judgement_n to_o live_v in_o brotherly_a love_n unity_n and_o amity_n one_o with_o another_o whoso_o therefore_o will_v be_v wise_a for_o himself_o according_a to_o the_o world_n measure_n of_o wisdom_n be_v oblige_v to_o this_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o in_o scripture_n and_o especial_o in_o the_o book_n of_o proverb_n the_o sinner_n be_v call_v a_o fool_n the_o godly_a man_n be_v count_v a_o wise_a man_n and_o the_o truth_n be_v whether_o person_n consider_v themselves_o as_o being_n ordain_v to_o a_o eternity_n or_o mere_o as_o flesh_n and_o blood_n and_o bodily_a composition_n who_o as_o be_v natural_a to_o all_o creature_n have_v a_o natural_a desire_n to_o live_v as_o long_o as_o they_o can_v and_o as_o who_o have_v no_o fear_n of_o god_n before_o their_o eye_n but_o we_o also_o see_v child_n smite_v of_o god_n such_o of_o who_o we_o say_v they_o have_v neither_o do_v good_a nor_o evil_a the_o question_n be_v quest_n how_o this_o dispensation_n of_o actual_a providence_n be_v reconcileable_a to_o the_o justice_n and_o goodness_n of_o god_n that_o which_o blind_v our_o eye_n and_o make_v such_o we_o see_v not_o we_o have_v no_o sufficient_a mean_n to_o understand_v and_o therefore_o free_o leave_v they_o to_o the_o good_a pleasure_n of_o god_n but_o we_o see_v they_o be_v afflict_v as_o well_o as_o other_o they_o die_v as_o much_o as_o other_o if_o not_o in_o great_a number_n shall_v we_o say_v the_o hand_n of_o god_n be_v not_o in_o this_o thing_n or_o that_o their_o sickness_n and_o death_n be_v no_o effect_n of_o punitive_a providence_n or_o vindicative_a justice_n but_o the_o mere_a product_n of_o a_o disorder_a nature_n and_o temper_n this_o be_v certain_o to_o god_n by_o his_o prophet_n threaten_v the_o death_n of_o david_n child_n by_o bathsheba_n and_o of_o jeroboam_n child_n in_o this_o text_n see_v vers_fw-la 12._o the_o affliction_n and_o trouble_n of_o child_n rise_v no_o more_o out_o of_o the_o dust_n nor_o more_o spring_v out_o of_o the_o ground_n than_o other_o their_o affliction_n come_v at_o his_o command_n work_v at_o his_o command_n bring_v forth_o the_o issue_n which_o he_o will_v they_o and_o be_v punishment_n as_o well_o as_o the_o affliction_n of_o more_o adult_n and_o grow_v person_n my_o business_n must_v be_v to_o to_o cut_v off_o our_o child_n from_o the_o womb_n and_o from_o the_o breast_n to_o deliver_v they_o from_o the_o bodily_a pain_n and_o ache_n from_o all_o other_o vexation_n cross_n and_o disturbance_n which_o they_o shall_v be_v sure_a to_o meet_v with_o in_o the_o world_n happy_a thrice_o happy_a be_v that_o soul_n certain_o that_o make_v but_o one_o leap_n from_o the_o womb_n into_o abraham_n bosom_n that_o take_v but_o one_o step_n into_o the_o world_n and_o the_o next_o into_o paradise_n and_o certain_o this_o be_v the_o case_n of_o very_a many_o christ_n have_v tell_v we_o be_v there_o there_o be_v good_a hope_n of_o the_o seed_n of_o those_o that_o fear_n god_n the_o covenant_n of_o god_n be_v with_o his_o people_n and_o with_o their_o seed_n and_o how_o happy_a be_v they_o that_o can_v get_v to_o heaven_n with_o a_o groan_n or_o two_o with_o such_o a_o degree_n of_o pain_n and_o ache_n as_o those_o little_a body_n can_v only_o bear_v and_o that_o before_o their_o reason_n be_v improve_v by_o its_o reflection_n to_o make_v their_o pain_n and_o misery_n more_o bitter_a so_o that_o as_o to_o all_o such_o as_o be_v ordain_v unto_o life_n the_o case_n be_v plain_a divine_a goodness_n be_v eminent_o see_v in_o give_v they_o so_o short_a a_o passage_n through_o the_o vale_n of_o misery_n and_o show_v they_o a_o far_o short_a and_o near_a way_n to_o heaven_n than_o what_o more_o grow_v person_n must_v go_v through_o much_o tribulation_n now_o though_o i_o can_v assure_v you_o this_o concern_v all_o yet_o i_o can_v concern_v many_o which_o make_v the_o at_o nativity_n and_o mourn_v at_o burial_n into_o a_o mourning_n at_o the_o birth_n of_o their_o child_n and_o a_o rejoice_v and_o triumph_v at_o the_o death_n of_o their_o friend_n we_o to_o who_o a_o life_n and_o immortality_n be_v bring_v to_o light_n by_o the_o gospel_n and_o to_o who_o the_o immediate_a transition_n of_o elect_a soul_n out_o of_o a_o state_n of_o mortality_n and_o misery_n into_o a_o state_n of_o happiness_n and_o eternal_a blessedness_n be_v matter_n of_o faith_n have_v much_o more_o reason_n to_o adore_v the_o goodness_n of_o god_n in_o the_o present_a determination_n of_o our_o child_n life_n than_o to_o quarrel_v at_o divine_a providence_n for_o bring_v such_o thing_n to_o pass_v while_o it_o do_v we_o nor_o we_o any_o further_a harm_n than_o deprive_v we_o of_o the_o little_a pleasure_n we_o take_v in_o behold_v those_o picture_n of_o ourselves_o dandle_v they_o in_o our_o lap_n hug_v they_o in_o our_o bosom_n while_o also_o this_o pleasure_n be_v embitter_v
