majesty_n will_v quarrel_v with_o you_o for_o this_o vow_n as_o you_o explicate_v it_o though_o to_o tell_v you_o my_o sense_n of_o it_o i_o do_v not_o know_v how_o it_o stand_v with_o his_o prerogative_n that_o the_o pope_n shall_v have_v power_n over_o his_o subject_n which_o may_v be_v useful_a to_o he_o to_o send_v they_o without_o his_o leave_n to_o japan_n and_o china_n but_o this_o authoity_n you_o assume_v to_o yourselves_o and_o further_o for_o you_o do_v not_o only_o oblige_v your_o subject_n to_o come_v in_o or_o go_v out_o of_o the_o kingdom_n when_o you_o command_v they_o but_o play_v the_o judge_n of_o life_n and_o death_n upon_o the_o king_n natural_a subject_n without_o his_o leave_n or_o any_o crime_n that_o according_a to_o civil_a law_n deserve_v punishment_n you_o presume_v by_o your_o power_n to_o send_v they_o to_o watten_n or_o some_o such_o place_n wherein_o either_o yourselves_o have_v high_a justice_n or_o the_o high_a justice_n be_v at_o your_o devotion_n there_o frame_v process_n against_o they_o and_o execute_v they_o without_o make_v account_n to_o his_o majesty_n of_o the_o life_n of_o his_o subject_n for_o pretend_a crime_n commit_v in_o england_n this_o take_v the_o whole_a story_n together_o i_o conceive_v to_o be_v no_o less_o than_o make_v yourselves_o sovereign_n over_o his_o majesty_n subject_n that_o be_v to_o be_v a_o act_n of_o high_a treason_n yet_o all_o part_n of_o this_o action_n be_v evident_o in_o your_o hand_n in_o virtue_n of_o your_o obedience_n and_o your_o have_v such_o place_n of_o high_a justice_n in_o your_o command_n so_o that_o your_o subject_n have_v other_o sovereign_n than_o the_o king_n majesty_n who_o by_o consequence_n they_o ought_v to_o fear_v more_o than_o he_o since_o their_o power_n be_v more_o immediate_a and_o press_v and_o press_v on_o their_o conscience_n as_o for_o the_o practice_n it_o be_v say_v to_o have_v be_v use_v upon_o one_o thomas_n barton_n a_o eminent_a scholar_n among_o you_o who_o write_v a_o book_n call_v the_o agreement_n of_o faith_n and_o reason_n how_o true_a it_o be_v i_o undertake_v not_o to_o justify_v but_o if_o you_o will_v justify_v yourselves_o from_o high_a treason_n it_o behoove_v you_o to_o produce_v the_o man_n and_o so_o you_o have_v my_o seven_o doubt_n 8._o my_o eight_o doubt_n be_v that_o you_o equivocate_v with_o we_o in_o this_o word_n dependence_n for_o you_o turn_v it_o to_o be_v dependence_n by_o vow_n whereas_o more_o likely_a it_o mean_v dependence_n of_o interest_n and_o signify_v that_o it_o be_v your_o interest_n to_o engage_v the_o pope_n to_o you_o by_o maintain_v all_o height_n of_o supreme_a authority_n in_o he_o though_o it_o be_v ever_o so_o irrational_a and_o against_o god_n law_n for_o by_o so_o do_v you_o also_o can_v use_v it_o all_o for_o your_o own_o interest_n in_o procure_v for_o yourselves_o and_o friend_n whatever_o lie_v either_o in_o the_o pope_n authority_n or_o grace_n as_o exemption_n privilege_n benefice_n etc._n etc._n for_o man_n look_v not_o on_o your_o body_n as_o on_o other_o who_o general_n have_v no_o other_o power_n than_o according_a to_o their_o rule_n to_o look_v to_o their_o discipline_n but_o on_o you_o they_o look_v as_o on_o a_o army_n manage_v by_o one_o man_n who_o weapon_n be_v pen_n and_o tongue_n and_o the_o art_n of_o negotiation_n and_o all_o plausible_a mean_n of_o commend_v yourselves_o to_o the_o world_n which_o you_o exercise_v in_o such_o a_o height_n as_o to_o have_v have_v the_o boldness_n to_o threaten_v the_o pope_n with_o a_o schism_n to_o tell_v the_o king_n of_o spain_n your_o tongue_n and_o pen_n have_v get_v he_o more_o dominion_n than_o his_o army_n to_o attempt_v break_v the_o liberty_n of_o venice_n to_o be_v able_a to_o raise_v sedition_n in_o most_o country_n and_o to_o be_v dreadful_a to_o the_o very_a king_n and_o prince_n and_o all_o this_o because_o as_o christ_n propose_v to_o his_o disciple_n the_o love_n of_o one_o another_o for_o the_o badge_n of_o christianity_n so_o your_o general_n propose_v to_o you_o blind_a obedience_n for_o the_o badge_n of_o a_o jesuit_n that_o be_v by_o cooperate_n with_o they_o to_o make_v they_o powerful_a and_o great_a lord_n and_o yourselves_o invincible_a and_o terrible_a to_o all_o that_o oppose_v you_o for_o this_o end_n you_o exalt_v the_o pope_n infallibility_n that_o you_o may_v get_v your_o opponent_n condemn_v in_o rome_n and_o then_o cry_v they_o down_o for_o heretic_n for_o this_o reason_n you_o teach_v the_o pope_n to_o have_v all_o authority_n in_o the_o church_n and_o other_o bishop_n to_o be_v but_o his_o deputy_n so_o join_v with_o your_o brother-presbyter_n in_o real_o destroy_v the_o hierarchy_n that_o when_o you_o by_o grace_n or_o surreption_n have_v purloin_v a_o command_n from_o that_o court_n you_o may_v treat_v all_o that_o resist_v you_o as_o schismatic_n and_o rebel_n to_o the_o church_n yet_o if_o we_o believe_v mr._n white_n acknowledge_v a_o able_a man_n they_o be_v both_o damnable_a heresy_n and_o destructive_a of_o faith_n and_o church_n and_o many_o other_o also_o of_o our_o most_o learned_a dislike_v they_o though_o their_o courage_n etc._n etc._n reach_v not_o to_o brand_v they_o so_o severe_o in_o this_o complication_n of_o interest_n then_o and_o not_o in_o your_o glorious_a vow_n consist_v the_o dependence_n you_o have_v so_o special_o on_o the_o pope_n in_o a_o matter_n not_o of_o religion_n but_o of_o temporal_a profit_n and_o greatness_n 9_o my_o nine_o doubt_n be_v about_o the_o comparison_n you_o make_v between_o yourselves_o and_o other_o tell_v we_o how_o you_o be_v by_o special_a vow_n exclude_v from_o all_o benefice_n and_o dignity_n by_o which_o the_o pope_n may_v win_v the_o affection_n of_o other_o churchman_n concern_v which_o i_o first_o inquire_v whether_o this_o be_v roundly_o true_a i_o doubt_v you_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o reject_v all_o the_o abbey_n and_o benefice_n annex_v to_o your_o college_n to_o verify_v this_o vow_n as_o you_o have_v set_v it_o down_o in_o your_o paper_n and_o therefore_o the_o effect_n of_o your_o vow_n be_v only_o that_o private_a man_n may_v not_o be_v alienate_v from_o your_o order_n with_o hope_n of_o quiet_a life_n in_o such_o benefice_n and_o not_o the_o contempt_n of_o the_o power_n and_o honour_n follow_v it_o as_o be_v sufficient_o testify_v by_o another_o vow_n of_o you_o which_o be_v that_o if_o any_o of_o you_o for_o special_a reason_n be_v make_v bishop_n he_o shall_v be_v bind_v to_o be_v subject_a to_o the_o provincial_n or_o rector_n of_o the_o place_n of_o his_o residence_n and_o to_o take_v their_o advice_n in_o the_o government_n of_o his_o church_n which_o you_o extend_v as_o far_o as_o to_o cardinal_n to_o a_o capacity_n of_o which_o eminent_a dignity_n notwithstanding_o your_o special_a vow_n your_o dispensation_n easy_o reach_v so_o that_o your_o vow_n be_v no_o religious_a one_o of_o despise_v honour_n but_o a_o politic_a abuse_n mask_v under_o the_o veil_n of_o religion_n that_o the_o able_a man_n of_o your_o order_n may_v not_o be_v separate_v from_o it_o and_o so_o the_o body_n may_v remain_v the_o strong_a and_o your_o general_n more_o potent_a to_o resist_v the_o pope_n himself_o neither_o do_v this_o any_o way_n diminish_v but_o increase_v your_o dependence_n on_o the_o pope_n both_o because_o it_o be_v by_o he_o your_o house_n be_v furnish_v with_o benefice_n and_o those_o never_o to_o return_v to_o the_o pope_n donation_n as_o because_o you_o oblige_v your_o friend_n by_o procure_v other_o for_o they_o you_o be_v at_o his_o elbow_n to_o suggest_v this_o or_o that_o friend_n on_o who_o all_o his_o benefice_n may_v be_v confer_v by_o which_o mean_v you_o get_v the_o endearment_n due_a to_o the_o pope_n from_o those_o friend_n to_o the_o increase_n of_o your_o own_o power_n and_o riches_n and_o yourselves_o still_o find_v out_o new_a pretend_a necessity_n to_o beg_v more_o so_o that_o this_o holy_a vow_n of_o you_o no_o way_n make_v you_o less_o subject_a to_o the_o pope_n but_o to_o suck_v his_o pap_n the_o hard_a as_o those_o know_v who_o have_v see_v what_o pass_v in_o france_n and_o flanders_n these_o late_a year_n especial_o under_o the_o archduke_n leopold_n 10._o yet_o have_v i_o another_o doubt_v concern_v this_o vow_n of_o you_o viz._n whether_o it_o do_v not_o make_v you_o as_o refractory_a to_o king_n and_o prince_n as_o to_o the_o pope_n for_o to_o speak_v truth_n whatever_o the_o right_o be_v in_o other_o country_n in_o england_n where_o the_o canon_n and_o concordates_n with_o the_o pope_n have_v be_v out_o of_o use_v a_o hundred_o year_n and_o by_o consequence_n have_v no_o force_n even_o in_o your_o own_o doctor_n opinion_n and_o therefore_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v govern_v by_o nature_n and_o reason_n at_o least_o in_o
attempt_v again_o that_o enterprise_n and_o again_o he_o say_v that_o the_o king_n be_v so_o interest_v together_o with_o the_o pope_n to_o sack_v as_o he_o term_v it_o her_o majesty_n reformation_n that_o he_o the_o say_a king_n be_v bind_v in_o justice_n to_o do_v it_o and_o can_v without_o prejudice_v of_o his_o high_a estimation_n and_o greatness_n refuse_v at_o the_o scone_a opportunity_n to_o attempt_v it_o marry_o withal_o to_o comfort_v we_o he_o write_v that_o the_o king_n intend_v no_o rigorous_a deal_n with_o our_o nation_n in_o the_o prosecution_n of_o his_o invasion_n when_o he_o come_v hither_o which_o great_a favour_n of_o the_o king_n towards_o we_o we_o be_v to_o ascribe_v to_o good_a father_n parson_n if_o we_o may_v believe_v his_o dutiful_a subject_n mr._n southwell_n the_o jesuit_n for_o thus_o he_o tell_v we_o if_o ever_o say_v he_o the_o king_n shall_v prevail_v in_o that_o designment_n of_o his_o new_a invasion_n father_n parson_n assist_v with_o cardinal_n alane_n authority_n have_v do_v that_o in_o our_o country_n behalf_n for_o which_o his_o most_o bitter_a enemy_n and_o general_o all_o her_o majesty_n subject_n shall_v have_v cause_n to_o thank_v he_o for_o his_o serviceable_a endeavour_n so_o far_o have_v he_o incline_v fury_n to_o clemency_n and_o rage_n to_o compassion_n sure_o we_o be_v great_o behold_v to_o this_o good_a father_n that_o have_v have_v so_o kind_a a_o remembrance_n of_o we_o but_o we_o wish_v that_o he_o have_v rather_o employ_v himself_o as_o a_o religious_a man_n in_o the_o service_n of_o god_n and_o his_o private_a meditation_n than_o thus_o to_o have_v busy_v himself_o in_o set_v forward_o and_o qualify_a it_o when_o he_o have_v do_v so_o outrageous_a a_o designment_n and_o do_v pray_v with_o all_o our_o heart_n that_o neither_o we_o nor_o this_o kingdom_n do_v ever_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o spaniard_n who_o unspeakable_a cruelty_n in_o other_o country_n a_o worthy_a catholic_n the_o bishop_n have_v notable_o describe_v to_o all_o posterity_n the_o same_o mr._n parson_n also_o together_o with_o his_o fellow_n jesuit_n mr._n creswell_n as_o man_n that_o pretend_v extraordinary_a love_n to_o their_o country_n have_v write_v a_o large_a volume_n against_o the_o say_a proclamation_n wherein_o what_o malice_n and_o contempt_n can_v devise_v that_o may_v provoke_v her_o majesty_n to_o indignation_n against_o we_o be_v there_o set_v out_o very_o skilful_o they_o themselves_o well_o know_v that_o no_o other_o fruit_n or_o benefit_n can_v come_v unto_o we_o by_o that_o discourse_n except_o it_o be_v still_o to_o plague_v we_o whilst_o the_o say_a invasion_n be_v thus_o talk_v of_o and_o in_o preparation_n in_o spain_n a_o short_a course_n be_v think_v of_o if_o it_o may_v have_v have_v success_n mr._n hesket_n be_v set_v on_o by_o the_o jesuit_n 1592._o or_o thereabouts_o with_o father_n parson_n consent_n or_o knowledge_n to_o have_v stir_v up_o the_o earl_n of_o derby_n to_o rebellion_n against_o her_o highness_n not_o long_o after_o good_a father_n holt_n and_o other_o with_o he_o persuade_v a_o irish_a man_n one_o patrick_n collen_n as_o he_o himself_o confess_v to_o attempt_v the_o lay_n of_o his_o violent_a and_o villainous_a hand_n upon_o her_o majesty_n short_o after_o in_o the_o year_n 1593._o that_o notable_a stratagem_n be_v plot_v the_o whole_a state_n know_v by_o who_o for_o doctor_n lopez_n the_o queen_n physician_n to_o have_v poison_v she_o for_o the_o which_o he_o be_v execute_v the_o year_n after_o this_o wicked_a designment_n be_v thus_o prevent_v by_o god_n providence_n the_o say_v traitorous_a jesuit_n holt_n and_o other_o do_v allure_v and_o animate_v one_o york_n and_o williams_n to_o have_v accomplish_v that_o with_o their_o bloody_a hand_n that_o the_o other_o purpose_v to_o have_v do_v with_o his_o poison_n we_o mean_v her_o majesty_n destruction_n hereunto_o we_o may_v add_v the_o late_a villainous_a attempt_n 1599_o of_o edward_n squire_n animate_v and_o draw_v thereunto_o as_o he_o confess_v by_o walpole_n that_o pernicious_a jesuit_n but_o we_o must_v turn_v again_o to_o father_n parson_n who_o turn_n and_o doubling_n be_v such_o as_o will_v trouble_v a_o right_n good_a hound_n to_o trace_v he_o for_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n that_o the_o say_v traiter_n one_o after_o another_o be_v plot_v and_o study_v how_o best_o they_o may_v compass_v her_o majesty_n death_n they_o care_v not_o how_o nor_o by_o what_o mean_n he_o the_o say_a father_n parson_n so_o prevail_v with_o the_o king_n as_o he_o attempt_v twice_o in_o two_o sundry_a year_n his_o new_a invasion_n mean_v to_o have_v proceed_v therein_o not_o with_o such_o great_a preparation_n as_o he_o do_v at_o the_o first_o but_o only_o to_o have_v begin_v the_o same_o by_o take_v some_o port_n westward_o towards_o which_o he_o come_v so_o far_o onward_o as_o silley_n with_o his_o fleet._n at_o both_o which_o time_n god_n who_o still_o have_v fight_v for_o her_o majesty_n and_o this_o realm_n do_v notable_o prevent_v he_o by_o such_o wind_n and_o tempest_n as_o the_o most_o of_o his_o ship_n and_o man_n perish_v in_o the_o sea_n as_o they_o be_v come_v hitherward_o furthermore_o the_o say_v good_a father_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o all_o the_o say_v traitorous_a enterprise_n both_o at_o home_n and_o abroad_o devise_v and_o set_v forward_o by_o he_o and_o his_o companion_n be_v plod_v among_o his_o paper_n and_o play_v the_o herald_n how_o if_o all_o his_o say_a wicked_a designment_n fail_v he_o may_v at_o the_o least_o entitle_v the_o king_n of_o spain_n and_o consequent_o the_o infanta_n his_o daughter_n to_o the_o crown_n and_o kingdom_n of_o england_n to_o which_o purpose_n he_o frame_v and_o afterward_o publish_v a_o book_n wherewith_o he_o acquaint_v the_o student_n in_o those_o seminary_n in_o spain_n and_o labour_v nothing_o more_o than_o to_o have_v their_o subscription_n to_o the_o say_a infantae_n title_n therein_o promise_v unto_o she_o their_o present_a allegiance_n as_o unto_o their_o lawful_a sovereign_n and_o that_o when_o they_o shall_v be_v send_v into_o their_o country_n they_o shall_v persuade_v the_o catholic_n there_o to_o do_v the_o like_a without_o any_o further_a expectation_n of_o the_o queen_n of_o england_n death_n as_o mr._n charles_n paget_n affirm_v in_o his_o book_n against_o parson_n we_o speak_v of_o the_o seminary_n in_o spain_n before_o somewhat_o suspicious_o and_o now_o you_o see_v the_o reason_n that_o move_v we_o so_o to_o do_v beside_o we_o do_v not_o doubt_v but_o that_o in_o the_o peruse_n of_o this_o our_o discourse_n you_o will_v be_v assault_v with_o many_o strange_a cogitation_n concern_v our_o full_a intent_n and_o meaning_n therein_o which_o although_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o that_o it_o do_v already_o in_o part_n appear_v unto_o you_o yet_o now_o we_o come_v to_o a_o more_o clear_a and_o plain_a declaration_n of_o our_o purpose_n you_o see_v into_o what_o hatred_n the_o wicked_a attempt_n of_o the_o jesuit_n against_o her_o majesty_n and_o the_o state_n have_v bring_v not_o only_o all_o catholic_n in_o general_a but_o more_o especial_o we_o that_o be_v secular_a priest_n although_o we_o do_v ever_o dislike_n and_o blame_v they_o nay_o detest_v and_o hate_v they_o no_o man_n more_o for_o any_o of_o we_o to_o have_v be_v bring_v up_o in_o the_o seminary_n beyond_o the_o sea_n have_v be_v and_o still_o be_v as_o you_o know_v a_o matter_n here_o very_o odious_a and_o to_o we_o full_o of_o danger_n but_o by_o father_n parson_n course_n with_o the_o seminary_n in_o spain_n and_o now_o that_o he_o be_v rector_n of_o the_o english_a seminary_n in_o rome_n and_o so_o take_v upon_o he_o by_o his_o favour_n there_o to_o direct_v and_o command_v all_o the_o rest_n what_o will_v the_o state_n here_o think_v of_o the_o priest_n that_o shall_v come_v from_o any_o of_o those_o seminary_n hereafter_o where_o they_o must_v be_v bring_v up_o according_a to_o the_o jesuitical_a humour_n and_o send_v hither_o with_o such_o direction_n as_o shall_v be_v thereunto_o agreeable_a the_o say_a book_n of_o title_n compile_v by_o parson_n be_v here_o very_a well_o know_v almost_o to_o the_o whole_a realm_n and_o mr._n charles_n paget_n have_v not_o be_v silent_a as_o touch_v the_o infanta_n and_o the_o bring_v up_o of_o student_n to_o be_v send_v hither_o as_o priest_n to_o promote_v her_o title_n sundry_a sharp_a course_n have_v be_v take_v already_o with_o we_o and_o many_o law_n be_v make_v against_o we_o but_o now_o what_o may_v we_o expect_v but_o all_o the_o cruelty_n that_o ever_o be_v devise_v against_o any_o man_n if_o the_o state_n shall_v think_v both_o we_o and_o all_o other_o catholic_n to_o be_v either_o addict_v or_o any_o way_n incline_v to_o the_o advancement_n of_o any_o foreign_a title_n against_o her_o majesty_n or_o her_o
great_o to_o the_o dishonour_n of_o religion_n we_o detest_v and_o abhor_v and_o in_o all_o these_o jesuitical_a and_o disloyal_a practice_n this_o be_v our_o comfort_n that_o albeit_o we_o doubt_v
