his_o or_o their_o use_n after_o demand_v as_o aforesaid_a that_o in_o every_o such_o case_n the_o say_a postmaster_n general_n shall_v forfeit_v the_o sum_n of_o five_o pound_n sterling_a the_o one_o for_o horse_n and_o pack_v as_o it_o now_o stand_v any_o law_n or_o statute_n to_o the_o contrary_a in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o kent_n wildes_n of_o surrey_n sussex_n kent_n provide_v likewise_o and_o be_v it_o enact_v that_o this_o act_n shall_v not_o extend_v to_o exempt_v any_o owner_n farmer_n or_o lessée_v of_o any_o iron_n work_n or_o other_o person_n within_o the_o wildes_n fit_v for_o the_o passage_n of_o cart_n and_o carriage_n in_o the_o room_n and_o place_n of_o a_o bridge_n now_o only_o passable_a for_o foot_n and_o horse_n call_v stratford-bridge_n in_o the_o parish_n of_o hillingdon_n in_o the_o say_a county_n middlesex_n stratford_n bridge_n hillingdon_n middlesex_n or_o in_o some_o other_o more_o convenient_a place_n near_o thereunto_o at_o the_o present_a charge_n of_o the_o whole_a county_n for_o the_o erect_n of_o the_o same_o but_o

headborough_n or_o tythingman_n of_o the_o respective_a place_n where_o the_o estate_n real_a or_o personal_a of_o such_o offender_n so_o to_o be_v transport_v shall_v happen_v to_o be_v command_v they_o thereby_o to_o sequester_n into_o their_o hand_n the_o profit_n of_o the_o land_n and_o to_o distrain_v and_o sell_v the_o good_n of_o the_o offender_n so_o to_o be_v transport_v for_o the_o reimburse_n of_o the_o say_a sheriff_n all_o such_o reasonable_a charge_n as_o he_o shall_v be_v at_o and_o shall_v be_v allow_v he_o by_o the_o say_v respective_a court_n for_o such_o convey_v and_o any_o such_o panel_n any_o person_n unless_o he_o shall_v then_o have_v twenty_o pound_n or_o eight_o pound_n respective_o by_o the_o year_n at_o least_o as_o aforesaid_a in_o the_o same_o county_n where_o the_o issue_n be_v to_o be_v try_v upon_o pain_n to_o forfeit_v for_o every_o person_n be_v return_v in_o any_o such_o panel_n that_o shall_v not_o then_o have_v twenty_o pound_n or_o eight_o pound_n respective_o as_o be_v aforesaid_a the_o sum_n of_o five_o pound_n to_o his_o majesty_n his_o heir_n and_o successor_n and_o for_o the_o better_a enable_v the_o sheriff_n of_o every_o county_n to_o know_v the_o value_n of_o the_o estate_n of_o such_o person_n as_o be_v by_o the_o true_a intent_n and_o meaning_n of_o this_o act_n to_o be_v return_v for_o juryman_n be_v it_o further_o enact_v juryman_n how_o the_o sheriff_n shall_v find_v out_o person_n fit_a to_o be_v return_v for_o juryman_n that_o every_o sheriff_n shall_v on_o the_o first_o day_n of_o every_o general_n quarter-session_n yearly_o hold_v next_o after_o the_o feast_n of_o easter_n deliver_v or_o cause_n to_o be_v deliver_v unto_o the_o justice_n of_o peace_n sit_v at_o the_o same_o session_n the_o name_n of_o all_o person_n of_o such_o estate_n as_o be_v by_o the_o true_a meaning_n of_o this_o act_n to_o be_v return_v for_o juryman_n to_o the_o end_n the_o estate_n of_o such_o person_n may_v be_v inquire_v after_o and_o such_o person_n approve_v of_o by_o the_o say_a justice_n of_o peace_n or_o the_o great_a number_n of_o they_o then_o present_a to_o be_v person_n of_o such_o estate_n to_o be_v returnable_a for_o juryman_n for_o the_o year_n than_o next_o ensue_v and_o the_o say_a justice_n shall_v have_v power_n to_o add_v such_o person_n have_v estate_n of_o the_o respective_a value_v before_o mention_v as_o they_o shall_v find_v to_o be_v omit_v by_o the_o sheriff_n among_o the_o name_n by_o he_o deliver_v and_o such_o competent_a number_n and_o no_o more_o of_o such_o person_n as_o aforesaid_a shall_v be_v returnable_a to_o serve_v of_o jury_n for_o the_o year_n next_o ensue_v as_o the_o say_a justice_n or_o the_o great_a number_n of_o they_o as_o aforesaid_a shall_v think_v fit_a and_o that_o no_o sheriff_n shall_v incur_v the_o penalty_n aforesaid_a for_o return_v any_o of_o the_o person_n so_o approve_v or_o add_v by_o the_o justice_n in_o case_n his_o estate_n fall_v out_o to_o be_v of_o less_o value_n then_o aforesaid_a and_o it_o be_v further_o enact_v that_o no_o sheriff_n or_o bailiff_n of_o any_o liberty_n or_o franchise_n appearance_n what_o time_n summon_v aught_o to_o be_v before_o appearance_n or_o any_o of_o their_o or_o either_o of_o their_o minister_n shall_v return_v any_o such_o person_n or_o person_n as_o aforesaid_a to_o have_v be_v summon_v by_o they_o or_o any_o of_o they_o unless_o such_o person_n or_o person_n shall_v have_v be_v due_o summon_v by_o the_o space_n of_o six_o day_n at_o the_o least_o before_o the_o day_n on_o which_o they_o ought_v to_o make_v their_o appearance_n and_o have_v leave_v with_o or_o for_o such_o person_n in_o write_v the_o name_n of_o all_o the_o party_n in_o those_o cause_n wherein_o corpora_fw-la or_o distringas_fw-la shall_v be_v sue_v out_o like_v as_o be_v use_v in_o all_o other_o county_n within_o this_o kingdom_n returnable_a at_o the_o then_o next_o assize_n and_o the_o good_a and_o lawful_a man_n so_o qualify_v as_o before_o in_o this_o act_n be_v appoint_v out_o of_o every_o of_o the_o six_o hundred_o within_o the_o say_v county-palatine_a to_o be_v due_o summon_v or_o warn_v ten_o day_n at_o the_o least_o before_o the_o begin_n of_o every_o assize_n to_o be_v and_o appear_v the_o first_o day_n of_o the_o then_o next_o assize_n and_o there_o to_o attend_v during_o the_o same_o assize_n to_o perform_v their_o duty_n and_o service_n to_o the_o court_n as_o juror_n or_o juryman_n in_o such_o cause_n between_o party_n and_o party_n wherein_o they_o shall_v be_v respective_o return_v and_o empanel_v upon_o pain_n that_o every_o of_o they_o that_o shall_v make_v default_n to_o appear_v and_o attend_v at_o and_o during_o the_o say_a assize_n to_o forfeit_v assemble_v and_o by_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o same_o that_o from_o and_o after_o the_o eight_o day_n of_o november_n excise_n power_n give_v to_o farmer_n of_o excise_n which_o shall_v be_v in_o the_o year_n of_o our_o lord_n one_o thousand_o six_o hundred_o sixty_o and_o five_o all_o farmer_n of_o excise_n or_o any_o of_o they_o within_o the_o several_a circuit_n and_o division_n of_o revenue_n of_o excise_n 12_o 12_o car._n 2._o cap._n 24._o 15_o car._n 2._o cap._n 11._o &_o cap._n 12_o except_o the_o judicial_a part_n of_o hear_v and_o determine_v all_o breach_n and_o offence_n against_o the_o law_n of_o excise_n and_o of_o impose_v mitigate_a or_o compound_v of_o fine_n or_o penalty_n cap._n v._n delay_n in_o extend_v statute_n judgement_n and_o recognizance_n prevent_v staple_n security_n by_o statute_n
the_o ancient_a highway_n and_o post-road_n lead_v from_o london_n to_o york_n lincolnshire_n london_n york_n lincolnshire_n and_o from_o london_n into_o lincolnshire_n there_o shall_v be_v a_o toll_n pay_v at_o a_o certain_a place_n in_o every_o of_o the_o say_v several_a and_o respective_a county_n and_o for_o hertfordshire_n at_o wades-mill_n in_o the_o say_a county_n which_o say_v toll_n so_o set_v be_v by_o the_o say_a act_n to_o continue_v the_o space_n of_o eleven_o year_n and_o no_o long_o with_o this_o provision_n that_o if_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n at_o their_o quarter_n session_n in_o the_o respective_a county_n shall_v before_o the_o expiration_n of_o eleven_o year_n adjudge_v the_o say_v repair_v to_o be_v sufficient_o do_v that_o from_o thenceforth_o it_o shall_v cease_v and_o whereas_o divers_a gentleman_n within_o the_o county_n of_o hertford_n have_v hearty_o set_v themselves_o to_o take_v care_n for_o the_o repair_n of_o the_o say_a way_n within_o their_o county_n and_o in_o order_n thereunto_o find_v that_o money_n can_v not_o be_v advance_v by_o the_o toll_n in_o so_o speedy_a a_o manner_n as_o to_o repair_v those_o ruinous_a way_n and_o that_o none_o will_v lend_v their_o money_n on_o that_o security_n do_v upon_o their_o own_o credit_n borrow_v thirtéen_v hundred_o pound_n on_o interest_n to_o effect_v the_o work_n intend_v by_o the_o say_a act_n which_o sum_v according_o be_v lay_v out_o together_o with_o such_o money_n as_o have_v proceed_v from_o the_o toll_n before_o mention_v in_o the_o repair_n of_o the_o say_a highway_n by_o which_o mean_n they_o have_v so_o amend_v the_o say_a road_n lie_v in_o that_o county_n lead_v from_o london_n to_o york_n that_o they_o have_v make_v the_o same_o from_o a_o road_n impassable_a to_o be_v to_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o all_o that_o travel_v that_o way_n very_o passable_a and_o convenient_a but_o by_o reason_n of_o the_o great_a sum_n expend_v and_o lay_v out_o so_o borrow_v as_o aforesaid_a the_o toll_n will_v not_o be_v sufficient_a to_o repay_v the_o same_o within_o the_o year_n mention_v in_o the_o former_a act_n with_o interest_n for_o the_o same_o and_o to_o finish_v the_o say_a work_n barley_n hertford_n cambridg_n norfolk_n newmarket_n puckridge_n barley_n and_o whereas_o there_o be_v a_o road_n in_o the_o say_a county_n of_o hertford_n that_o lead_v from_o london_n to_o cambridg_v and_o so_o into_o norfolk_n and_o likewise_o to_o newmarket_n and_o so_o into_o suffolk_n and_o other_o part_n which_o go_v out_o of_o the_o forementioned_a road_n at_o the_o end_n of_o the_o town_n of_o puckridge_n and_o so_o lead_v to_o barley_n in_o the_o say_a county_n of_o hertford_n which_o be_v very_o ruinous_a and_o require_v as_o much_o the_o help_n of_o the_o toll_n in_o many_o place_n as_o the_o forementioned_a road_n do_v may_v it_o therefore_o please_v your_o majesty_n that_o it_o be_v enact_v and_o be_v it_o enact_v by_o the_o king_n most_o excellent_a majesty_n by_o and_o with_o the_o advice_n and_o consent_n of_o the_o lord_n spiritual_a and_o temporal_a and_o the_o commons_o in_o this_o present_a parliament_n assemble_v and_o by_o authority_n of_o the_o same_o that_o the_o toll_n aforementioned_a to_o be_v take_v at_o wades-mill_n for_o the_o county_n of_o hertford_n continue_v ii_o the_o full_a take_v at_o wades-mill_n continue_v that_o by_o the_o former_a act_n be_v to_o continue_v for_o eleven_o year_n and_o no_o long_o shall_v continue_v for_o the_o say_a county_n of_o hertford_n for_o the_o space_n of_o one_o and_o twenty_o year_n and_o no_o long_o the_o say_a term_n to_o commence_v from_o the_o time_n mention_v in_o the_o act_n before_o mention_v and_o the_o money_n arise_v therefrom_o to_o be_v employ_v for_o the_o payment_n of_o the_o debt_n aforesaid_a with_o interest_n and_o also_o for_o further_a repair_n of_o the_o highway_n it_o be_v further_a enact_v and_o declare_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o person_n empower_v in_o the_o forementioned_a act_n for_o the_o repair_n of_o the_o highway_n within_o the_o county_n of_o hertford_n shall_v have_v the_o same_o power_n to_o repair_v the_o say_a highway_n lead_v from_o puckridge_n to_o barley_n in_o the_o say_a county_n barley_n for_o repair_v the_o highway_n from_o puckeridg_n to_o barley_n as_o they_o have_v to_o repair_v the_o highway_n in_o the_o say_a county_n lead_v from_o london_n to_o york_n and_o that_o they_o shall_v and_o may_v apply_v such_o part_n of_o the_o toll_n thereunto_o have_v a_o equal_a care_n of_o both_o highway_n as_o they_o in_o their_o judgement_n shall_v find_v needful_a any_o thing_n in_o the_o say_v former_a act_n to_o the_o contrary_a notwithstanding_o caxton_n caxton_n and_o whereas_o by_o the_o former_a recite_v act_n a_o toll_n be_v erect_v and_o set_v to_o be_v take_v at_o the_o town_n of_o caxton_n in_o the_o county_n of_o cambridge_n for_o and_o towards_o the_o repair_n the_o highway_n in_o the_o say_a county_n the_o say_a toll_n do_v prove_v useless_a and_o will_v not_o answer_v the_o end_n for_o which_o the_o same_o be_v intend_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o inconveniency_n of_o the_o place_n where_o the_o same_o be_v set_v arrington-bridg_n arrington-bridg_n be_v it_o therefore_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o say_a toll_n be_v and_o be_v hereby_o remove_v from_o the_o say_a town_n of_o caxton_n unto_o arrington-bridg_n or_o the_o town_n of_o arrington_n as_o shall_v seem_v most_o convenient_a by_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o say_a county_n at_o their_o next_o easter_n general-quarter-session_n of_o the_o peace_n in_o the_o county_n aforesaid_a and_o that_o the_o same_o toll_n shall_v be_v take_v and_o receive_v at_o arrington-bridg_n or_o arrington-town_n aforesaid_a according_a to_o the_o rate_n and_o by_o the_o same_o way_n and_o mean_v as_o in_o the_o former_a act_n be_v appoint_v and_o declare_v and_o to_o be_v employ_v to_o the_o use_n purpose_n and_o intent_n therein_o also_o declare_v any_o thing_n to_o the_o contrary_a in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o highway_n a_o charge_n of_o six_o penny_n in_o the_o pound_n for_o repair_v the_o say_a highway_n provide_v always_o that_o all_o and_o every_o person_n and_o person_n who_o by_o law_n be_v chargeable_a towards_o the_o repair_n of_o the_o say_a highway_n and_o place_n aforesaid_a shall_v still_o remain_v so_o chargeable_a and_o pay_v six_o penny_n in_o the_o pound_n yearly_a according_a to_o the_o true_a value_n of_o their_o estate_n for_o and_o towards_o the_o repair_n of_o the_o say_a highway_n during_o the_o time_n of_o the_o continuance_n of_o this_o toll_n any_o thing_n in_o this_o act_n to_o the_o contrary_a thereof_o in_o any_o wise_n notwithstanding_o weekly_o iii_o the_o collector_n of_o the_o toll_n how_o to_o account_v weekly_o and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o collector_n of_o this_o toll_n shall_v wéek_o account_v to_o the_o receiver-general_n for_o the_o whole_a money_n receive_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o or_o the_o say_v former_a act_n and_o the_o next_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n for_o the_o say_a county_n shall_v hereby_o have_v power_n to_o give_v a_o oath_n to_o the_o say_a collector_n for_o the_o make_n of_o a_o true_a and_o perfect_a account_n of_o the_o money_n so_o receive_v which_o say_v account_v so_o make_v shall_v be_v return_v into_o the_o next_o general-quarter-session_n to_o be_v hold_v for_o the_o say_a county_n by_o the_o justice_n of_o peace_n before_o who_o such_o oath_n be_v take_v toll_n proviso_n touch_v the_o continuance_n or_o determine_v the_o say_a toll_n provide_v also_o that_o if_o at_o money_n so_o borrow_v and_o lay_v out_o as_o aforesaid_a the_o aforesaid_a toll_n in_o the_o say_a county_n shall_v cease_v and_o determine_v highway_n proviso_n for_o adjudication_n of_o the_o amendment_n of_o the_o say_a highway_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o in_o case_n the_o highway_n within_o the_o say_a county_n of_o hertford_n shall_v be_v sufficient_o amend_v and_o that_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n at_o their_o quarter-session_n shall_v fail_v to_o make_v a_o adjudication_n thereof_o that_o then_o in_o such_o default_n of_o the_o say_a justice_n of_o the_o peace_n
