and_o for_o which_o they_o be_v most_o eager_a and_o this_o they_o can_v by_o no_o mean_n bear_v from_o they_o as_o they_o that_o entertain_v christ_n to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o the_o saviour_n of_o the_o world_n when_o he_o be_v conversant_a upon_o the_o earth_n and_o in_o the_o time_n that_o follow_v next_o after_o his_o incarnation_n passion_n and_o ascension_n they_o do_v the_o mercy_n and_o the_o love_n he_o manifest_v to_o his_o people_n and_o when_o he_o lay_v about_o he_o and_o slash_n down_o the_o enemy_n in_o heap_n he_o seem_v to_o forget_v the_o hatred_n that_o he_o bear_v to_o they_o and_o to_o think_v of_o nothing_o else_o but_o mercy_n mercy_n to_o his_o saint_n thus_o i_o kill_v they_o and_o destroy_v they_o because_o my_o mercy_n etc._n etc._n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o learn_v to_o look_v upon_o it_o so_o to_o have_v such_o thought_n and_o apprehension_n upon_o such_o occasion_n and_o that_o the_o rather_o because_o there_o be_v a_o inconveniency_n in_o it_o many_o time_n when_o we_o behold_v christ_n in_o another_o way_n we_o look_v upon_o the_o judgement_n which_o he_o wreak_v and_o execute_v upon_o the_o enemy_n and_o persecuter_n of_o the_o church_n as_o if_o he_o bring_v they_o on_o they_o out_o of_o such_o a_o hatred_n to_o they_o as_o we_o ourselves_o be_v apt_a to_o have_v and_o so_o our_o heart_n be_v carry_v out_o in_o way_n of_o malice_n and_o we_o make_v christ_n upon_o the_o matter_n but_o the_o instrument_n of_o our_o revenge_n whereas_o if_o we_o do_v apprehend_v he_o as_o aim_v not_o so_o much_o at_o the_o destruction_n and_o ruin_n of_o the_o wicked_a as_o at_o the_o good_a and_o preservation_n of_o his_o people_n and_o as_o administration_n of_o his_o power_n which_o he_o see_v necessary_a for_o the_o peace_n and_o welfare_n of_o the_o saint_n our_o heart_n will_v be_v in_o a_o more_o sweet_a and_o holy_a temper_n than_o they_o be_v sometime_o in_o such_o case_n for_o than_o my_o brethren_n we_o shall_v see_v the_o love_n of_o christ_n in_o all_o these_o dispensation_n of_o his_o wrath_n the_o more_o his_o anger_n be_v declare_v at_o any_o time_n against_o the_o wicked_a the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v take_v up_o with_o thought_n and_o apprehension_n of_o his_o love_n to_o we_o the_o great_a fury_n and_o displeasure_n he_o reveal_v against_o they_o the_o more_o we_o shall_v be_v lead_v to_o contemplation_n of_o his_o mercy_n to_o ourselves_o oh_o what_o be_v we_o that_o he_o shall_v have_v such_o dear_a respect_n to_o we_o that_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o angry_a with_o jesus_n christ_n have_v other_o purpose_n then_o these_o whatever_o you_o conceive_v of_o he_o he_o come_v not_o to_o judge_v the_o world_n but_o that_o the_o world_n by_o he_o may_v be_v save_v he_o come_v not_o to_o destroy_v you_o but_o to_o save_v his_o own_o people_n and_o therefore_o if_o you_o be_v destroy_v thank_v yourselves_o and_o not_o he_o your_o help_n if_o you_o have_v any_o be_v of_o he_o but_o your_o destruction_n be_v of_o yourselves_o do_v but_o consider_v i_o beseech_v you_o what_o christ_n have_v do_v what_o mean_v he_o have_v afford_v you_o for_o your_o salvation_n he_o have_v assume_v your_o nature_n who_o be_v reprobate_n as_o well_o as_o you_o who_o be_v elect_v he_o have_v lay_v down_o a_o price_n of_o worth_a sufficient_a in_o itself_o for_o your_o salvation_n so_o that_o there_o be_v not_o one_o of_o you_o exclude_v from_o it_o because_o it_o will_v not_o reach_v to_o you_o as_o well_o as_o other_o because_o it_o be_v too_o narrow_a and_o too_o scant_o to_o satisfy_v for_o all_o if_o all_o shall_v apprehend_v it_o and_o lie_v hold_v upon_o it_o no_o he_o have_v order_v matter_n so_o that_o there_o be_v enough_o put_v in_o not_o for_o believer_n only_o but_o for_o they_o that_o perish_v too_o and_o that_o which_o be_v put_v in_o as_o it_o be_v sufficient_a for_o you_o so_o it_o be_v applicable_a to_o you_o as_o well_o as_o other_o as_o it_o be_v pay_v in_o your_o nature_n so_o any_o of_o your_o nature_n may_v partake_v it_o if_o they_o will_v lay_v hold_n upon_o it_o it_o be_v a_o satisfaction_n which_o nothing_o but_o your_o unbelief_n and_o your_o refusal_n can_v make_v you_o uncapable_a of_o and_o hence_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v a_o tender_a of_o it_o to_o be_v make_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v preach_v to_o you_o as_o well_o as_o other_o so_o run_v the_o tenor_n of_o his_o own_o commission_n go_v preach_v the_o gospel_n to_o every_o creature_n tell_v every_o man_n without_o exception_n that_o there_o be_v good_a news_n for_o he_o that_o christ_n be_v dead_a for_o he_o if_o he_o embrace_v he_o yea_o christ_n himself_o do_v by_o his_o messenger_n persuade_v you_o yea_o entreat_v
fear_v the_o word_n of_o the_o god_n of_o israel_n that_o be_v his_o threaten_a word_n as_o appear_v by_o that_o which_o follow_v because_o of_o their_o transgression_n nay_o the_o apostle_n james_n affirm_v of_o the_o very_a devil_n that_o even_o they_o believe_v and_o tremble_v jam._n 2.19_o they_o believe_v the_o commination_n and_o they_o quake_v and_o tremble_v at_o they_o and_o very_o the_o same_o effect_n will_v they_o produce_v in_o man_n if_o they_o do_v but_o believe_v they_o as_o the_o devil_n do_v but_o alas_o how_o many_o be_v there_o who_o have_v no_o such_o thing_n in_o they_o who_o though_o they_o hear_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n denounce_v and_o though_o they_o see_v his_o vengeance_n execute_v on_o ungodly_a man_n before_o their_o eye_n in_o a_o very_a dreadful_a manner_n yet_o be_v not_o move_v or_o trouble_v at_o it_o in_o any_o measure_n or_o degree_n by_o which_o it_o be_v apparent_a that_o they_o have_v no_o faith_n in_o they_o 2._o second_o if_o you_o believe_v the_o threaten_n you_o will_v take_v some_o course_n or_o other_o to_o avert_v the_o evil_n threaten_v it_o be_v observe_v of_o the_o ninvite_v that_o they_o believe_v god_n believe_v he_o in_o the_o threaten_a message_n he_o send_v they_o by_o the_o prophet_n jonah_n 3.5_o and_o what_o follow_v they_o proclaim_v a_o fast_a and_o put_v on_o sackcloth_n and_o turn_v every_o one_o from_o his_o evil_a way_n from_o the_o violence_n that_o be_v in_o his_o hand_n they_o that_o be_v never_o trouble_v for_o the_o sin_n which_o god_n threaten_v never_o endeavour_v reformation_n but_o continue_v as_o they_o be_v wicked_a and_o unclean_a still_o do_v not_o believe_v his_o commination_n they_o look_v upon_o they_o but_o as_o bruta_fw-la fulmina_fw-la and_o empty_a scare_n crow_n which_o though_o they_o may_v fright_v other_o so_o as_o to_o drive_v they_o out_o of_o their_o belove_a sin_n they_o be_v resolve_v they_o shall_v never_o scare_v they_o so_o as_o to_o work_v the_o small_a change_n or_o the_o least_o amendment_n in_o they_o there_o be_v a_o three_o sort_n yet_o behind_o and_o they_o be_v such_o as_o do_v not_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n they_o do_v not_o act_v their_o faith_n upon_o they_o they_o do_v not_o keep_v they_o in_o their_o heart_n by_o believe_v and_o true_o there_o be_v multitude_n that_o fail_v in_o this_o particular_a as_o be_v apparent_a by_o these_o symptom_n follow_v viz._n 1._o because_o they_o be_v so_o full_a of_o fear_n they_o walk_v so_o sad_o and_o diject_o faith_n in_o the_o promise_n will_v fill_v the_o heart_n with_o joy_n and_o comfort_n in_o the_o worst_a of_o time_n and_o the_o sharp_a of_o suffering_n believe_v we_o rejoice_v with_o the_o apostle_n and_o that_o with_o joy_n unspeakable_a and_o glorious_a 1_o pet._n 1.8_o you_o can_v think_v of_o any_o trial_n any_o trouble_n whether_o inward_a in_o the_o soul_n or_o outward_a in_o the_o body_n name_n estate_n but_o there_o be_v a_o promise_n for_o it_o to_o clear_v and_o comfort_v and_o support_v the_o soul_n in_o it_o and_o if_o the_o promise_n be_v believe_v the_o soul_n can_v be_v void_a of_o comfort_n it_o will_v revive_v the_o sad_a heart_n it_o be_v for_o want_v of_o faith_n that_o man_n be_v so_o oppress_v with_o grief_n and_o sorrow_n 2._o it_o be_v too_o evident_a that_o man_n do_v not_o believe_v the_o promise_n of_o god_n because_o they_o be_v so_o full_a of_o doubt_n and_o fear_n so_o full_a of_o endless_a care_n and_o trouble_n and_o distraction_n brethren_n there_o be_v no_o end_n of_o the_o care_n and_o fear_n of_o man_n of_o their_o question_n and_o debate_n until_o they_o come_v to_o pitch_v upon_o the_o promise_n till_o they_o come_v to_o rest_v on_o this_o god_n have_v say_v it_o i_o have_v god_n in_o bond_n for_o it_o he_o have_v undertake_v it_o who_o live_v for_o ever_o in_o who_o be_v everlasting_a strength_n the_o soul_n will_v never_o be_v at_o quiet_a it_o will_v be_v shake_v as_o the_o tree_n in_o the_o forest_n as_o isa_n 7.2_o oh_o think_v a_o poor_a wretch_n if_o i_o shall_v live_v till_o i_o be_v blind_a till_o i_o be_v impotent_a till_o i_o have_v spend_v all_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v what_o shall_v my_o wife_n and_o child_n do_v what_o if_o i_o lose_v such_o a_o friend_n or_o such_o a_o comfort_n so_o rich_a man_n have_v as_o much_o trouble_n what_o if_o the_o time_n shall_v frown_v upon_o i_o what_o if_o malicious_a man_n shall_v swear_v against_o i_o what_o if_o the_o enemy_n break_v in_o upon_o i_o and_o plunder_v i_o etc._n etc._n and_o a_o thousand_o of_o these_o doubt_n and_o fear_n man_n have_v and_o whence_o be_v all_o these_o true_o they_o be_v not_o so_o much_o from_o the_o greatness_n of_o their_o danger_n as_o from_o the_o smallness_n of_o their_o faith_n o_o you_o of_o little_a faith_n wherefore_o do_v you_o doubt_v whence_o be_v your_o doubt_n trouble_n and_o perplexity_n but_o because_o you_o do_v not_o keep_v the_o word_n of_o promise_n in_o your_o heart_n by_o believe_v you_o do_v not_o act_v your_o faith_n upon_o that_o word_n of_o god_n that_o he_o will_v never_o fail_v you_o nor_o forsake_v you_o belove_a let_v a_o man_n look_v where_o he_o will_v there_o be_v a_o a_o man_n can_v never_o be_v secure_a in_o they_o and_o therefore_o if_o you_o will_v be_v settle_v and_o secure_v for_o the_o future_a build_v on_o god_n and_o on_o the_o promise_n say_v not_o i_o have_v such_o a_o parent_n such_o a_o friend_n and_o he_o will_v provide_v for_o i_o he_o will_v see_v i_o shall_v not_o want_v i_o have_v such_o income_n by_o the_o year_n such_o a_o trade_n such_o a_o estate_n such_o a_o power_n on_o my_o side_n the_o conclusion_n will_v not_o hold_v but_o say_v rather_o i_o have_v such_o a_o god_n and_o such_o a_o promise_n god_n have_v say_v that_o he_o will_v feed_v i_o and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v be_v feed_v god_n have_v say_v that_o he_o will_v keep_v i_o and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v be_v keep_v god_n have_v say_v that_o he_o will_v pardon_v i_o and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v be_v forgive_v 3._o it_o be_v apparent_a that_o man_n do_v not_o believe_v the_o promise_n because_o they_o be_v inconstant_a and_o uncertain_a in_o their_o way_n they_o know_v not_o what_o to_o do_v nor_o where_o to_o live_v nor_o what_o side_n to_o stick_v to_o they_o be_v toss_v to_o and_o fro_o they_o be_v on_o and_o off_o again_o and_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o this_o true_o it_o be_v for_o want_v of_o faith_n upon_o the_o promise_n for_o that_o will_v settle_v they_o and_o root_v they_o but_o on_o the_o other_o side_n say_v god_n and_o bind_v it_o with_o a_o strong_a asseveration_n too_o if_o you_o will_v not_o believe_v sure_o you_o shall_v not_o be_v establish_v isa_n 7.9_o you_o will_v be_v thus_o unstable_a still_o and_o fickle_a still_o unless_o you_o pitch_v by_o faith_n upon_o the_o promise_n 4._o it_o be_v apparent_a that_o man_n do_v not_o believe_v the_o promise_n because_o they_o will_v suffer_v nothing_o for_o it_o bond_n imprisonment_n when_o they_o be_v stone_v saw_v asunder_o what_o make_v they_o able_a to_o endure_v such_o thing_n and_o not_o to_o accept_v deliverance_n when_o it_o be_v offer_v if_o they_o will_v have_v yield_v and_o comply_v a_o little_a it_o be_v their_o faith_n as_o you_o may_v see_v heb._n 11.33_o 37._o by_o faith_n upon_o the_o promise_n they_o attain_v to_o this_o strength_n
