deceive_v and_o therefore_o although_o gentle_a sentence_n be_v useful_a when_o there_o be_v danger_n of_o despair_n or_o contumacy_n yet_o that_o be_v rather_o a_o palliation_n of_o a_o disease_n than_o a_o cure_n and_o therefore_o the_o method_n must_v be_v change_v as_o soon_o as_o it_o can_v and_o the_o severe_a and_o true_a sermon_n of_o the_o gospel_n must_v be_v either_o proclaim_v aloud_o or_o insinuate_v prudent_o and_o secret_o and_o man_n be_v teach_v to_o rely_v upon_o they_o and_o their_o consequent_n and_o upon_o nothing_o else_o for_o they_o will_v not_o deceive_v we_o but_o the_o corrupt_a manner_n of_o man_n and_o the_o corrupt_a doctrine_n of_o some_o school_n have_v make_v it_o almost_o impossible_a to_o govern_v soul_n as_o they_o need_v to_o be_v govern_v the_o church_n may_v indeed_o choose_v whether_o she_o will_v impose_v on_o criminal_n any_o exterior_a signification_n of_o repentance_n but_o accept_v they_o to_o the_o communion_n upon_o their_o own_o account_n of_o a_o sincere_a conversion_n and_o inward_a contrition_n but_o then_o she_o ought_v to_o do_v this_o upon_o such_o account_n as_o be_v indeed_o real_a and_o sufficient_a and_o effective_a and_o allow_v that_o be_v when_o she_o can_v understand_v that_o such_o a_o emendation_n be_v make_v and_o the_o man_n be_v real_o reform_v she_o can_v pronounce_v he_o pardon_v or_o which_o be_v all_o one_o she_o may_v communicate_v he_o and_o far_a yet_o she_o can_v by_o sermon_n declare_v all_o the_o necessary_a part_n of_o repentance_n and_o the_o condition_n of_o pardon_n and_o can_v pronounce_v limit_v and_o hypothetical_a or_o conditional_a pardon_n concern_v which_o the_o penitent_a must_v take_v care_n that_o they_o do_v belong_v to_o he_o but_o if_o she_o do_v undertake_v to_o conduct_v any_o repentance_n exterious_o it_o be_v to_o very_o little_a purpose_n to_o do_v it_o any_o way_n that_o be_v not_o commensurate_a to_o that_o true_a internal_a repentance_n which_o be_v effective_a of_o pardon_n indeed_o every_o single_a act_n of_o penance_n do_v something_o towards_o it_o but_o why_o something_o shall_v be_v enjoin_v that_o be_v not_o sufficient_a and_o that_o fall_v infinite_o short_a of_o the_o end_n of_o its_o designation_n though_o the_o church_n may_v use_v her_o liberty_n yet_o it_o be_v not_o easy_a to_o understand_v the_o
