self_n sometime_o at_o another_o time_n may_v be_v a_o cause_n of_o fear_n and_o doubt_v to_o he_o not_o but_o that_o that_o which_o distinguish_v a_o true_a christian_a from_o a_o hypocrite_n be_v the_o same_o at_o one_o time_n that_o it_o be_v at_o another_o only_o we_o can_v see_v nor_o discover_v so_o clear_o the_o state_n of_o our_o soul_n towards_o god_n by_o it_o at_o one_o time_n as_o at_o another_o and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o some_o be_v so_o lift_v up_o with_o joy_n yea_o with_o holy_a longing_n of_o soul_n in_o hope_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n when_o other_o be_v cast_v down_o under_o fear_n and_o doubt_n as_o if_o they_o have_v no_o hope_n of_o or_o at_o least_o not_o present_a interest_n in_o or_o title_n unto_o any_o such_o thing_n but_o far_o be_v thou_o fearful_a o_o christian_n of_o thy_o self_n because_o thou_o can_v not_o feel_v this_o ardency_n of_o desire_n in_o thou_o after_o thy_o dissolution_n and_o the_o glorious_a appear_v of_o jesus_n christ_n so_o as_o to_o look_v and_o long_a for_o the_o come_n of_o these_o thing_n why_o know_v o_o trouble_a soul_n that_o every_o character_n of_o a_o christian_a be_v not_o discernible_a by_o all_o christian_n at_o all_o time_n and_o in_o all_o condition_n thou_o may_v have_v that_o in_o thou_o which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o these_o long_a desire_n in_o other_o though_o at_o present_v it_o do_v not_o work_v so_o strong_o in_o thou_o that_o thou_o may_v sensible_o feel_v the_o power_n of_o its_o operation_n thus_o draw_v forth_o thy_o heart_n and_o affection_n in_o this_o ardent_a and_o vehement_a manner_n grace_n though_o weak_a and_o in_o the_o seed_n have_v a_o tendency_n in_o it_o and_o be_v make_v out_o after_o this_o holy_a longing_n and_o rejoice_v of_o soul_n in_o hope_n of_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n though_o there_o may_v be_v the_o intervention_n of_o some_o time_n before_o there_o be_v a_o attain_n to_o it_o if_o there_o be_v the_o remainder_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o bondage_n in_o thou_o to_o fear_v in_o this_o case_n grace_n in_o thou_o be_v not_o come_v to_o that_o perfection_n that_o it_o be_v in_o other_o but_o yet_o it_o will_v be_v grow_v and_o increase_n in_o thou_o and_o as_o thy_o grace_n grow_v strong_a and_o strong_a so_o will_v thy_o fear_n of_o death_n and_o judgement_n grow_v weak_a and_o weak_a furthermore_o o_o trouble_a soul_n though_o thou_o can_v not_o feel_v thy_o soul_n breathe_v forth_o itself_o in_o these_o holy_a long_n &_o desire_n after_o thy_o dissolution_n the_o behold_v of_o the_o face_n of_o god_n and_o the_o appearance_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n yet_o do_v thou_o believe_v that_o it_o will_v be_v incomparable_o better_a for_o thou_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n than_o to_o abide_v here_o on_o earth_n and_o therefore_o though_o death_n be_v dreadful_a to_o think_v of_o in_o itself_o yet_o see_v it_o be_v the_o only_a passage_n through_o which_o god_n have_v appoint_v our_o entrance_n into_o heaven_n though_o thou_o can_v not_o say_v that_o thou_o long_v for_o it_o yet_o be_v thou_o willing_a to_o entertain_v it_o if_o god_n send_v it_o and_o though_o the_o fear_n of_o death_n sometime_o discourage_v thou_o yet_o do_v not_o thy_o belief_n of_o and_o hope_v in_o a_o future_a state_n of_o happiness_n abate_v those_o fear_n consider_v the_o advantage_n that_o will_v follow_v it_o and_o though_o it_o be_v a_o amaze_a thing_n in_o thy_o thought_n to_o think_v of_o come_v before_o the_o great_a and_o holy_a god_n yet_o except_o when_o temptation_n make_v thou_o fear_v that_o god_n will_v condemn_v thou_o for_o thy_o sin_n have_v thou_o not_o rather_o come_v to_o god_n by_o death_n than_o not_o come_v to_o he_o at_o all_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o who_o be_v thy_o soul_n be_v utmost_a happiness_n and_o though_o the_o sight_n of_o christ_n come_v in_o the_o cloud_n at_o the_o day_n of_o judgement_n in_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o father_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a angel_n will_v be_v very_o terrible_a to_o behold_v and_o the_o thought_n thereof_o strike_v thou_o with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a when_o thou_o consider_v thy_o own_o sinfulness_n and_o therefore_o can_v not_o think_v of_o that_o day_n with_o so_o strong_a a_o faith_n and_o consolation_n with_o such_o earnestness_n of_o desire_n and_o holy_a longing_n as_o some_o christian_n do_v yet_o be_v not_o discourage_v though_o thou_o do_v not_o long_o for_o yet_o do_v thou_o love_v the_o appearance_n of_o jesus_n can_v thou_o say_v thou_o will_v not_o take_v all_o the_o pleasure_n of_o this_o world_n for_o thy_o hope_n of_o the_o happiness_n of_o this_o day_n and_o can_v thou_o attain_v to_o that_o full_a assurance_n that_o some_o of_o god_n people_n have_v thou_o will_v then_o with_o earnestness_n of_o desire_n and_o holy_a longing_n of_o soul_n cry_v out_o as_o the_o church_n do_v come_v lord_n jesus_n come_v quick_o be_v it_o thus_o with_o thou_o o_o soul_n why_o then_o be_v not_o trouble_v nay_o be_v comfort_v for_o that_o which_o at_o present_a be_v faith_n hope_n desire_v and_o love_n may_v in_o a_o little_a time_n be_v vehement_a longing_n and_o assurance_n yea_o that_o frame_n of_o soul_n that_o the_o people_n of_o god_n ought_v to_o labour_v after_o and_o which_o many_o have_v attain_v unto_o the_o earnestness_n and_o vehemency_n of_o who_o desire_n have_v panted-aft_a happiness_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n breathe_v forth_o continual_o such_o expression_n as_o these_o for_o many_o hour_n together_o come_v lord_n jesus_n when_o shall_v i_o come_v and_o appear_v before_o thou_o oh_o lord_n when_o lord_n when_o oh_o come_v lord_n jesus_n come_v quick_o and_o thus_o this_o holy_a person_n die_v change_v a_o frail_a mortal_a life_n on_o earth_n house_n which_o be_v from_o heaven_n without_o lay_v down_o the_o earthly_a tabernacle_n of_o their_o body_n in_o the_o grave_a be_v there_o no_o such_o thing_n as_o die_v to_o make_v way_n for_o our_o entrance_n into_o heaven_n how_o delightful_a will_v the_o thought_n of_o heaven_n be_v to_o we_o we_o shall_v not_o then_o run_v with_o patience_n but_o with_o cheerfulness_n the_o race_n and_o overcome_v i_o answer_v not_o by_o ourselves_o for_o death_n seem_v rather_o to_o have_v destroy_v we_o than_o we_o it_o when_o it_o bring_v the_o body_n down_o into_o the_o grave_a and_o turn_v it_o into_o corruption_n and_o rottenness_n but_o this_o last_o enemy_n be_v destroy_v by_o our_o victorious_a redeemer_n the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n the_o captain_n of_o our_o salvation_n he_o it_o to_o they_o whether_o they_o know_v it_o or_o not_o but_o oh_o that_o we_o may_v go_v further_o that_o grace_n may_v attain_v to_o a_o great_a perfection_n in_o we_o even_o that_o we_o may_v come_v to_o a_o holy_a willingness_n and_o desire_n yea_o to_o a_o holy-longing_n of_o soul_n after_o death_n this_o be_v that_o holy_a covetousness_n of_o soul_n that_o god_n allow_v of_o there_o be_v two_o thing_n wherein_o a_o christian_a can_v be_v too_o insatiable_a in_o his_o desire_n after_o they_o one_o be_v that_o he_o may_v honour_n god_n the_o other_o be_v that_o he_o may_v enjoy_v god_n that_o he_o may_v honour_v god_n as_o much_o as_o he_o can_v while_o he_o be_v on_o earth_n and_o that_o he_o may_v enjoy_v god_n as_o soon_o as_o it_o may_v be_v in_o heaven_n this_o be_v the_o most_o commendable_a and_o desirable_a life_n and_o this_o will_v end_v in_o the_o most_o happy_a and_o comfortable_a death_n death_n do_v i_o say_v nay_o it_o be_v life_n in_o death_n it_o be_v death_n swallow_v up_o of_o life_n even_o in_o a_o life_n of_o unconceivable_a glory_n and_o happiness_n in_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o that_o god_n who_o be_v all_o life_n all_o love_n all_o peace_n all_o joy_n and_o all_o happiness_n in_o the_o utmost_a and_o high_a perfection_n i_o be_o sensible_a i_o have_v make_v a_o digression_n in_o this_o particular_a but_o the_o desire_n i_o have_v christian_a reader_n to_o stir_v up_o my_o own_o soul_n and_o thou_o also_o unto_o a_o duty_n so_o full_a of_o sweetness_n and_o delight_n have_v put_v i_o upon_o it_o i_o now_o go_v on_o to_o what_o yet_o be_v accompany_v with_o disease_n and_o distemper_n the_o forerunner_n of_o a_o dissolution_n and_o separation_n between_o soul_n and_o body_n cause_v all_o the_o action_n and_o operation_n of_o life_n to_o cease_v in_o which_o state_n the_o body_n quick_o turn_v to_o corruption_n and_o putrefaction_n and_o in_o time_n to_o common_a earth_n now_o though_o this_o be_v dreadful_a unto_o nature_n yet_o be_v there_o more_o of_o terror_n in_o death_n unto_o impenitent_a sinner_n because_o to_o they_o it_o be_v not_o only_o a_o gate_n to_o let_v they_o into_o the_o grave_a but_o a_o gate_n to_o let_v they_o into_o hell_n the_o first_o death_n transmit_v they_o unto_o the_o second_o death_n and_o yet_o how_o great_a be_v the_o folly_n of_o man_n that_o they_o fear_v death_n for_o that_o which_o be_v least_o formidable_a in_o it_o but_o do_v not_o fear_v it_o for_o that_o which_o render_v it_o just_o terrible_a can_v death_n do_v no_o more_o to_o we_o than_o what_o reach_v to_o pain_n and_o distemper_n on_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o the_o dissolution_n and_o destruction_n of_o
answer_v be_v thou_o a_o christian_a indeed_o and_o do_v thou_o talk_v after_o this_o manner_n as_o if_o thou_o be_v a_o stranger_n to_o god_n to_o christ_n to_o heaven_n and_o the_o happiness_n of_o our_o redemption_n be_v in_o a_o great_a measure_n to_o be_v accomplish_v yet_o when_o death_n come_v to_o he_o see_v how_o his_o pure_a and_o innocent_a nature_n be_v put_v to_o it_o when_o he_o cry_v out_o father_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v this_o cup_n pass_v from_o i_o it_o be_v true_a in_o his_o case_n there_o be_v more_o than_o death_n in_o it_o there_o be_v wrath_n there_o be_v a_o curse_n there_o be_v all_o the_o sin_n of_o the_o world_n wring_v into_o that_o cup_n to_o mingle_v he_o a_o bitter_a draught_n but_o this_o be_v also_o something_o of_o it_o for_o there_o be_v death_n in_o the_o cup._n it_o will_v therefore_o be_v the_o wisdom_n of_o christian_n to_o whatever_o measure_n of_o confidence_n and_o assurance_n they_o may_v have_v attain_v so_o as_o upon_o good_a ground_n to_o have_v overcome_v the_o fear_n of_o death_n and_o to_o look_v upon_o their_o die_a day_n as_o the_o most_o joyful_a day_n in_o their_o life_n yea_o though_o in_o this_o confidence_n their_o heart_n may_v sometime_o pant_v after_o the_o come_n of_o that_o day_n and_o they_o ready_a to_o cry_v out_o make_v haste_v my_o belove_a come_v lord_n jesus_n come_v quick_o yet_o will_v it_o be_v your_o wisdom_n to_o buckle_v on_o all_o your_o armour_n to_o get_v all_o your_o evidence_n and_o experience_n ready_a for_o the_o conflict_n of_o that_o day_n and_o hour_n may_v be_v such_o as_o that_o you_o may_v stand_v in_o need_n of_o your_o utmost_a preparation_n for_o you_o know_v not_o how_o the_o flesh_n may_v shrink_v in_o the_o day_n of_o trial._n but_o if_o it_o shall_v be_v so_o yet_o be_v not_o discourage_v o_o christian_n for_o possible_o this_o very_a instance_n of_o our_o lord_n may_v be_v leave_v upon_o record_n for_o this_o very_a end_n to_o comfort_v his_o people_n when_o they_o shall_v be_v overtake_v with_o the_o same_o fear_n and_o trouble_n and_o as_o for_o the_o sweetness_n of_o this_o present_a life_n the_o lose_v whereof_o make_v thou_o to_o fear_v death_n let_v i_o ask_v thou_o this_o question_n who_o be_v thou_o that_o be_v so_o fond_a of_o this_o present_a life_n be_v thou_o a_o christian_a indeed_o and_o in_o truth_n or_o do_v thou_o only_o make_v a_o profession_n of_o religion_n without_o the_o life_n and_o power_n of_o godliness_n if_o thou_o be_v only_o a_o outward_a professor_n i_o wonder_v not_o that_o thou_o shall_v set_v so_o high_a a_o price_n and_o value_n upon_o life_n and_o be_v so_o unwilling_a to_o part_v with_o it_o because_o all_o thy_o happiness_n be_v terminate_v in_o thing_n that_o be_v enjoy_v on_o this_o side_n death_n and_o the_o grave_a for_o as_o for_o those_o great_a and_o glorious_a thing_n that_o eye_n have_v not_o see_v nor_o ear_n hear_v nor_o can_v possible_o enter_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n to_o conceive_v that_o god_n have_v prepare_v for_o they_o that_o love_v he_o and_o which_o be_v to_o be_v enjoy_v beyond_o time_n in_o eternity_n thou_o have_v no_o lot_n or_o portion_n in_o those_o matter_n what_o wonder_v therefore_o if_o thou_o mourn_v and_o sigh_v even_o to_o the_o break_n of_o thy_o loin_n when_o death_n come_v to_o put_v a_o end_n to_o believer_n do_v then_o arise_v with_o christ_n representative_o yet_o till_o all_o believer_n arise_v personal_o at_o the_o last_o day_n the_o resurrection_n of_o christ_n have_v not_o receive_v its_o full_a perfection_n how_o comfortable_a therefore_o be_v this_o to_o a_o believer_n to_o consider_v that_o by_o the_o same_o faith_n that_o he_o put_v christ_n resurrection_n into_o the_o premise_n he_o may_v put_v his_o own_o resurrection_n into_o the_o conclusion_n if_o christ_n be_v in_o you_o say_v the_o apostle_n speak_v to_o believer_n in_o rom._n 8.10_o 11._o the_o body_n be_v dead_a it_o be_v a_o poor_a frail_a die_a body_n because_o of_o sin_n and_o though_o you_o be_v real_o unite_v unto_o christ_n by_o his_o spirit_n dwell_v in_o you_o which_o be_v a_o great_a and_o glorious_a privilege_n yet_o your_o body_n must_v die_v as_o well_o as_o other_o but_o the_o spirit_n say_v he_o be_v life_n because_o of_o righteousness_n though_o your_o body_n die_v your_o soul_n shall_v be_v abraham_n who_o be_v exalt_v above_o angel_n be_v go_v into_o heaven_n angel_n principality_n and_o power_n be_v make_v subject_a unto_o he_o it_o be_v this_o jesus_n christ_n who_o god_n have_v peace_n and_o keep_v up_o good_a thought_n in_o god_n towards_o believer_n sprinkle_v their_o poor_a and_o weak_a but_o sincer_n service_n with_o the_o incense_n of_o his_o own_o merit_n so_o that_o though_o both_o they_o and_o their_o service_n deserve_v to_o be_v reject_v for_o their_o own_o sake_n yet_o they_o shall_v both_o be_v accept_v for_o christ_n sake_n this_o now_o be_v something_o that_o christ_n be_v do_v in_o heaven_n in_o the_o behalf_n of_o believer_n since_o he_o be_v ascend_v to_o his_o father_n and_o to_o their_o father_n to_o his_o god_n and_o to_o their_o god_n but_o yet_o this_o be_v not_o all_o for_o in_o that_o comfortable_a prayer_n of_o he_o to_o his_o father_n before_o his_o ascension_n into_o heaven_n which_o be_v say_v some_o the_o copy_n of_o his_o intercession_n now_o he_o be_v in_o heaven_n he_o do_v as_o it_o be_v tell_v we_o that_o he_o look_v not_o upon_o himself_o as_o perfect_o happy_a until_o he_o have_v the_o whole_a number_n of_o believer_n with_o he_o in_o glory_n and_o therefore_o say_v he_o john_n 17.24_o father_n i_o will_v that_o those_o who_o thou_o have_v give_v i_o be_v with_o i_o where_o lam_n that_o they_o may_v
