and_o tell_v they_o thus_o you_o be_v a_o drunkard_n a_o swearer_n and_o the_o like_a they_o say_v i_o confess_v it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v my_o infirmity_n and_o i_o confess_v it_o but_o tell_v they_o of_o unbelief_n and_o they_o will_v not_o acknowledge_v that_o but_o this_o fine_a spin_a wickedness_n and_o this_o spiritual_a wickedness_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v a_o mere_a turn_v off_o from_o god_n and_o so_o from_o christ_n and_o the_o truth_n and_o the_o promise_n and_o therefore_o not_o easy_o discern_v reason_n 2_o second_o as_o it_o be_v hard_o to_o see_v the_o want_n of_o this_o grace_n of_o faith_n so_o it_o be_v marvellous_a difficult_a to_o see_v the_o use_n and_o need_v and_o benefit_n and_o help_v that_o will_v come_v from_o this_o grace_n nay_o we_o be_v more_o ready_a to_o be_v persuade_v of_o the_o need_n and_o benefit_n of_o any_o grace_n natural_o than_o of_o this_o grace_n of_o faith_n as_o a_o ignorant_a man_n and_o a_o weak_a man_n when_o he_o be_v ask_v a_o question_n and_o a_o point_n of_o dispute_n he_o say_v oh_o that_o i_o have_v learning_n and_o be_v able_a to_o dispute_v the_o reason_n be_v because_o he_o be_v sensible_a of_o his_o want_n of_o knowledge_n in_o that_o kind_n and_o when_o a_o poor_a christian_a come_v to_o join_v in_o prayer_n and_o in_o conference_n with_o other_o it_o may_v be_v his_o ability_n be_v small_a and_o when_o he_o hear_v such_o a_o man_n pray_v so_o holy_o and_o able_a to_o give_v such_o wholesome_a counsel_n he_o say_v oh_o that_o i_o have_v that_o gift_n in_o prayer_n and_o those_o part_n and_o ability_n what_o a_o happy_a man_n shall_v i_o be_v he_o be_v sensible_a that_o he_o want_v the_o power_n of_o prayer_n and_o ability_n to_o confer_v and_o all_o this_o while_n he_o say_v not_o a_o word_n of_o his_o unbelief_n he_o complain_v not_o of_o that_o the_o reason_n be_v because_o all_o those_o ability_n that_o carry_v a_o man_n to_o his_o duty_n towards_o man_n we_o be_v more_o sensible_a of_o the_o want_n of_o they_o because_o that_o our_o credit_n and_o respect_n lie_v upon_o they_o because_o a_o man_n think_v if_o he_o want_v these_o it_o be_v a_o discredit_n and_o he_o shall_v want_v that_o respect_n that_o he_o may_v have_v therefore_o because_o these_o carry_v a_o man_n to_o his_o duty_n towards_o man_n and_o make_v for_o our_o credit_n we_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o need_n and_o use_v of_o they_o but_o faith_n in_o the_o next_o work_n of_o it_o be_v to_o close_v with_o god_n and_o to_o fasten_v upon_o he_o and_o to_o rely_v upon_o the_o precious_a promise_n all_o these_o be_v beyond_o the_o reach_n of_o the_o world_n â—nd_v unbelief_n be_v the_o withdraw_n of_o itself_o from_o god_n and_o christ_n now_o because_o unbelief_n do_v not_o so_o much_o hinder_v we_o in_o our_o duty_n towards_o man_n and_o because_o faith_n i_o mean_v in_o the_o next_o work_n of_o it_o for_o faith_n do_v fit_v we_o for_o duty_n and_o the_o like_a but_o because_o faith_n in_o the_o next_o work_n of_o it_o do_v not_o so_o much_o furnish_v we_o with_o ability_n to_o carry_v we_o outward_o towards_o man_n and_o also_o because_o unbelief_n hinder_v we_o not_o in_o the_o same_o therefore_o we_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o the_o need_n and_o use_v of_o faith_n nor_o of_o the_o hurt_n and_o the_o danger_n of_o the_o other_o reason_n 3_o three_o hence_o it_o follow_v undeniable_o that_o as_o a_o poor_a sinner_n be_v hardly_o bring_v to_o see_v the_o want_n of_o faith_n and_o see_v less_o need_n of_o faith_n than_o of_o any_o other_o grace_n because_o he_o have_v less_o need_n of_o it_o outward_o in_o the_o next_o work_n of_o it_o therefore_o a_o christian_a bestow_v least_o care_n and_o time_n about_o faith_n and_o have_v small_a and_o feeble_a desire_n after_o it_o and_o little_a care_n to_o get_v it_o but_o it_o be_v plain_o prove_v before_o that_o a_o christian_n be_v hardly_o convince_v that_o he_o want_v faith_n and_o see_v less_o need_n of_o faith_n natural_o than_o of_o any_o other_o grace_n and_o therefore_o he_o have_v less_o care_n to_o get_v it_o for_o that_o which_o a_o man_n see_v but_o little_a need_n and_o use_v of_o that_o he_o have_v least_o care_n to_o get_v this_o i_o desire_v to_o make_v use_n of_o and_o so_o i_o desire_v my_o fellow_n brethren_n and_o minister_n this_o be_v the_o common_a course_n of_o the_o world_n take_v a_o sinner_n who_o eye_n god_n have_v open_v and_o reveal_v his_o sin_n and_o corruption_n to_o he_o and_o let_v he_o see_v his_o wrath_n from_o heaven_n against_o he_o and_o drive_v a_o man_n to_o a_o stand_n so_o that_o he_o say_v if_o this_o be_v so_o than_o i_o be_o a_o damn_a man_n and_o so_o he_o be_v even_o stagger_v now_o in_o this_o extremity_n mark_v the_o behaviour_n of_o this_o poor_a soul_n he_o will_v do_v any_o thing_n but_o believe_v and_o seek_v for_o any_o thing_n but_o for_o faith_n he_o will_v confess_v and_o cry_v out_o of_o his_o sin_n and_o resolve_v amendment_n and_o the_o drunkard_n loathâ—_n his_o old_a company_n and_o the_o adulterer_n will_v not_o go_v after_o his_o lust_n any_o more_o and_o the_o covetous_a mâ—â—_n in_o the_o horror_n of_o conscience_n will_v rid_v his_o hand_n of_o all_o his_o ilâ—_n get_v good_n and_o send_v for_o one_o man_n and_o call_v for_o another_o and_o make_v restitution_n and_o all_o this_o while_n not_o one_o word_n of_o faith_n nor_o of_o go_v our_o of_o himself_n to_o a_o christ_n for_o mercy_n and_o succour_v for_o he_o â—ay_n those_o that_o have_v be_v desperate_a persecutor_n of_o god_n and_o be_v not_o convince_v that_o they_o want_v faith_n and_o do_v not_o see_v the_o â—eed_n and_o use_v of_o faith_n and_o therefore_o do_v not_o desire_v nor_o look_v after_o it_o so_o gather_v up_o all_o and_o the_o sum_n be_v this_o if_o all_o man_n by_o nature_n be_v marvellous_a hard_o convince_v that_o they_o want_v faith_n and_o see_v the_o â—â—rtle_n and_o if_o all_o man_n bestow_v least_o he_o that_o now_o be_v accuse_v condemn_a shall_v now_o be_v hang_v so_o here_o other_o bear_v their_o hope_n and_o sustain_v their_o heart_n upon_o the_o privilege_n that_o god_n bestow_v upon_o they_o and_o the_o mean_n they_o have_v and_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o duty_n they_o do_v discharge_v and_o though_o they_o think_v they_o have_v fair_a hope_n and_o great_a hope_n of_o heaven_n why_o heart_n in_o the_o chain_n of_o unbeleef_n that_o howsoever_o judgement_n pass_v up_o and_o down_o the_o world_n yet_o all_o these_o judgement_n can_v awaken_v he_o nor_o all_o mercy_n why_o because_o the_o unbeliever_n be_v sure_a enough_o he_o can_v so_o much_o as_o look_v to_o that_o mercy_n prepare_v and_o offer_v in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o when_o the_o lord_n come_v by_o in_o all_o his_o glory_n and_o mercy_n as_o he_o do_v exod._n 33.6.7_o say_n the_o lord_n the_o lord_n strong_a merciful_a and_o glorious_a when_o all_o these_o pass_n by_o the_o that_o so_o many_o correction_n so_o long_o continue_v shall_v ever_o be_v pardon_v here_o the_o soul_n sink_v down_o in_o desperate_a discouragement_n now_o there_o be_v none_o but_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n that_o can_v let_v a_o light_n into_o the_o soul_n there_o be_v none_o but_o the_o hand_n of_o the_o lord_n that_o can_v rend_v and_o pluck_v and_o pull_v a_o poor_a faint_a despair_a die_a sink_a heart_n under_o the_o burden_n of_o his_o manifold_a abomination_n none_o but_o the_o almighty_a hand_n of_o a_o almighty_a god_n can_v do_v this_o when_o it_o be_v night_n all_o the_o candle_n thousand_o despair_n have_v slay_v his_o thousand_o but_o presumption_n his_o ten_o thousand_o that_o man_n may_v swear_v and_o lie_v and_o cousin_n and_o break_v all_o command_n and_o yet_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v yet_o they_o hope_v grace_n will_v save_v they_o they_o resist_v grace_n yet_o hope_v jesus_n christ_n will_v show_v mercy_n unto_o they_o they_o oppose_v christ_n this_o be_v that_o argument_n that_o persuade_v you_o to_o these_o groundless_a and_o foolish_a hope_n you_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v and_o you_o hope_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n and_o you_o hope_v to_o see_v the_o face_n of_o god_n with_o comfort_n let_v we_o see_v the_o ground_n for_o these_o hope_n of_o you_o good_a hope_n have_v good_a reason_n ground_a hope_v ground_v reason_n you_o say_v you_o hope_v to_o be_v save_v and_o have_v no_o reason_n for_o it_o it_o be_v a_o foolish_a hope_n a_o unreasonable_a hope_n the_o ground_n therefore_o of_o hypocrite_n be_v main_o five_o the_o ignorant_a poor_a silly_a man_n he_o plead_v he_o can_v think_v it_o he_o can_v conceive_v it_o that_o god_n have_v create_v any_o man_n for_o to_o damn_v he_o sure_o the_o lord_n be_v more_o merciful_a than_o so_o and_o therefore_o though_o we_o be_v sinful_a and_o base_a and_o untoward_a yet_o the_o lord_n will_v not_o damn_v we_o i_o answer_v therefore_o it_o be_v true_a indeed_o god_n do_v never_o preserve_v man_n against_o he_o narrow_a be_v the_o gate_n and_o straight_o be_v the_o way_n that_o lead_v unto_o life_n few_o there_o be_v that_o find_v it_o be_v this_o the_o argument_n of_o thy_o hope_n mark_v the_o folly_n and_o observe_v the_o weakness_n of_o it_o if_o creation_n be_v a_o good_a argument_n than_o all_o the_o damn_a shall_v come_v out_o of_o hell_n and_o be_v deliver_v nay_o by_o this_o reason_n the_o devil_n himself_o shall_v be_v save_v they_o be_v now_o in_o hell_n they_o be_v create_v as_o well_o as_o you_o ignorant_a silly_a creature_n think_v of_o these_o thing_n how_o your_o hope_n will_v shatter_v and_o break_v under_o you_o and_o you_o with_o they_o will_v fall_v together_o into_o the_o bottomless_a pit_n esa_n 57.11_o see_v how_o the_o lord_n bring_v this_o argument_n have_v feel_v the_o heavy_a hand_n of_o god_n many_o sorrow_n many_o weakness_n many_o trouble_n in_o their_o course_n many_o loss_n in_o their_o estate_n these_o stay_v up_o their_o comfort_n and_o upon_o these_o ground_n they_o build_v their_o hope_n i_o have_v have_v my_o hell_n in_o this_o life_n and_o i_o hope_v to_o have_v heaven_n in_o the_o world_n to_o come_v i_o hope_v the_o worst_a be_v over_o now_o i_o have_v be_v trouble_v in_o this_o world_n i_o hope_v i_o shall_v be_v comfort_v in_o another_o world_n and_o here_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o your_o hope_n i_o beseech_v you_o his_o heart_n must_v needs_o have_v a_o gracious_a and_o a_o godly_a life_n if_o a_o man_n have_v much_o sap_n within_o and_o no_o sign_n of_o it_o without_o it_o be_v certain_a it_o be_v no_o true_a faith_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o tree_n the_o tree_n that_o have_v much_o sap_n in_o the_o root_n will_v have_v much_o fruit_n in_o the_o branch_n and_o the_o more_o sap_n it_o have_v the_o more_o fruit_n it_o will_v have_v look_v as_o it_o be_v with_o the_o floodgate_n the_o wide_a the_o sloud-gate_n be_v the_o great_a be_v the_o stream_n which_o come_v through_o it_o so_o be_v thy_o faith_n and_o yet_o all_o fall_v short_a of_o this_o bless_a work_n of_o faith_n first_o the_o temporary_a believer_n we_o take_v he_o as_o the_o low_a form_n a_o man_n be_v call_v a_o temporary_a bleever_n that_o believe_v for_o a_o time_n and_o be_v hot_a at_o first_o hand_n and_o admirable_a fierce_a in_o the_o pursuit_n of_o the_o truth_n for_o the_o present_a push_n but_o he_o slide_v off_o and_o joy_n be_v the_o tickle_a of_o the_o affection_n with_o the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o the_o truth_n and_o his_o believe_a be_v not_o only_o a_o bare_a assent_n to_o the_o truth_n but_o a_o work_n of_o the_o will_n in_o a_o kind_n of_o hourlinesse_n in_o application_n these_o fall_v short_a of_o the_o spiritual_a work_n namely_o thus_o when_o the_o treasure_n of_o wisdom_n answer_v the_o fail_v be_v in_o three_o particular_n and_o they_o be_v very_o fair_a and_o open_a first_o this_o be_v the_o wound_n of_o the_o temporary_a in_o his_o course_n he_o receive_v the_o
