peace_n of_o god_n so_o the_o god_n of_o peace_n that_o be_v i_o must_v enjoy_v that_o god_n that_o give_v i_o the_o peace_n i_o must_v have_v the_o cause_n as_o well_o as_o the_o effect_n i_o must_v see_v from_o whence_o my_o peace_n come_v and_o enjoy_v the_o fountain_n of_o my_o peace_n as_o well_o as_o the_o stream_n of_o my_o peace_n and_o so_o in_o other_o mercy_n have_v i_o health_n from_o god_n i_o must_v have_v the_o god_n of_o my_o health_n to_o be_v my_o portion_n or_o else_o i_o be_o not_o satisfy_v it_o be_v not_o life_n but_o the_o god_n of_o my_o life_n it_o be_v not_o riches_n but_o the_o god_n of_o those_o riches_n that_o i_o must_v have_v the_o god_n of_o my_o preservation_n as_o well_o as_o my_o preservation_n a_o gracious_a heart_n be_v not_o satisfy_v without_o this_o to_o have_v the_o god_n of_o the_o mercy_n as_o well_o as_o the_o mercy_n in_o psal_n 73.25_o who_o have_v i_o in_o heaven_n but_o thou_o and_o there_o be_v none_o upon_o the_o earth_n that_o i_o be_v content_v it_o may_v be_v i_o have_v lose_v my_o estate_n if_o i_o can_v have_v but_o that_o give_v to_o i_o so_o as_o to_o make_v up_o my_o loss_n than_o i_o shall_v be_v a_o content_a man_n but_o now_o contentmet_n do_v not_o come_v in_o that_o way_n it_o come_v not_o in_o i_o say_v by_o the_o add_v to_o what_o thou_o want_v but_o by_o the_o substract_n of_o thy_o desire_n it_o be_v all_o one_o to_o a_o christian_a either_o that_o i_o may_v get_v up_o unto_o what_o i_o will_v have_v or_o get_v my_o desire_n down_o to_o what_o i_o have_v either_o that_o i_o may_v attain_v to_o mystery_n of_o contentment_n know_v no_o way_n to_o get_v contentment_n but_o to_o have_v his_o estate_n raise_v up_o to_o his_o desire_n but_o the_o other_o have_v another_o way_n to_o contentment_n that_o be_v he_o can_v bring_v his_o desire_n down_o to_o his_o estate_n and_o so_o he_o do_v attain_v to_o his_o contentment_n so_o the_o lord_n fashion_n the_o heart_n of_o the_o child_n of_o man_n now_o if_o the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n be_v fashion_v to_o his_o condition_n he_o may_v have_v as_o much_o contentment_n as_o if_o his_o condition_n be_v fashion_v to_o his_o heart_n some_o man_n have_v a_o mighty_a large_a heart_n but_o they_o have_v a_o straight_a condition_n and_o they_o can_v never_o have_v contentment_n when_o their_o heart_n be_v big_a and_o their_o condition_n be_v little_a but_o now_o though_o a_o man_n can_v bring_v his_o condition_n to_o be_v as_o big_a as_o his_o heart_n yet_o if_o he_o can_v bring_v his_o heart_n to_o be_v as_o little_a as_o his_o condition_n to_o bring_v they_o even_o from_o thence_o be_v contentment_n the_o world_n be_v infinite_o deceive_v in_o this_o to_o think_v that_o contentment_n lie_v in_o have_v more_o than_o they_o have_v here_o lie_v the_o bottom_n and_o root_n of_o all_o contentment_n when_o there_o be_v a_o evenness_n and_o proportion_n between_o our_o heart_n and_o our_o condition_n and_o that_o be_v the_o reason_n that_o many_o that_o be_v godly_a man_n that_o be_v in_o a_o low_a condition_n live_v more_o sweet_a and_o comfortable_a life_n than_o those_o that_o be_v rich_a contentment_n be_v not_o always_o clothe_v with_o silk_n and_o purple_a and_o velvet_n but_o contentment_n be_v sometime_o in_o a_o russet_a sure_a in_o a_o mean_a condition_n as_o well_o as_o in_o a_o high_a and_o many_o man_n that_o sometime_o have_v have_v great_a estate_n and_o god_n have_v bring_v they_o into_o a_o low_a condition_n they_o have_v have_v more_o contentment_n in_o that_o condition_n than_o the_o other_o now_o how_o can_v that_o possible_a be_v thus_o easy_o for_o if_o you_o do_v but_o understand_v the_o root_n of_o contentment_n it_o consist_v in_o the_o suitableness_n and_o proportion_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o a_o man_n to_o his_o estate_n and_o the_o evenness_n when_o one_o end_n be_v not_o long_o and_o big_a than_o another_o the_o heart_n be_v content_v there_o be_v comfort_n in_o that_o condition_n now_o let_v god_n give_v a_o man_n never_o so_o great_a riches_n yet_o if_o the_o lord_n give_v he_o up_o to_o the_o pride_n of_o his_o heart_n he_o will_v never_o be_v content_v but_o now_o let_v god_n bring_v any_o one_o into_o a_o mean_a condition_n and_o then_o let_v god_n but_o fashion_n and_o suit_v his_o heart_n to_o that_o condition_n and_o he_o will_v be_v content_a as_o now_o in_o a_o man_n go_v suppose_v a_o man_n have_v a_o mighty_a long_a leg_n and_o his_o other_o leg_n be_v short_a why_o though_o one_o of_o his_o leg_n be_v long_o than_o ordinary_a yet_o he_o can_v not_o go_v so_o well_o as_o a_o man_n that_o have_v both_o his_o leg_n short_a than_o he_o i_o compare_v a_o long_a leg_n when_o one_o be_v long_a than_o another_o to_o a_o man_n that_o have_v a_o high_a condition_n and_o be_v very_o rich_a and_o a_o great_a man_n in_o the_o world_n but_o he_o have_v a_o great_a proud_a heart_n too_o and_o that_o be_v long_a and_o large_a than_o his_o condition_n now_o this_o man_n can_v but_o be_v trouble_v in_o his_o condition_n now_o another_o man_n that_o be_v in_o a_o mean_a condition_n his_o condition_n be_v low_a and_o his_o heart_n be_v low_a too_o so_o that_o his_o heart_n and_o his_o condition_n be_v both_o even_o together_o and_o this_o man_n go_v on_o with_o more_o ease_n abundant_o than_o the_o other_o do_v so_o that_o now_o a_o gracious_a heart_n work_v after_o this_o manner_n the_o lord_n
thy_o heart_n may_v run_v whole_o upon_o he_o as_o if_o you_o have_v child_n because_o you_o have_v servant_n perhaps_o do_v feed_v they_o and_o give_v they_o thing_n you_o perceive_v that_o your_o servant_n do_v steal_v away_o the_o heart_n of_o your_o child_n you_o will_v hardly_o be_v able_a to_o bear_v it_o you_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o turn_v away_o such_o a_o servant_n and_o when_o the_o servant_n be_v go_v the_o child_n be_v at_o a_o great_a loss_n it_o have_v not_o the_o nurse_n but_o the_o father_n or_o mother_n intend_v by_o she_o put_v away_o that_o the_o affection_n of_o the_o towards_o the_o servant_n it_o run_v now_o towards_o the_o mother_n so_o those_o affection_n that_o run_v towards_o the_o creature_n god_n will_v have_v they_o run_v towards_o himself_o that_o so_o he_o may_v be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o thou_o here_o in_o this_o world_n and_o a_o gracious_a heart_n can_v indeed_o tell_v how_o to_o enjoy_v god_n to_o be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o he_o that_o be_v the_o happiness_n of_o heaven_n to_o have_v god_n to_o be_v all_o in_o all._n the_o saint_n in_o heaven_n have_v not_o house_n and_o land_n and_o money_n and_o meat_n and_o drink_n and_o clothes_n you_o will_v say_v they_o do_v not_o need_v they_o why_o do_v they_o not_o it_o be_v because_o god_n be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o they_o immediate_o now_o while_o thou_o live_v in_o this_o world_n thou_o may_v come_v to_o enjoy_v much_o of_o god_n you_o may_v have_v much_o of_o heaven_n while_o we_o live_v in_o this_o life_n we_o may_v come_v to_o enjoy_v much_o of_o the_o very_a life_n that_o there_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o what_o be_v that_o but_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o god_n to_o be_v all_o in_o all_o to_o we_o there_o be_v one_o text_n in_o the_o revelation_n that_o speak_v of_o the_o may_v be_v a_o reality_n to_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n in_o such_o time_n as_o these_o be_v they_o will_v find_v this_o privilege_n that_o they_o get_v by_o grace_n to_o be_v worth_a thousand_o of_o world_n hence_o be_v that_o of_o jacob_n that_o i_o mention_v in_o another_o case_n it_o be_v remarkable_a and_o come_v in_o full_o here_o in_o gen._n 33._o that_o notable_a speech_n of_o jacob_n when_o his_o brother_n esau_n do_v meet_v he_o you_o find_v in_o one_o place_n that_o esau_n he_o refuse_v jacob_n present_a in_o the_o 8._o verse_n when_o jacob_n give_v his_o present_n thy_o sight_n and_o esau_n say_v i_o have_v enough_o now_o in_o the_o 11._o verse_n there_o jacob_n urge_v it_o still_o and_o say_v jacob_n i_o beseech_v thou_o take_v it_o for_o i_o have_v enough_o now_o in_o your_o book_n it_o be_v the_o same_o in_o english_a i_o have_v enough_o say_v esau_n and_o i_o have_v enough_o say_v jacob_n but_o in_o the_o hebrew_n jacob_n word_n be_v different_a from_o notable_a speech_n of_o one_o he_o have_v all_o thing_n that_o have_v he_o that_o have_v all_o thing_n sure_o thou_o have_v all_o thing_n because_o thou_o have_v he_o for_o thy_o portion_n who_o have_v all_o thing_n god_n have_v all_o thing_n in_o himself_o and_o thou_o have_v god_n to_o be_v thou_o for_o thy_o portion_n and_o in_o that_o thou_o have_v all_o and_o this_o be_v the_o mystery_n of_o contentment_n it_o make_v up_o all_o want_n in_o god_n this_o be_v that_o that_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n have_v little_a skill_n in_o now_o i_o have_v divers_a other_o thing_n yet_o to_o open_v in_o the_o mystery_n of_o contentment_n i_o shall_v show_v likewise_o that_o a_o godly_a man_n not_o only_o make_v up_o all_o in_o god_n but_o find_v enough_o in_o himself_o to_o make_v up_o all_o to_o make_v up_o all_o in_o himself_o not_o from_o himself_o but_o in_o himself_o and_o that_o may_v seem_v to_o be_v strange_a than_o the_o other_o to_o make_v up_o all_o in_o god_n be_v somewhat_o nay_o to_o make_v up_o all_o in_o himself_o not_o from_o himself_o but_o in_o himself_o that_o be_v a_o gracious_a heart_n have_v so_o much_o of_o god_n within_o himself_o that_o he_o have_v enough_o there_o to_o make_v up_o all_o his_o want_n that_o be_v without_o in_o pro._n 14.14_o a_o good_a man_n shall_v be_v satisfy_v from_o himself_o from_o that_o that_o be_v within_o covenant_n that_o god_n have_v make_v with_o he_o now_o this_o be_v a_o way_n of_o fetch_v contentment_n that_o the_o man_n of_o the_o world_n know_v not_o of_o they_o can_v fetch_v contentment_n if_o they_o have_v the_o creature_n to_o satisfy_v they_o but_o to_o fetch_v contentment_n from_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n that_o they_o have_v little_a skill_n in_o i_o shall_v here_o have_v open_v two_o thing_n first_o how_o to_o fetch_v contentment_n from_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n in_o general_n but_o i_o shall_v speak_v to_o that_o in_o the_o next_o sermon_n and_o now_o only_a a_o word_n to_o the_o second_o second_o how_o he_o fetch_v contentment_n from_o the_o particular_a branch_n of_o the_o covenant_n that_o be_v from_o the_o particular_a promise_n that_o he_o have_v for_o the_o supply_n of_o every_o particular_a want_n there_o be_v no_o condition_n that_o a_o godly_a man_n or_o woman_n can_v be_v in_o but_o there_o be_v some_o promise_n or_o other_o in_o the_o scripture_n to_o help_v he_o in_o that_o condition_n and_o that_o be_v the_o way_n of_o his_o contentment_n
be_v take_v away_o this_o promise_n tell_v i_o that_o if_o it_o do_v befall_v i_o yet_o it_o be_v for_o some_o notable_a end_n and_o because_o god_n have_v use_v of_o my_o life_n and_o intend_v to_o fetch_v about_o his_o glory_n some_o way_n that_o i_o know_v not_o of_o and_o if_o he_o will_v come_v in_o a_o fatherly_a way_n of_o chastisement_n yet_o i_o will_v be_v satisfy_v in_o the_o thing_n so_o a_o christian_a heart_n by_o reason_v out_o of_o the_o word_n come_v to_o satisfy_v his_o soul_n in_o the_o midst_n of_o such_o a_o heavy_a hand_n of_o god_n and_o in_o such_o a_o distress_a condition_n as_o that_o be_v now_o carnal_a heart_n they_o find_v not_o that_o power_n in_o the_o word_n that_o heal_a virtue_n that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o word_n to_o heal_v their_o distract_a care_n and_o the_o trouble_n of_o their_o spirit_n but_o now_o those_o that_o be_v godly_a when_o they_o come_v to_o hear_v the_o word_n they_o find_v out_o that_o in_o the_o word_n there_o be_v as_o a_o plaster_n to_o all_o their_o wound_n and_o so_o they_o come_v to_o have_v ease_n and_o contentment_n in_o such_o condition_n as_o be_v very_o grievous_a and_o miserable_a unto_o other_o but_o now_o for_o other_o particular_a promise_n and_o more_o general_o for_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n how_o and_o in_o what_o mysterious_a way_n the_o saint_n do_v work_v to_o fetch_v out_o contentment_n and_o satisfaction_n to_o their_o soul_n we_o shall_v refer_v to_o the_o next_o time_n sermon_n iu._n philippian_n 4.11_o for_o i_o have_v learn_v in_o whatsoever_o state_n i_o be_o be_v more_o strange_a it_o be_v true_a perhaps_o we_o may_v convince_v man_n though_o they_o do_v not_o feel_v by_o experience_n what_o it_o be_v to_o make_v up_o all_o in_o god_n yet_o we_o may_v convince_v they_o that_o if_o they_o have_v he_o that_o have_v all_o thing_n than_o they_o have_v all_o for_o there_o be_v such_o a_o fullness_n in_o god_n he_o be_v the_o infinite_a first-being_a of_o all_o thing_n that_o may_v make_v up_o all_o their_o want_n but_o here_o be_v another_o thing_n that_o be_v further_o i_o say_v a_o godly_a man_n can_v make_v up_o whatsoever_o he_o want_v without_o the_o creature_n he_o can_v make_v it_o up_o in_o himself_o in_o the_o 14._o of_o the_o prov._n 14._o a_o good_a man_n be_v satisfy_v in_o himself_o as_o now_o if_o he_o want_v outward_a comfort_n good_a cheer_n feast_v a_o good_a conscience_n be_v a_o continual_a feast_n he_o can_v make_v up_o the_o want_n of_o a_o feast_n by_o that_o peace_n he_o have_v in_o his_o own_o conscience_n shall_v they_o say_v lo_o here_o or_o lo_o there_o for_o behold_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v within_o you_o a_o christian_a then_o whatsoever_o he_o want_v he_o can_v make_v it_o up_o for_o he_o have_v a_o kingdom_n in_o himself_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v within_o he_o if_o one_o that_o be_v a_o king_n shall_v meet_v with_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o trouble_n when_o he_o be_v abroad_o yet_o he_o content_v himself_o with_o this_o i_o have_v a_o kingdom_n of_o my_o own_o now_o here_o it_o be_v say_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v within_o a_o man_n true_o upon_o this_o scripture_n of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v within_o those_o that_o be_v learned_a if_o they_o will_v but_o look_v into_o that_o comment_n upon_o the_o gospel_n that_o we_o have_v of_o a_o learned_a man_n they_o shall_v find_v a_o very_a strange_a conceit_n that_o he_o have_v about_o this_o very_a text_n he_o confess_v indeed_o it_o be_v unutterable_a and_o so_o indeed_o it_o be_v the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v within_o you_o he_o make_v it_o that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o presence_n of_o god_n and_o christ_n within_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o man_n that_o when_o the_o body_n die_v he_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n go_v into_o god_n and_o christ_n that_o be_v within_o he_o the_o soul_n go_v into_o god_n and_o christ_n and_o enjoy_v of_o that_o communion_n with_o god_n and_o christ_n that_o be_v within_o its_o self_n that_o be_v heaven_n to_o it_o say_v he_o he_o confess_v he_o be_v not_o able_a to_o express_v himself_o nor_o other_o can_v understand_v full_o what_o he_o intend_v but_o certain_o for_o the_o present_a before_o death_n there_o be_v a_o kingdom_n of_o god_n within_o the_o soul_n such_o a_o manifestation_n of_o god_n in_o the_o soul_n that_o be_v enough_o to_o content_v the_o heart_n of_o any_o godly_a man_n in_o the_o world_n the_o kingdom_n that_o he_o have_v now_o within_o he_o he_o shall_v not_o stay_v till_o afterward_o till_o he_o go_v to_o heaven_n but_o certain_o there_o be_v a_o heaven_n in_o the_o soul_n of_o a_o godly_a man_n he_o have_v heaven_n already_o many_o time_n when_o you_o go_v to_o comfort_v your_o friend_n in_o their_o affliction_n you_o will_v say_v heaven_n will_v pay_v for_o all_o nay_o you_o may_v certain_o find_v heaven_n pay_v for_o all_o already_o there_o be_v a_o heaven_n within_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o herein_o they_o place_v their_o happiness_n but_o this_o be_v the_o happiness_n of_o a_o christian_a that_o he_o have_v that_o within_o himself_o that_o may_v satisfy_v he_o more_o than_o all_o these_o that_o place_n that_o we_o have_v in_o the_o first_o of_o james_n seem_v to_o allude_v to_o that_o condition_n of_o man_n that_o have_v all_o their_o estate_n within_o themselves_o jam._n 1.4_o but_o let_v patience_n have_v her_o perfect_a work_n that_o we_o may_v be_v perfect_a and_o entire_a want_v nothing_o the_o word_n there_o use_v signify_v to_o have_v the_o whole_a inheritance_n shall_v the_o flame_n kindle_v upon_o thou_o certain_o though_o this_o promise_n be_v make_v in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o it_o will_v be_v make_v good_a to_o all_o the_o saint_n now_o one_o way_n or_o other_o either_o in_o the_o letter_n or_o some_o other_o way_n for_o so_o we_o find_v it_o plain_o that_o promise_n that_o be_v make_v to_o joshua_n i_o will_v not_o fail_v thou_o make_v in_o all_o the_o book_n of_o god_n so_o heb._n 13.5_o show_v plain_o that_o it_o be_v our_o inheritance_n and_o we_o do_v not_o inherit_v less_o now_o than_o they_o do_v in_o joshuas_n time_n make_v a_o promise_n that_o no_o weapon_n form_v against_o his_o people_n shall_v prosper_v and_o every_o tongue_n that_o shall_v rise_v against_o they_o in_o judgement_n thou_o shall_v condemn_v and_o mark_v what_o follow_v this_o be_v the_o heritage_n of_o the_o servant_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o their_o righteousness_n be_v of_o i_o say_v the_o lord_n this_o be_v a_o good_a promise_n for_o contentment_n by_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n there_o be_v two_o or_o three_o thing_n more_o that_o show_v how_o a_o godly_a man_n have_v contentment_n after_o another_o kind_n of_o way_n than_o any_o carnal_a heart_n in_o the_o world_n have_v it_o be_v a_o mysterious_a way_n as_o thus_o he_o have_v contentment_n by_o realize_v the_o glorious_a thing_n of_o heaven_n to_o he_o he_o have_v
