judgement_n to_o the_o judgement_n of_o his_o superior_a when_o it_o be_v not_o in_o his_o power_n to_o revoke_v his_o understanding_n from_o the_o truth_n former_o know_v 3._o son_n what_o thou_o say_v be_v true_a when_o the_o truth_n be_v know_v for_o than_o it_o so_o convince_v the_o understanding_n as_o it_o can_v be_v induce_v or_o incline_v to_o the_o contrary_n but_o when_o evidency_n and_o certainty_n be_v want_v the_o understanding_n holpen_v by_o the_o will_n may_v rather_o be_v incline_v to_o one_o part_n then_o to_o the_o other_o and_o then_o the_o obedient_a that_o he_o err_v subjection_n for_o so_o long_o as_o they_o be_v member_n they_o must_v be_v subject_a to_o the_o head_n but_o suppose_v that_o those_o subject_n be_v more_o intelligent_a for_o knowledge_n of_o no_o case_n be_v he_o deprive_v of_o the_o merit_n of_o obedience_n neither_o why_o they_o shall_v he_o not_o submit_v his_o judgement_n in_o all_o thing_n to_o the_o superior_a when_o i_o be_v in_o shall_v be_v punish_v to_o be_v call_v to_o religion_n &_o to_o wear_v the_o habit_n increase_v the_o punishment_n unless_o not_o by_o word_n but_o by_o work_n thou_o answer_v so_o many_o and_o so_o indeed_o religious_a as_o be_v all_o those_o who_o have_v not_o whole_o give_v themselves_o to_o the_o exercise_n of_o a_o religious_a life_n and_o of_o solid_a virtue_n but_o do_v partly_o serve_v god_n &_o partly_o the_o world_n contrariwise_o there_o be_v many_o in_o the_o world_n who_o wear_v a_o secular_a habit_n indeed_o but_o yet_o in_o affection_n be_v true_o religious_a and_o do_v exercise_v virtue_n in_o so_o much_o as_o it_o be_v not_o the_o habit_n nor_o the_o place_n that_o make_v a_o true_a religious_a man_n but_o the_o inward_a hart_n and_o mind_n and_o the_o external_a the_o exercise_n of_o virtue_n to_o glory_v of_o the_o great_a continuance_n in_o religion_n and_o to_o be_v devoid_a of_o virtue_n and_o the_o perfection_n thereof_o be_v no_o commendation_n at_o all_o but_o a_o reproach_n and_o condemnation_n 6._o the_o scholar_n that_o have_v frequent_v the_o school_n for_o many_o year_n be_v not_o to_o be_v therefore_o praise_v but_o he_o that_o have_v profit_v in_o the_o school_n and_o be_v become_v excellent_a for_o his_o learning_n if_o thou_o will_v consider_v that_o thou_o be_v to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o all_o the_o time_n thou_o have_v many_o become_v robber_n thief_n and_o do_v not_o admit_v any_o cogitation_n of_o heaven_n at_o all_o 3._o some_o be_v possess_v of_o great_a store_n of_o riches_n but_o they_o tie_v not_o their_o affection_n unto_o they_o yea_o they_o be_v ready_a when_o it_o shall_v please_v i_o and_o when_o i_o shall_v think_v good_a to_o leave_v they_o and_o of_o such_o poor_a in_o spirit_n there_o be_v find_v very_o few_o in_o the_o world_n final_o some_o there_o be_v who_o that_o they_o may_v be_v the_o more_o free_a in_o the_o exercise_n of_o true_a virtue_n do_v contemn_v and_o forsake_v all_o earthly_a riches_n not_o only_o out_o of_o a_o affection_n of_o mind_n but_o by_o effect_n of_o work_n also_o so_o do_v my_o apostle_n &_o many_o other_o religious_a who_o be_v now_o in_o present_a possession_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o heaven_n and_o this_o be_v religious_a poverty_n whereunto_o i_o have_v promise_v the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n where_o all_o the_o religious_a shall_v be_v crown_v with_o the_o most_o noble_a crown_n of_o glory_n but_o the_o number_n of_o these_o be_v very_o small_a 4._o if_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n can_v be_v buy_v with_o money_n or_o exchange_v with_o kingdom_n and_o riches_n of_o the_o world_n great_a will_v be_v the_o excellency_n and_o dignity_n of_o the_o good_n of_o fortune_n and_o every_o one_o may_v love_v they_o as_o his_o own_o soul_n this_o excellency_n i_o have_v impart_v to_o religious_a poverty_n which_o of_o terrene_a riches_n make_v a_o ladder_n whereby_o it_o may_v mount_v up_o to_o heaven_n contrariwise_o the_o rich_a of_o the_o world_n dig_v the_o earth_n for_o the_o get_n of_o gold_n and_o silver_n out_o of_o her_o bowel_n and_o therein_o they_o place_v and_o fix_v their_o hart_n and_o bury_v it_o with_o the_o renounce_n of_o heaven_n together_o with_o the_o true_a felicity_n thereof_o but_o the_o poor_a religious_a man_n because_o he_o direct_v his_o hart_n to_o heaven_n make_v himself_o worthy_a of_o a_o heavenly_a reward_n what_o manner_n of_o way_n a_o man_n shall_v enter_v into_o such_o shall_v he_o find_v the_o end_n of_o it_o 5._o beside_o a_o religious_a man_n by_o the_o vow_n of_o poverty_n become_v superior_a to_o the_o whole_a world_n and_o above_o it_o for_o whereas_o he_o desire_v not_o to_o possess_v any_o thing_n in_o this_o life_n as_o his_o own_o he_o have_v no_o dependence_n on_o the_o world_n or_o the_o thing_n thereof_o but_o as_o one_o above_o it_o he_o contemn_v all_o that_o be_v within_o the_o compass_n or_o power_n of_o it_o the_o contrary_n happen_v to_o such_o as_o be_v addict_v to_o the_o world_n who_o be_v at_o the_o command_n of_o so_o many_o master_n as_o be_v the_o thing_n that_o they_o desire_v to_o have_v and_o possess_v 6._o moreover_o religious_a poverty_n manife_v a_o certain_a power_n and_o might_n against_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n itself_o for_o nature_n desire_v and_o incline_v a_o man_n to_o desire_v riches_n and_o the_o commodity_n of_o the_o body_n as_o the_o delicacy_n of_o meat_n niceness_n of_o apparel_n sport_n pastime_n and_o recreation_n but_o religious_a poverty_n withdraw_v all_o these_o from_o itself_o for_o my_o sake_n and_o therefore_o overcome_v nature_n and_o how_o then_o shall_v not_o i_o high_o esteem_v they_o who_o witting_o and_o willing_o move_v out_o of_o love_n of_o i_o alone_o do_v deprive_v themselves_o of_o all_o these_o lawful_a commodity_n and_o whereunto_o nature_n of_o itself_o invit_v they_o 7._o hear_v also_o my_o son_n another_o excellency_n of_o religious_a poverty_n if_o any_o needy_a or_o poor_a man_n become_v rich_a by_o his_o own_o industry_n or_o by_o any_o other_o occasion_n the_o world_n meruayl_v not_o but_o it_o wonder_v much_o if_o a_o rich_a man_n become_v voluntary_o poor_a and_o such_o a_o one_o indeed_o as_o do_v not_o only_o make_v away_o his_o riches_n but_o also_o deprive_v himself_o of_o the_o power_n and_o ability_n of_o possess_v they_o fore_o ever_o after_o and_o at_o this_o the_o world_n be_v astonish_v the_o more_o for_o that_o itself_o have_v nothing_o in_o more_o esteem_n than_o riches_n of_o the_o world_n &_o shun_v nothing_o with_o a_o great_a care_n than_o poverty_n all_o this_o proceed_v of_o nothing_o else_o then_o that_o it_o understand_v not_o the_o dignity_n and_o excellency_n of_o religious_a poverty_n let_v the_o world_n tell_v i_o can_v it_o with_o all_o it_o own_o riches_n and_o pleasure_n satiate_v and_o fill_v a_o man_n hart_n so_o as_o it_o may_v be_v at_o quiet_a nothing_o less_o for_o that_o as_o many_o as_o be_v lover_n of_o the_o world_n the_o more_o they_o have_v the_o more_o desire_n they_o to_o have_v and_o while_o they_o can_v be_v satisfy_v with_o what_o they_o have_v get_v they_o never_o arrive_v to_o any_o true_a peace_n and_o quiet_a of_o mind_n but_o the_o religious_a who_o neither_o have_v any_o thing_n proper_a of_o their_o own_o nor_o desire_v to_o have_v live_v content_a with_o very_o little_a be_v not_o this_o a_o certain_a participation_n of_o everlasting_a felicity_n that_o a_o man_n as_o he_o shall_v one_o day_n live_v content_a in_o heaven_n with_o the_o glory_n thereof_o so_o live_v now_o on_o earth_n content_a &_o quiet_a with_o his_o religious_a poverty_n 8._o neither_o be_v it_o the_o least_o commendation_n of_o religious_a poverty_n that_o it_o not_o only_o conserve_v and_o keep_v the_o religious_a but_o have_v further_a be_v the_o foundress_n of_o all_o religion_n as_o many_o as_o have_v be_v and_o still_o be_v in_o god_n church_n the_o monastery_n indeed_o and_o the_o cloister_n be_v erect_v and_o build_v with_o money_n and_o the_o good_n of_o fortune_n but_o the_o religious_a be_v not_o found_v by_o they_o for_o the_o first_o founder_n who_o have_v store_n of_o riches_n for_o the_o consecrate_v of_o themselves_o to_o my_o service_n do_v give_v away_o their_o riches_n as_o impediment_n to_o a_o better_a course_n of_o life_n and_o after_o a_o good_a foundation_n lay_v of_o the_o spirit_n of_o poverty_n and_o of_o mortification_n i_o use_v they_o as_o director_n and_o guide_v for_o the_o draw_v of_o other_o and_o by_o this_o mean_n religion_n be_v found_v stone_n and_o timber_n be_v lay_v and_o raise_v by_o riches_n but_o virtue_n be_v build_v &_o raise_v by_o poverty_n of_o spirit_n 9_o but_o suppose_v that_o there_o be_v not_o any_o thing_n worthy_a of_o commendation_n or_o excellent_a in_o poverty_n be_v it_o not_o a_o great_a dignity_n that_o it_o be_v love_v of_o i_o and_o esteem_v of_o i_o that_o it_o be_v to_o i_o a_o inseparable_a &_o fast_a companion_n during_o the_o whole_a course_n
moreover_o true_a humility_n cause_v a_o religious_a man_n to_o endure_v with_o patience_n and_o joy_n to_o be_v contemn_v of_o other_o &_o cause_v further_a that_o he_o be_v not_o only_o not_o trouble_v thereby_o or_o murmur_v but_o also_o that_o he_o most_o hearty_o give_v his_o creator_n thank_v therefore_o for_o as_o much_o as_o he_o know_v that_o by_o so_o do_v he_o be_v the_o more_o liken_v to_o i_o his_o lord_n &_o master_n true_a humility_n also_o incline_v to_o the_o shun_v of_o humane_a praise_n and_o to_o the_o attribute_v of_o all_o that_o be_v good_a unto_o god_n moreover_o the_o religious_a who_o labour_v to_o the_o height_n of_o perfect_a humility_n must_v needs_o desire_v that_o he_o be_v contemn_v of_o all_o and_o further_a wish_n that_o all_o may_v be_v thorough_o persuade_v that_o himself_o be_v true_o worthy_a to_o be_v contemn_v of_o all_o 6._o son_n if_o in_o religion_n thou_o be_v ashamed_a of_o a_o old_a or_o patch_a garment_n or_o do_v not_o with_o any_o willingness_n exercise_v thyself_o in_o abject_a office_n it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o thou_o do_v not_o serve_v under_o humilitye_n colour_n but_o be_v addict_v to_o thy_o own_o judgement_n and_o wish_v to_o be_v much_o esteem_v of_o other_o if_o thou_o hold_v on_o this_o way_n thou_o will_v soon_o repent_v thyself_o he_o that_o devoid_a of_o virtue_n seek_v to_o be_v reckon_v off_o for_o that_o alone_o show_v himself_o blame_v worthy_a the_o religious_a man_n who_o hunt_v after_o credit_n and_o reputation_n with_o the_o world_n live_v in_o miserable_a state_n moment_n of_o thing_n or_o make_v a_o upright_o esteem_v of_o they_o and_o therefore_o my_o prophet_n say_v to_o good_a purpose_n the_o child_n of_o man_n be_v liar_n in_o balance_n many_o there_o be_v who_o for_o their_o humility_n be_v of_o no_o weight_n at_o all_o or_o very_o little_a in_o the_o balance_n of_o the_o world_n because_o they_o be_v hold_v for_o base_a and_o counterfeit_a mettle_n and_o those_o very_a man_n be_v of_o just_a and_o perfect_a weight_n in_o my_o balance_n for_o man_n measure_v all_o thing_n by_o the_o outward_a show_n but_o i_o cast_v my_o eye_n upon_o the_o inward_a and_o upon_o that_o which_o lie_v hide_v in_o the_o mind_n and_o therefore_o many_o be_v of_o man_n contemn_v as_o vile_a and_o reject_v as_o little_a profitable_a who_o notwithstanding_o be_v for_o many_o respect_n in_o my_o sight_n to_o be_v prefer_v before_o other_o and_o so_o their_o humility_n do_v as_o precious_a stone_n shine_v beautiful_a in_o my_o eye_n 10._o the_o world_n only_o esteem_v the_o rich_a &_o mighty_a who_o have_v receive_v their_o stipend_n of_o pride_n be_v eftsoon_o puff_v up_o beyond_o themselves_o and_o do_v fill_v all_o thing_n with_o their_o insolence_n and_o loftyne_n of_o mind_n and_o these_o though_o disturber_n of_o peace_n do_v meruailous_o please_v the_o world_n but_o the_o humble_a and_o peaceable_a please_v i_o who_o i_o so_o much_o esteem_n that_o i_o have_v a_o particular_a care_n of_o they_o and_o worthy_o because_o there_o be_v not_o a_o virtue_n of_o more_o regard_n with_o i_o than_o be_v that_o of_o humility_n and_o more_o than_o that_o no_o virtue_n be_v please_v to_o i_o that_o be_v not_o found_v in_o humility_n heaven_n gate_n have_v not_o be_v open_v to_o my_o mother_n who_o be_v ever_o most_o dear_a unto_o i_o if_o notwithstanding_o her_o virginity_n and_o excellent_a purity_n she_o have_v appear_v without_o humility_n one_o may_v get_v into_o heaven_n without_o virginity_n but_o without_o humility_n none_o at_o all_o and_o because_o when_o she_o live_v upon_o earth_n she_o most_o of_o all_o practise_a humility_n and_o though_o she_o be_v the_o mother_n of_o god_n and_o the_o queen_n of_o heaven_n yet_o she_o call_v and_o repute_v herself_o a_o handmaid_n she_o merit_v not_o only_o to_o have_v a_o place_n in_o heaven_n but_o also_o to_o be_v exalt_v above_o all_o the_o quire_n religion_n the_o more_o diligent_a shall_v he_o be_v in_o furnish_v himself_o with_o virtue_n as_o he_o who_o ought_v to_o have_v both_o a_o great_a understanding_n and_o knowledge_n of_o his_o own_o obligation_n and_o have_v a_o long_a trial_n and_o experience_n of_o the_o sweetness_n of_o perfection_n he_o that_o be_v not_o hungry_a be_v soon_o fill_v and_o it_o be_v a_o ill_a sign_n in_o a_o religious_a man_n if_o he_o receive_v no_o pleasure_n in_o the_o study_n of_o virtue_n 8._o other_o contrariwise_o have_v a_o over_o hasty_a desire_n to_o get_v up_o to_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o perfection_n and_o if_o they_o happen_v peradventure_o to_o fall_v into_o some_o defect_n they_o be_v eftsoons_o discourage_v and_o loose_v their_o courage_n but_o this_o be_v not_o my_o will_n neither_o be_v it_o the_o way_n of_o labour_v to_o perfection_n for_o the_o great_a perfection_n be_v in_o the_o victory_n &_o overcome_v of_o all_o vice_n and_o in_o the_o purchase_n of_o all_o virtue_n &_o for_o the_o effect_n of_o this_o there_o must_v be_v some_o continuance_n of_o tyme._n wherefore_o to_o seek_v everyday_n more_o perfection_n than_o other_o which_o we_o speak_v of_o here_o be_v nothing_o else_o but_o to_o overcome_v the_o passion_n or_o to_o restrain_v the_o perturbation_n of_o the_o mind_n &_o the_o inordinate_a desire_n thereof_o and_o to_o be_v absolute_o perfect_a be_v nothing_o else_o then_o after_o the_o victory_n over_o ourselves_o to_o be_v dead_a to_o the_o world_n and_o to_o live_v to_o god_n alone_o 9_o he_o that_o have_v enemy_n and_o same_o time_n yet_o let_v he_o labour_n to_o extirpate_v one_o after_o another_o and_o so_o do_v he_o shall_v hold_v on_o to_o great_a perfection_n in_o like_a manner_n a_o whole_a kingdom_n be_v not_o set_v upon_o all_o at_o once_o but_o now_o one_o castle_n be_v take_v from_o the_o enemy_n and_o then_o another_o or_o some_o city_n bring_v in_o subjection_n and_o so_o one_o after_o another_o until_o he_o be_v come_v possess_v of_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n even_o so_o do_v a_o religious_a man_n who_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o invade_v &_o set_v upon_o the_o kingdom_n of_o perfection_n of_o mind_n as_o not_o only_o all_o shame_n lay_v aside_o they_o do_v nothing_o worthy_a of_o praise_n but_o do_v furthermore_o glory_n &_o rejoice_v in_o their_o own_o error_n and_o defect_n and_o in_o this_o they_o be_v not_o unlike_a to_o those_o angel_n who_o fall_v from_o heaven_n and_o together_o with_o their_o most_o grievous_a ruin_n lose_v also_o all_o their_o spiritual_a gift_n and_o procure_v to_o themselves_o most_o extreme_a evil_n for_o look_v how_o much_o more_o excellent_a they_o be_v in_o dignity_n then_o all_o creature_n so_o much_o more_o by_o their_o fall_n from_o and_o become_v worse_o and_o as_o he_o be_v call_v happy_a who_o decline_v from_o evil_a and_o embrace_v good_a so_o contrariwise_o miserable_a and_o unhappy_a be_v that_o man_n who_o forsake_v the_o way_n of_o perfection_n trace_v &_o hold_v on_o the_o way_n of_o licenciousnes_n and_o liberty_n 3._o but_o to_o conserve_v the_o degree_n of_o perfection_n thou_o have_v get_v there_o be_v two_o virtue_n that_o may_v help_v thou_o and_o those_o be_v love_n and_o humility_n love_n will_v make_v thou_o vigilant_a to_o avoid_v the_o danger_n grow_v from_o thief_n and_o robber_n humility_n will_v the_o will_n of_o my_o father_n who_o be_v in_o heaven_n who_o will_n be_v our_o soul_n sanctification_n and_o therefore_o whatsoever_o god_n give_v we_o for_o the_o sanctify_a of_o the_o soul_n be_v brag_v of_o his_o spiritual_a riches_n but_o also_o to_o think_v himself_o unworthy_a of_o they_o and_o withal_o to_o acknowledge_v and_o confess_v himself_o poor_a a_o beggar_n and_o a_o unprofitable_a servant_n three_o to_o acknowledge_v that_o the_o jewel_n of_o perfection_n depend_v of_o my_o grace_n know_v that_o it_o be_v lose_v if_o it_o be_v separate_v from_o it_o for_o as_o i_o resist_v the_o proud_a so_o give_v i_o grace_n to_o the_o humble_a and_o therefore_o if_o thou_o have_v a_o desire_n to_o have_v thy_o perfection_n not_o only_o conserve_v but_o to_o increase_v also_o attend_v thou_o diligent_o to_o the_o exercise_n of_o true_a humility_n the_o end_n of_o the_o first_o book_n the_o second_o book_n of_o religious_a perfection_n wherein_o be_v treat_v of_o the_o three_o vow_n of_o religion_n and_o the_o perfect_a observation_n thereof_o and_o first_o of_o the_o three_o vow_n in_o general_n of_o the_o dignity_n and_o excellency_n of_o the_o three_o vow_n that_o be_v make_v by_o religious_a person_n chap._n i._n son_n when_o any_o thing_n though_o otherwise_o of_o great_a worth_n be_v not_o know_v it_o be_v not_o much_o esteem_v because_o the_o excellency_n &_o worth_n thereof_o be_v obscure_v by_o the_o darkness_n of_o ignorance_n and_o thereby_o the_o due_a estimation_n be_v take_v away_o and_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n wherefore_o the_o three_o vow_n that_o be_v make_v in_o religion_n be_v not_o so_o esteem_v of_o some_o even_o religious_a man_n themselves_o because_o they_o understand_v not_o the_o worth_n excellency_n &_o profit_n secular_a man_n have_v they_o in_o so_o great_a regard_n and_o veneration_n they_o will_v say_v perhaps_o because_o they_o be_v religious_a and_o my_o servant_n and_o what_o make_v they_o religious_a and_o my_o servant_n but_o these_o three_o vow_n many_o secular_a person_n live_v at_o this_o day_n in_o the_o world_n far_o more_o learned_a more_o holy_a and_o more_o perfect_a than_o many_o religious_a and_o yet_o be_v they_o nothing_o so_o much_o honour_v as_o religious_a man_n be_v and_o the_o cause_n be_v because_o they_o be_v not_o tie_v to_o i_o by_o these_o holy_a band_n of_o vow_n secular_a man_n when_o they_o behold_v religious_a person_n do_v consider_v they_o as_o whole_o i_o by_o three_o vow_n consecrate_v to_o i_o &_o what_o honour_n they_o do_v they_o they_o think_v they_o give_v to_o i_o but_o this_o they_o do_v not_o to_o man_n of_o the_o world_n though_o otherwise_o eminent_a for_o their_o virtue_n and_o therefore_o to_o be_v tie_v in_o these_o band_n be_v no_o contemptible_a matter_n but_o most_o honourable_a and_o most_o noble_a even_o to_o the_o world_n since_o the_o religious_a be_v in_o so_o great_a veneration_n with_o the_o great_a man_n of_o the_o world_n 6._o these_o three_o vow_n again_o be_v of_o very_o great_a regard_n for_o that_o they_o cause_v the_o religious_a to_o triumph_v victorious_o and_o to_o go_v away_o with_o victory_n over_o their_o three_o deadly_a enemy_n for_o whil_v they_o exercise_v poverty_n against_o the_o vanity_n of_o the_o world_n chastity_n against_o the_o tentation_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o obedience_n against_o the_o fraud_n of_o the_o crafty_a devil_n they_o go_v easy_o away_o with_o victory_n but_o those_o religious_a who_o use_v not_o these_o kind_n of_o arm_n be_v oftentimes_o shameful_o overcome_v let_v not_o he_o be_v a_o soldier_n who_o will_v not_o take_v a_o weapon_n in_o hand_n neither_o let_v he_o go_v to_o the_o battle_n who_o refuse_v to_o fight_v 7._o and_o now_o tell_v i_o my_o son_n what_o those_o religious_a man_n deserve_v who_o make_v but_o light_a esteem_n of_o so_o holy_a and_o godly_a a_o obligation_n and_o what_o they_o also_o deserve_v who_o keep_v it_o not_o when_o they_o may_v &_o aught_o to_o keep_v it_o what_o punishment_n attend_v they_o who_o do_v not_o only_o break_v it_o but_o further_o contemn_v it_o also_o o_o how_o straight_o a_o account_n be_v they_o to_o make_v not_o only_o of_o their_o own_o transgression_n but_o also_o of_o those_o of_o other_o that_o be_v of_o those_o who_o by_o their_o bad_a example_n be_v induce_v to_o violate_v and_o of_o virtue_n for_o the_o bring_n of_o sensuality_n under_o the_o subjection_n of_o reason_n and_o among_o these_o virtue_n chastity_n have_v a_o principal_a place_n which_o if_o it_o once_o find_v a_o entrance_n into_o reason_n kingdom_n and_o into_o the_o superior_a part_n of_o the_o soul_n like_o a_o prudent_a and_o wise_a lady_n she_o command_v the_o sensual_a part_n to_o hold_v itself_o within_o it_o own_o bound_n and_o to_o yield_v sovereignty_n to_o reason_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o first_o excellency_n of_o chastity_n be_v to_o restore_v man_n as_o much_o as_o may_v be_v as_o he_o make_v himself_o uncapable_a of_o the_o heavenly_a &_o as_o a_o brute_n beast_n recive_v no_o taste_n of_o spiritual_a matter_n at_o all_o but_o when_o chastity_n be_v once_o get_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o mind_n the_o war_n come_v to_o a_o far_o different_a conclusion_n for_o chastity_n in_o the_o first_o place_n lay_v hand_n upon_o sensuality_n imprison_v she_o and_o set_v in_o discipline_n and_o art_n but_o also_o bring_v in_o a_o forgetfulness_n of_o those_o thing_n that_o be_v learn_v before_o on_o the_o contrary_a side_n chastity_n as_o it_o be_v a_o angelical_a and_o celestial_a virtue_n so_o do_v it_o raise_v a_o man_n to_o the_o execution_n of_o generous_a and_o most_o noble_a work_n 4._o the_o founder_n of_o religion_n if_o they_o have_v not_o lead_v chaste_a life_n have_v never_o go_v about_o so_o great_a and_o hard_a matter_n as_o the_o foundation_n of_o new_a religion_n be_v neither_o
can_v the_o apostle_n when_o they_o preach_v the_o gospel_n have_v move_v the_o world_n or_o have_v do_v other_o great_a matter_n which_o they_o do_v if_o they_o have_v be_v cumber_v with_o wife_n &_o child_n those_o therefore_o who_o embrace_v purity_n both_o of_o mind_n and_o body_n be_v more_o apt_a to_o receive_v the_o clear_a light_n of_o my_o grace_n to_o contemplate_v matter_n of_o heaven_n the_o mystery_n of_o the_o divinity_n the_o bless_a spirit_n the_o greatness_n and_o excellency_n of_o the_o eternal_a felicity_n and_o of_o the_o good_n prepare_v for_o the_o virtuous_a in_o heaven_n whence_o it_o be_v that_o man_n also_o though_o still_o live_v in_o a_o mortal_a body_n if_o he_o conserve_v his_o integrity_n of_o body_n and_o mind_n do_v even_o now_o in_o part_n begin_v to_o enjoy_v the_o pleasure_n of_o paradise_n 5._o neither_o be_v this_o the_o least_o of_o chastity_n excellencye_n that_o it_o so_o beautify_v and_o set_v forth_o a_o man_n soul_n as_o it_o make_v it_o it_o be_v of_o itself_o noble_a &_o excellent_a receyve_v yet_o great_a splendour_n and_o perfection_n from_o many_o other_o thing_n for_o first_o it_o be_v great_o ennoble_v by_o vow_n by_o virtue_n whereof_o a_o religious_a man_n have_v renounce_v all_o kind_n of_o pleasure_n whether_o the_o same_o appertain_v to_o the_o body_n and_o sense_n or_o to_o the_o mind_n and_o internal_a faculty_n thereof_o again_o it_o borow_v no_o small_a excellency_n from_o the_o very_a fountain_n and_o origin_n thereof_o which_o be_v a_o sincere_a and_o perfect_a love_n of_o i_o for_o a_o religious_a man_n move_v not_o of_o any_o necessity_n or_o hope_v of_o commodity_n nor_o for_o any_o other_o human_a respect_n be_v induce_v to_o forsake_v all_o pleasure_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o only_o for_o the_o please_a of_o i_o and_o therefore_o religious_a chastity_n be_v the_o more_o commendable_a for_o this_o because_o it_o be_v endue_v with_o most_o perfect_a charity_n which_o be_v the_o nurse_n and_o mother_n thereof_o no_o little_a splendour_n and_o perfection_n also_o be_v add_v unto_o it_o by_o the_o end_n and_o scope_n that_o religious_a chastity_n have_v propose_v and_o this_o end_n be_v nothing_o else_o than_o my_o honour_n and_o glory_n and_o therefore_o the_o religious_a bind_v themselves_o to_o perpetual_a chastity_n for_o that_o by_o it_o god_n service_n be_v in_o a_o wonderful_a boldness_n &_o poweris_n the_o more_o glorious_a will_v the_o victory_n &_o crown_n be_v that_o follow_v after_o neither_o shall_v thou_o want_v my_o help_n only_o play_v thou_o the_o man_n and_o use_v all_o thy_o force_n for_o the_o maintain_n of_o chastity_n and_o no_o enemy_n from_o within_o or_o without_o shall_v get_v the_o victory_n from_o thou_o and_o see_v thou_o acknowledge_v and_o this_o virtue_n of_o chastity_n and_o regard_v it_o as_o the_o guide_n of_o a_o spiritual_a life_n requisite_a it_o be_v that_o they_o also_o embrace_v and_o take_v it_o for_o their_o lady_n and_o to_o entertain_v a_o dishonest_a servant_n within_o my_o house_n or_o that_o i_o shall_v endure_v he_o in_o the_o same_o how_o shall_v i_o suffer_v that_o any_o service_n shall_v be_v do_v i_o by_o he_o who_o i_o know_v to_o have_v a_o unclean_a mind_n the_o servant_n that_o accommodate_v not_o himself_o to_o his_o lord_n and_o master_n or_o neglect_v to_o procure_v his_o love_n and_o good_a will_n either_o will_v not_o be_v long_a stable_n in_o his_o office_n or_o if_o he_o continue_v in_o it_o will_v make_v very_o little_a profit_n thereby_o and_o will_v put_v himself_o in_o danger_n of_o be_v thrust_v out_o to_o his_o own_o great_a hurt_n and_o no_o little_a shame_n and_o confusion_n do_v i_o require_v at_o my_o servant_n hand_n any_o thing_n unfitting_a unseemly_a or_o impossible_a i_o require_v purity_n which_o be_v a_o principal_a virtue_n i_o require_v of_o he_o that_o he_o suffer_v not_o himself_o to_o be_v supplant_v or_o overcome_v by_o his_o sensuality_n religious_a who_o of_o themselves_o confess_v that_o they_o be_v sinner_n careless_a dull_a slothful_a and_o nothing_o at_o all_o but_o if_o any_o other_o shall_v say_v so_o much_o of_o they_o they_o be_v eftsoons_o trouble_v move_v &_o murmur_v for_o the_o matter_n &_o seek_v to_o defend_v their_o own_o estimation_n &_o honour_n and_o these_o man_n be_v far_o from_o humility_n for_o a_o man_n
