water_n and_o how_o that_o man_n live_v then_o so_o secure_a and_o careless_a that_o they_o look_v for_o no_o harm_n to_o come_v unto_o they_o neither_o thought_n of_o any_o destruction_n at_o hand_n and_o yet_o sudden_o the_o flood_n cover_v they_o all_o of_o all_o which_o these_o perverse_a and_o froward_a person_n be_v willing_o and_o wilful_o ignorant_a the_o plain_a meaning_n of_o his_o with_o the_o deep_a be_v by_o the_o worde_n of_o god_n part_v from_o the_o water_n and_o become_v dry_a land_n stand_v and_o be_v hem_v in_o by_o the_o water_n and_o that_o which_o moses_n at_o and_o delight_n if_o he_o believe_v those_o thing_n which_o be_v here_o speak_v for_o when_o worldly_a wealth_n and_o terrene_a treasure_n be_v compare_v to_o these_o thing_n it_o appear_v straight_o how_o those_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n endure_v but_o a_o small_a time_n and_o do_v soon_o pass_v away_o but_o these_o thing_n continue_v for_o ever_o and_o do_v never_o fail_v nor_o fade_v moreover_o all_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n be_v unpure_a and_o do_v defile_v we_o for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n here_o so_o godly_a but_o in_o one_o respect_n or_o other_o he_o be_v carry_v away_o and_o defile_v with_o the_o vanity_n and_o pleasant_a thing_n of_o this_o life_n but_o this_o inheritance_n be_v undefiled_a and_o pure_a and_o he_o that_o possess_v the_o same_o remain_v for_o ever_o immaculate_a final_o this_o inheritance_n do_v not_o fade_v do_v not_o decay_n neither_o be_v ever_o subject_a to_o any_o corruption_n but_o every_o yearthly_a thing_n although_o it_o be_v as_o hard_o as_o iron_n and_o stone_n be_v nevertheless_o change_v and_o continue_v not_o still_o as_o soon_o as_o man_n also_o become_v old_a his_o beauty_n be_v go_v and_o he_o become_v loathsome_a and_o unamiable_a howbeit_o this_o inheritance_n be_v far_o from_o mutation_n or_o change_n it_o always_o remain_v it_o be_v always_o fresh_a and_o flourish_v there_o be_v no_o pleasure_n so_o great_a on_o the_o earth_n which_o will_v not_o by_o continuance_n become_v loathsome_a and_o tedious_a as_o we_o see_v there_o be_v at_o the_o last_o a_o tediousness_n in_o all_o thing_n but_o our_o good_a thing_n here_o speak_v of_o be_v otherwise_o whereof_o there_o be_v not_o satiety_n for_o ever_o all_o which_o we_o obtain_v in_o christ_n through_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n when_o we_o firm_o believe_v that_o they_o be_v free_o give_v unto_o us._n for_o how_o shall_v we_o miserable_a man_n by_o our_o own_o work_n merit_v those_o so_o great_a good_a thing_n which_o no_o reason_n or_o understanding_n of_o man_n be_v able_a so_o much_o as_o to_o comprehend_v or_o by_o imagination_n of_o heart_n once_o to_o conceive_v reserve_v in_o heaven_n for_o you_o this_o inheritance_n immortal_a undefiled_a and_o that_o fade_v not_o away_o be_v undoubted_o we_o it_o be_v only_o for_o a_o little_a while_n remove_v and_o keep_v from_o our_o sight_n until_o these_o eye_n be_v close_v up_o and_o this_o mortal_a life_n end_v then_o shall_v we_o certain_o find_v and_o see_v the_o same_o unless_o we_o be_v unbelieve_v and_o because_o we_o shall_v not_o doubt_n of_o the_o certainty_n thereof_o the_o apostle_n here_o add_v that_o this_o inheritance_n whereunto_o no_o corruption_n can_v cleave_v be_v reserve_v for_o we_o in_o heaven_n which_o be_v keep_v by_o the_o power_n of_o god_n through_o faith_n unto_o salvation_n we_o in_o hope_n say_v the_o apostle_n look_v for_o this_o excellent_a inheritance_n whereunto_o we_o come_v by_o faith_n for_o these_o do_v in_o this_o sort_n follow_v one_o a_o other_o by_o the_o word_n be_v wrought_v in_o we_o faith_n by_o faith_n that_o new_a birth_n and_o by_o this_o new_a birth_n we_o come_v unto_o hope_n so_o that_o we_o without_o the_o especial_a assistance_n of_o god_n spirit_n how_o then_o shall_v we_o by_o our_o own_o strength_n arrogate_v that_o which_o of_o all_o other_o be_v most_o excellent_a namely_o to_o believe_v these_o cogitation_n therefore_o be_v a_o mere_a dream_n
contain_v the_o sum_n of_o a_o true_a christian_a life_n as_o thou_o live_v therefore_o so_o shall_v thou_o receive_v and_o so_o will_v god_n judge_v thou_o and_o therefore_o although_o god_n judge_v we_o accord_v to_o our_o work_v yet_o nevertheless_o this_o remain_v also_o alike_o true_a that_o good_a work_n be_v only_o the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n whereby_o it_o be_v easy_a to_o find_v and_o try_v where_o faith_n be_v and_o where_o be_v infidelity_n and_o therefore_o will_v god_n judge_v thou_o accord_v to_o thy_o work_n and_o will_v thereby_o lay_v it_o face_n to_o face_n to_o thy_o charge_n whether_o thou_o have_v faith_n or_o no._n as_o no_o man_n can_v better_o confute_v a_o liar_n then_o by_o his_o own_o word_n and_o yet_o nevertheless_o it_o be_v plain_a that_o by_o those_o word_n he_o be_v not_o make_v a_o lior_fw-la but_o he_o be_v a_o liar_n afore_o that_o he_o utter_v any_o lie_n because_o that_o a_o lie_n must_v needs_o proceed_v from_o the_o heart_n into_o the_o mouth_n take_v therefore_o these_o same_o word_n of_o saint_n peter_n in_o a_o most_o simple_a sense_n and_o in_o such_o sort_n that_o you_o understande_v work_n to_o be_v the_o fruit_n and_o seal_n of_o faith_n and_o that_o god_n do_v judge_v man_n according_a to_o these_o fruit_n which_o can_v not_o but_o ensue_v and_o follow_v a_o true_a and_o sound_o faith_n to_o the_o intent_n it_o may_v manifest_o appear_v where_o faith_n remain_v in_o the_o heart_n and_o also_o where_o infidelity_n lodge_v god_n will_v not_o judge_v accord_v to_o these_o interrogatory_n and_o question_n whether_o thou_o be_v call_v a_o christian_a or_o no_o or_o whether_o thou_o be_v baptize_v or_o not_o but_o he_o will_v thus_o question_v with_o thou_o sirrah_n if_o thou_o be_v a_o christian_n where_o be_v thy_o fruit_n whereby_o thou_o be_v able_a to_o confirm_v and_o approve_v thy_o faith_n and_o therefore_o say_v saint_n peter_n forasmuch_o as_o you_o have_v such_o a_o father_n which_o judge_v not_o accord_v to_o any_o man_n person_n see_v that_o you_o have_v your_o conversation_n in_o the_o time_n of_o your_o dwell_n here_o in_o fear_n that_o be_v to_o say_v fear_v you_o this_o father_n not_o in_o the_o fear_n of_o punishment_n and_o revenge_n for_o so_o the_o wicked_a reprobate_n and_o deville_n do_v fear_v he_o but_o fear_v you_o he_o lest_o he_o shall_v forsake_v you_o or_o withdraw_v his_o holy_a hand_n from_o you_o even_o as_o a_o honest_a and_o good_a child_n stand_v in_o fear_n lest_o he_o shall_v offend_v his_o father_n or_o commit_v any_o thing_n that_o shall_v not_o be_v well_o like_v of_o he_o such_o a_o fear_n do_v god_n require_v at_o our_o hand_n whereby_o we_o may_v loathe_v and_o abhor_v sin_n and_o diligent_o study_v to_o help_v out_o neighbour_n so_o long_o as_o we_o have_v to_o live_v in_o this_o world_n that_o christian_n that_o believe_v well_o be_v possess_v of_o all_o the_o good_n and_o benefit_n of_o god_n and_o be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n as_o we_o have_v hear_v afore_o declare_v but_o the_o time_n that_o he_o here_o have_v to_o live_v be_v nothing_o else_o then_o a_o kind_n of_o sequestration_n or_o pilgrimage_n for_o his_o spirit_n by_o faith_n be_v already_o in_o heaven_n by_o the_o which_o he_o be_v even_o a_o lord_n of_o all_o thing_n but_o god_n therefore_o suffer_v he_o yet_o for_o a_o time_n to_o live_v in_o the_o flesh_n and_o to_o be_v conversant_a in_o body_n upon_o the_o earth_n purpose_o that_o he_o shall_v help_v other_o and_o bring_v they_o with_o he_o to_o heaven_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v not_o otherwise_o to_o use_v this_o world_n nor_o to_o make_v any_o other_o account_n thereof_o but_o as_o stranger_n or_o wayfaring_a man_n be_v wont_a to_o do_v who_o come_n into_o their_o lodging_n or_o inn_n make_v know_v that_o the_o same_o time_n be_v come_v the_o prophet_n daniel_n come_v very_o never_o the_o matter_n nevertheless_o he_o speak_v thereof_o obscure_o and_o darck_o namely_o at_o what_o time_n christ_n shall_v suffer_v and_o die_v and_o when_o this_o or_o that_o thing_n shall_v come_v to_o pass_v so_o they_o have_v a_o undoubted_a prophecy_n that_o the_o kingdom_n of_o the_o jew_n shall_v and_o submit_v themselves_o thus_o far_o that_o they_o require_v to_o be_v believe_v in_o nothing_o which_o they_o do_v not_o prove_v sound_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v so_o as_o they_o affirm_v that_o the_o mouth_n of_o infidel_n may_v be_v stop_v and_o be_v able_a to_o say_v nothing_o against_o they_o with_o reason_n and_o shall_v we_o believe_v these_o gross_a and_o unlearned_a lubber_n which_o neither_o preach_v the_o word_n of_o god_n neither_o can_v do_v any_o thing_n but_o jangle_n and_o prate_n bavie_a and_o revile_v it_o can_v not_o be_v y_fw-fr t_o the_o father_n shall_v thus_o err_v so_o long_o be_v it_o since_o it_o be_v so_o conclude_v wherefore_o of_o these_o thing_n there_o ought_v now_o no_o reason_n to_o be_v give_v to_o any_o man_n we_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v certain_o out_o of_o the_o scripture_n that_o none_o be_v save_v but_o he_o that_o believe_v in_o christ_n so_o that_o these_o man_n be_v not_o able_a to_o speak_v any_o thing_n there_o against_o and_o also_o they_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o prove_v unto_o we_o their_o childish_a trifle_n by_o the_o scripture_n as_o namely_o that_o he_o be_v in_o a_o damnable_a ease_n which_o fa_v not_o this_o or_o that_o day_n and_o such_o like_a wherefore_o it_o be_v not_o meet_v neither_o ought_v we_o at_o any_o hand_n to_o believe_v they_o sainete_n peter_n now_o say_v moreover_o and_o the_o glory_n that_o shall_v follow_v that_o which_o be_v here_o speak_v of_o the_o apostle_n may_v be_v understand_v both_o of_o the_o affliction_n which_o christ_n himself_o suffer_v and_o also_o of_o those_o which_o we_o christian_n be_v his_o member_n do_v suffer_v for_o saint_n paul_n call_v that_o the_o suffer_n of_o christ_n which_o every_o christian_a do_v suffer_v as_o the_o affiance_n name_n word_n and_o work_v of_o christ_n be_v my_o forasmuch_o as_o i_o firm_o believe_v in_o he_o so_o be_v my_o affliction_n also_o he_o in_o asmuch_o as_o i_o be_o afflict_v for_o his_o sake_n wherefore_o the_o affliction_n of_o christ_n be_v daily_o accomplish_v in_o christian_n even_o unto_o the_o end_n of_o the_o world_n this_o now_o be_v no_o small_a comfort_n unto_o we_o that_o howsoever_o thing_n fall_v out_o we_o be_v certain_a that_o all_o our_o affliction_n be_v so_o common_a together_o with_o christ_n and_o we_o that_o he_o count_v they_o not_o otherwise_o then_o his_o christ_n as_o of_o those_o that_o believe_v in_o he_o and_o also_o of_o the_o glory_n that_o follow_v the_o same_o so_o david_n psal_n 22._o when_o he_o speak_v of_o christ_n in_o this_o sort_n i_o be_o a_o woâ—â—e_n and_o no_o man_n 〈◊〉_d do_v he_o else_o declare_v but_o his_o exceed_a debase_v and_o 〈◊〉_d which_o in_o his_o passion_n he_o suffer_v also_o psal_n 44._o he_o write_v of_o the_o affliction_n of_o christian_n sa_v we_o be_v count_v as_o sheep_n appoint_v to_o be_v slay_v etc._n etc._n unto_o who_o it_o be_v also_o reveil_v that_o not_o unto_o themselves_o but_o unto_o we_o thus_o have_v we_o a_o sure_a help_n and_o strengthening_n of_o our_o faith_n for_o our_o further_a and_o better_a instruction_n whereby_o we_o may_v be_v able_a to_o defend_v ourselves_o against_o all_o false_a doctrine_n which_o thing_n the_o angel_n desire_v to_o behold_v so_o great_a thing_n have_v the_o apostle_n delare_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n which_o come_v down_o upon_o they_o from_o heaven_n that_o even_o the_o very_a angel_n do_v desire_v to_o behold_v and_o see_v they_o here_o we_o must_v with_o great_a attention_n shut_v our_o eye_n and_o see_v what_o the_o gospel_n be_v wherein_o sure_o we_o can_v not_o but_o have_v exceed_a delight_n joy_n and_o consolation_n we_o can_v not_o yet_o see_v these_o thing_n with_o our_o bodily_a eye_n but_o we_o must_v believe_v that_o we_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o righteousness_n truth_n salvation_n and_o of_o all_o good_a thing_n which_o god_n have_v for_o inasmuche_o as_o he_o have_v give_v unto_o we_o christ_n his_o only_o beget_v son_n the_o fountain_n and_o head_n of_o all_o good_a thing_n how_o shall_v he_o not_o through_o and_o with_o he_o give_v we_o also_o all_o his_o good_a thing_n riches_n and_o treasure_n whereat_o the_o angel_n in_o heaven_n do_v take_v marvellous_a joy_n and_o delight_n all_o these_o thing_n be_v offer_v unto_o we_o by_o the_o gospel_n so_o that_o if_o we_o believe_v scripture_n for_o hitherto_o have_v he_o describe_v what_o it_o be_v to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n and_o how_o it_o be_v foretell_v by_o the_o prophet_n that_o it_o shall_v be_v after_o this_o sort_n preach_v and_o teach_v now_o he_o proceed_v and_o hereafter_o exhort_v we_o by_o faith_n to_o embrace_v and_o by_o love_n to_o follow_v such_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n sai_v wherefore_o gird_n up_o the_o loin_n of_o your_o mind_n be_v sober_a and_o trust_v perfect_o on_o the_o grace_n that_o be_v bring_v unto_o you_o by_o the_o revelation_n of_o jesus_n christ_n as_o obedient_a child_n now_o that_o way_n the_o apostle_n saint_n peter_n use_v here_o a_o certain_a peculiar_a and_o proper_a kind_n of_o speech_n not_o such_o as_o saint_n paul_n use_v when_o he_o say_v gird_v up_o the_o loin_n of_o your_o mind_n he_o call_v that_o the_o mind_n which_o we_o otherwise_o call_v the_o thought_n as_o when_o i_o say_v i_o think_v thus_o that_o this_o be_v right_n and_o as_o saint_n paul_n say_v so_o do_v we_o think_v such_o be_v our_o opinion_n so_o it_o seem_v unto_o us._n and_o by_o this_o mean_n do_v the_o apostle_n here_o most_o proper_o signify_v faith_n meaning_n thus_o much_o it_o fast_o unto_o you_o and_o valiant_o stick_v thereunto_o let_v no_o man_n pull_v these_o sound_n opinion_n out_o of_o your_o heart_n and_o then_o shall_v you_o prosperous_o persener_n and_o stand_v there_o will_v many_o false_a teacher_n arise_v who_o will_v forge_v doctrine_n of_o man_n thereby_o to_o corrupt_v your_o mind_n and_o looze_z this_o girdle_n of_o faith_n wherefore_o in_o heart_n receive_v this_o admonition_n which_o i_o give_v you_o aforehande_v that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o truth_n may_v be_v well_o fix_v in_o your_o mind_n and_o that_o you_o may_v valiant_o persist_v here_o in_o saint_n peter_n he_o have_v scatter_v the_o proud_a in_o the_o imagination_n of_o their_o heart_n that_o be_v he_o have_v overthrow_v and_o bring_v they_o to_o confusion_n in_o the_o devise_n of_o their_o own_o mind_n and_o thought_n be_v sober_a this_o sobriety_n pertain_v outward_o to_o the_o body_n and_o be_v a_o especial_a work_n of_o faith_n for_o although_o man_n be_v justify_v yet_o be_v he_o not_o free_a from_o evil_a desire_n in_o deed_n faith_n have_v begin_v to_o restrain_v and_o bridle_v the_o flesh_n notwithstanding_o the_o same_o do_v continual_o strive_v against_o it_o and_o assault_v it_o with_o sundry_a sort_n of_o desire_n which_o go_v about_o accord_v to_o the_o concupiscence_n thereof_o again_o to_o burst_v forth_o and_o prevail_v wherefore_o the_o spirit_n have_v daily_o much_o ado_n to_o bridle_v and_o restrain_v they_o and_o it_o must_v therefore_o without_o intermission_n have_v continual_a fight_n with_o they_o and_o always_o take_v and_o do_v what_o it_o list_v hereupon_o it_o be_v that_o saint_n peter_n here_o exhort_v we_o to_o be_v sober_a howbeit_o he_o bid_v we_o not_o as_o it_o be_v to_o destroy_v our_o body_n or_o to_o weaken_v it_o more_o than_o be_v meet_v as_o some_o have_v do_z which_o have_v make_v themselves_o mad_a by_o over_o much_o fast_v yea_o some_o have_v quite_o pine_v and_o consume_v themselves_o a_o express_v do_v insinuate_v and_o purporte_n where_o he_o say_v that_o god_n will_v have_v no_o man_n to_o perish_v but_o will_v all_o man_n to_o come_v to_o repentance_n for_o it_o seem_v to_o amiss_o to_o think_v this_o epistle_n to_o be_v write_v by_o peter_n for_o see_v that_o in_o this_o epistle_n his_o purpose_n and_o meaning_n be_v not_o to_o write_v of_o faith_n but_o of_o love_n and_o charity_n be_v purposely_o abaze_v himself_o in_o his_o style_n as_o the_o nature_n of_o charity_n always_o be_v to_o do_v to_o the_o intent_n thereby_o to_o humble_v himself_o to_o his_o neighbour_n as_o on_o the_o other_o part_n faith_n always_o mount_v and_o lift_v up_o itself_o to_o godward_o and_o this_o 〈◊〉_d he_o well_o see_v will_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o many_o light_n and_o unstable_a spirit_n will_v wrest_v and_o wring_v invert_v and_o pervert_v s._n paul_n word_n in_o sundry_a place_n for_o that_o in_o his_o epistle_n there_o be_v some_o text_n hard_a to_o be_v understand_v as_o where_o he_o say_v that_o no_o man_n be_v justify_v by_o work_n but_o by_o faith_n only_o rom._n iij._n again_o that_o the_o law_n be_v give_v to_o know_v sinne._n rom._n iiij_o &_o seven_o and_o moreover_o where_o sin_n abound_v there_o grace_v abound_v much_o more_o rom._n v._n and_o such_o like_a place_n for_o assoon_o as_o they_o hear_v this_o they_o straight_o way_n break_v out_o into_o these_o or_o y_z e_z like_o speech_n â—f_o it_o be_v thus_o we_o will_v live_v ydlie_a and_o merry_o we_o will_v do_v to_o good_a work_n at_o all_o and_o yet_o shall_v we_o nevertheless_o be_v save_v and_o justify_v and_o after_o this_o sort_n even_o nowadays_o do_v they_o â—aise_v on_o we_o and_o shameful_o help_v we_o fai_v that_o we_o in_o our_o sermon_n condemn_v and_o dispraise_v good_a work_n but_o we_o may_v not_o think_v it_o any_o marvel_n or_o strange_a thing_n see_v they_o have_v not_o spare_v to_o wrest_v and_o misconstrue_v s._n paul_n word_n you_o therefore_o belove_v sing_v you_o know_v these_o thing_n before_o beware_v lest_o you_o be_v also_o pluck_v away_o with_o the_o error_n of_o the_o wicked_a and_o fall_v from_o your_o own_o steadfastness_n but_o grow_v be_v more_o and_o more_o confirm_v and_o strengthenes_n and_o here_o we_o be_v to_o behold_v and_o note_v the_o great_a care_n that_o the_o apostle_n have_v over_o they_o which_o have_v now_o receive_v the_o faith_n which_o cause_v he_o to_o write_v unto_o they_o these_o two_o epistle_n wherein_o be_v large_o and_o plentiful_o lay_v down_o all_o and_o whatsoever_o be_v expedient_a and_o
