not_o despise_v they_o but_o so_o much_o the_o more_o be_v careful_a to_o prepare_v ourselves_o for_o they_o because_o the_o service_n be_v more_o easy_a &_o the_o promise_n more_o lightsome_a if_o then_o it_o will_v not_o hold_v that_o we_o have_v no_o sacrament_n because_o the_o outward_a seal_n be_v alter_v than_o it_o be_v as_o weak_a a_o consequence_n that_o we_o have_v no_o seven_o day_n the_o duty_n be_v abolish_v because_o the_o authority_n be_v as_o strong_a the_o reason_n as_o good_a and_o the_o same_o reason_n do_v not_o hold_v in_o other_o thing_n again_o they_o object_n that_o to_o a_o christian_n every_o day_n be_v a_o sabbath_n day_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v not_o restrain_v it_o to_o one_o day_n more_o than_o another_o but_o the_o answer_n to_o this_o be_v that_o it_o be_v most_o false_a for_o god_n do_v not_o require_v neither_o be_v a_o christian_n able_a to_o keep_v every_o day_n a_o sabbath_n day_n so_o long_o as_o they_o remain_v on_o earth_n indeed_o but_o that_o you_o shall_v do_v he_o the_o better_a service_n and_o why_o have_v the_o steward_n his_o master_n money_n but_o to_o lay_v it_o out_o for_o his_o master_n profit_n else_o if_o a_o steward_n shall_v say_v i_o have_v the_o keep_n of_o a_o hundred_o or_o two_o of_o pound_n but_o it_o be_v all_o my_o master_n and_o not_o i_o but_o yet_o he_o will_v spend_v it_o frank_o in_o gamn_v come_v as_o curse_n to_o harden_v the_o heart_n to_o make_v they_o proud_a or_o covetous_a and_o more_o strong_a to_o follow_v their_o lust_n last_o this_o serve_v for_o the_o comfort_n of_o god_n true_a child_n and_o faithful_a servant_n that_o since_o god_n give_v all_o thing_n therefore_o sure_o they_o shall_v want_v nothing_o that_o be_v good_a for_o they_o for_o he_o himself_o say_v it_o be_v not_o good_a to_o give_v the_o chlidrens_n bread_n to_o dog_n and_o shall_v we_o think_v then_o that_o he_o will_v do_v it_o do_v god_n feed_v the_o swine_n and_o will_v he_o starve_v his_o child_n and_o therefore_o that_o which_o oftentimes_o they_o take_v as_o a_o discouragement_n that_o vile_a atheist_n profane_a blasphemer_n and_o filthy_a drunken_a swaggerer_n have_v money_n to_o sick_a family_n this_o house_n be_v infect_v with_o the_o plague_n of_o god_n &_o that_o upon_o the_o soul_n this_o be_v a_o most_o miserable_a and_o grievous_a disease_n therefore_o we_o must_v all_o learn_v to_o beware_v of_o this_o baseness_n which_o be_v ordinary_a with_o man_n of_o most_o ability_n of_o all_o in_o the_o parish_n you_o shall_v have_v they_o come_v seldome_a to_o church_n upon_o the_o sabbath_n day_n no_o more_o than_o needs_o they_o must_v but_o upon_o the_o week_n day_n never_o at_o all_o not_o once_o in_o a_o twelve_o month_n and_o if_o you_o ask_v they_o why_o what_o be_v labour_n as_o that_o he_o that_o have_v have_v experience_n of_o they_o one_o year_n will_v not_o be_v persuade_v to_o live_v with_o they_o the_o second_o and_o thus_o they_o trouble_v themselves_o with_o plain_a nigardise_n and_o no_o necessity_n that_o god_n have_v impose_v upon_o they_o this_o man_n common_o call_v good_a husbandry_n and_o thrift_n for_o a_o man_n to_o lay_v about_o he_o so_o and_o take_v on_o and_o do_v all_o himself_o but_o it_o be_v plain_a theft_n before_o god_n for_o one_o to_o spend_v himself_o &_o pull_v a_o want_n upon_o himself_o when_o he_o may_v live_v in_o plenty_n god_n mark_n be_v find_v upon_o he_o for_o a_o wicked_a man_n and_o a_o curse_a sinner_n when_o he_o have_v much_o but_o can_v use_v nothing_o that_o he_o which_o have_v a_o very_a small_a portion_n may_v live_v more_o comfortable_o sleep_v more_o quiet_o pray_v more_o cheerful_o and_o sing_v psalm_n with_o great_a joy_n than_o he_o that_o have_v so_o much_o abundance_n as_o nothing_o hurt_v he_o but_o too_o much_o these_o therefore_o that_o be_v such_o miserable_a bondslave_n to_o lucre_n and_o covetousness_n as_o that_o they_o be_v as_o much_o at_o the_o command_n of_o gain_n both_o for_o their_o body_n &_o their_o sleep_n and_o every_o thing_n as_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n be_v unto_o christ_n jesus_n let_v they_o repent_v of_o there_o thievery_n and_o not_o brag_v of_o their_o honesty_n &_o say_v they_o will_v defy_v he_o that_o will_v call_v they_o thief_n for_o than_o they_o must_v defy_v god_n for_o he_o will_v tell_v they_o they_o be_v thief_n that_o will_v there_o be_v a_o place_n for_o servant_n to_o and_o those_o that_o one_o for_o covetousness_n will_v wear_v himself_o and_o spend_v himself_o and_o spend_v his_o strength_n and_o spirit_n that_o all_o must_v go_v through_o his_o hand_n and_o nothing_o can_v be_v well_o unless_o it_o be_v of_o his_o own_o do_v this_o misdeem_n of_o other_o and_o overcharge_v of_o himself_o be_v a_o damnable_a sin_n and_o care_v to_o break_v it_o any_o further_a than_o the_o law_n of_o man_n will_v take_v hold_n of_o they_o and_o some_o be_v afraid_a lest_o if_o it_o be_v know_v they_o shall_v be_v reprove_v for_o it_o public_o and_o the_o minister_n will_v let_v they_o hear_v of_o it_o in_o the_o church_n but_o if_o they_o can_v keep_v themselves_o close_o from_o the_o magistrate_n and_o minister_n will_v not_o most_v man_n willing_o be_v follow_v their_o business_n that_o day_n this_o be_v to_o proclaim_v themselves_o hypocrite_n and_o that_o they_o have_v no_o fear_n of_o god_n nor_o regard_n of_o he_o in_o their_o heart_n o_o but_o they_o hope_v they_o be_v good_a christian_n and_o do_v keep_v the_o law_n of_o god_n for_o they_o do_v not_o steal_v nor_o swear_v nor_o lie_v but_o do_v they_o not_o know_v that_o god_n speak_v all_o these_o word_n and_o therefore_o he_o have_v no_o sound_a hart_n to_o god_n
and_o his_o word_n and_o minister_n be_v not_o so_o hot_a for_o the_o most_o part_n but_o that_o a_o few_o idle_a clamour_n and_o false_a accusation_n will_v quick_o cool_v it_o and_o then_o have_v draw_v we_o from_o the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n we_o be_v easy_o catch_v and_o persuade_v to_o any_o thing_n so_o that_o no_o opinion_n can_v be_v so_o fantastical_a and_o heretical_a but_o if_o the_o author_n of_o it_o can_v bring_v we_o in_o dislike_n with_o god_n service_n and_o his_o minister_n we_o shall_v be_v ready_a enough_o to_o embrace_v it_o and_o to_o follow_v it_o but_o since_o our_o nature_n be_v so_o prone_a and_o inclinable_a to_o this_o sin_n we_o must_v not_o come_v in_o the_o company_n or_o place_n where_o idolater_n and_o idol_n be_v nor_o let_v our_o eye_n once_o look_v upon_o they_o for_o if_o we_o do_v it_o be_v to_o be_v fear_v lest_o that_o which_o have_v poison_v and_o infect_v other_o may_v poison_v and_o infect_v we_o also_o also_o this_o serve_v to_o confute_v the_o rash_a boldness_n of_o many_o that_o nothing_o consider_v their_o own_o nature_n nor_o the_o filthiness_n and_o poison_n of_o idolatry_n dare_v say_v that_o none_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o infect_v they_o or_o hurt_v they_o indeed_o many_o may_v say_v to_o their_o shame_n that_o none_o shall_v make_v they_o worse_o for_o howsoever_o it_o can_v be_v but_o some_o addition_n will_v be_v to_o their_o sin_n yet_o they_o be_v so_o bad_a already_o that_o they_o can_v hardly_o be_v make_v much_o worse_o by_o any_o company_n yet_o many_o such_o there_o be_v so_o bold_a &_o foolhardy_a that_o think_v it_o a_o childish_a thing_n to_o fear_n lest_o one_o shall_v be_v draw_v to_o worship_v a_o idol_n what_o shall_v i_o bow_v to_o a_o image_n or_o look_v for_o any_o good_a from_o a_o stock_n and_o a_o stone_n but_o what_o will_v they_o say_v of_o solomon_n be_v he_o a_o fool_n do_v he_o want_v wit_n nay_o he_o be_v fill_v full_a of_o all_o wisdom_n and_o be_v belove_v of_o god_n yet_o when_o he_o will_v be_v familiar_a with_o idolater_n he_o can_v not_o keep_v himself_o but_o he_o be_v overtake_v with_o idolatry_n and_o amaziah_n a_o man_n in_o the_o begin_n of_o his_o reign_n that_o walk_v outward_o in_o the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o be_v for_o other_o matter_n a_o good_a and_o valiant_a prince_n when_o he_o will_v but_o look_v on_o these_o adulterer_n &_o idol_n he_o be_v catch_v though_o it_o seem_v he_o have_v many_o thing_n to_o keep_v he_o back_o for_o he_o have_v then_o experience_n of_o their_o weakness_n how_o that_o they_o can_v not_o help_v the_o edomit_n as_o after_o the_o prophet_n tell_v he_o therefore_o this_o be_v not_o courage_n in_o many_o that_o will_v not_o care_v to_o go_v into_o the_o house_n of_o idol_n to_o look_v on_o they_o &_o gaze_v on_o their_o ornament_n &_o picture_n they_o be_v not_o afraid_a to_o go_v to_o see_v &_o hear_v the_o mass_n &_o such_o like_a thing_n indeed_o a_o vagrant_a &_o a_o runagate_n that_o have_v nothing_o care_v not_o whether_o he_o go_v it_o be_v all_o one_o with_o he_o to_o go_v by_o night_n or_o by_o day_n to_o go_v in_o the_o most_o dangerous_a place_n as_o the_o safe_a not_o because_o he_o have_v more_o courage_n &_o strength_n but_o because_o he_o that_o have_v nothing_o can_v loose_v nothing_o and_o so_o these_o vagrant_n and_o runagate_n in_o religion_n that_o have_v no_o piety_n nor_o fear_n of_o god_n they_o care_v not_o to_o bow_v and_o stoop_v and_o do_v any_o thing_n to_o idol_n but_o he_o that_o know_v his_o own_o frailty_n and_o his_o nature_n what_o it_o be_v and_o have_v any_o thing_n to_o loose_v or_o keep_v will_v take_v heed_n and_o beware_v in_o what_o place_n and_o company_n he_o come_v lest_o he_o take_v hurt_v and_o infection_n by_o they_o for_o man_n must_v not_o think_v that_o minister_n have_v least_o strength_n &_o courage_n of_o any_o other_o or_o be_v the_o most_o dastardly_a and_o weak_a man_n because_o they_o will_v not_o willing_o come_v in_o ill_a company_n &_o among_o ill_a person_n &_o hear_v ill_a word_n but_o they_o know_v the_o curse_n of_o god_n on_o those_o that_o do_v so_o and_o they_o know_v their_o own_o weakness_n and_o frailty_n and_o in_o this_o regard_n as_o every_o one_o have_v more_o virtue_n and_o more_o godliness_n so_o he_o will_v more_o beware_v of_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v hurt_v he_o or_o infect_v he_o so_o much_o for_o the_o general_a in_o that_o he_o stand_v so_o large_o in_o forbid_v all_o manner_n of_o idol_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o worship_n show_v how_o apt_a we_o be_v to_o seek_v shift_n in_o this_o point_n thou_o shall_v not_o make_v to_o thyself_o any_o idol_n in_o that_o god_n first_o forbid_v the_o make_n than_o the_o worship_v of_o idol_n the_o doctrine_n that_o we_o baptism_n they_o have_v add_v spittle_n salt_n and_o cream_n and_o such_o trompery_n all_o which_o be_v wicked_a and_o abominable_a and_o come_v under_o this_o who_o require_v these_o thing_n at_o your_o hand_n so_o for_o the_o ministry_n how_o have_v they_o corrupt_v it_o by_o pope_n cardinal_n abbot_n monk_n friar_n &_o the_o rest_n of_o that_o crew_n and_o then_o they_o have_v appoint_v their_o priest_n to_o offer_v a_o sacrifice_n propitiatory_a for_o quick_a and_o dead_a whereof_o there_o be_v no_o mention_n in_o the_o scripture_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o there_o can_v be_v no_o blessing_n upon_o they_o for_o they_o proceed_v from_o the_o flesh_n and_o not_o from_o the_o spirit_n &_o spring_v from_o out_o of_o the_o earth_n &_o do_v not_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n and_o holy_a worship_n of_o god_n be_v enjoin_v and_o we_o be_v command_v here_o to_o stand_v for_o and_o to_o practice_v all_o the_o good_a mean_n whereby_o god_n have_v command_v himself_o to_o be_v worship_v these_o be_v either_o more_o ordinary_a as_o prayer_n hear_v &_o read_v the_o word_n and_o receive_v of_o the_o sacrament_n and_o discipline_n the_o less_o ordinary_a be_v fast_v which_o be_v to_o be_v use_v to_o the_o intent_n that_o we_o may_v the_o more_o sound_o humble_v our_o soul_n before_o god_n and_o be_v reconcile_v unto_o he_o and_o be_v then_o special_o to_o be_v practise_v when_o that_o we_o will_v be_v free_v from_o some_o judgement_n of_o god_n that_o we_o either_o feel_v or_o fear_v or_o else_o when_o we_o will_v obtain_v some_o special_a blessing_n that_o we_o do_v three_o be_v lot_n which_o be_v apart_o of_o god_n worship_n to_o be_v use_v in_o matter_n of_o weight_n to_o the_o decide_n of_o controversy_n to_o the_o end_n of_o strife_n and_o contention_n a_o example_n of_o which_o we_o have_v in_o the_o acts._n 1_o where_o be_v to_o choose_v a_o apostle_n in_o judas_n stead_n and_o not_o know_v the_o fit_a they_o commit_v the_o matter_n to_o god_n special_a piovidence_n in_o cast_v lot_n so_o in_o choose_v of_o a_o king_n which_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o great_a importance_n because_o no_o strife_n and_o contention_n shall_v arise_v of_o any_o matter_n of_o weight_n and_o moment_n than_o these_o lot_n must_v be_v use_v for_o these_o end_n as_o a_o good_a service_n of_o god_n the_o last_o less_o ordinary_a part_n of_o god_n worship_n be_v a_o oath_n which_o be_v in_o like_a matter_n of_o weight_n to_o be_v use_v sith_o these_o thing_n be_v as_o strict_o command_v as_o the_o other_o be_v forbid_v this_o condemn_v the_o corruption_n and_o looseness_n of_o our_o time_n many_o think_v that_o if_o they_o be_v free_a from_o idolatry_n and_o superstition_n than_o they_o have_v keep_v this_o commandment_n and_o have_v not_o break_v this_o thou_o shall_v make_v to_o thyself_o not_o grave_v image_n this_o be_v not_o so_o for_o one_o may_v be_v a_o damnable_a breaker_n of_o this_o commandment_n for_o all_o this_o for_o god_n command_v as_o well_o as_o forbid_v and_o we_o must_v turn_v from_o dumb_a idol_n to_o serve_v the_o live_a god_n or_o else_o there_o be_v no_o true_a conversion_n many_o can_v say_v that_o they_o do_v not_o pray_v superstitious_o but_o do_v they_o ever_o pray_v religious_o they_o spend_v no_o time_n in_o vain_a repetition_n but_o do_v they_o spend_v any_o time_n in_o faithful_a and_o holy_a petition_n pray_v in_o the_o holy_a ghost_n they_o read_v no_o popish_a book_n but_o do_v they_o read_v the_o book_n of_o god_n they_o come_v not_o at_o mass_n but_o do_v they_o reverent_o receive_v the_o lord_n supper_n they_o have_v leave_v off_o popish_a fast_n like_a enough_o for_o we_o be_v fall_v from_o popery_n to_o plain_a impiety_n but_o do_v they_o fast_v a_o christian_n fast_n as_o they_o do_v it_o sinful_o do_v they_o do_v it_o conscionable_o in_o cast_v down_o themselves_o and_o celebrate_v a_o sabbath_n unto_o god_n to_o confess_v their_o sin_n and_o crave_v pardon_n for_o the_o same_o but_o for_o want_v of_o these_o thing_n many_o want_n the_o blessing_n of_o god_n which_o they_o may_v have_v and_o be_v breaker_n of_o this_o commandment_n because_o they_o be_v not_o so_o diligent_a in_o use_v the_o good_a mean_n of_o their_o salvation_n as_o they_o be_v in_o use_v the_o ill_a mean_n of_o their_o destruction_n and_o be_v not_o as_o careful_a to_o plant_v in_o the_o holy_a worship_n of_o god_n as_o to_o pull_v up_o the_o superstitious_a so_o that_o such_o be_v as_o well_o guilty_a of_o the_o breach_n of_o this_o commandment_n as_o idolater_n they_o for_o do_v that_o they_o shall_v not_o we_o for_o not_o do_v that_o we_o shall_v they_o for_o use_v false_a worship_n we_o for_o not_o use_v the_o true_a worship_n of_o god_n but_o then_o we_o shall_v be_v true_a worshipper_n of_o god_n when_o we_o shun_v and_o hate_v all_o false_a worship_n and_o put_v in_o practice_v all_o the_o part_n of_o this_o true_a worship_n of_o the_o true_a god_n so_o much_o of_o the_o commandment_n forbid_v all_o kind_n of_o false_a worship_n and_o command_v the_o contrary_a viz._n with_o all_o reverence_n and_o conscience_n to_o perform_v love_n &_o stand_v
with_o idolater_n for_o this_o be_v to_o join_v ourselves_o to_o those_o that_o hate_v god_n and_o for_o this_o jehosaphat_n be_v reprove_v what_o say_v the_o prophet_n will_v thou_o love_v those_o that_o hate_n god_n &_o help_v they_o what_o have_v thou_o to_o do_v to_o be_v so_o friendly_a &_o familiar_a with_o god_n enemy_n yet_o if_o one_o have_v come_v to_o ahab_n and_o tell_v he_o that_o he_o have_v hate_v god_n he_o will_v have_v defy_v he_o and_o say_v that_o he_o have_v love_v god_n as_o well_o as_o the_o best_a but_o that_o be_v no_o matter_n what_o ahab_n will_v say_v so_o long_o as_o god_n account_v he_o a_o enemy_n jehoshaphat_n shall_v have_v have_v no_o society_n nor_o friendship_n with_o he_o so_o that_o they_o be_v much_o to_o be_v condemn_v that_o will_v seem_v to_o have_v some_o care_n of_o religion_n themselves_o and_o to_o look_v to_o their_o own_o way_n that_o they_o be_v good_a but_o yet_o they_o can_v be_v familiar_a &_o make_v friendship_n with_o idolater_n and_o profess_a superstitious_a person_n why_o but_o be_v not_o this_o a_o hatred_n of_o god_n and_o be_v not_o you_o then_o subject_a to_o that_o reproof_n of_o jehoshaphat_n what_o will_v thou_o love_v they_o that_o hate_v i_o no_o man_n will_v be_v know_v to_o be_v a_o familiar_a friend_n to_o a_o open_a traitor_n that_o the_o king_n &_o counsel_n have_v proclaim_v a_o traitor_n for_o fear_v lest_o he_o shall_v be_v taint_v with_o some_o suspicion_n of_o treason_n and_o in_o deed_n he_o that_o will_v be_v so_o conversant_a and_o so_o well_o acquaint_v with_o such_o as_o god_n have_v proclaim_v traitor_n those_o that_o have_v any_o spiritual_a wisdom_n and_o true_a love_n of_o god_n may_v not_o without_o just_a cause_n vehement_o suspect_v he_o as_o one_o that_o himself_o man_n about_o the_o market_n of_o their_o body_n we_o must_v learn_v for_o this_o market_n of_o our_o soul_n they_o will_v be_v provide_v and_o think_v before_o what_o they_o must_v buy_v at_o the_o market_n and_o what_o they_o must_v carry_v to_o the_o market_n and_o will_v not_o have_v the_o thing_n to_o be_v in_o do_v when_o they_o shall_v have_v they_o ready_a to_o carry_v with_o they_o but_o look_v that_o the_o thing_n they_o purpose_v to_o sell_v be_v prepare_v that_o so_o they_o may_v not_o be_v hinder_v but_o be_v there_o in_o good_a time_n to_o make_v their_o market_n for_o their_o best_a advantage_n so_o if_o ever_o we_o will_v make_v good_a market_n for_o our_o soul_n we_o must_v all_o the_o week_n before_o be_v prepare_v our_o heart_n and_o set_v all_o thing_n straight_o that_o our_o heart_n may_v be_v burden_v with_o no_o sin_n nor_o no_o worldly_a care_v they_o which_o shall_v carry_v away_o the_o force_n of_o our_o meditation_n &_o thought_n from_o the_o exercise_n &_o profitable_o spend_v the_o lord_n day_n in_o the_o lord_n work_v then_o again_o beside_o these_o needless_a let_n which_o through_o our_o own_o weakness_n we_o pull_v upon_o our_o own_o head_n commodity_n of_o this_o world_n that_o unless_o we_o be_v strong_o guard_v and_o defend_v will_v break_v in_o upon_o our_o heart_n and_o disorder_v the_o rank_n of_o our_o affection_n as_o come_v to_o a_o professor_n that_o be_v give_v to_o covetousness_n and_o over_o to_o who_o the_o world_n bear_v to_o great_a a_o hand_n though_o he_o have_v a_o true_a hart_n to_o god_n and_o some_o sound_a grace_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n wrought_v in_o he_o do_v but_o up_o some_o covetous_a talk_n that_o tend_v towards_o gain_n and_o filthy_a lucre_n see_v if_o he_o will_v not_o be_v quite_o go_v and_o forget_v god_n and_o the_o sabbath_n and_o himself_o and_o all_o give_v his_o hart_n and_o tongue_n and_o all_o to_o be_v employ_v about_o worldly_a thing_n unless_o he_o mound_n and_o fence_v his_o hart_n about_o diligent_o with_o these_o thought_n what_o though_o i_o do_v have_v not_o god_n bid_v i_o remember_v the_o sabbath_n have_v he_o not_o set_v a_o special_a mark_n upon_o it_o as_o christ_n jesus_n offer_v up_o for_o a_o sacrifice_n offer_v up_o once_o for_o all_o and_o the_o sprinkle_n of_o his_o blood_n to_o purify_v our_o soul_n and_o the_o heavenly_a tabernacle_n open_v for_o we_o by_o he_o our_o heavenly_a high_a priest_n and_o continual_a mediator_n shall_v we_o i_o say_v that_o have_v all_o these_o mean_n more_o plain_a &_o excellent_a than_o they_o be_v negligent_a to_o keep_v this_o sabbath_n especial_o since_o god_n have_v give_v we_o this_o as_o a_o mean_n to_o draw_v we_o from_o earth_n to_o heaven_n and_o to_o make_v we_o grow_v in_o a_o reason_n &_o by_o a_o wise_a cut_n of_o those_o distraction_n which_o by_o diligence_n may_v be_v cut_v of_o we_o can_v with_o any_o comfort_n or_o cheerful_o celebrate_v a_o sabbath_n unto_o the_o
