for_o our_o whole_a duty_n be_v still_o require_v then_o why_o shall_v not_o our_o whole_a due_n be_v pay_v and_o yet_o that_o the_o world_n may_v learn_v of_o we_o contentedness_n as_o well_o by_o devil_n himself_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o answer_v and_o who_o when_o thy_o soul_n be_v sick_a to_o death_n and_o even_o to_o damnation_n can_v heal_v the_o deadly_a wound_n thereof_o a_o good_a minister_n therefore_o be_v worthy_a as_o the_o apostle_n say_v of_o double_a honour_n who_o duty_n we_o see_v be_v to_o declare_v unto_o man_n his_o righteousness_n and_o to_o conclude_v this_o point_n also_o the_o consideration_n of_o the_o height_n of_o this_o office_n of_o a_o minister_n may_v encourage_v father_n to_o dedicate_v their_o son_n to_o this_o holy_a minister_n call_n for_o the_o physician_n care_v for_o the_o body_n or_o the_o lawyer_n for_o thy_o cause_n be_v both_o inferior_a duty_n to_o this_o of_o the_o mininister_n a_o good_a lawyer_n may_v be_v one_o of_o ten_o a_o good_a physician_n one_o of_o 20._o a_o good_a man_n one_o of_o 100_o but_o a_o good_a minister_n be_v one_o of_o 1000_o a_o good_a lawyer_n may_v declare_v the_o true_a state_n of_o thy_o cause_n a_o good_a physician_n may_v declare_v the_o true_a state_n of_o thy_o body_n no_o calling_n no_o man_n can_v declare_v unto_o thou_o thy_o righteousness_n but_o a_o true_a minister_n and_o thus_o we_o see_v the_o office_n or_o function_n of_o a_o minister_n now_o follow_v the_o blessing_n then_o will_v he_o have_v mercy_n upon_o he_o the_o four_o general_a part_n of_o this_o description_n sinner_n be_v the_o blessing_n which_o god_n give_v to_o the_o labour_n and_o function_n of_o a_o true_a minister_n then_o that_o be_v when_o a_o man_n by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o law_n be_v bring_v to_o true_a humiliation_n and_o repentance_n and_o by_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o gospel_n to_o true_a faith_n in_o the_o messiah_n then_o will_v he_o that_o be_v god_n have_v mercy_n on_o he_o that_o be_v on_o the_o penitent_a and_o believe_a sinner_n behold_v here_o the_o admirable_a sympathy_n and_o the_o cooperation_n of_o god_n and_o the_o minister_n office_n man_n preach_v and_o god_n bless_v man_n work_v on_o the_o heart_n and_o god_n give_v grace_n a_o minister_n declare_v unto_o man_n his_o righteousness_n and_o god_n say_v so_o be_v it_o he_o shall_v be_v righteous_a a_o minister_n pronounce_v mercy_n to_o a_o penitent_a sinner_n and_o forthwith_o god_n have_v mercy_n on_o he_o here_o we_o see_v the_o great_a and_o glorious_a together_o account_n which_o god_n make_v of_o the_o word_n of_o his_o minister_n by_o they_o true_o teach_v and_o right_o apply_v namely_o that_o he_o as_o it_o be_v tie_v his_o blessing_n unto_o it_o for_o ordinary_o till_o a_o man_n know_v his_o righteousness_n by_o the_o mean_n of_o a_o interpreter_n god_n have_v not_o mercy_n on_o he_o but_o as_o soon_o as_o he_o do_v know_v it_o then_o as_o we_o see_v here_o blessing_n unto_o it_o &_o work_v when_o they_o work_v and_o as_o it_o be_v stay_v wait_v when_o they_o declare_v unto_o a_o man_n his_o righteousness_n and_o then_o have_v he_o mercy_n on_o he_o so_o powerful_a and_o so_o effectual_a be_v the_o word_n speak_v by_o a_o minister_n of_o god_n this_o be_v that_o 16._o which_o christ_n avouch_v whatsoever_o you_o lose_v in_o earth_n shall_v be_v loose_v in_o heaven_n will_v 23._o you_o know_v the_o meaning_n hereof_o read_v saint_n john_n who_o sin_n soever_o you_o remit_v they_o be_v remit_v who_o you_o retain_v they_o be_v 26._o retain_v justice_n as_o due_a unto_o he_o for_o the_o same_o here_o he_o bind_v on_o earth_n here_o he_o retain_v on_o earth_n this_o man_n sin_n be_v likewise_o bind_v &_o retain_v in_o heaven_n on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o see_v a_o man_n penitent_a &_o believe_v he_o pronounce_v forgiveness_n of_o sin_n &_o happiness_n unto_o he_o for_o the_o same_o he_o lose_v he_o from_o the_o band_n of_o his_o must_v touch_v his_o lip_n that_o which_o in_o all_o reason_n will_v have_v make_v he_o speak_v worse_o by_o god_n appointment_n and_o the_o power_n of_o his_o word_n shall_v make_v he_o speak_v better_o out_o of_o which_o practice_n of_o god_n we_o learn_v many_o point_n first_o see_v how_o god_n magnify_v mean_n mean_n he_o can_v work_v without_o they_o and_o so_o he_o do_v in_o the_o creation_n give_v light_n to_o the_o world_n diverse_a day_n before_o there_o be_v sun_n but_o since_o the_o order_n of_o 17._o nature_n be_v establish_v he_o general_o use_v mean_n not_o only_o in_o his_o ordinary_n but_o even_o in_o his_o miraculous_a action_n and_o they_o though_o he_o use_v not_o always_o the_o ordinary_a and_o direct_a mean_n yet_o mean_v he_o general_o use_v though_o they_o seem_v contrary_a as_o here_o in_o this_o place_n and_o the_o same_o will_v be_v find_v true_a in_o almost_o all_o the_o miracle_n both_o of_o the_o old_a and_o new_a testament_n this_o therefore_o commend_v unto_o all_o purpose_n man_n the_o use_n of_o such_o good_a mean_n as_o god_n providence_n have_v ordain_v of_o any_o duty_n or_o effect_v of_o any_o thing_n that_o do_v belong_v unto_o we_o to_o do_v and_o not_o to_o depend_v upon_o immediate_a help_n from_o heaven_n as_o many_o fond_a and_o fantastical_a man_n do_v who_o be_v therefore_o oftentimes_o just_o forsake_v of_o god_n and_o leave_v destitute_a of_o all_o help_n and_o so_o expose_v to_o shame_n and_o reproach_n second_o see_v here_o the_o mighty_a power_n of_o god_n ordinance_n how_o it_o appear_v weakness_n in_o weakness_n such_o be_v all_o his_o great_a work_n in_o the_o creation_n he_o bring_v light_a out_o of_o darkness_n in_o our_o redemption_n he_o bring_v we_o life_n out_o of_o death_n in_o our_o conversion_n he_o work_v upon_o we_o by_o his_o word_n &_o by_o it_o he_o draw_v we_o to_o he_o which_o in_o all_o reason_n will_v drive_v we_o from_o he_o and_o by_o it_o confound_v the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o world_n which_o be_v stark_a foolishness_n to_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o world_n and_o so_o here_o he_o cleanse_v the_o prophet_n by_o a_o coal_n of_o fire_n which_o will_v rather_o defile_v he_o and_o season_v his_o mouth_n with_o it_o which_o in_o reason_n shall_v have_v burn_v he_o so_o great_a so_o admirable_a and_o so_o powerful_a be_v the_o ordinance_n of_o god_n though_o they_o seem_v so_o contrary_a or_o so_o weak_a in_o themselves_o or_o in_o their_o mean_n let_v this_o teach_v all_o man_n not_o to_o contemn_v the_o sacrament_n though_o the_o outward_a base_a element_n bread_n wine_n and_o water_n be_v weak_a and_o common_a and_o dead_a creature_n in_o themselves_o nor_o the_o ministry_n of_o the_o word_n though_o it_o be_v exercise_v by_o a_o weak_a man_n mortal_a &_o miserable_a as_o other_o be_v for_o that_o god_n which_o can_v season_v the_o prophet_n mouth_n and_o cleanse_v his_o heart_n by_o a_o coal_n of_o fire_n no_o marvel_n though_o he_o work_v upon_o the_o conscience_n of_o man_n by_o his_o word_n and_o sacrament_n and_o again_o when_o we_o see_v grace_n and_o holiness_n convey_v into_o man_n heart_n by_o the_o word_n and_o sacrament_n let_v we_o learn_v not_o to_o ascribe_v it_o to_o the_o dignity_n either_o of_o the_o minister_n or_o the_o element_n but_o to_o the_o supreme_a power_n of_o the_o mighty_a god_n who_o can_v purge_v the_o prophet_n by_o a_o coal_n from_o the_o altar_n neither_o be_v it_o altogether_o without_o mystery_n tongue_n that_o god_n here_o sanctify_v the_o prophet_n by_o touch_v his_o lip_n with_o a_o fiery_a coal_n for_o it_o signify_v that_o the_o apt_a &_o sufficient_a teacher_n must_v have_v a_o fiery_a tongue_n and_o to_o that_o same_o purpose_n the_o holy_a ghost_n come_v down_o upon_o the_o apostle_n in_o fiery_a tongue_n &_o it_o may_v be_v that_o the_o one_o be_v a_o type_n of_o the_o other_o certain_a it_o be_v that_o they_o sin_n both_o teach_v we_o thus_o much_o that_o all_o true_a and_o able_a minister_n must_v pray_v and_o endeavour_n to_o have_v a_o tongue_n full_a of_o power_n and_o force_n even_o like_o fire_n to_o eat_v up_o the_o sin_n and_o corruption_n of_o the_o world_n for_o though_o it_o be_v a_o worthy_a gift_n of_o god_n to_o speak_v mild_o and_o moderate_o so_o that_o his_o speech_n shall_v fall_v like_o dew_n upon_o the_o grass_n yet_o it_o be_v the_o firerie_a tongue_n that_o beat_v down_o sin_n and_o work_v sound_a grace_n in_o the_o heart_n it_o may_v be_v there_o be_v some_o which_o need_v the_o fiery_a tongue_n this_o show_v apparent_o that_o those_o minister_n never_o have_v their_o lip_n touch_v with_o a_o coal_n from_o god_n altar_n that_o be_v their_o soul_n with_o a_o coal_n from_o god_n altar_n that_o be_v their_o sin_n conscience_n never_o touch_v nor_o their_o soul_n season_v with_o the_o sanctify_a grace_n of_o god_n spirit_n which_o sit_v still_o and_o see_v great_a and_o grievous_a stain_n in_o a_o church_n and_o corruption_n in_o a_o state_n and_o can_v be_v content_a never_o to_o reprove_v they_o as_o though_o minister_n be_v persuader_n only_o and_o not_o reprover_n but_o when_o this_o come_v to_o be_v weigh_v in_o the_o balance_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n it_o will_v be_v find_v that_o not_o the_o please_a tongue_n but_o the_o fiery_a tongue_n be_v the_o principal_a grace_n of_o a_o good_a minister_n but_o to_o go_v further_o whence_o come_v this_o coal_n heaven_n take_a from_o the_o altar_n this_o coal_n of_o fire_n be_v take_v by_o the_o angel_n from_o the_o altar_n of_o god_n where_o be_v a_o fire_n which_o never_o go_v out_o and_o this_o fire_n be_v that_o that_o come_v from_o heaven_n send_v down_o by_o god_n at_o the_o dedication_n of_o the_o temple_n by_o solomon_n and_o this_o fire_n kindle_v by_o god_n never_o go_v out_o for_o no_o man_n can_v kindle_v the_o like_a but_o all_o other_o be_v count_v strange_a fire_n as_o nadab_n and_o abihu_n try_v in_o woeful_a experience_n when_o they_o will_v needs_o offer_v with_o in_o now_o the_o prophet_n must_v be_v cleanse_v with_o the_o fire_n which_o come_v from_o heaven_n 2._o teach_v we_o that_o the_o minister_n must_v spirit_n have_v his_o fiery_a tongue_n from_o the_o holy_a ghost_n as_o the_o apostle_n be_v say_v to_o be_v baptize_v with_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o with_o fire_n a_o fiery_a tongue_n be_v a_o special_a ornament_n of_o a_o minister_n but_o that_o fire_n must_v come_v from_o heaven_n that_o be_v his_o zeal_n must_v be_v a_o godly_a 11._o and_o heavenly_a zeal_n but_o he_o that_o have_v a_o rail_n lie_a a_o slanderous_a a_o malicious_a or_o a_o contentious_a tongue_n he_o have_v a_o affection_n fiery_a tongue_n indeed_o but_o this_o be_v kindle_v of_o the_o sire_n of_o hell_n as_o s._n james_n say_v the_o unbridled_a tongue_n be_v a_o world_n of_o wickedness_n 6_o and_o defile_v the_o whole_a body_n set_v on_o fire_n the_o whole_a course_n of_o nature_n and_o be_v set_v on_o fire_n in_o hell_n so_o then_o a_o spiteful_a and_o malicious_a tongue_n we_o see_v be_v a_o fiery_a tongue_n but_o heaven_n that_o fire_n be_v take_v from_o hell_n and_o not_o from_o god_n altar_n and_o he_o that_o stand_v up_o to_o preach_v with_o this_o tongue_n god_n will_v never_o suffer_v any_o great_a work_n to_o be_v do_v by_o he_o in_o his_o church_n though_o his_o tongue_n be_v never_o so_o fiery_a and_o his_o speech_n never_o so_o powerful_a as_o therefore_o minister_n must_v abhor_v the_o flatter_a and_o please_a tongue_n and_o must_v have_v a_o fiery_a tongue_n so_o on_o the_o other_o side_n this_o fire_n must_v be_v from_o god_n altar_n that_o be_v the_o fire_n of_o their_o zeal_n must_v be_v kindle_v by_o god_n spirit_n and_o not_o by_o the_o spirit_n of_o discord_n and_o dissension_n ambitious_a humour_n turbulent_a &_o proud_a humour_n new_a opinion_n private_a quarrel_n all_o these_o nor_o none_o of_o these_o be_v for_o the_o pulpit_n these_o may_v make_v a_o man_n fiery_a tongue_v but_o this_o fire_n be_v never_o take_v from_o god_n altar_n as_o the_o prophet_n be_v this_o fiery_a tongue_n never_o come_v from_o heaven_n as_o the_o apostle_n do_v it_o follow_v and_o touch_v my_o lip_n this_o five_o and_o last_o circumstance_n be_v the_o application_n of_o the_o remedy_n the_o coal_n which_o be_v the_o medicine_n be_v apply_v by_o pollute_v this_o angel_n to_o his_o lip_n that_o be_v to_o that_o part_n which_o be_v pollute_v and_o as_o he_o former_o complain_v of_o the_o pollution_n of_o his_o lip_n so_o the_o medicine_n be_v apply_v to_o his_o lip_n here_o the_o angel_n which_o in_o this_o case_n be_v make_v god_n minister_n do_v teach_v all_o god_n minister_n a_o great_a point_n of_o wisdom_n fit_o in_o heavenly_a divinity_n namely_o to_o
of_o all_o sin_n make_v a_o man_n bold_a in_o god_n presence_n and_o rather_o desirous_a then_o afraid_a to_o behold_v god_n glory_n which_o shall_v be_v most_o apparent_a at_o the_o last_o day_n for_o when_o the_o wicked_a shall_v desire_v rather_o to_o be_v cover_v 27._o with_o the_o hill_n and_o ground_n to_o dust_n by_o the_o mountain_n then_o to_o appear_v before_o the_o face_n of_o god_n then_o shall_v the_o godly_a who_o holiness_n shall_v then_o be_v perfect_a look_v up_o and_o lift_v up_o their_o head_n because_o their_o redemption_n be_v so_o nigh_o and_o job_n testify_v of_o outward_a sign_n a_o coal_n from_o the_o altar_n 5_o the_o outward_a action_n or_o application_n of_o it_o he_o touch_v his_o lip_n the_o matter_n of_o the_o consolation_n be_v last_o in_o order_n let_v we_o therefore_o first_o speak_v of_o the_o circumstance_n the_o first_o circumstance_n be_v the_o time_n fear_n when_o this_o prophet_n be_v comfort_v and_o raise_v from_o his_o fear_n then_o of_o themselves_o find_v nothing_o in_o themselves_o but_o cause_n of_o fear_n and_o astonishment_n then_o power_v he_o the_o oil_n of_o grace_n and_o of_o sweet_a comfort_n into_o their_o heart_n &_o refresh_v their_o weary_a soul_n with_o the_o dew_n of_o his_o mercy_n this_o point_n need_v no_o further_a proof_n for_o look_v into_o the_o scripture_n &_o we_o shall_v find_v god_n never_o call_v any_o man_n to_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n or_o to_o any_o notable_a work_n or_o function_n in_o his_o church_n but_o he_o first_o humble_v they_o and_o then_o bring_v they_o out_o of_o all_o conceit_n with_o themselves_o and_o then_o wrought_v in_o they_o and_o by_o they_o his_o wonderful_a work_n the_o use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n be_v first_o of_o all_o to_o teach_v all_o man_n to_o the_o 9_o hungry_a with_o good_a thing_n but_o the_o rich_a he_o send_v empty_a away_o and_o so_o the_o psalmist_n god_n satisfy_v the_o hungry_a soul_n and_o fill_v the_o empty_a soul_n with_o this_o day_n their_o protection_n and_o comfortable_a assistance_n be_v no_o less_o present_a to_o the_o godly_a minister_n of_o the_o new_a testament_n though_o not_o in_o such_o sensible_a sign_n and_o such_o visible_a manner_n as_o in_o the_o old_a for_o if_o they_o be_v minister_a spirit_n send_v out_o for_o the_o good_a of_o they_o which_o shall_v be_v save_v how_o much_o more_o for_o their_o good_a which_o shall_v be_v both_o save_v themselves_o and_o save_v other_o also_o a_o doctrine_n of_o great_a comfort_n and_o other_o much_o good_a use_n to_o all_o minister_n who_o first_o of_o all_o may_v here_o learn_v contentment_n intheir_o call_v for_o howsoever_o no_o calling_n have_v more_o cross_n so_o none_o again_o have_v more_o comfort_n and_o howsoever_o none_o be_v more_o disgrace_v by_o evillman_n yet_o none_o be_v more_o honour_a by_o the_o holy_a angel_n and_o howsoever_o in_o this_o world_n they_o above_o any_o call_n be_v servant_n to_o all_o man_n yet_o none_o comfortable_a experience_n of_o these_o day_n of_o we_o do_v verify_v the_o truth_n hereof_o minister_n that_o live_v in_o place_n very_o profane_a or_o very_o popish_a it_o be_v admirable_a to_o see_v how_o many_o danger_n they_o have_v escape_v and_o plot_n they_o have_v avoid_v which_o by_o their_o enemy_n or_o rather_o the_o enemy_n of_o their_o doctrine_n have_v bone_n lay_v for_o their_o life_n which_o their_o deliverance_n and_o many_o other_o comfort_n in_o their_o ministry_n whence_o be_v they_o but_o from_o god_n protection_n by_o the_o ministry_n of_o his_o question_n angel_n reason_n afore_o we_o leave_v this_o point_n two_o question_n may_v be_v ask_v not_o amiss_o brief_o to_o be_v resolve_v first_o if_o any_o ask_v whence_o come_v it_o that_o angel_n perform_v more_o who_o they_o esteem_v their_o fellow_n call_n second_o it_o shall_v teach_v all_o minister_n not_o to_o content_v themselves_o with_o the_o name_n and_o title_n but_o to_o labour_v to_o be_v good_a and_o faithful_a for_o so_o do_v they_o be_v fellow_n to_o the_o angel_n and_o it_o be_v a_o disgrace_n to_o the_o angel_n when_o
