and_o threaten_v in_o term_n which_o seem_v absolute_a but_o include_v a_o condition_n or_o have_v a_o exception_n tacit_o involve_v which_o condition_n or_o exception_n the_o lord_n conceal_v that_o they_o who_o the_o promise_n or_o threat_n concern_v may_v be_v the_o more_o earnest_a with_o the_o lord_n to_o hasten_v his_o promise_n or_o remove_v his_o threat_n 2._o then_o hezekiah_n turn_v his_o face_n towards_o the_o wall_n and_o pray_v etc._n etc._n hezekiah_n turn_v his_o face_n towards_o the_o wall_n as_o he_o lie_v in_o his_o bed_n that_o he_o may_v pray_v to_o god_n with_o the_o more_o intention_n of_o mind_n while_o he_o turn_v his_o face_n from_o those_o which_o stand_v by_o and_o remove_v his_o eye_n from_o distract_n object_n and_o pray_v unto_o the_o lord_n to_o wit_n to_o spare_v his_o life_n 3._o remember_v now_o o_o lord_n i_o beseech_v thou_o how_o i_o have_v walk_v before_o thou_o etc._n etc._n to_o walk_v before_o god_n be_v so_o to_o live_v as_o if_o we_o have_v god_n always_o before_o our_o eye_n and_o they_o that_o so_o live_v strive_v to_o please_v he_o as_o a_o servant_n be_v always_o diligent_a and_o careful_a to_o please_v his_o master_n when_o such_o time_n be_v first_o that_o they_o may_v the_o more_o incline_v the_o lord_n to_o mercy_n for_o the_o lord_n be_v more_o ready_a to_o show_v mercy_n to_o those_o which_o endeavour_n to_o live_v according_a to_o his_o law_n then_o to_o those_o which_o neglect_v they_o second_o that_o they_o may_v sustain_v themselves_o against_o the_o pusillanimity_n and_o faintheartedness_n which_o may_v assail_v they_o be_v prone_a by_o nature_n thereto_o for_o the_o testimony_n of_o a_o good_a conscience_n produce_v boldness_n towards_o god_n 1_o pet._n 3.21_o but_o beside_o these_o hezekiah_n may_v have_v a_o special_a reason_n to_o move_v he_o to_o mention_v his_o good_a deed_n and_o that_o be_v this_o because_o the_o lord_n make_v a_o promise_n to_o david_n say_v if_o thy_o child_n take_v heed_n to_o their_o way_n to_o walk_v before_o i_o in_o truth_n with_o all_o their_o heart_n and_o with_o all_o their_o soul_n there_o shall_v not_o fail_v thou_o a_o man_n on_o the_o throne_n of_o israel_n 1_o king_n 2.4_o and_o at_o this_o time_n hezekiah_n have_v not_o a_o child_n to_o succeed_v he_o in_o the_o throne_n and_o hezekiah_n weep_v sore_o viz._n because_o god_n have_v say_v unto_o he_o thou_o shall_v die_v and_o not_o live_v v._o 1._o it_o may_v be_v ask_v here_o why_o hezekiah_n shall_v weep_v sore_o to_o hear_v that_o he_o shall_v die_v answ_n a_o general_a reason_n may_v be_v this_o because_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n in_o which_o hezekiah_n live_v the_o hope_n of_o eternal_a life_n be_v not_o so_o great_a as_o it_o be_v under_o the_o gospel_n because_o the_o glory_n to_o come_v be_v not_o so_o full_o reveal_v then_o as_o it_o be_v now_o ephes_n 3.5_o therefore_o be_v death_n more_o fear_v then_o now_o it_o be_v but_o beside_o this_o hezekiah_n may_v have_v many_o particular_a reason_n for_o which_o he_o weep_v at_o the_o hear_n of_o his_o death_n as_o first_o because_o if_o he_o shall_v die_v than_o he_o shall_v leave_v judah_n and_o jerusalem_n under_o the_o pressure_n
abominable_a to_o the_o lord_n he_o say_v abomination_n for_o abominable_a by_o a_o metonymy_n put_v a_o abstract_n for_o a_o concrete_a 20._o he_o feed_v on_o ash_n this_o seem_v to_o be_v a_o proverb_n and_o to_o be_v speak_v of_o such_o as_o think_v that_o they_o have_v the_o substance_n of_o a_o thing_n when_o they_o have_v only_o the_o shadow_n or_o that_o think_v they_o have_v that_o which_o can_v profit_v they_o when_o they_o have_v that_o which_o can_v stand_v they_o in_o any_o stead_n and_o it_o be_v apply_v to_o these_o man_n because_o when_o they_o have_v make_v themselves_o a_o idol_n they_o think_v that_o they_o have_v make_v they_o a_o god_n which_o can_v save_v they_o when_o as_o indeed_o this_o their_o god_n can_v not_o profit_v they_o at_o all_o verse_n 9_o the_o reason_n of_o the_o proverb_n be_v this_o that_o ash_n though_o they_o be_v like_a to_o the_o flower_n of_o wheat_n which_o nourish_v a_o man_n yet_o they_o that_o feed_v on_o ash_n shall_v find_v no_o nourishment_n there_o by_o accrue_v to_o they_o but_o hurt_v rather_o he_o feed_v of_o ash_n observe_v the_o enallage_n of_o the_o number_n how_o he_o pass_v from_o a_o plural_a number_n which_o he_o use_v in_o the_o eighteen_o verse_n to_o a_o singular_a a_o deceive_v heart_n i._n e._n a_o heart_n deceive_v with_o this_o false_a persuasion_n or_o conceit_n that_o there_o be_v divinity_n in_o a_o idol_n or_o in_o a_o grave_a image_n have_v turn_v he_o aside_o supple_a from_o the_o truth_n viz._n this_o truth_n that_o the_o lord_n only_o be_v god_n and_o that_o a_o idol_n be_v nothing_o that_o he_o can_v deliver_v his_o soul_n i._n e._n so_o that_o he_o can_v deliver_v himself_o supple_a from_o error_n or_o falsehood_n to_o wit_n the_o error_n or_o falsehood_n which_o he_o have_v conceive_v against_o the_o unity_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o divinity_n of_o a_o idol_n be_v there_o not_o a_o lie_n in_o my_o right_a hand_n i._o e._n be_v not_o that_o which_o i_o hold_v in_o my_o right_a hand_n a_o lie_n that_o be_v be_v not_o that_o which_o i_o make_v so_o much_o of_o a_o mere_a figment_n a_o thing_n which_o i_o take_v for_o a_o god_n but_o be_v not_o a_o god_n he_o speak_v of_o a_o idol_n here_o and_o he_o call_v a_o idol_n a_o lie_n because_o as_o a_o lie_n though_o it_o have_v oft_o time_n the_o show_n of_o truth_n yet_o it_o be_v far_o from_o truth_n and_o have_v no_o conformity_n with_o the_o thing_n which_o the_o word_n signify_v so_o a_o idol_n though_o it_o look_v like_o a_o god_n in_o the_o sight_n of_o a_o idolater_n yet_o it_o be_v far_o from_o be_v a_o god_n and_o have_v no_o conformity_n with_o the_o godhead_n for_o the_o godhead_n be_v uncreated_a a_o idol_n be_v make_v and_o a_o idol_n be_v make_v of_o silver_n or_o gold_n or_o stone_n or_o wood_n but_o we_o ought_v not_o to_o think_v that_o the_o godhead_n be_v lâ—ke_v unâ—o_o silver_n or_o gold_n or_o stone_n or_o wood_n grave_v by_o art_n or_o man_n device_n act_n 17.29_o in_o my_o which_o make_v a_o idol_n or_o image_n after_o this_o manner_n and_o call_v often_o to_o mind_n how_o blind_a and_o foolish_a they_o be_v and_o how_o they_o be_v without_o understanding_n that_o thou_o by_o remember_v they_o may_v detest_v and_o loathe_v their_o do_n and_o the_o idol_n and_o grave_a image_n which_o they_o make_v we_o be_v admonish_v to_o remember_v man_n sometime_o that_o
