no_o man_n do_v or_o can_v preach_v one_o sermon_n without_o use_v some_o word_n or_o word_n that_o be_v not_o express_o in_o the_o scripture_n and_o as_o our_o sincere_a obedience_n may_v be_v and_o real_o be_v a_o condition_n of_o obtain_v eternal_a salvation_n though_o it_o be_v not_o express_o call_v by_o that_o name_n in_o scripture_n so_o may_v it_o be_v and_o real_o it_o be_v a_o condition_n though_o it_o be_v perform_v by_o the_o help_n of_o god_n grace_n we_o know_v this_o be_v the_o main_a reason_n why_o our_o brethren_n think_v that_o neither_o our_o faith_n nor_o christ_n for_o thus_o christ_n pray_v for_o many_o of_o they_o luke_o 23.34_o father_n forgive_v they_o for_o they_o know_v not_o what_o they_o do_v peter_n also_o confess_v to_o themselves_o that_o it_o be_v through_o ignorance_n that_o they_o crncify_v christ_n act_v 3.17_o and_o paul_n write_v to_o the_o corinthian_n 1_o cor._n 2.7_o 8._o say_v that_o have_v they_o know_v the_o hide_a wisdom_n of_o god_n in_o a_o mystery_n they_o will_v not_o have_v crucify_a the_o lord_n of_o glory_n whence_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o either_o they_o have_v no_o notion_n of_o faith_n in_o christ_n and_o jesus_n christ_n that_o even_o the_o enemy_n of_o christ_n some_o way_n understand_v what_o it_o be_v because_o they_o have_v some_o wrong_n and_o false_a notion_n of_o it_o be_v both_o impertinent_a and_o ridiculous_a and_o be_v such_o a_o answer_n as_o be_v more_o apt_a to_o make_v a_o unbeliever_n laugh_v at_o christ_n minister_n and_o harden_v and_o confirm_v he_o in_o his_o unbelief_n than_o to_o move_v he_o unto_o seriousness_n and_o to_o persuade_v he_o to_o believe_v so_o much_o for_o the_o unbeliever_n first_o pertinent_a question_n and_o our_o author_n impertinent_a answer_n to_o it_o we_o pass_v on_o to_o the_o other_o question_n and_o answer_n as_o he_o have_v set_v they_o down_o in_o the_o 16_o and_o 17_o page_n of_o his_o letter_n quest_n 2._o unbeliever_n what_o be_v a_o man_n to_o believe_v to_o wit_n at_o first_o minister_n answer_v he_o be_v not_o call_v to_o believe_v that_o he_o be_v in_o chaste_a and_o that_o his_o sin_n be_v pardon_v and_o he_o a_o justify_v man_n but_o he_o be_v to_o believe_v god_n record_n concern_v christ_n 1_o john_n 5.10_o 11_o 12._o and_o this_o record_n be_v that_o god_n give_v that_o be_v offer_v to_o we_o eternal_a life_n in_o his_o son_n jesus_n christ_n and_o that_o all_o who_o with_o the_o heart_n believe_v this_o report_n and_o rest_v their_o soul_n on_o these_o glad_a tiding_n shall_v be_v save_v rom._n 10.9_o 10_o 11._o and_o thus_o he_o be_v to_o believe_v that_o he_o may_v be_v justify_v gal._n 2.16_o this_o answer_n be_v in_o itself_o true_a and_o good_a but_o in_o and_o from_o the_o mouth_n of_o our_o to_o believe_v because_o if_o he_o attentive_o read_v and_o consider_v our_o author_n letter_n he_o will_v see_v cause_n to_o doubt_v whether_o in_o this_o matter_n he_o real_o believe_v himself_o because_o in_o his_o appendix_n pag._n 35._o he_o most_o high_o commend_v and_o approve_v mr._n marshal_n late_a book_n and_o in_o the_o seven_o page_n of_o his_o letter_n he_o say_v expesly_a that_o mr._n walter_n marshal_n in_o his_o excellent_a book_n late_o publish_v have_v large_o open_v this_o matter_n and_o the_o true_a controverfie_v of_o this_o day_n now_o it_o be_v true_a mr._n marshal_n if_o you_o do_v not_o believe_v it_o why_o do_v you_o commend_v his_o book_n to_o i_o as_o that_o which_o will_v give_v i_o best_a direction_n in_o this_o matter_n and_o preserve_v my_o soul_n from_o be_v so_o far_o from_o it_o that_o it_o bespeak_v the_o quite_o contrary_a it_o bespeak_v they_o deep_o harden_v in_o unbelief_n and_o high_o lift_v up_o in_o pride_n and_o self_n conceit_n our_o author_n have_v another_o argument_n to_o prove_v it_o to_o be_v a_o good_a doubt_n because_o say_v he_o any_o body_n may_v see_v his_o own_o impotency_n to_o obey_v the_o law_n of_o god_n full_o but_o few_o find_v the_o difficulty_n of_o believe_v well_o be_v it_o so_o that_o few_o find_v the_o difficulty_n of_o believe_v and_o that_o few_o doubt_n whether_o it_o be_v difficult_a or_o not_o do_v that_o prove_v that_o this_o particular_a unbeliever_n doubt_n because_o he_o find_v believe_v to_o be_v so_o difficult_a that_o he_o be_v past_o all_o doubt_n of_o its_o be_v difficult_a and_o thereupon_o positive_o affirm_v that_o it_o be_v difficult_a and_o hard_a to_o believe_v he_o must_v have_v lose_v his_o reason_n that_o can_v deliberate_o think_v that_o a_o man_n who_o be_v full_o convince_v of_o the_o difficulty_n of_o believe_v and_o thereupon_o affirm_v that_o it_o be_v hard_o to_o believe_v have_v a_o good_a doubt_n whether_o it_o be_v difficult_a or_o not_o because_o the_o generality_n of_o other_o man_n seldom_o think_v of_o believe_v or_o endeavour_v to_o believe_v and_o so_o find_v not_o the_o difficulty_n of_o it_o but_o 2._o suppose_v this_o particular_a unbeliever_n do_v not_o find_v it_o so_o difficult_a to_o believe_v as_o to_o be_v past_o all_o doubt_n that_o it_o be_v difficult_a only_o his_o mind_n be_v bring_v to_o a_o aequilibrium_fw-la even_o balance_n and_o hang_v in_o suspense_n between_o these_o two_o whether_o it_o be_v difficult_a or_o whether_o it_o be_v easse_v to_o believe_v this_o supposition_n be_v true_a will_v prove_v indeed_o that_o the_o man_n have_v a_o doubt_n in_o his_o mind_n concern_v the_o difficulty_n of_o believe_v but_o it_o do_v not_o at_o all_o prove_v that_o it_o be_v a_o good_a doubt_n the_o truth_n be_v such_o a_o doubt_n be_v evil_a and_o can_v be_v good_a for_o the_o man_n ought_v to_o be_v full_o persuade_v in_o his_o mind_n that_o to_o believe_v in_o christ_n crucify_v with_o a_o save_a faith_n it_o be_v real_o difficult_a and_o hard_a yea_o impossible_a to_o unregenerate_a nature_n and_o without_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n but_o that_o to_o regenerate_v nature_n it_o be_v easy_a through_o the_o affistance_n of_o god_n special_a grace_n and_o so_o here_o can_v be_v no_o room_n at_o all_o for_o the_o unbeliever_n good_a doubt_n next_o our_o author_n fall_v upon_o the_o resolve_v of_o the_o unbeliever_n pretend_v good_a doubt_n and_o in_o order_n thereunto_o he_o ask_v he_o what_o it_o be_v which_o he_o find_v do_v make_v believe_v difficult_a to_o he_o 1._o our_o author_n ask_v self-denial_n and_o deep_a humiliation_n and_o that_o that_o very_a unwillingness_n make_v it_o very_o difficult_a for_o i_o to_o believe_v in_o a_o crucify_a christ_n you_o can_v be_v sure_o but_o i_o may_v be_v such_o a_o unbeliever_n as_o will_v not_o deny_v what_o i_o real_o find_v to_o be_v the_o natural_a frame_n and_o temper_n of_o my_o heart_n and_o you_o who_o be_v a_o believer_n and_o a_o minister_n shall_v not_o teach_v i_o to_o deny_v it_o against_o my_o natural_a conscience_n nor_o blame_v i_o for_o confess_v it_o and_o when_o you_o have_v hear_v my_o ingenuous_a confession_n it_o because_o of_o you_o or_o because_o of_o my_o own_o natural_a conscience_n if_o you_o mean_v that_o i_o dare_v not_o own_v it_o because_o of_o you_o than_o it_o seem_v you_o threaten_v i_o that_o if_o i_o confess_v myself_o to_o you_o and_o tell_v you_o what_o distrust_n i_o find_v in_o my_o own_o heart_n you_o will_v persecute_v i_o or_o do_v i_o some_o mischief_n this_o better_a become_v a_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n record_n and_o i_o find_v that_o same_o distrust_n often_o within_o myself_o i_o can_v conceal_v it_o from_o god_n who_o make_v and_o govern_v the_o world_n and_o know_v all_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n as_o natural_a religion_n teach_v we_o and_o many_o of_o we_o believe_v this_o though_o we_o do_v not_o believe_v your_o supernatural_a positive_a religion_n and_o since_o i_o can_v conceal_v it_o from_o god_n why_o shall_v i_o be_v afraid_a to_o confess_v it_o to_o man_n especial_o to_o the_o minister_n of_o supernatural_a positive_a religion_n a_o part_n of_o who_o office_n it_o be_v to_o maintain_v the_o credibility_n and_o truth_n of_o the_o gofpel_n record_n against_o unbeliever_n and_o to_o do_v what_o they_o can_v by_o good_a and_o solid_a argument_n to_o prove_v the_o credibility_n and_o truth_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o thereby_o to_o convince_v and_o convert_v unbeliever_n to_o the_o faith_n of_o it_o and_o to_o faith_n in_o christ_n according_a to_o it_o sir_n if_o you_o believe_v that_o record_n yourself_o and_o can_v give_v a_o reason_n of_o the_o faith_n and_o hope_n that_o be_v in_o you_o as_o you_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v you_o shall_v not_o discourage_v unbeliever_n from_o confess_v the_o true_a ground_n of_o their_o not_o believe_v in_o christ_n but_o shall_v rather_o desire_v and_o entreat_v they_o to_o tell_v you_o faith_n in_o christ_n according_a to_o the_o gospel_n 4_o he_o ask_v the_o unbeliever_n whether_o he_o find_v it_o difficult_a to_o believe_v because_o he_o doubt_v of_o christ_n ability_n or_o
