desire_n you_o long_o to_o do_v and_o have_v if_o it_o be_v thus_o with_o you_o than_o first_o mend_v all_o these_o fault_n confess_v they_o to_o god_n and_o ask_v mercy_n next_o be_v thankful_a for_o your_o desire_n to_o pray_v reade_n hear_v etc._n etc._n and_o for_o your_o longing_n to_o do_v all_o these_o as_o you_o shall_v prosecute_v these_o desire_n but_o always_o in_o the_o sense_n of_o your_o own_o insufficiency_n and_o in_o the_o power_n of_o god_n might_n than_o all_o the_o forementioned_a duty_n shall_v be_v perform_v with_o less_o difficulty_n and_o with_o more_o fruit_n and_o comfort_n yet_o because_o in_o all_o these_o duty_n you_o travel_v to_o heaven-ward_n against_o the_o hill_n and_o your_o passage_n be_v against_o wind_n and_o tide_n and_o with_o a_o strong_a opposition_n of_o enemy_n in_o the_o way_n you_o must_v never_o look_v to_o perform_v they_o without_o sense_n of_o much_o difficulty_n and_o little_a progress_n in_o comparison_n of_o what_o you_o aim_v at_o in_o your_o desire_n it_o concern_v you_o therefore_o to_o ply_v your_o oar_n and_o to_o apply_v yourselves_o by_o all_o mean_n to_o 12_o work_v out_o your_o salvation_n with_o fear_n and_o tremble_a i_o mean_v with_o fear_n to_o offend_v in_o any_o the_o aforementioned_a duty_n not_o in_o fear_n that_o you_o have_v no_o grace_n because_o you_o can_v perform_v they_o as_o well_o as_o you_o shall_v and_o will_v for_o since_o that_o you_o feel_v and_o bewail_v your_o dulness_n deadness_n and_o unprofitablenesse_n in_o holy_a service_n it_o argue_v that_o you_o have_v life_n because_o no_o man_n feel_v corruption_n and_o dislike_v it_o by_o corruption_n but_o by_o grace_n i_o be_o sure_a that_o such_o as_o have_v no_o true_a grace_n can_v and_o do_v daily_a fail_v in_o all_o these_o duty_n but_o either_o they_o find_v not_o their_o fail_n or_o if_o they_o do_v yet_o they_o complain_v not_o of_o they_o with_o grief_n and_o dislike_n if_o you_o hearty_o grieve_v because_o you_o do_v 11._o no_o better_o your_o desire_n to_o do_v as_o you_o shall_v do_v be_v a_o true_a sign_n of_o grace_n in_o you_o for_o that_o duty_n be_v always_o well_o do_v in_o god_n account_n where_o there_o be_v truth_n of_o endeavour_n to_o do_v it_o well_o and_o true_a grief_n that_o it_o be_v do_v no_o better_o and_o whereas_o you_o say_v that_o by_o reason_n of_o want_n of_o spiritual_a life_n in_o holy_a duty_n you_o have_v be_v make_v to_o neglect_v they_o altogether_o i_o pray_v what_o have_v you_o get_v thereby_o but_o much_o grief_n use_v unrest_n but_o tell_v i_o how_o be_v â—â—_o with_o you_o be_v you_o please_v with_o yourself_o in_o your_o neglect_n or_o be_v it_o so_o that_o you_o can_v have_v no_o peace_n in_o your_o heart_n until_o you_o set_v yourselves_o diligent_o to_o do_v those_o duty_n again_o as_o well_o as_o you_o can_v if_o so_o it_o be_v a_o sign_n that_o you_o be_v not_o quite_o destitute_a of_o save_a grace_n other_o when_o they_o have_v be_v at_o holy_a exercise_n and_o in_o good_a company_n have_v feel_v joy_n remove_v and_o sweet_a comfort_n therein_o but_o afterward_o ofttimes_o much_o dulness_n have_v sudden_o seize_v upon_o they_o which_o make_v they_o fear_v they_o have_v not_o root_v in_o themselves_o and_o that_o their_o joy_n and_o comfort_n be_v not_o sound_a this_o dulness_n after_o fresh-feeling-comfort_n answ_n
which_o also_o do_v minister_n unto_o you_o matter_n of_o assure_a hope_n and_o remove_v comfort_n another_o will_v say_v i_o do_v even_o faint_a in_o my_o trouble_n and_o in_o my_o fear_n and_o i_o be_o ready_a to_o give_v over_o all_o what_o shall_v i_o do_v what_o will_v you_o have_v i_o to_o do_v your_o case_n be_v not_o singular_a many_o answ_n other_o have_v be_v and_o be_v in_o this_o case_n it_o be_v no_o otherwise_o with_o you_o than_o it_o be_v with_o the_o psalmist_n and_o jonah_n do_v as_o they_o in_o that_o their_o faint_a do_v first_o give_v not_o over_o but_o remember_v servant_n that_o walk_v in_o darkness_n and_o have_v no_o light_n let_v he_o trust_v in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n 24._o and_o stay_v upon_o his_o god_n mark_v it_o he_o that_o fear_v and_o obey_v yet_o may_v be_v in_o darkness_n and_o have_v no_o light_n what_o darkness_n be_v this_o but_o that_o speak_v of_o vers_n 4._o viz._n a_o afflict_a weary_a soul_n without_o light_n of_o prince_n and_o a_o saviour_n for_o to_o give_v this_o faith_n and_o repentance_n that_o their_o sin_n may_v be_v forgive_v and_o their_o soul_n save_v by_o he_o i_o pray_v consider_v well_o whether_o all_o these_o promise_n of_o this_o sort_n be_v not_o make_v absolute_o on_o god_n part_n and_o without_o any_o condition_n on_o man_n part_n wherefore_o whereas_o god_n have_v make_v many_o excellent_a promise_n of_o free_a and_o great_a reward_n as_o to_o hear_v the_o prayer_n and_o to_o fulfil_v the_o desire_n of_o they_o that_o fear_v he_o and_o to_o give_v life_n and_o glory_n to_o they_o that_o believe_v &_o obey_v he_o and_o that_o do_v hold_v fast_o the_o confidence_n and_o the_o rejoice_v to_o the_o end_n you_o see_v that_o here_o be_v promise_n of_o the_o first_o sort_n thereof_o such_o as_o hear_n of_o the_o word_n prayer_n etc._n etc._n god_n indeed_o command_v answ_n these_o mean_n to_o be_v use_v and_o if_o we_o perform_v they_o aright_o god_n will_v not_o fail_v to_o bless_v the_o good_a use_n of_o these_o mean_n but_o this_o well_o use_v they_o be_v not_o in_o our_o own_o power_n neither_o be_v it_o a_o condition_n for_o which_o god_n be_v necessary_o bind_v give_v these_o grace_n to_o all_o which_o in_o the_o use_n of_o they_o shall_v wait_v upon_o he_o for_o they_o for_o both_o the_o give_n of_o his_o word_n and_o the_o give_v we_o mind_n to_o hear_v the_o word_n and_o the_o open_n of_o the_o heart_n to_o attend_v and_o the_o convince_a and_o allure_a the_o heart_n to_o obey_v hang_v all_o upon_o those_o absolute_a promise_n 13_o they_o shall_v be_v all_o teach_v of_o god_n and_o the_o rest_n before_o mention_v wherefore_o let_v none_o of_o year_n caution_n think_v that_o without_o hear_v pray_v and_o the_o right_n use_v of_o god_n ordinance_n they_o shall_v ever_o have_v faith_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n wrought_v in_o they_o or_o shall_v ever_o come_v to_o heaven_n for_o we_o be_v command_v to_o pray_v hear_v etc._n etc._n and_o that_o in_o faith_n or_o else_o we_o can_v never_o 7._o look_v to_o receive_v any_o thing_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o do_v what_o lie_v in_o manspower_v in_o the_o right_n use_v the_o mean_n of_o salvation_n be_v of_o great_a consequence_n although_o it_o be_v not_o a_o sufficient_a cause_n to_o move_v god_n necessary_o to_o give_v grace_n for_o i_o be_o persuade_v that_o the_o best_a shall_v have_v more_o grace_n if_o they_o will_v do_v what_o in_o they_o lay_v continual_o to_o make_v good_a use_n of_o the_o outward_a mean_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o worst_a shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o less_o sin_n if_o they_o will_v do_v what_o in_o they_o lay_v to_o profit_v by_o the_o good_a use_n of_o the_o say_a mean_n and_o the_o neglect_n or_o abuse_v of_o the_o 43_o mean_n be_v sufficient_a cause_n why_o god_n shall_v not_o only_o withhold_v grace_n but_o condemn_v man_n for_o refuse_v it_o but_o some_o will_v yet_o say_v let_v all_o which_o have_v be_v say_v be_v grant_v remove_v i_o correspondency_n in_o join_v together_o against_o their_o fleshly_a lust_n which_o fight_v against_o the_o soul_n you_o be_v in_o good_a case_n i_o mean_v when_o the_o understanding_n conscience_n will_n and_o affection_n be_v all_o willing_a to_o do_v their_o part_n against_o sin_n their_o common_a enemy_n not_o but_o that_o you_o shall_v find_v a_o sensible_a war_a &_o opposition_n in_o all_o these_o while_o you_o live_v here_o even_o when_o you_o have_v most_o peace_n in_o this_o kind_n but_o how_o the_o unsanctified_a part_n of_o the_o understanding_n be_v against_o the_o sanctify_a part_n of_o the_o understanding_n and_o unsanctified_a will_n against_o the_o sanctify_a will_n and_o so_o in_o all_o other_o faculty_n of_o the_o soul_n flesh_n in_o every_o 17._o part_n lust_v against_o spirit_n in_o every_o part_n &_o spirit_n in_o every_o part_n lust_v against_o flesh_n in_o every_o part_n for_o as_o every_o sanctify_a part_n have_v the_o spirit_n so_o it_o have_v likewise_o the_o remain_v of_o the_o flesh_n fight_v one_o against_o the_o other_o now_o if_o that_o your_o faculty_n and_o power_n be_v rule_v all_o by_o one_o spirit_n you_o have_v a_o good_a
