man_n may_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n and_o sanctification_n and_o yet_o be_v in_o a_o estate_n of_o wrath_n and_o condemnation_n and_o that_o a_o man_n have_v and_o must_v have_v the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n before_o he_o believe_v it_o be_v evident_a because_o otherwise_o he_o can_v not_o believe_v to_o this_o i_o answer_v first_o by_o concession_n that_o a_o man_n be_v not_o able_a of_o himself_o and_o without_o the_o special_a presence_n and_o assistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n to_o raise_v a_o act_n of_o a_o true_a believe_a in_o his_o soul_n but_o second_o by_o way_n of_o exception_n i_o answer_v two_o thing_n first_o that_o though_o a_o man_n can_v believe_v without_o the_o gracious_a assistance_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n yet_o do_v it_o not_o follow_v from_o hence_o that_o there_o shall_v be_v the_o least_o imaginable_a distance_n or_o space_n of_o time_n between_o a_o man_n receive_v the_o spirit_n and_o his_o believe_a wherein_o he_o shall_v remain_v liable_a to_o condemnation_n because_o the_o first_o touch_n of_o the_o spirit_n upon_o the_o soul_n &_o the_o act_n of_o believe_a may_v be_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d and_o stick_v as_o fast_o and_o close_o together_o in_o respect_n of_o time_n as_o the_o scale_n of_o leviathan_n do_v in_o respect_n of_o place_n which_o by_o the_o description_n and_o testimony_n of_o god_n himself_o who_o best_o know_v their_o composure_n and_o frame_n be_v so_o near_o one_o to_o another_o that_o no_o air_n can_v come_v between_o joh._n 41.16_o the_o sun_n be_v not_o first_o make_v and_o afterward_o shine_v but_o his_o shine_v in_o respect_n of_o time_n be_v as_o ancient_a as_o his_o creation_n there_o be_v not_o the_o least_o distance_n or_o space_n of_o time_n between_o wherein_o any_o thing_n can_v be_v do_v or_o the_o least_o motion_n perform_v so_o may_v the_o come_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n unto_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o act_n of_o the_o soul_n believe_v touch_v in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o point_n of_o time_n a_o infinite_a power_n be_v able_a to_o work_v any_o thing_n in_o a_o moment_n in_o which_o case_n it_o be_v evident_a that_o there_o be_v no_o place_n for_o the_o inconvenience_n mention_v in_o the_o objection_n viz._n that_o a_o man_n endue_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n shall_v for_o a_o time_n be_v in_o a_o estate_n of_o condemnation_n except_o he_o be_v justify_v before_o he_o believe_v 2._o sect_n 24_o be_v it_o suppose_v that_o the_o spirit_n of_o grace_n shall_v be_v at_o work_n in_o the_o soul_n for_o any_o space_n of_o time_n before_o the_o soul_n have_v put_v forth_o a_o act_n of_o true_a believe_a yet_o till_o there_o be_v a_o save_a work_n of_o faith_n wrought_v by_o he_o in_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v no_o way_n inconvenient_a nor_o
