danger_n of_o sin_n be_v commit_v against_o a_o infinite_a justice_n the_o sovereign_a goodness_n and_o a_o most_o holy_a law_n may_v much_o help_v to_o move_v the_o heart_n after_o a_o sin_n to_o be_v aggreeved_a yet_o nothing_o so_o available_a to_o this_o purpose_n as_o the_o due_a and_o serious_a consideration_n of_o the_o 〈◊〉_d of_o christ_n life_n and_o the_o death_n and_o passion_n of_o our_o lord_n which_o be_v so_o infamous_a and_o sharp_a intolerable_o and_o the_o person_n so_o abase_v and_o plague_v be_v the_o eternal_a son_n of_o god_n and_o a_o man_n most_o innocent_a and_o we_o ourselves_o the_o proper_a and_o immediate_a cause_n of_o all_o arise_v his_o ignominy_n and_o pain_n suffer_v not_o for_o his_o own_o but_o for_o our_o sin_n this_o if_o any_o thing_n else_o in_o the_o world_n will_v and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o true_a grace_n in_o the_o heart_n it_o will_v make_v it_o even_o to_o bleed_v with_o grief_n that_o such_o a_o one_o shall_v suffer_v and_o such_o hard_a and_o heavy_a thing_n and_o for_o such_o be_v but_o wormes-meate_n ungodly_a and_o his_o enemy_n what_o heart_n will_v not_o be_v prick_v to_o think_v of_o it_o that_o the_o lord_n of_o life_n the_o immaculate_a lamb_n shall_v endure_v such_o fierce_a wrath_n from_o god_n and_o man_n for_o such_o vile_a one_o the_o very_a earth_n tremble_v at_o this_o and_o shall_v not_o our_o heart_n fear_n the_o sun_n be_v darken_v the_o heaven_n also_o put_v on_o mourn_a weed_n and_o shall_v not_o we_o be_v trouble_v the_o stone_n rend_v and_o shall_v not_o our_o heart_n be_v rend_v with_o sorrow_n and_o our_o eye_n gush_v out_o with_o tear_n upon_o the_o sight_n and_o remembrance_n of_o such_o our_o sin_n as_o we_o daily_o fall_v into_o and_o by_o which_o we_o occasion_v such_o a_o execrable_a death_n with_o torment_n to_o such_o a_o honourable_a person_n as_o it_o can_v be_v but_o ill_a with_o they_o who_o can_v think_v of_o this_o and_o not_o be_v displease_v with_o themselves_o and_o grieve_v at_o their_o sin_n which_o procure_v this_o so_o well_o be_v that_o man_n that_o upon_o the_o thought_n of_o his_o saviour_n sorrow_n for_o sin_n can_v have_v his_o own_o soul_n touch_v and_o ready_a to_o melt_v into_o sorrow_n for_o bless_a be_v they_o that_o mourn_v they_o shall_v be_v comfort_v matthew_n 5._o unto_o who_o do_v the_o high_a god_n look_v who_o dwell_v in_o the_o heaven_n but_o unto_o he_o which_o have_v a_o 〈◊〉_d heart_n isaiah_n 66._o this_o sorrow_n make_v the_o sinner_n to_o become_v joyful_a in_o 〈◊〉_d end_n yea_o it_o make_v angel_n glad_a it_o rejoice_v god_n 〈◊〉_d and_o be_v his_o delight_n who_o not_o so_o much_o detest_v 〈◊〉_d as_o he_o love_v this_o godly_a sorrow_n which_o 〈◊〉_d a_o sinner_n a-work_o the_o more_o to_o mistike_a and_o detest_v his_o own_o sin_n and_o to_o endeavour_v more_o and_o more_o the_o mortify_n and_o subdue_a of_o they_o and_o a_o departure_n from_o they_o in_o this_o affection_n of_o sorrow_n there_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o person_n which_o do_v somewhat_o offend_v in_o diverse_a sort_n the_o one_o think_v they_o never_o grieve_v enough_o for_o their_o sin_n and_o whereas_o they_o mourn_v much_o and_o true_o yet_o they_o satisfy_v not_o themselves_o because_o they_o will_v have_v and_o feel_v more_o and_o the_o other_o who_o doubt_n and_o mistrust_v themselves_o that_o they_o do_v not_o grieve_v at_o all_o and_o so_o be_v out_o of_o heart_n because_o they_o have_v no_o hearty_a grief_n for_o their_o offence_n complain_v of_o the_o hardness_n of_o their_o heart_n this_o way_n let_v the_o former_a consider_v that_o god_n respect_v not_o the_o measure_n
as_o either_o when_o we_o quit_v and_o clear_v ourselves_o from_o suspicion_n of_o a_o sin_n by_o shun_v the_o very_a appearance_n of_o evil_a all_o that_o have_v any_o nearness_n with_o it_o or_o look_v but_o towards_o it_o or_o when_o we_o rebuke_v and_o punish_v such_o as_o we_o have_v think_v to_o bear_v withal_o in_o their_o sin_n or_o have_v in_o truth_n bear_v withal_o after_o which_o sort_n it_o be_v likely_a the_o corinthian_n upon_o paul_n sharp_a reprehension_n do_v clear_v themselves_o in_o the_o case_n of_o the_o incestuous_a man_n who_o they_o have_v wink_v at_o or_o final_o by_o a_o humble_a &_o true_a confess_v of_o our_o fault_n to_o god_n and_o to_o man_n if_o it_o be_v open_a and_o public_a with_o hearty_a crave_v of_o pardon_n as_o in_o the_o publican_n zacheus_n david_n we_o have_v example_n of_o this_o clear_n and_o well_o also_o may_v the_o godly_a corinthian_n clear_v themselves_o to_o paul_n that_o they_o be_v displease_v with_o their_o sin_n in_o bear_v with_o such_o a_o offendor_n not_o only_o by_o their_o diligence_n in_o censure_v he_o but_o by_o their_o unfeigned_a confess_v of_o the_o offence_n both_o to_o god_n and_o to_o the_o apostle_n who_o they_o hadagreeve_v the_o three_o fruit_n it_o be_v indignation_n which_o be_v a_o holy_a anger_n anger_n stir_v up_o in_o our_o heart_n not_o only_o against_o other_o man_n fault_n with_o a_o pity_n towards_o their_o person_n but_o especial_o against_o some_o sin_n which_o have_v escape_v ourselves_o that_o we-were_a so_o beastly_a and_o foolish_a as_o to_o do_v such_o evil_n that_o we_o may_v have_v avoid_v and_o when_o we_o be_v move_v to_o anger_v more_o against_o our_o own_o then_o other_o man_n this_o be_v a_o very_a good_a token_n of_o a_o repentant_a heart_n the_o four_o fruit_n be_v fear_n not_o servile_a but_o filial_a and_o fear_v childlike_a arise_v from_o the_o feel_n of_o god_n mercy_n and_o our_o own_o 〈◊〉_d from_o whence_o come_v a_o holy_a awe_n and_o fear_n lest_o the_o evil_n which_o tofore_o we_o have_v offend_v by_o or_o such_o like_a through_o our_o corruption_n break_v forth_o again_o the_o five_o be_v desire_n as_o impenitent_a person_n have_v their_o desire_n desire_n to_o eat_v to_o drink_v to_o sleep_v to_o take_v their_o ease_n and_o pastime_n to_o fare_v delicious_o to_o go_v gallant_o and_o brave_o in_o apparel_n to_o grow_v rich_a to_o be_v aloft_o to_o be_v well_o think_v of_o and_o speak_v of_o although_o they_o deserve_v it_o not_o and_o be_v stuff_v with_o many_o other_o such_o carnal_a and_o worldly_a desire_n as_o token_n of_o their_o natural_a impenitent_a heart_n so_o the_o godly_a desire_n to_o live_v honest_o to_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n to_o dwell_v in_o the_o house_n of_o god_n for_o ever_o to_o enjoy_v the_o sincere_a milk_n of_o the_o word_n to_o be_v unburthen_v of_o sin_n to_o mortify_v their_o lust_n be_v dissolve_v and_o to_o be_v with_o christ_n and_o final_o not_o to_o offend_v again_o in_o these_o particular_n wherein_o they_o have_v offend_v god_n or_o his_o people_n be_v the_o testimony_n of_o a_o true_o repentant_a heart_n the_o six_o fruit_n be_v zeal_n which_o be_v a_o great_a grief_n conceive_v zeal_n for_o the_o hurt_n of_o god_n glory_n by_o sin_n and_o a_o ardent_a love_n to_o all_o such_o thing_n as_o god_n may_v be_v honour_v by_o and_o to_o hinder_v in_o ourselves_o and_o other_o whatsoever_o may_v dishonour_v or_o displease_v he_o revel_v 3._o repent_v and_o be_v zealous_a therefore_o as_o cold_a and_o lukewarm_a christian_n be_v utter_o without_o all_o grace_n of_o requite_v of_o revenge_n evil_a for_o evil_n towards_o other_o a_o fruit_n of_o the_o flesh_n but_o a_o voluntary_a punishment_n which_o a_o sinner_n take_v upon_o himself_o for_o the_o evil_n do_v against_o his_o god_n &_o his_o soul_n or_o his_o brethren_n in_o labour_v more_o to_o bridle_v his_o unruly_a heart_n from_o unlawful_a desire_n and_o moderate_v it_o in_o those_o which_o be_v lawful_a for_o bear_v not_o sinful_a delight_n or_o profit_n alone_o but_o even_o such_o thing_n as_o be_v within_o our_o liberty_n if_o the_o use_n of_o they_o will_v be_v a_o occasion_n of_o fin_n either_o to_o ourselves_o or_o other_o this_o curb_v of_o ourselves_o and_o coop_v up_o our_o affection_n mortify_v the_o flesh_n deny_v ourselves_o be_v that_o revenge_n here_o mean_v also_o enforce_v one_o self_n to_o do_v the_o thing_n quite_o contrary_a to_o our_o sin_n as_o the_o drunkard_n to_o repent_v and_o punish_v himself_o with_o abstinence_n also_o the_o glutton_n and_o riotous_a with_o fast_v the_o great_a talker_n by_o keep_v silence_n the_o adulterer_n by_o forbear_v all_o thing_n may_v provoke_v lust_n let_v i_o not_o conceal_v from_o you_o that_o i_o judge_v this_o revenge_n if_o it_o be_v refer_v to_o the_o corinthian_n to_o be_v their_o exercise_v of_o that_o ecclesiastical_a authority_n which_o god_n have_v give_v his_o church_n against_o sin_n with_o more_o severity_n than_o wont_a that_o as_o they_o have_v offend_v by_o remissness_n so_o they_o will_v henceforth_o take_v due_a revenge_n upon_o open_a sinner_n according_a to_o the_o power_n give_v they_o of_o god_n and_o this_o be_v very_o like_a for_o it_o be_v a_o godly_a revenge_n to_o set_v on_o work_v all_o power_n which_o god_n give_v unto_o any_o for_o stop_v of_o the_o course_n and_o current_n of_o sin_n let_v papist_n who_o take_v such_o unlawful_a yet_o painful_a revenge_n of_o themselves_o by_o whip_v etc._n etc._n admonish_v true_a christian_n to_o take_v all_o lawful_a revenge_n aquila_n now_o sir_n i_o will_v propound_v some_o doubt_n unto_o you_o touch_v repentance_n if_o first_o you_o will_v call_v to_o mind_v those_o caution_n which_o you_o deliver_v touch_v the_o same_o in_o your_o public_a teach_n apollo_n herein_o i_o will_v answer_v your_o desire_n but_o let_v repentance_n '_o i_o tell_v you_o by_o the_o way_n what_o be_v say_v of_o the_o mean_n to_o quicken_v and_o stir_v up_o this_o daily_a repentance_n namely_o diligent_a read_n of_o scripture_n and_o other_o godly_a book_n the_o humble_a submission_n of_o our_o mind_n to_o all_o godly_a admonition_n of_o the_o saint_n blessing_n god_n in_o our_o soul_n after_o the_o example_n of_o david_n for_o such_o rebuke_n as_o be_v private_o and_o friendly_o reach_v out_o yea_o thank_v god_n for_o the_o reproach_n of_o enemy_n by_o who_o sometime_o one_o shall_v hear_v his_o sin_n tell_v he_o soon_o than_o by_o a_o friend_n though_o not_o in_o a_o good_a manner_n nor_o for_o any_o good_a end_n on_o their_o part_n yet_o consider_v god_n set_v they_o on_o work_n as_o david_n the_o prophet_n say_v god_n have_v bid_v he_o rebuke_v i_o therefore_o endeavour_v ourselves_o to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o give_v good_a heed_n both_o to_o the_o check_n of_o our_o conscience_n which_o often_o prove_v a_o faithful_a monitor_n and_o to_o the_o stroke_n of_o god_n hand_n sensible_a and_o insensible_a in_o soul_n and_o body_n seek_v to_o profit_v by_o they_o to_o amendment_n that_o we_o fear_v he_o the_o more_o yea_o even_o in_o the_o day_n of_o our_o prosperity_n and_o peace_n make_v this_o good_a use_n to_o be_v invite_v by_o they_o to_o speedy_a and_o true_a repentance_n and_o so_o we_o shall_v prevent_v god_n chastisement_n if_o we_o voluntary_o fall_v to_o judge_v of_o ourselves_o yet_o of_o all_o other_o good_a mean_n to_o awaken_v we_o and_o bring_v we_o unto_o the_o practice_n of_o repentance_n this_o be_v not_o the_o least_o even_o our_o daily_a examination_n of_o our_o own_o heart_n and_o way_n to_o consider_v particular_o what_o escape_n have_v be_v in_o thought_n word_n and_o deed_n in_o omission_n or_o commission_n with_o the_o circumstance_n of_o our_o action_n for_o manner_n of_o do_v and_o for_o the_o end_n of_o our_o work_n and_o the_o person_n and_o such_o like_a thing_n that_o so_o we_o may_v come_v to_o see_v both_o what_o be_v to_o be_v sorrow_v for_o present_o and_o upon_o faithful_a and_o humble_a confession_n we_o may_v make_v all_o even_o with_o god_n through_o christ_n for_o that_o which_o be_v past_a and_o also_o what_o cause_n there_o be_v to_o watch_v over_o ourselves_o for_o time_n
though_o he_o can_v absolute_o keep_v the_o law_n to_o fulfil_v it_o in_o the_o strictness_n thereof_o by_o do_v all_o that_o good_a that_o be_v command_v there_o and_o that_o unto_o the_o end_n and_o in_o all_o perfection_n of_o love_n nay_o there_o be_v sundry_a good_a duty_n and_o work_n which_o our_o regenerate_a man_n through_o ignorance_n can_v so_o much_o as_o attain_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o so_o large_a and_o broad_a be_v the_o commandment_n and_o so_o narrow_a and_o dull_a be_v our_o capacity_n yet_o as_o he_o be_v sanctify_v throughout_o have_v all_o his_o power_n of_o spirit_n soul_n and_o body_n well_o and_o apt_o dispose_v by_o grace_n to_o do_v good_a so_o he_o endeavour_v to_o know_v better_o every_o day_n what_o his_o work_n be_v which_o be_v prescribe_v he_o to_o do_v and_o also_o to_o perform_v it_o in_o every_o part_n so_o far_o as_o it_o be_v know_v with_o such_o perfection_n as_o he_o can_v do_v his_o work_n in_o truth_n and_o uprightness_n though_o with_o want_n and_o weakness_n so_o as_o he_o balk_v no_o duty_n he_o will_v not_o play_v the_o pope_n to_o give_v himself_o dispensation_n for_o any_o good_a work_n which_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o do_v do_v it_o never_o so_o much_o go_v against_o his_o stomach_n and_o contrary_a his_o corrupt_a judgement_n and_o affection_n his_o profit_n or_o delight_n yet_o his_o heart_n stand_v with_o the_o law_n commandment_n of_o god_n without_o reproof_n as_o zachariah_n and_o elizabeth_n luke_n 1._o 5_o 6_o 7._o to_o have_v please_v god_n in_o all_o thing_n as_o the_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 1._o 9_o to_o have_v walk_v perfect_o as_o ezekiah_n because_o howsoever_o they_o can_v not_o 3._o for_o measure_n and_o manner_n do_v all_o in_o a_o absolute_a fullness_n hypocrisy_n so_o as_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o fault_n yet_o for_o desire_n care_n and_o endeavour_v they_o strive_v to_o do_v all_o which_o they_o can_v part_n know_v and_o their_o heart_n be_v upright_o in_o one_o duty_n as_o well_o as_o in_o like_n and_o fancy_n or_o pinch_v he_o in_o his_o gain_n or_o some_o other_o thing_n which_o be_v dear_a to_o he_o herod_n will_v do_v many_o thing_n at_o johns_n 20._o preach_v and_o jehu_n be_v zealous_a in_o many_o thing_n for_o the_o 31._o lord_n simon_n magus_n will_v conform_v himself_o to_o the_o word_n 13._o in_o sundry_a duty_n but_o their_o practice_n hate_v it_o be_v a_o maim_a practice_n there_o be_v some_o good_a work_n which_o they_o will_v not_o be_v bring_v to_o do_v as_o there_o be_v some_o sinful_a affection_n which_o they_o can_v not_o be_v make_v to_o put_v off_o do_v simile_n the_o body_n and_o flow_v from_o it_o as_o a_o river_n from_o the_o fountain_n or_o as_o fruit_n spring_v from_o the_o tree_n repentance_n lie_v hide_v in_o the_o heart_n as_o the_o juice_n or_o sap_n in_o the_o root_n of_o the_o tree_n utter_v itself_o by_o good_a work_n as_o by_o meet_v and_o convenient_a fruit_n this_o be_v it_o which_o we_o may_v mark_v in_o the_o scripture_n
