christian_a that_o be_v in_o christ_n that_o can_v possible_o be_v clean_a without_o they_o only_o the_o difference_n be_v some_o have_v more_o some_o less_o but_o let_v we_o all_o well_o weigh_v they_o and_o they_o will_v appear_v all_o but_o conceit_n and_o to_o have_v no_o reality_n and_o truth_n in_o they_o 1._o now_o the_o first_o of_o these_o be_v that_o it_o be_v presumption_n which_o be_v a_o conceit_n the_o papist_n take_v up_o and_o be_v in_o we_o all_o 1._o so_o far_o as_o we_o be_v natural_o popish_a we_o think_v this_o faith_n be_v but_o a_o presumption_n yet_o this_o be_v but_o a_o mere_a conceit_n for_o if_o we_o have_v faith_n it_o assure_v we_o through_o christ_n that_o nothing_o can_v destroy_v we_o all_o presumption_n be_v either_o upon_o a_o man_n own_o merit_n or_o god_n mercy_n as_o divine_v acknowledge_v now_o that_o faith_n do_v neither_o of_o these_o it_o be_v plain_a for_o he_o first_o that_o know_v christ_n according_a to_o his_o word_n lay_v hold_v on_o christ_n merit_n and_o god_n mercy_n in_o he_o and_o so_o apply_v and_o rest_v thereupon_o before_o god_n labour_v to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n and_o so_o be_v assure_v of_o god_n love_n and_o this_o be_v no_o presum_fw-la tion_n for_o he_o rely_v not_o upon_o his_o own_o merit_n but_o christ_n 2._o this_o faith_n build_v not_o on_o god_n mercy_n at_o large_a but_o 2._o on_o his_o mercy_n in_o christ_n he_o believe_v on_o he_o that_o have_v satisfy_v god_n justice_n and_o therefore_o know_v that_o god_n can_v but_o must_v needs_o show_v mercy_n if_o this_o be_v presumption_n who_o will_v seek_v after_o it_o to_o lose_v his_o labour_n but_o this_o the_o lord_n command_v and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o presumption_n but_o obedience_n and_o duty_n to_o do_v it_o nay_o if_o thou_o shall_v 14._o not_o seek_v after_o this_o faith_n and_o assurance_n it_o be_v a_o neglect_n 23._o and_o contempt_n of_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n a_o second_o impediment_n that_o keep_v man_n from_o seek_v this_o faith_n be_v a_o conceit_n that_o it_o be_v impossible_a ever_o to_o get_v it_o and_o this_o stick_v too_o much_o in_o our_o unbelieve_a heart_n and_o be_v strong_o root_v in_o our_o ignorant_a protestant_n that_o give_v themselves_o to_o other_o book_n but_o not_o to_o the_o careful_a and_o conscionable_a read_n of_o god_n book_n
and_o that_o a_o man_n do_v easy_o but_o to_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o be_v above_o nature_n and_o then_o there_o must_v be_v much_o intention_n a_o man_n must_v have_v something_o in_o he_o to_o move_v he_o to_o mind_n it_o most_o and_o above_o all_o other_o thing_n when_o a_o boat_n go_v against_o the_o stream_n and_o against_o the_o wind_n you_o know_v there_o must_v be_v much_o labour_n simile_n to_o drive_v it_o on_o so_o to_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v above_o the_o the_o stream_n of_o nature_n there_o must_v be_v anintention_n from_o above_o you_o must_v beseech_v god_n to_o keep_v it_o in_o the_o intention_n of_o your_o heart_n now_o again_o to_o these_o two_o when_o a_o man_n have_v give_v faith_n up_o himself_o to_o christ_n and_o when_o he_o do_v mind_n it_o and_o intend_v it_o and_o pray_v for_o it_o you_o must_v add_v to_o this_o faith_n without_o which_o no_o man_n can_v do_v it_o for_o this_o objection_n present_o come_v what_o must_v i_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o not_o my_o own_o what_o will_v then_o become_v of_o i_o how_o shall_v i_o provide_v for_o myself_o or_o for_o my_o family_n and_o those_o that_o depend_v upon_o i_o now_o there_o must_v be_v faith_n to_o give_v this_o answer_n the_o lord_n will_v promise_n provide_v for_o thou_o for_o till_o a_o man_n think_v that_o there_o be_v another_o that_o have_v will_n and_o power_n to_o take_v care_n for_o he_o and_o to_o provide_v for_o he_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o he_o shall_v seek_v the_o the_o thing_n of_o that_o other_o but_o believe_v this_o once_o that_o god_n will_v take_v care_n for_o thou_o and_o then_o thou_o will_v be_v content_a to_o deny_v thyself_o as_o if_o a_o master_n shall_v say_v to_o his_o servant_n be_v you_o diligent_a in_o my_o service_n i_o will_v take_v care_n for_o your_o meat_n and_o drink_n and_o clothing_n and_o when_o your_o apprenticeship_n be_v out_o i_o will_v give_v shall_v want_v nothing_o in_o this_o present_a life_n you_o shall_v have_v all_o thing_n necessary_a and_o when_o your_o appentiship_n be_v at_o a_o end_n i_o will_v provide_v a_o inheritance_n for_o you_o if_o you_o will_v believe_v these_o thing_n and_o these_o promise_n you_o will_v then_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o not_o your_o own_o thing_n you_o have_v a_o promise_n have_v both_o faith_n in_o the_o promise_n but_o because_o they_o have_v not_o a_o faith_n in_o the_o particular_a providence_n of_o god_n about_o the_o bestow_n of_o the_o blessing_n therefore_o we_o know_v how_o they_o miss_v so_o moses_n have_v faith_n in_o the_o promise_n that_o god_n will_v provide_v meat_n for_o a_o month_n time_n but_o he_o know_v not_o how_o therefore_o you_o see_v how_o many_o objection_n he_o bring_v shall_v all_o the_o fish_n of_o the_o sea_n be_v bring_v together_o and_o all_o the_o beast_n of_o the_o field_n etc._n etc._n therefore_o i_o say_v put_v these_o together_o when_o a_o man_n have_v faith_n in_o both_o that_o be_v in_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n and_o in_o the_o particular_a providence_n of_o god_n that_o enable_v a_o man_n not_o to_o seek_v any_o business_n of_o christ_n in_o which_o there_o be_v any_o difficulty_n or_o any_o hardness_n or_o any_o likelihood_n of_o lose_v any_o thing_n except_o thou_o believe_v the_o particular_a do_v the_o work_n i_o will_v do_v the_o business_n of_o christ_n i_o will_v employ_v myself_o in_o his_o service_n this_o make_v a_o man_n bold_a in_o the_o most_o difficult_a case_n so_o david_n i_o own_o thing_n if_o you_o will_v bring_v your_o heart_n not_o to_o seek_v your_o own_o thing_n but_o the_o thing_n of_o christ_n get_v love_n that_o be_v you_o must_v know_v that_o self-love_n seek_v all_o that_o they_o may_v do_v good_a to_o the_o child_n for_o that_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o love_n and_o therefore_o when_o we_o do_v not_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o christ_n it_o be_v a_o what_o abundance_n of_o peace_n and_o wealth_n be_v for_o even_o these_o thing_n we_o most_o esteem_v but_o this_o be_v not_o the_o thing_n for_o here_o we_o need_v no_o exhortation_n second_o spiritual_a mercy_n those_o be_v they_o we_o do_v not_o hunger_n after_o we_o be_v backward_o enough_o to_o desire_v they_o and_o therefore_o we_o have_v so_o few_o of_o they_o therefore_o that_o which_o i_o must_v press_v upon_o you_o be_v to_o desire_v earnest_o these_o spiritual_a mercy_n if_o you_o desire_v they_o much_o you_o shall_v have_v much_o of_o they_o for_o you_o must_v know_v before_o you_o have_v they_o god_n will_v teach_v you_o to_o know_v how_o precious_a they_o be_v for_o if_o he_o have_v command_v we_o not_o to_o cast_v pearl_n before_o swine_n he_o himself_o will_v not_o cast_v the_o riches_n of_o his_o mercy_n before_o those_o that_o prize_n and_o regard_v they_o not_o as_o for_o instance_n forgiveness_n of_o sin_n and_o reconciliation_n with_o god_n this_o be_v a_o spiritual_a mercy_n this_o if_o you_o will_v hunger_n much_o after_o you_o shall_v have_v it_o yea_o and_o according_a to_o the_o measure_n of_o your_o desire_n but_o when_o you_o prize_v it_o not_o that_o be_v it_o which_o keep_v it_o back_o you_o may_v say_v the_o like_a of_o all_o other_o mercy_n therefore_o prize_v they_o much_o that_o be_v be_v sensible_a of_o your_o misery_n contend_v with_o god_n for_o it_o as_o a_o matter_n of_o such_o great_a moment_n whereas_o it_o be_v the_o pretious_a mercy_n of_o all_o other_o it_o be_v the_o immediate_a door_n that_o open_v into_o the_o favour_n of_o god_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o other_o mercy_n and_o then_o no_o good_a thing_n can_v be_v withhold_v from_o you_o foâ—_n it_o be_v your_o sin_n that_o keep_v good_a thing_n from_o you_o now_o if_o your_o sin_n be_v take_v away_o what_o need_v you_o fear_v either_o disease_n or_o death_n or_o revile_n and_o disgrace_n for_o your_o profession_n or_o imprisonment_n or_o poverty_n if_o you_o have_v the_o forgiveness_n of_o your_o sin_n you_o may_v enjoy_v the_o prosperity_n you_o have_v free_o and_o as_o for_o cross_n either_o you_o shall_v be_v free_v from_o they_o or_o else_o they_o shall_v be_v as_o serpent_n without_o a_o sting_n or_o as_o great_a bulk_n without_o burden_n and_o weight_n this_o you_o shall_v have_v if_o you_o have_v the_o forgiveness_n of_o your_o sin_n consider_v all_o this_o labour_v to_o sâ—t_v a_o price_n upon_o it_o and_o so_o for_o â—ll_o other_o mercy_n work_v your_o heart_n to_o this_o to_o esteem_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n again_o labour_v to_o see_v a_o excellency_n in_o they_o the_o same_o as_o i_o say_v of_o forgiveness_n the_o same_o may_v you_o say_v of_o love_n or_o of_o patience_n see_v the_o preciousness_n and_o excellency_n of_o they_o the_o more_o you_o prize_v they_o the_o more_o you_o shâ—l_v have_v of_o they_o if_o you_o can_v beg_v for_o forgiveness_n as_o for_o life_n if_o you_o can_v reckon_v other_o thing_n but_o as_o dross_n and_o dung_n in_o comparison_n of_o that_o as_o saint_n paul_n do_v which_o be_v nothing_o but_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o his_o sin_n you_o will_v be_v sure_a to_o have_v these_o mâ—râ—iâ—s_n but_o man_n do_v it_o not_o man_n live_v in_o prosperity_n in_o health_n and_o wealth_n and_o abundance_n of_o all_o thing_n and_o such_o mercy_n as_o these_o they_o regard_v not_o forgiveness_n of_o sin_n reconciliation_n the_o gospel_n of_o christ_n this_o they_o despise_v but_o we_o shall_v prize_v these_o even_o then_o when_o they_o be_v naked_o propound_v to_o we_o endeavour_n and_o these_o will_v take_v spiritual_a mercy_n by_o force_n as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n that_o it_o suffer_v violence_n even_o so_o these_o violent_a desire_n will_v extort_v it_o from_o god_n by_o a_o holy_a earnestness_n a_o second_o way_n to_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o riches_n of_o god_n mercy_n mercy_n be_v to_o believe_v they_o add_v to_o your_o desire_n a_o belief_n for_o believe_v be_v that_o which_o open_v the_o hand_n of_o god_n to_o give_v and_o open_v your_o heart_n &_o your_o hand_n to_o receive_v put_v but_o these_o two_o riches_n of_o mercy_n that_o be_v in_o god_n because_o you_o may_v object_v be_v god_n so_o merciful_a what_o be_v the_o reason_n then_o that_o he_o do_v so_o sharp_o afflict_v even_o his_o dear_a child_n why_o do_v he_o afflict_v evil_a man_n with_o such_o a_o great_a affliction_n as_o hell_n iâ—_n self_n why_o be_v so_o many_o damn_a and_o why_o do_v so_o many_o perish_v while_o it_o be_v in_o his_o power_n to_o save_v they_o last_o be_v he_o not_o a_o hard_a master_n to_o condemn_v many_o that_o can_v not_o be_v save_v as_o the_o gentile_n that_o come_v not_o to_o the_o knowledge_n make_v the_o difference_n between_o the_o christian_a and_o christian_n namely_o faith_n and_o hence_o it_o be_v that_o some_o be_v weak_a and_o other_o be_v strong_a hence_o it_o be_v that_o some_o be_v more_o able_a than_o other_o for_o the_o great_a duty_n of_o religion_n as_o for_o example_n caleb_n and_o joshua_n can_v do_v more_o than_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o people_n and_o what_o be_v christ._n adam_n have_v grace_v original_o inherent_a in_o he_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o we_o there_o be_v not_o that_o inherency_n though_o there_o be_v that_o also_o yet_o it_o differ_v
