come_v of_o nothing_o but_o from_o a_o desire_n to_o have_v or_o do_v nothing_o and_o when_o the_o cause_n which_o be_v the_o desire_n to_o wish_v for_o be_v take_v away_o and_o root_v out_o than_o his_o force_n and_o effect_n do_v cease_v quick_o which_o be_v to_o ask_v for_o and_o hereby_o be_v make_v that_o which_o be_v contrary_a to_o it_o namely_o to_o ask_v nothing_o which_o be_v my_o second_o intent_n wherewithal_o i_o maintain_v dame_n povertie_n but_o thou_o must_v mark_v that_o this_o desire_n be_v understand_v only_o of_o worldly_a and_o earthly_a matter_n but_o because_o this_o herb_n have_v a_o other_o root_n where_o out_o it_o grow_v which_o be_v to_o remember_v for_o nothing_o there_o can_v be_v wish_v for_o which_o be_v not_o before_o remember_v therefore_o make_v much_o of_o this_o three_o intent_n which_o be_v to_o remember_v nothing_o wherewithal_o i_o maintain_v the_o three_o damsel_n call_v chastity_n but_o thou_o must_v understande_v this_o remember_v when_o it_o be_v substantial_a steadfast_a wilful_a and_o spring_v out_o of_o a_o fleshly_a lust_n for_o it_o be_v not_o in_o man_n power_n not_o to_o remember_v nothing_o but_o well_o not_o to_o suffer_v thought_n to_o remain_v and_o cast_v foundation_n in_o he_o but_o to_o turn_v they_o quick_o of_o and_o to_o think_v of_o god_n but_o because_o that_o this_o herb_n remember_v do_v water_n itself_o with_o a_o water_n call_v to_o see_v we_o must_v cast_v upon_o it_o a_o powder_n call_v diligent_o to_o have_v care_n to_o the_o eye_n which_o be_v very_o profitable_a so_o it_o these_o three_o intent_n do_v not_o only_o cleanse_v my_o soul_n of_o all_o worldly_a thing_n as_o selfe-wil_a &_o such_o like_a spot_n but_o they_o breed_v in_o i_o a_o great_a pureness_n &_o promptitude_n to_o love_v my_o lord_n draw_v from_o i_o all_o other_o love_n and_o unite_n i_o altogether_o with_o he_o in_o these_o three_o intent_n i_o have_v comprehend_v all_o the_o other_o godly_a exercise_n serve_v the_o spirit_n as_o well_o of_o humility_n as_o of_o any_o other_o virtue_n because_o i_o know_v that_o the_o perfection_n of_o virtue_n consist_v herein_o think_v not_o therefore_o that_o in_o vame_n i_o serve_v these_o three_o lady_n for_o they_o be_v very_o gracious_a and_o get_v i_o much_o favour_n one_o of_o the_o three_o call_v poverty_n have_v give_v i_o a_o fair_a jewel_n i_o pray_v you_o quoth_v desire_n to_o let_v i_o see_v it_o i_o keep_v it_o answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n in_o two_o place_n namely_o in_o my_o heart_n and_o bedchamber_n this_o jewel_n be_v so_o costly_a and_o of_o such_o price_n and_o value_n that_o i_o be_v not_o able_a to_o keep_v it_o in_o my_o hart_n before_o i_o have_v cast_v out_o of_o it_o all_o earthly_a love_n and_o in_o like_a sort_n it_o can_v have_v no_o place_n in_o my_o bedchamber_n before_o i_o have_v cast_v and_o throw_v out_o of_o it_o all_o curious_a superfluous_a and_o partial_a thing_n reserve_v only_o to_o my_o use_n but_o a_o few_o book_n now_o do_v you_o call_v this_o jewel_n quoth_v desire_n it_o be_v call_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n nothing_o at_o all_o for_o this_o be_v the_o great_a treasure_n that_o poverty_n can_v possess_v who_o be_v the_o rich_a lady_n of_o all_o the_o earth_n because_o she_o have_v as_o much_o treasure_n hereof_o as_o she_o will_v herself_o the_o sixth_o chapter_n do_v prosecute_v the_o office_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o beside_o intreat_v of_o prayer_n in_o this_o degree_n of_o charity_n whereof_o i_o have_v speak_v which_o be_v for_o to_o obey_v his_o care_n to_o come_v before_o he_o with_o such_o great_a humility_n lowliness_n &_o pureness_n of_o mind_n as_o i_o be_o able_a and_o the_o pure_a and_o clean_a that_o my_o heart_n be_v the_o more_o casie_a i_o see_v behold_v and_o know_v he_o and_o pray_v my_o love_a brother_n the_o fear_n of_o god_n and_o my_o aunt_n reverence_n to_o keep_v i_o company_n what_o do_v you_o when_o lady_n reverence_n go_v with_o you_o say_v desire_v then_o i_o remember_v and_o think_v what_o i_o be_o answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o set_v before_o my_o eye_n the_o majesty_n and_o greatness_n of_o my_o lord_n who_o be_v to_o be_v serve_v with_o fear_n and_o reverence_n as_o one_o only_a worthy_a of_o it_o beside_o i_o remember_v that_o all_o angel_n and_o heavenly_a principality_n do_v fall_v so_o wicked_a vile_a unclean_a &_o worse_a than_o any_o dog_n presume_v to_o undertake_v such_o a_o high_a office_n &_o to_o be_v so_o familiar_a with_o such_o a_o mighty_a lord_n &_o that_o such_o a_o renown_a majesty_n will_v vouchsafe_v to_o delight_v in_o my_o vile_a company_n &_o suffer_v i_o to_o speak_v &_o eat_v with_o he_o as_o his_o familiar_a and_o only_a friend_n and_o oftentimes_o myself_o do_v tell_v he_o of_o it_o say_v wherefore_o do_v thou_o suffer_v o_o my_o god_n these_o vile_a &_o unclean_a sinner_n to_o stand_v before_o thou_o how_o my_o lord_n be_v it_o decent_a that_o thou_o shall_v be_v serve_v of_o such_o wretch_n &_o wicked_a offender_n as_o we_o be_v where_o be_v the_o honour_n and_o reverence_v due_a to_o thy_o princely_a majesty_n but_o what_o answer_n do_v mean_n of_o contempt_n to_o overcome_v the_o world_n and_o by_o chaste_v and_o fast_v to_o rule_v my_o one_o flesh_n and_o to_o vanquish_v satan_n by_o humility_n and_o make_v i_o sovereign_n of_o this_o house_n but_o chief_o of_o myself_o which_o be_v the_o most_o of_o all_o for_o when_o my_o flesh_n feel_v that_o i_o travel_n and_o endeavour_n to_o please_v the_o love_n of_o god_n than_o it_o do_v resist_v i_o with_o all_o his_o crew_n &_o be_v continual_o disquiet_v with_o my_o do_n but_o nevertheless_o my_o soul_n do_v then_o remain_v in_o peace_n contentment_n and_o quietness_n desire_n do_v marvel_v great_o at_o the_o word_n of_o lady_n humility_n and_o say_v i_o pray_v your_o ladyship_n that_o it_o may_v please_v you_o to_o instruct_v i_o by_o some_o similitude_n in_o these_o thing_n for_o i_o be_o somewhat_o dull_a of_o understanding_n so_o that_o i_o shall_v better_o conceive_v your_o meaning_n by_o a_o example_n or_o comparison_n this_o motion_n do_v great_o please_v humility_n and_o chief_o because_o she_o see_v how_o he_o do_v begin_v to_o wax_v humble_a in_o confess_v the_o dulness_n and_o grossness_n of_o his_o wit_n and_o understanding_n and_o say_v my_o child_n whensoever_o any_o of_o that_o foresay_a woman_n do_v enter_v in_o than_o i_o behave_v myself_o in_o this_o sort_n as_o for_o example_n when_o concupiscence_n of_o the_o flesh_n begin_v to_o siruit_n with_o i_o before_o she_o be_v able_a to_o come_v to_o i_o i_o know_v she_o and_o her_o condition_n very_o well_o for_o she_o be_v very_o gluttonous_a and_o gather_v force_n by_o eat_v and_o drink_v therefore_o i_o withdraw_v from_o she_o all_o dainty_a kind_n of_o meat_n and_o will_v not_o give_v she_o so_o much_o of_o ordinary_a diet_n as_o she_o do_v desire_n to_o have_v and_o because_o my_o force_n be_v not_o able_a to_o withstand_v or_o to_o vanquish_v she_o for_o my_o own_o household_n come_v to_o aid_v and_o to_o assist_v she_o i_o crave_v and_o call_v for_o help_v at_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n who_o stand_v always_o at_o my_o side_n to_o strengthen_v i_o against_o these_o wicked_a woman_n moreover_o i_o do_v esteem_v myself_o to_o be_v as_o a_o beast_n who_o do_v eat_v no_o more_o than_o his_o master_n do_v give_v and_o allow_v he_o but_o when_o his_o master_n see_v that_o he_o be_v greedy_a at_o his_o meat_n he_o do_v restrain_v his_o mouth_n with_o a_o muffle_v because_o he_o shall_v not_o eat_v but_o at_o such_o time_n and_o such_o as_o it_o do_v please_v he_o to_o give_v unto_o he_o wherefore_o the_o love_n of_o god_n my_o only_a master_n have_v put_v about_o my_o mouth_n a_o mussel_n call_v sobriety_n that_o i_o shall_v eat_v no_o more_o than_o will_v suffice_v nature_n &_o have_v tell_v i_o that_o i_o shall_v of_o that_o yet_o something_o not_o only_o assault_v i_o with_o my_o own_o flesh_n but_o by_o other_o do_v provoke_v and_o draw_v i_o to_o sensuality_n and_o uncleanness_n therefore_o i_o avoid_v she_o as_o much_o as_o i_o be_o able_a eschew_v all_o thing_n whereby_o she_o seek_v to_o entice_v i_o to_o her_o love_n and_o like_n esteem_v this_o to_o be_v the_o best_a and_o only_o cemedy_n to_o escape_v her_o snare_n and_o deceit_n furthermore_n she_o assault_v not_o only_o my_o body_n but_o also_o my_o mind_n with_o diverse_a and_o strange_a imagination_n and_o thought_n for_o the_o which_o to_o avoid_v likewise_o i_o judge_v it_o the_o best_a remedy_n to_o cast_v my_o mind_n upon_o my_o saviour_n christ_n and_o continual_o to_o behold_v his_o death_n passion_n &_o martyrdom_n as_o also_o to_o remender_n the_o pame_n of_o hell_n the_o straitnes_n of_o the_o last_o judgement_n and_o my_o small_a enâ—e_n and_o that_o i_o must_v appear_v before_o the_o tribunal_n seat_n of_o god_n to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o god_n bridle_v i_o with_o a_o bit_n call_v shamefastness_n that_o i_o shall_v not_o curious_o behold_v and_o love_v vanity_n for_o it_o be_v dangerous_a to_o behold_v that_o which_o be_v forbid_v quietness_n or_o diligence_n be_v the_o chief_a and_o whensoever_o thou_o do_v feed_v i_o with_o these_o herb_n than_o our_o acquaintance_n and_o friend_n ship_n will_v continue_v &_o abide_v for_o ever_o &_o i_o will_v soons_o bring_v thou_o to_o that_o speech_n of_o my_o master_n the_o counsel_n and_o doctrine_n of_o the_o page_n do_v delight_v desire_n &_o say_v see_v thou_o have_v make_v i_o acquaint_v with_o thy_o nature_n and_o desire_n i_o will_v diligent_o endeavour_n myself_o to_o procure_v and_o get_v these_o herb_n for_o to_o give_v they_o unto_o thou_o after_o this_o they_o both_o continue_v in_o samiliaritie_n one_o with_o another_o a_o long_a time_n and_o desire_v have_v convenient_a time_n and_o opportunity_n say_v unto_o he_o i_o beseech_v thou_o show_v i_o so_o much_o favour_n as_o to_o bring_v i_o to_o thy_o lord_n willing_o quoth_v neighbourly_a love_n for_o thou_o have_v do_v thy_o endeavour_n since_o thou_o have_v be_v with_o i_o but_o tarry_v here_o a_o brother_n what_o do_v thou_o look_v for_o or_o what_o be_v thy_o desire_n sir_n quoth_v desire_v i_o look_v for_o that_o love_n of_o god_n i_o be_o be_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o as_o soon_o as_o desire_n do_v hear_v this_o fall_v in_o a_o sound_n but_o the_o love_n of_o god_n take_v he_o by_o the_o hand_n and_o lift_v he_o up_o reviue_v he_o again_o and_o when_o he_o see_v the_o friend_n in_o a_o place_n where_o they_o shall_v see_v god_n which_o be_v the_o great_a blessedness_n of_o at_o the_o world_n this_o good_a and_o holy_a mind_n of_o desire_n do_v delight_n the_o love_n of_o god_n not_o a_o little_a &_o be_v a_o occasion_n that_o he_o love_v he_o the_o more_o for_o it_o i_o marvel_v my_o lord_n quoth_v desire_n see_v your_o highness_n be_v so_o noble_a a_o prince_n that_o your_o grace_n put_v those_o that_o come_v to_o seek_v you_o to_o such_o pain_n and_o travail_n and_o be_v so_o hardly_o so_o be_v find_v out_o hold_v thy_o peace_n answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n this_o mystery_n be_v hide_v from_o many_o for_o some_o there_o be_v who_o think_v they_o have_v not_o find_v i_o nor_o know_v i_o yet_o i_o nowtstāting_v be_o always_o near_o they_o and_o they_o be_v fill_v and_o replenish_v with_o i_o and_o some_o there_o be_v likewise_o who_o persuade_v themselves_o that_o they_o have_v find_v i_o who_o be_v yet_o far_o from_o i_o and_o know_v i_o not_o i_o pray_v your_o highness_n theefore_o quoth_v desire_n to_o let_v i_o understande_v your_o nature_n and_o condition_n that_o i_o may_v know_v thereby_o whether_o i_o be_o near_a or_o far_o from_o you_o for_o i_o take_v you_o for_o my_o lord_n and_o master_n my_o exercise_n and_o office_n be_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n to_o love_n god_n &_o i_o be_o a_o child_n of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n in_o what_o sort_n do_v you_o love_v god_n quoth_v desire_n i_o have_v answer_v the_o love_n of_o god_n a_o desire_n to_o wish_v for_o he_o with_o all_o my_o heart_n &_o with_o all_o the_o strength_n and_o force_n of_o my_o soul_n and_o to_o find_v he_o i_o leave_v nothing_o undo_v use_v all_o mean_n thereunto_o possible_a and_o that_o i_o may_v know_v he_o the_o better_a
