we_o manifest_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o filthiness_n but_o it_o be_v otherwise_o with_o god_n god_n be_v great_a in_o power_n and_o in_o that_o keep_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o holiness_n and_o god_n manifest_v here_o the_o greatness_n of_o his_o wrath_n upon_o his_o enemy_n and_o yet_o the_o glory_n of_o his_o holiness_n too_o it_o be_v a_o very_a hard_a thing_n for_o man_n to_o do_v so_o let_v man_n have_v their_o anger_n stir_v a_o little_a o_o how_o much_o filth_n do_v they_o present_o discover_v how_o many_o have_v we_o that_o all_o the_o while_o they_o be_v please_v be_v exceed_v meek_a and_o love_a but_o let_v any_o thing_n stir_v their_o passion_n and_o o_o what_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o filth_n appear_v like_o a_o pond_n that_o be_v full_a of_o mud_n at_o the_o bottom_n and_o clear_a at_o top_n but_o stir_v it_o a_o little_a and_o then_o it_o be_v nothing_o but_o filth_n a_o father_n or_o a_o mother_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o be_v displease_v with_o a_o child_n or_o correct_v it_o but_o abundance_n of_o corruption_n come_v with_o that_o anger_n and_o so_o a_o governor_n a_o servant_n who_o can_v execute_v justice_n upon_o other_o but_o there_o will_v be_v much_o of_o self_n self-end_n and_o self-interest_n but_o now_o here_o be_v the_o glory_n of_o god_n that_o when_o he_o manife_v his_o wrath_n though_o it_o be_v sore_a wrath_n yet_o he_o be_v glorious_a in_o holiness_n in_o great_a wrath_n he_o be_v infinite_o powerful_a in_o his_o wrath_n and_o in_o the_o execution_n of_o his_o judgement_n and_o yet_o infinite_a in_o holiness_n too_o therefore_o the_o vial_n of_o god_n wrath_n be_v say_v to_o be_v of_o gold_n which_o be_v the_o pure_a mettle_n so_o be_v god_n in_o the_o execute_n of_o his_o judgement_n o_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o imitate_v god_n in_o this_o thou_o that_o have_v a_o passionate_a spirit_n and_o be_v soon_o provoke_v and_o discover_v abundance_n of_o filthiness_n see_v how_o unlike_a thou_o be_v unto_o god_n though_o thou_o shall_v be_v displease_v with_o that_o which_o be_v sinful_a and_o may_v correct_v thy_o child_n and_o servant_n yet_o be_v sure_a to_o keep_v that_o which_o be_v the_o beauty_n of_o all_o in_o thy_o correct_v of_o other_o and_o that_o be_v holiness_n again_o this_o title_n be_v give_v to_o god_n here_o because_o in_o this_o great_a work_n of_o his_o he_o do_v manifest_v his_o faithfulness_n in_o fulfil_v of_o his_o promise_n to_o his_o people_n many_o promise_v god_n have_v make_v to_o his_o church_n for_o their_o preservation_n and_o deliverance_n and_o god_n in_o this_o work_n of_o his_o do_v fulfil_v these_o promise_n now_o god_n faithfulness_n be_v a_o branch_n of_o his_o holiness_n therefore_o because_o he_o manifest_v his_o faithfulness_n in_o this_o work_n moses_n and_o the_o people_n extol_v his_o name_n by_o this_o title_n glorious_a in_o holiness_n it_o be_v observable_a and_o it_o be_v of_o great_a use_n to_o we_o that_o god_n faithfulness_n be_v a_o branch_n of_o his_o holiness_n if_o you_o compare_v two_o scripture_n you_o will_v find_v it_o so_o isaiah_n 55._o 3._o say_v god_n i_o will_v make_v a_o everlasting_a covenant_n with_o you_o even_o the_o sure_a mercy_n of_o david_n and_o this_o scripture_n be_v quote_v act_n 13._o 34._o i_o will_v give_v you_o the_o sure_a mercy_n of_o david_n so_o we_o read_v it_o but_o in_o the_o original_n it_o be_v the_o holy_a and_o faithful_a thing_n of_o david_n so_o that_o when_o god_n come_v to_o show_v mercy_n according_a to_o his_o word_n he_o do_v manifest_v the_o glory_n of_o his_o holiness_n and_o not_o only_o above_o the_o heathen_a god_n so_o that_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o he_o among_o they_o but_o he_o be_v lift_v up_o above_o whatever_o have_v any_o excellency_n in_o it_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o thou_o among_o the_o mighty_n who_o ever_o be_v mighty_a &_o great_a or_o let_v there_o be_v what_o might_n and_o greatness_n and_o excellency_n soever_o in_o the_o world_n primitive_o in_o he_o he_o be_v of_o himself_o and_o from_o himself_o and_o for_o himself_o and_o then_o none_o can_v communicate_v himself_o so_o as_o god_n can_v none_o can_v inflict_v evil_a or_o convey_v good_a so_o as_o god_n can_v and_o that_o this_o expression_n of_o god_n have_v reference_n too_o for_o it_o be_v peculiar_a to_o god_n to_o communicate_v as_o much_o of_o himself_o as_o he_o will_v which_o no_o creature_n can_v do_v though_o the_o creature_n have_v but_o little_a some_o drop_n only_o of_o goodness_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o infinite_a ocean_n that_o be_v in_o god_n yet_o the_o creature_n can_v communicate_v of_o those_o drop_n as_o it_o will_v it_o be_v the_o propriety_n of_o god_n only_o to_o communicate_v of_o his_o goodness_n as_o he_o will_n and_o not_o only_o so_o but_o he_o can_v make_v the_o creature_n that_o he_o communicate_v his_o goodness_n to_o to_o be_v as_o sensible_a of_o his_o goodness_n as_o he_o please_v which_o none_o else_o can_v do_v though_o one_o creature_n can_v communicate_v good_a to_o another_o yet_o it_o can_v make_v that_o creature_n as_o sensible_a of_o that_o good_a as_o it_o will_v which_o god_n can_v do_v and_o so_o in_o inflict_v of_o evil_n there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o the_o lord_n in_o that_o the_o lord_n be_v able_a to_o let_v out_o all_o evil_a to_o bring_v all_o evil_a at_o once_o which_o none_o else_o can_v do_v and_o he_o be_v able_a to_o make_v the_o creature_n upon_o who_o he_o inflict_v a_o evil_a to_o be_v as_o sensible_a of_o that_o evil_a as_o he_o will_v one_o that_o hurt_v another_o yet_o can_v make_v he_o as_o sensible_a of_o that_o hurt_n as_o he_o please_v but_o this_o be_v the_o propriety_n of_o god_n as_o he_o can_v bring_v all_o evil_a together_o so_o he_o be_v able_a to_o make_v the_o creature_n as_o sensible_a of_o all_o as_o he_o will_v and_o god_n challenge_v this_o as_o his_o own_o propriety_n that_o he_o alone_o can_v do_v good_a and_o he_o alone_o can_v do_v evil_a and_o therefore_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o he_o from_o hence_o it_o follow_v then_o that_o there_o be_v none_o to_o be_v worship_v as_o the_o lord_n there_o be_v none_o to_o be_v honour_v as_o the_o lord_n the_o heathen_a god_n because_o they_o do_v but_o communicate_v some_o particular_a good_a therefore_o they_o challenge_v but_o particular_a service_n external_a worship_n and_o worship_n in_o some_o particular_n will_v serve_v the_o heathen_a god_n and_o they_o be_v satisfy_v with_o it_o and_o require_v no_o more_o and_o there_o be_v reason_n for_o it_o because_o they_o can_v not_o challenge_v to_o themselves_o a_o communication_n of_o a_o universal_a good_a for_o one_o god_n be_v for_o one_o particular_a good_a and_o another_o for_o another_o particular_a good_a and_o therefore_o they_o have_v but_o particular_a worship_n suitable_a thereunto_o but_o now_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o the_o lord_n he_o challenge_v a_o universal_a worship_n and_o obedience_n thou_o shall_v worship_v the_o lord_n thy_o god_n with_o all_o thy_o heart_n and_o soul_n and_o strength_n so_o that_o there_o be_v no_o such_o worship_n to_o be_v give_v to_o any_o as_o be_v give_v to_o god_n and_o all_o because_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o he_o in_o the_o excellency_n of_o his_o nature_n and_o in_o the_o way_n of_o communicate_v of_o himself_o unto_o his_o creature_n now_o this_o that_o i_o have_v speak_v be_v exceed_v useful_a in_o the_o whole_a course_n of_o our_o life_n in_o order_v of_o our_o way_n and_o thought_n towards_o god_n consider_v how_o useful_a this_o be_v thus_o it_o shall_v be_v our_o care_n in_o behold_v any_o beauty_n any_o good_a or_o excellency_n in_o the_o creature_n to_o keep_v still_o in_o our_o thought_n and_o heart_n the_o sense_n and_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o that_o creature_n the_o want_n of_o this_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o almost_o all_o the_o evil_a that_o there_o be_v in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o true_a apprehension_n of_o this_o be_v a_o special_a mean_n to_o enable_v we_o to_o glorify_v god_n as_o a_o god_n i_o say_v thus_o when_o thou_o behold_v any_o excellency_n beauty_n or_o comeliness_n in_o a_o creature_n and_o taste_v any_o sweetness_n in_o it_o be_v sure_a thou_o do_v then_o keep_v in_o thy_o heart_n the_o sense_n of_o this_o truth_n that_o though_o there_o be_v some_o sweetness_n here_o yet_o god_n be_v infinite_o above_o the_o creature_n and_o there_o be_v a_o infinite_a disproportion_n between_o that_o good_a and_o beauty_n and_o excellency_n that_o be_v in_o these_o creature_n and_o that_o which_o be_v in_o god_n himself_o god_n give_v we_o leave_v to_o let_v out_o our_o heart_n upon_o and_o to_o take_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n when_o we_o see_v a_o beauty_n and_o excellency_n in_o it_o and_o that_o because_o it_o be_v his_o similitude_n upon_o the_o creature_n and_o it_o be_v god_n excellency_n that_o be_v there_o and_o a_o spiritual_a heart_n have_v more_o freedom_n to_o let_v out_o itself_o to_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n than_o any_o in_o the_o world_n beside_o because_o he_o can_v meet_v with_o and_o taste_n god_n there_o but_o though_o god_n give_v we_o leave_v to_o do_v this_o yet_o evermore_o so_o that_o we_o be_v sure_a to_o reserve_v our_o heart_n to_o god_n to_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o infinite_a excellency_n that_o be_v in_o god_n above_o any_o creature_n and_o if_o we_o be_v not_o careful_a of_o this_o we_o shall_v soon_o fall_v off_o from_o glorify_v god_n as_o god_n and_o our_o heart_n will_v stick_v in_o the_o creature_n and_o this_o have_v be_v the_o ground_n of_o all_o the_o outward_a idolatry_n and_o spiritual_a idolatry_n in_o the_o world_n of_o outward_a idolatry_n which_o do_v arise_v thus_o man_n at_o first_o see_v some_o excellency_n and_o worth_n in_o the_o creature_n as_o the_o sun_n and_o moon_n and_o star_n they_o do_v acknowledge_v god_n above_o they_o and_o that_o these_o be_v but_o creature_n and_o that_o there_o be_v more_o excellency_n in_o god_n then_o in_o any_o of_o these_o but_o at_o last_o come_v to_o look_v upon_o the_o creature_n too_o much_o and_o be_v take_v with_o the_o excellency_n they_o see_v there_o their_o heart_n stick_v in_o the_o creature_n and_o they_o lose_v the_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a
excellency_n of_o god_n above_o the_o creature_n and_o so_o fall_v from_o god_n and_o worship_v they_o that_o be_v no_o god_n and_o so_o for_o spiritual_a idolatry_n those_o that_o commit_v idolatry_n with_o riches_n or_o any_o creature_n come_v to_o they_o at_o first_o and_o say_v to_o they_o how_o do_v you_o apprehend_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n be_v there_o not_o infinite_o more_o in_o god_n then_o there_o be_v in_o the_o creature_n yes_o they_o will_v say_v i_o but_o by_o let_v our_o heart_n out_o upon_o the_o creature_n and_o by_o pore_v upon_o the_o beauty_n of_o the_o creature_n we_o begin_v at_o length_n to_o lose_v the_o power_n of_o this_o apprehension_n that_o be_v at_o first_o upon_o our_o heart_n and_o so_o commit_v spiritual_a idolatry_n with_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v be_v our_o care_n to_o keep_v entire_a and_o fresh_a our_o apprehension_n and_o sense_n of_o that_o infinite_a distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o all_o the_o comfort_n of_o the_o creature_n and_o so_o long_o as_o thou_o do_v keep_v thy_o apprehension_n fresh_a and_o strong_a here_o there_o be_v no_o danger_n and_o thou_o sin_v not_o in_o let_v thyself_o out_o to_o the_o creature_n if_o it_o have_v not_o abate_v thy_o apprehension_n of_o the_o infinite_a disporportion_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o all_o creature_n therefore_o now_o see_v there_o be_v a_o infinite_a stupendous_a height_n of_o excellency_n in_o god_n above_o all_o creature_n there_o shall_v be_v the_o like_a thought_n in_o our_o heart_n towards_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n thus_o as_o there_o be_v a_o infinite_a distance_n between_o the_o excellency_n of_o god_n and_o the_o excellency_n of_o all_o creature_n so_o there_o aught_o to_o be_v a_o kind_n of_o infiniteness_n in_o the_o distance_n and_o disproportion_n between_o that_o esteem_n and_o delight_n and_o dependence_n we_o have_v in_o and_o upon_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o we_o have_v in_o and_o upon_o god_n therefore_o you_o shall_v not_o satisfy_v yourselves_o in_o this_o that_o you_o acknowledge_v god_n above_o the_o creature_n for_o all_o will_v do_v so_o but_o you_o be_v to_o find_v in_o your_o soul_n such_o a_o disproportion_n between_o your_o esteem_n and_o joy_n and_o desire_v after_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o you_o have_v after_o god_n as_o be_v somewhat_o like_o the_o distance_n that_o there_o be_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n now_o the_o distance_n be_v infinite_a that_o be_v between_o god_n and_o the_o creature_n therefore_o there_o shall_v be_v a_o kind_n of_o infiniteness_n in_o the_o distance_n between_o your_o esteem_n of_o and_o the_o work_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o endeavour_n after_o the_o creature_n and_o that_o esteem_v and_o work_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o soul_n which_o you_o have_v towards_o god_n and_o this_o be_v to_o glorify_v god_n as_o a_o god_n this_o be_v the_o soul_n worship_n we_o owe_v to_o god_n in_o the_o world_n this_o be_v the_o true_a sanctify_v of_o the_o name_n of_o god_n when_o this_o come_v practical_o upon_o our_o heart_n second_o if_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o god_n than_o it_o follow_v that_o there_o be_v none_o like_o to_o the_o people_n of_o god_n for_o as_o a_o man_n god_n be_v so_o be_v he_o look_v what_o god_n a_o man_n choose_v he_o be_v as_o his_o god_n be_v a_o covetous_a man_n if_o he_o make_v riches_n his_o god_n he_o be_v so_o to_o be_v judge_v and_o so_o a_o voluptous_a man_n or_o a_o heathen_a now_o if_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n have_v choose_v the_o very_a issue_n of_o the_o great_a design_n of_o god_n in_o make_v the_o world_n and_o of_o all_o the_o work_v he_o do_v in_o the_o world_n and_o the_o high_a good_a any_o creature_n be_v spiritual_a thing_n that_o be_v the_o object_n of_o faith_n how_o do_v spiritual_a thing_n tune_n and_o raise_v the_o heart_n of_o man_n that_o be_v low_a and_o base_a and_o drossy_a and_o vile_a before_o to_o converse_v with_o god_n in_o the_o high_a way_n and_o kind_n that_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o a_o creature_n to_o converse_v with_o god_n in_o and_o what_o great_a thing_n do_v they_o enable_v the_o soul_n to_o do_v those_o thing_n that_o have_v such_o a_o substantial_a operation_n must_v needs_o be_v real_a and_o substantial_a last_o they_o have_v a_o eternal_a subsistency_n that_o shall_v never_o vanish_v or_o fade_v away_o that_o when_o all_o other_o thing_n shall_v wither_v as_o the_o grass_n spiritual_a and_o heavenly_a thing_n shall_v abide_v for_o ever_o therefore_o they_o be_v the_o only_a substantial_a thing_n but_o then_o as_o they_o be_v thus_o in_o themselves_o so_o how_o come_v they_o to_o be_v thus_o to_o the_o soul_n why_o it_o be_v by_o faith_n faith_n give_v they_o the_o bottom_n the_o foundation_n the_o substantiallity_n of_o their_o be_v and_o i_o note_v this_o the_o rather_o because_o the_o great_a reason_n why_o our_o heart_n be_v not_o take_v and_o the_o evil_a of_o that_o the_o freedom_n from_o the_o slavery_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o the_o freedom_n from_o the_o ceremonial_a law_n but_o neither_o must_v we_o seek_v to_o gripe_v all_o these_o particular_n to_o show_v you_o our_o freedom_n in_o these_o i_o shall_v only_o pitch_v upon_o one_o and_o that_o be_v our_o freedom_n from_o the_o law_n if_o the_o son_n therefore_o shall_v make_v you_o free_a you_o shall_v be_v free_a indeed_o the_o doctrine_n of_o freedom_n from_o the_o law_n be_v the_o subject_n that_o we_o be_v to_o handle_v at_o this_o time_n and_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o freedom_n from_o the_o law_n i_o mean_v not_o freedom_n from_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n it_o be_v a_o erroneous_a conceit_n to_o think_v we_o be_v free_v from_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n and_o it_o be_v a_o conceit_n too_o mean_a and_o absurd_a for_o we_o to_o spend_v time_n about_o it_o now_o that_o have_v so_o little_a and_o have_v to_o deal_v in_o a_o matter_n of_o so_o great_a consequence_n as_o we_o have_v for_o what_o be_v the_o law_n but_o the_o image_n of_o god_n the_o very_a beam_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n himself_o if_o you_o look_v at_o it_o as_o require_v obedience_n and_o for_o any_o to_o say_v we_o shall_v be_v free_v from_o obedience_n to_o the_o law_n be_v as_o much_o as_o to_o say_v we_o shall_v be_v free_v from_o the_o image_n of_o god_n from_o the_o beam_n of_o the_o wisdom_n and_o holiness_n of_o god_n himself_o therefore_o we_o will_v spend_v no_o time_n about_o that_o but_o when_o i_o speak_v of_o freedom_n from_o the_o law_n i_o mean_v freedom_n from_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n from_o the_o condemn_a sentence_n of_o the_o law_n in_o which_o all_o the_o rigour_n of_o it_o appear_v wherefore_o then_o it_o be_v necessary_a first_o to_o give_v you_o a_o view_n of_o the_o bondage_n that_o we_o be_v all_o in_o under_o the_o law_n unless_o deliver_v by_o christ_n and_o then_o second_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o open_a to_o you_o wherein_o the_o liberty_n of_o the_o gospel_n do_v consist_v that_o christ_n have_v purchase_v for_o we_o these_o two_o thing_n brethren_n have_v in_o they_o the_o chief_a doctrine_n of_o divinity_n and_o except_o you_o be_v well_o instruct_v and_o settle_v in_o these_o two_o you_o can_v know_v aright_o any_o point_n of_o religion_n for_o the_o first_o i_o will_v be_v but_o brief_a in_o that_o though_o there_o be_v many_o particular_n in_o it_o for_o it_o be_v the_o second_o i_o chief_o intend_v and_o for_o a_o preparation_n to_o this_o first_o this_o i_o shall_v tell_v you_o before_o hand_n that_o i_o shall_v name_v many_o thing_n unto_o you_o that_o will_v seem_v exceed_o hard_a but_o yet_o take_v this_o consideration_n along_o that_o although_o the_o thing_n i_o name_v to_o you_o appear_v never_o so_o hard_a yet_o they_o be_v but_o in_o order_n to_o that_o which_o i_o shall_v afterward_o deliver_v to_o you_o that_o shall_v have_v much_o comfort_n and_o peace_n in_o it_o if_o i_o tell_v you_o any_o thing_n of_o your_o bondage_n it_o be_v only_o to_o this_o end_n that_o you_o may_v know_v the_o blessedness_n of_o your_o freedom_n and_o liberty_n wherefore_o then_o for_o the_o rigour_n of_o the_o law_n that_o you_o may_v know_v what_o you_o be_v free_v from_o you_o must_v know_v what_o this_o be_v and_o what_o you_o be_v all_o under_o by_o nature_n as_o consider_v out_o of_o christ_n for_o so_o the_o holy_a ghost_n express_v our_o subjection_n to_o the_o law_n he_o say_v we_o be_v
