set_v forth_o the_o member_n of_o christ_n by_o the_o olive_n tree_n and_o to_o sweet_a oil_n the_o one_o full_a of_o fatness_n the_o other_o full_a of_o sweetness_n so_o the_o inward_a man_n make_v a_o man_n fat_a that_o be_v rich_a in_o grace_n and_o like_o oil_n as_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o be_v to_o cheer_v and_o beautify_v the_o countenance_n so_o do_v grace_n it_o sweeten_v the_o soul_n and_o make_v it_o beautiful_a unto_o god_n therefore_o let_v this_o move_v you_o to_o strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n that_o thereby_o you_o may_v please_v god_n the_o three_o motive_n to_o persuade_v you_o to_o strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n be_v this_o because_o this_o inward_a strength_n draw_v on_o the_o outward_a strength_n more_o prosperous_a now_o who_o will_v motive_n not_o thrive_v in_o the_o thing_n of_o the_o world_n but_o if_o you_o turn_v it_o the_o contrary_n will_v not_o hold_v so_o for_o the_o outward_a strength_n will_v not_o draw_v on_o the_o inward_a strength_n therefore_o our_o saviour_n say_v seek_v you_o first_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n and_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o and_o all_o other_o thing_n shall_v be_v add_v unto_o you_o that_o be_v the_o way_n for_o you_o to_o thrive_v in_o the_o outward_a man_n be_v to_o get_v strength_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n first_o seek_v you_o first_o christ_n and_o grace_n and_o holiness_n and_o then_o the_o effect_n will_v follow_v all_o thing_n that_o be_v whatsoever_o you_o shall_v stand_v in_o need_n of_o shall_v be_v give_v you_o and_o in_o the_o 48_o of_o isaiah_n 18._o as_o the_o wise_a man_n say_v that_o the_o reward_n of_o holiness_n 22._o be_v riches_n and_o honour_n and_o life_n that_o be_v be_v that_o be_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n shall_v have_v whatsoever_o may_v be_v necessary_a oâ—_n good_a for_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v strive_v to_o grow_v strong_a in_o the_o inward_a man_n that_o be_v to_o be_v full_a of_o grace_n and_o spiritual_a wisdom_n especial_o against_o evil_a day_n that_o when_o they_o come_v we_o may_v have_v strength_n to_o bear_v they_o now_o the_o inward_a man_n will_v bear_v a_o mountain_n of_o affection_n and_o reproach_n which_o will_v press_v and_o squeise_v the_o outward_a man_n to_o powder_n a_o sound_a heart_n will_v bear_v his_o infirmity_n but_o a_o wound_a conscience_n who_o can_v inward_a man_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o you_o shall_v bear_v they_o therefore_o let_v we_o not_o busy_v ourselves_o about_o fantasy_n and_o vain_a thing_n that_o will_v stand_v we_o in_o no_o stead_n but_o let_v we_o labour_n to_o strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n the_o four_o motive_n to_o persuade_v you_o to_o strengthen_v the_o inward_a motive_n man_n be_v because_o a_o man_n be_v this_o for_o this_o be_v that_o that_o make_v they_o effectual_a and_o make_v a_o difference_n betwixt_o man_n samson_n be_v strong_a and_o so_o be_v other_o man_n but_o samson_n be_v strong_a than_o otherman_n because_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n and_o it_o be_v say_v oâ—_n john_n the_o baptist_n that_o he_o come_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o eliah_n that_o be_v he_o have_v the_o same_o spirit_n you_o etc._n etc._n that_o you_o may_v be_v strengthen_v by_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o inward_a man_n that_o be_v if_o you_o will_v knowwhat_o will_v strengthen_v you_o it_o be_v the_o spirit_n hence_o note_v this_o point_n that_o whatsoever_o save_v or_o sanctify_v grace_n or_o strength_n of_o grace_n any_o man_n have_v it_o all_o proceed_v from_o the_o sanctify_a spirit_n i_o doctr._n the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n and_o be_v send_v into_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n to_o work_v grace_n and_o holiness_n in_o they_o and_o it_o must_v needs_o be_v so_o that_o the_o holy_a ghost_n be_v the_o only_a worker_n and_o strengthener_n of_o grace_n because_o proceed_v from_o such_o a_o holy_a fountain_n as_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n be_v the_o fruit_n must_v needs_o be_v holy_a and_o the_o way_n to_o get_v sanctification_n and_o holiness_n be_v to_o get_v the_o holy_a spirit_n now_o in_o that_o that_o be_v send_v to_o sanctify_v two_o thing_n be_v to_o be_v require_v first_o he_o that_o be_v send_v to_o sanctify_v must_v proceed_v from_o a_o 1._o holy_a fountain_n but_o the_o spirit_n do_v proceed_v from_o a_o most_o holy_a fountain_n and_o pure_a which_o be_v god_n therefore_o it_o can_v choose_v but_o be_v a_o holy_a work_n that_o he_o work_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o be_v require_v in_o he_o that_o be_v send_v to_o 2._o sanctify_v be_v this_o that_o he_o subsist_v in_o sanctification_n that_o be_v that_o he_o depend_v not_o upon_o another_o for_o sanctification_n but_o that_o he_o be_v able_a to_o sanctify_v of_o himself_o now_o this_o be_v the_o excellency_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n he_o be_v sanctification_n and_o holiness_n itself_o that_o be_v subsist_v in_o sanctification_n and_o abound_v in_o holiness_n and_o therefore_o able_a to_o strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n but_o that_o you_o may_v more_o full_o understand_v this_o point_n i_o will_v show_v you_o how_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v the_o inward_a man_n work_v holiness_n and_o sanctification_n and_o this_o will_v appear_v in_o four_o thing_n especial_o the_o first_o way_n how_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v grace_n in_o the_o wor_n the_o soul_n be_v this_o by_o give_v unto_o the_o soul_n a_o effectual_a operative_a and_o digestive_a faculty_n that_o be_v by_o rear_v the_o inward_a man_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o set_v up_o the_o build_n of_o grace_n and_o this_o he_o do_v by_o shed_v abroad_o in_o the_o heart_n the_o bless_a effect_n of_o grace_n into_o every_o faculty_n even_o as_o the_o blood_n be_v in_o use_v into_o every_o vain_a or_o as_o the_o soul_n go_v through_o every_o part_n of_o the_o body_n and_o so_o give_v life_n unto_o it_o so_o do_v the_o spirit_n go_v through_o all_o the_o part_n of_o the_o soul_n by_o infuse_v spiritual_a life_n and_o power_n into_o they_o therefore_o the_o apostle_n call_v it_o in_o the_o ephes_n 4._o his_o effectual_a power_n that_o be_v 4._o he_o have_v such_o efficacy_n in_o work_v that_o he_o infuse_v spiritual_a life_n into_o the_o soul._n the_o second_o way_n how_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v grace_n be_v this_o wor._n when_o he_o have_v set_v up_o the_o building_n and_o sweep_v every_o corner_n of_o the_o soul_n then_o he_o enable_v the_o soul_n to_o do_v more_o than_o it_o can_v do_v by_o nature_n that_o be_v by_o put_v new_a habit_n and_o quality_n into_o the_o soul_n as_o first_o when_o a_o man_n can_v do_v no_o more_o than_o a_o natural_a man_n can_v do_v by_o nature_n than_o the_o spirit_n fortify_v and_o enable_v the_o soul_n to_o act_v holy_o and_o spiritual_o as_o for_o example_n any_o hand_n can_v cut_v with_o a_o cheesil_n or_o the_o like_a instrument_n but_o if_o he_o can_v by_o it_o make_v a_o picture_n this_o be_v a_o work_n above_o nature_n no_o man_n can_v do_v it_o unless_o he_o have_v art_n and_o time_n about_o it_o so_o when_o the_o spirit_n come_v into_o the_o heart_n than_o it_o make_v a_o man_n to_o do_v more_o than_o he_o can_v natural_o do_v water_n you_o know_v of_o itself_o be_v cold_a but_o if_o you_o will_v have_v it_o of_o another_o quality_n than_o you_o must_v put_v a_o quality_n of_o fire_n in_o it_o so_o the_o soul_n be_v dead_a and_o cold_a by_o nature_n but_o if_o a_o quality_n of_o the_o fire_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v add_v unto_o it_o than_o it_o will_v be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o than_o it_o natural_o can_v do_v therefore_o examine_v what_o new_a habit_n and_o quality_n be_v in_o you_o that_o be_v whether_o you_o have_v new_a habit_n of_o patience_n love_n hope_v experience_n that_o be_v as_o patience_n beget_v experience_n and_o experience_n hope_v so_o where_o the_o spirit_n be_v it_o do_v beget_v new_a habit_n and_o quality_n in_o the_o soul_n by_o which_o it_o be_v able_a to_o do_v more_o then_o natural_o it_o can_v do_v as_o i_o say_v it_o first_o build_v the_o house_n and_o sweep_v the_o room_n and_o then_o it_o fill_v and_o furnish_v the_o room_n with_o new_a habit_n and_o quality_n of_o grace_n the_o three_o way_n how_o the_o spirit_n strengthen_v grace_n be_v this_o when_o it_o have_v give_v we_o new_a habit_n than_o it_o enable_v wor._n and_o help_v we_o to_o use_v those_o habit_n to_o good_a when_o we_o have_v they_o for_o herein_o appear_v the_o power_n and_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o spirit_n not_o only_o to_o give_v spiritual_a life_n and_o strength_n but_o also_o to_o enable_v we_o to_o the_o use_n of_o that_o strength_n for_o the_o strengthen_n of_o the_o inward_a man_n there_o may_v be_v quality_n and_o habit_n in_o the_o soul_n and_o yet_o want_v of_o power_n to_o use_v they_o as_o for_o example_n a_o man_n that_o be_v asleep_a he_o have_v habit_n and_o quality_n but_o he_o want_v power_n to_o use_v they_o so_o it_o be_v with_o those_o that_o be_v not_o strengthen_v in_o the_o inward_a man_n but_o he_o that_o have_v the_o spirit_n have_v power_n withal_o to_o use_v those_o habit_n to_o good_a therefore_o it_o be_v say_v that_o they_o speak_v as_o the_o spirit_n give_v they_o utterance_n that_o be_v they_o have_v power_n from_o the_o spirit_n to_o speak_v to_o do_v and_o use_v those_o habit_n that_o be_v in_o they_o
meditate_v power_n to_o love_n power_n to_o obey_v all_o above_o nature_n and_o a_o power_n to_o forsake_v life_n and_o liberty_n riches_n and_o honour_n pleasure_n and_o all_o thing_n which_o no_o man_n will_v do_v except_o he_o have_v the_o spirit_n second_o as_o it_o give_v a_o strength_n and_o a_o excellent_a quality_n above_o nature_n so_o it_o add_v unto_o it_o holiness_n that_o be_v it_o put_v a_o tincture_n of_o goodness_n upon_o all_o your_o action_n it_o warm_v the_o gift_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o put_v the_o heart_n in_o a_o frame_n of_o grace_n many_o man_n have_v a_o kind_n of_o a_o true_a holy_a man_n it_o be_v with_o a_o holy_a man_n in_o this_o case_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o spouse_n she_o be_v separate_v from_o other_o and_o unite_v to_o her_o husband_n be_v join_v to_o the_o spirit_n have_v holiness_n with_o it_o and_o separate_v from_o sin_n the_o vessel_n in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o law_n they_o be_v holy_a vessel_n because_o they_o be_v appoint_v to_o god_n spirit_n be_v first_o to_o pull_v down_o what_o man_n corruption_n have_v build_v and_o then_o to_o lay_v the_o foundation_n of_o the_o spiritual_a building_n humility_n and_o then_o afterward_o to_o rear_v the_o building_n of_o grace_n in_o the_o soul._n as_o for_o example_n if_o you_o will_v know_v whether_o the_o plant_n receive_v virtue_n from_o the_o olive_n or_o no_o than_o you_o must_v know_v that_o first_o they_o must_v be_v cut_v off_o from_o their_o own_o stock_n and_o then_o they_o must_v be_v ingra_v into_o that_o and_o then_o see_v whether_o they_o have_v the_o fatness_n of_o the_o olive_n and_o then_o whether_o they_o bear_v the_o olive_n leave_v so_o a_o man_n that_o have_v not_o receive_v the_o the_o spirit_n by_o the_o word_n he_o shall_v see_v it_o by_o the_o ripeness_n of_o sin_n the_o corrupt_a branch_n the_o bitter_a fruit_n that_o come_v and_o be_v bring_v forth_o by_o he_o but_o on_o the_o contrary_a if_o the_o word_n by_o the_o spirit_n have_v cut_v you_o down_o and_o humble_v you_o thorough_o by_o the_o light_n of_o your_o sin_n and_o then_o ingraft_v you_o into_o christ_n by_o work_v in_o you_o a_o save_v a_o justify_v faith_n and_o if_o it_o have_v make_v you_o fat_a and_o well_o like_v in_o grace_n that_o you_o have_v bring_v forth_o better_a fruit_n than_o you_o can_v do_v before_o then_o sure_o the_o spirit_n come_v into_o the_o prerogative_n of_o doct._n which_o all_o the_o saint_n be_v partaker_n that_o they_o have_v christ_n to_o dwell_v in_o their_o heart_n the_o apostle_n pray_v for_o it_o be_v direct_v by_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o his_o prayer_n and_o therefore_o we_o shall_v esteem_v of_o it_o as_o of_o a_o great_a privilege_n and_o as_o of_o that_o of_o which_o all_o the_o saint_n be_v partaker_n because_o it_o be_v necessary_a to_o salvation_n none_o be_v save_v without_o it_o now_o for_o the_o better_a understanding_n of_o it_o i_o will_v first_o of_o all_o show_v you_o these_o two_o thing_n 1._o what_o it_o be_v to_o have_v christ_n dwell_v in_o our_o heart_n 2._o what_o benefit_n we_o receive_v by_o his_o dwell_n in_o they_o for_o the_o first_o what_o it_o be_v to_o have_v christ_n to_o dwell_v in_o our_o heart_n heart_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v that_o then_o christ_n dwell_v in_o our_o heart_n when_o as_o he_o work_v in_o they_o in_o another_o manner_n than_o he_o do_v before_o he_o have_v other_o work_n and_o we_o see_v other_o effect_n then_o former_o first_o he_o show_v himself_o kind_a and_o favourable_a to_o we_o enlighten_v give_v comfort_n refresh_v frame_v and_o rule_v ouâ—_n spirit_n that_o beâ—ore_o he_o do_v not_o and_o he_o do_v not_o in_o other_o he_o be_v say_v to_o dwell_v in_o the_o temple_n because_o his_o eye_n be_v upon_o it_o his_o ear_n be_v there_o open_a to_o hear_v the_o prayer_n of_o man_n his_o mercy_n seat_n be_v there_o it_o be_v true_a god_n fill_v heaven_n and_o earth_n yet_o he_o be_v say_v to_o dwell_v in_o the_o temple_n because_o there_o he_o manifest_v his_o peculiar_a presence_n so_o the_o phrase_n of_o the_o scripture_n be_v to_o be_v understand_v go_v not_o up_o for_o god_n be_v not_o with_o you_o that_o be_v he_o will_v in_o that_o grace_n this_o text_n will_v help_v we_o in_o both_o these_o for_o in_o this_o inquisition_n whether_o there_o be_v anygrace_n in_o our_o heart_n or_o no_o we_o must_v examine_v it_o by_o some_o character_n of_o grace_n now_o the_o principal_a character_n be_v that_o it_o make_v a_o man_n strong_a grace_n giveâ—_n a_o man_n power_n and_o strength_n which_o be_v intimate_v in_o this_o his_o own_o suffering_n be_v how_o many_o difficult_a case_n he_o have_v pass_v through_o say_v he_o thou_o be_v my_o son_n thou_o must_v go_v in_o the_o same_o step_n thy_o father_n have_v go_v before_o thou_o thou_o must_v also_o suffer_v persecution_n thou_o have_v also_o the_o ministry_n of_o grace_n commit_v to_o thou_o therefore_o be_v strong_a in_o the_o lord_n work_v but_o how_o shall_v he_o be_v strong_a say_v the_o apostle_n nothing_o strengthen_v but_o grace_n be_v strong_a through_o the_o grace_n or_o in_o the_o grace_n etc._n etc._n that_o be_v it_o be_v only_a grace_n that_o strengthen_v in_o the_o inner_a man_n that_o make_v a_o man_n able_a to_o do_v spiritual_a and_o holy_a duty_n but_o whence_o shall_v we_o have_v this_o grace_n say_v he_o be_v strong_a in_o the_o grace_n which_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n that_o be_v the_o grace_n which_o be_v receive_v from_o christ_n jesus_n not_o only_o that_o which_o be_v receive_v at_o our_o first_o conversion_n but_o which_o we_o receive_v continual_o as_o the_o air_n receive_v light_a from_o the_o sun_n by_o a_o continual_a influxion_n so_o there_o be_v a_o continual_a influence_n of_o grace_n from_o christ._n adam_n have_v grace_v original_o inherent_a in_o he_o but_o it_o be_v not_o so_o with_o we_o there_o be_v not_o that_o inherency_n though_o there_o be_v that_o also_o yet_o it_o differ_v from_o the_o other_o because_o the_o grace_n that_o we_o have_v now_o be_v whole_o receive_v from_o our_o conjunction_n with_o christ_n jesus_n we_o shall_v therefore_o present_o lose_v all_o if_o there_o be_v a_o disjunction_n between_o christ_n and_o we_o and_o that_o be_v the_o ground_n why_o we_o can_v fall_v from_o grace_n because_o we_o can_v be_v divide_v from_o christ._n now_o i_o say_v in_o these_o word_n you_o shall_v see_v a_o character_n or_o property_n of_o grace_n thou_o my_o son_n be_v strong_a in_o the_o grace_n which_o be_v in_o christ_n jesus_n this_o point_n than_o you_o when_o a_o thing_n be_v say_v to_o grow_v white_a and_o white_a etc._n etc._n so_o i_o say_v grace_n be_v a_o inherent_a quality_n which_o be_v stamp_v upon_o the_o heart_n which_o be_v beget_v in_o the_o heart_n but_o then_o i_o add_v that_o it_o be_v a_o supernatural_a quality_n that_o be_v it_o be_v such_o a_o quality_n as_o elevate_v and_o raise_v a_o man_n that_o supernatural_a enable_v a_o man_n to_o do_v more_o than_o he_o be_v able_a to_o do_v by_o the_o strength_n of_o nature_n as_o for_o example_n to_o illustrate_v it_o if_o you_o take_v water_n of_o itself_o you_o know_v it_o be_v able_a to_o make_v your_o hand_n cold_a or_o any_o thing_n that_o be_v put_v into_o it_o but_o if_o you_o will_v have_v water_n do_v any_o thing_n above_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o you_o must_v put_v in_o a_o high_a quality_n if_o you_o will_v have_v it_o heat_n you_o must_v put_v it_o to_o the_o fire_n so_o it_o be_v here_o we_o be_v able_a to_o do_v the_o thing_n agreeable_a to_o nature_n without_o any_o special_a help_n but_o when_o we_o be_v to_o do_v the_o duty_n of_o new_a obedience_n to_o please_v god_n to_o do_v thing_n that_o nature_n can_v reach_v unto_o we_o must_v have_v a_o high_a quality_n infuse_v into_o our_o heart_n therefore_o i_o say_v grace_n be_v a_o supernatural_a quality_n that_o raise_v nature_n that_o elevate_v it_o that_o help_v it_o to_o do_v more_o than_o otherwise_o it_o be_v able_a to_o do_v again_o i_o add_v that_o it_o be_v a_o supernatural_a peculiar_a quality_n peculiar_a because_o there_o be_v some_o common_a supernatural_a gift_n as_o those_o gift_n of_o temperance_n knowledge_n patience_n meekness_n and_o the_o like_a these_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o these_o be_v many_o time_n wrought_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o be_v not_o true_o sanctify_v and_o these_o be_v supernatural_a gift_n too_o but_o yet_o they_o be_v but_o common_a gift_n they_o be_v such_o gift_n as_o the_o holy_a ghost_n bestow_v upon_o those_o that_o be_v not_o elect_v to_o life_n but_o now_o save_v grace_n be_v a_o gift_n peculiar_a to_o the_o elect_n peculiar_a to_o those_o that_o be_v within_o the_o covenant_n therefore_o to_o make_v a_o distinction_n we_o put_v they_o together_o in_o the_o description_n and_o say_v it_o be_v a_o supernatural_a peculiar_a quality_n again_o further_o i_o add_v that_o it_o be_v wrought_v in_o we_o by_o the_o ghost_n holy_a ghost_n because_o no_o creature_n in_o heaven_n or_o earth_n be_v able_a to_o work_v grace_n in_o any_o man_n heart_n for_o to_o put_v grace_n into_o the_o heart_n be_v to_o put_v life_n into_o the_o heart_n now_o to_o put_v life_n into_o the_o heart_n be_v the_o property_n of_o the_o spirit_n it_o be_v he_o that_o make_v a_o man_n to_o live_v another_o life_n that_o as_o it_o be_v only_a fire_n that_o can_v beget_v heat_n so_o it_o be_v only_o the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o can_v beget_v life_n it_o be_v true_a other_o instrument_n be_v use_v the_o word_n be_v a_o instrument_n and_o holy_a man_n be_v instrument_n but_o yet_o it_o be_v the_o holy_a ghost_n that_o work_v it_o principal_o and_o all_o instrument_n can_v do_v nothing_o without_o the_o influence_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n i_o add_v again_o to_o make_v it_o yet_o more_o full_a that_o it_o be_v wrought_v god_n by_o the_o holy_a ghost_n whereby_o we_o be_v enable_v to_o please_v god_n all_o those_o other_o common_a grace_n and_o all_o the_o effect_n and_o fruit_n of_o they_o though_o the_o thing_n be_v good_a in_o themselves_o and_o supernatural_a because_o they_o come_v from_o the_o holy_a spirit_n yet_o they_o do_v not_o please_v god_n that_o be_v the_o lord_n be_v not_o so_o well_o please_v as_o to_o accept_v the_o man_n that_o be_v the_o subject_a and_o the_o agent_n of_o they_o to_o eternal_a life_n only_o by_o faith_n a_o man_n be_v able_a to_o please_v god_n and_o faith_n you_o know_v be_v the_o principle_n and_o root_n of_o all_o other_o grace_n it_o be_v nature_n and_o enable_v to_o do_v more_o than_o common_a nature_n can_v do_v consider_v therefore_o whether_o this_o grace_n cure_v those_o hereditary_a disease_n which_o we_o have_v receive_v from_o adam_n those_o disease_n which_o breed_v in_o the_o heart_n take_v any_o thing_n beside_o grace_n if_o the_o sire_n and_o the_o dam_n troth_n it_o be_v a_o hard_a thing_n to_o work_v the_o contrary_a in_o the_o offspring_n but_o grace_n be_v able_a to_o heal_v those_o disease_n that_o be_v hereditary_a if_o you_o bring_v a_o man_n to_o a_o physician_n and_o say_v such_o a_o man_n have_v a_o all_o doubt_n but_o faith_n overcome_v doubt_v that_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o it_o though_o it_o be_v assault_v with_o doubtting_n yet_o it_o overcome_v they_o and_o as_o it_o be_v the_o nature_n other_o inordinate_a desire_n whereas_o on_o the_o contrary_a when_o grace_n be_v not_o true_a you_o shall_v have_v a_o kind_n of_o faith_n and_o a_o kind_n of_o knowledge_n and_o some_o good_a purpose_n and_o desire_n and_o some_o fear_n of_o god_n but_o these_o though_o they_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n they_o be_v not_o command_v and_o prevail_a object_n that_o bring_v the_o heart_n into_o subjection_n they_o lie_v there_o glow_v as_o a_o coal_n in_o the_o dark_a but_o they_o do_v not_o overcome_v the_o darkness_n but_o still_o their_o foolish_a heart_n be_v full_a of_o darkness_n as_o the_o scripture_n say_v rom._n 1._o so_o that_o you_o must_v remember_v that_o it_o 1._o so_o heal_v these_o disease_n that_o yet_o still_o it_o get_v the_o victory_n over_o the_o disease_n though_o least_o simile_n degree_n have_v the_o victory_n over_o the_o whole_a disease_n it_o have_v overcome_v it_o we_o say_v it_o have_v not_o overcome_v it_o full_o and_o total_o yet_o that_o little_a degree_n of_o health_n run_v through_o the_o whole_a man_n and_o it_o over_o come_v the_o disease_n and_o at_o length_n grow_v strong_a and_o strong_a so_o wheresoever_o these_o heal_a quality_n of_o grace_n come_v they_o have_v so_o much_o power_n as_o to_o get_v the_o mastery_n over_o corruption_n though_o the_o natural_a corruption_n bias_n we_o and_o draw_v we_o aside_o yet_o i_o say_v they_o such_o a_o manner_n that_o he_o subjugate_v and_o leave_v his_o choice_n and_o lean_v to_o the_o other_o so_o it_o be_v when_o grace_n be_v come_v into_o the_o heart_n when_o it_o heal_v corruption_n it_o bring_v a_o man_n to_o such_o a_o pass_n that_o he_o choose_v the_o way_n of_o god_n he_o choose_v to_o serve_v god_n with_o all_o his_o heart_n with_o uprightness_n and_o he_o choose_v it_o in_o a_o fix_a resolve_a manner_n and_o though_o he_o may_v be_v bias_v and_o draw_v aside_o through_o the_o weakness_n and_o sickness_n that_o be_v leave_v yet_o behind_o yet_o i_o say_v he_o be_v pitch_v upon_o one_o object_n therefore_o he_o be_v not_o say_v to_o have_v the_o inconstancy_n of_o kind_n he_o be_v not_o instable_n in_o his_o way_n so_o that_o though_o he_o may_v be_v sometime_o carry_v out_o of_o his_o way_n yet_o because_o he_o have_v set_v himself_o whole_o to_o serve_v the_o lord_n we_o may_v say_v that_o he_o have_v a_o single_a heart_n for_o grace_n do_v not_o take_v away_o all_o unevenne_n the_o holy_a man_n that_o have_v the_o most_o grace_n yet_o that_o grace_n be_v subject_a to_o ebb_v and_o flow_v it_o be_v sometime_o in_o a_o great_a degree_n &_o sometime_o in_o a_o less_o you_o see_v a_o bowl_n that_o be_v cast_v out_o of_o a_o man_n hand_n so_o far_o as_o the_o strength_n of_o the_o man_n last_v it_o carry_v the_o bowl_n along_o to_o the_o place_n which_o he_o aim_v at_o notwithstanding_o the_o bias_n be_v at_o it_o be_v contrary_a so_o it_o be_v here_o the_o bias_n of_o corruption_n that_o be_v leave_v within_o we_o be_v not_o quite_o cut_v off_o or_o take_v away_o but_o yet_o the_o strength_n of_o grace_n with_o which_o the_o soul_n be_v first_o act_v it_o keep_v we_o along_o and_o carry_v we_o in_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n notwithstanding_o that_o bias_n that_o be_v within_o we_o that_o incline_v to_o the_o contrary_n hence_o it_o be_v that_o sometime_o the_o saint_n be_v carry_v aside_o in_o their_o way_n with_o some_o unevenness_n but_o it_o be_v the_o unevenness_n of_o degree_n i_o say_v not_o the_o unevenness_n of_o kind_n this_o i_o add_v that_o as_o we_o shall_v exclude_v those_o that_o have_v no_o grace_n notwithstanding_o they_o have_v some_o good_a intention_n towards_o god_n so_o we_o must_v be_v careful_a that_o we_o discourage_v not_o those_o that_o have_v some_o fail_v and_o some_o expression_n of_o their_o corruption_n yet_o the_o bent_n of_o their_o soul_n be_v set_v aright_o this_o then_o be_v one_o thing_n wherein_o you_o shall_v see_v the_o evident_a power_n of_o grace_n when_o it_o be_v in_o the_o heart_n it_o heal_v the_o hereditary_a disease_n of_o the_o heart_n therefore_o let_v every_o man_n examine_v himself_o by_o that_o whether_o that_o grace_n which_o be_v in_o he_o way_n of_o god_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o approve_v the_o way_n of_o god_n and_o another_o thing_n to_o delight_n in_o they_o other_o man_n that_o be_v but_o civil_a man_n may_v approve_v the_o way_n of_o god_n but_o they_o can_v delight_v in_o they_o this_o be_v more_o than_o a_o natural_a man_n can_v reach_v unto_o if_o therefore_o thou_o find_v this_o in_o thou_o be_v assure_v the_o strength_n of_o grace_n be_v there_o so_o to_o love_n god_n we_o find_v that_o peculiar_a to_o the_o saint_n that_o be_v more_o than_o any_o hypocrite_n in_o the_o world_n can_v do_v if_o any_o man_n therefore_o find_v that_o grace_n so_o strong_a in_o he_o that_o it_o make_v his_o heart_n cleave_v to_o the_o lord_n whole_o and_o long_o after_o he_o that_o he_o love_v he_o and_o seek_v his_o face_n that_o he_o love_v he_o not_o for_o other_o respect_n but_o behold_v he_o in_o his_o person_n in_o his_o attribute_n and_o in_o all_o his_o excellency_n he_o can_v love_v he_o above_o all_o thing_n this_o no_o man_n by_o nature_n can_v attain_v to_o and_o so_o to_o hate_v sin_n no_o man_n by_o nature_n can_v hate_v sin_n but_o by_o the_o power_n of_o grace_n for_o all_o hatred_n arise_v from_o contrary_a and_o only_a grace_n be_v contrary_a to_o sin_n it_o be_v grace_n that_o make_v a_o man_n a_o sin_n hater_n it_o be_v possible_a for_o another_o man_n sometime_o to_o fall_v out_o with_o sin_n and_o to_o abstain_v from_o some_o particular_a act_n of_o sin_n but_o to_o hate_v sin_n no_o man_n can_v do_v it_o natural_o for_o there_o be_v no_o man_n that_o hate_v any_o thing_n but_o he_o hate_v the_o whole_a kind_n thereof_o as_o the_o sheep_n hate_v the_o wolf_n therefore_o it_o hate_v every_o wolf_n and_o again_o hatred_n we_o know_v be_v implacable_a when_o a_o man_n be_v angry_a he_o be_v reconcile_v again_o sometime_o but_o when_o a_o man_n hate_v a_o thing_n he_o will_v have_v it_o quite_o take_v away_o now_o no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o do_v this_o but_o by_o the_o power_n of_o grace_n to_o hate_v all_o sin_n every_o where_o in_o himself_o as_o well_o as_o in_o other_o to_o hate_v it_o so_o as_o to_o desire_v to_o have_v it_o utter_o destroy_v and_o to_o be_v implacable_o out_o with_o it_o so_o as_o never_o again_o to_o be_v reconcile_v to_o it_o this_o be_v the_o property_n of_o grace_n this_o thou_o have_v that_o thou_o hate_v the_o work_n of_o the_o nicholaitan_n we_o be_v deceive_v in_o that_o when_o we_o think_v we_o hate_v sin_n because_o we_o abstain_v from_o some_o act_n of_o sin_n if_o thou_o do_v hate_v it_o thou_o will_v hate_v it_o every_o where_o and_o every_o kind_n of_o sin_n thou_o will_v not_o only_o fall_v out_o with_o it_o when_o it_o do_v thou_o a_o shrewd_a turn_n but_o thou_o will_v be_v out_o with_o it_o for_o ever_o when_o a_o man_n find_v that_o he_o can_v hate_v sin_n that_o he_o can_v love_v god_n and_o delight_n in_o his_o commandment_n and_o love_v the_o saint_n etc._n etc._n these_o be_v thing_n that_o no_o man_n can_v do_v by_o nature_n therefore_o if_o thou_o find_v these_o thing_n there_o be_v more_o in_o thou_o then_o nature_n herein_o be_v the_o strength_n of_o grace_n see_v now_o it_o be_v true_a there_o be_v other_o thing_n which_o a_o man_n may_v do_v which_o have_v not_o this_o save_a grace_n but_o grace_n have_v this_o efficacy_n that_o it_o make_v thou_o do_v more_o than_o any_o man_n will_v or_o can_v do_v by_o common_a nature_n as_o for_o example_n wheresoever_o the_o power_n of_o grace_n be_v it_o make_v a_o man_n deny_v himself_o whereas_o another_o man_n will_v not_o it_o will_v make_v a_o man_n refuse_v gain_v and_o profit_n and_o advantage_n to_o himself_o when_o another_o man_n will_v not_o it_o make_v a_o man_n able_a to_o forgive_v his_o enemy_n which_o before_o he_o can_v not_o do_v but_o you_o will_v say_v other_o man_n may_v do_v this_o that_o have_v no_o grace_n but_o they_o never_o do_v it_o in_o sincerity_n here_o be_v the_o difference_n grace_n make_v he_o have_v already_o give_v himself_o to_o christ._n but_o you_o will_v say_v what_o be_v it_o to_o give_v a_o man_n self_n to_o quest._n christ_n when_o a_o man_n be_v persuade_v of_o this_o that_o christ_n will_v take_v care_n of_o he_o and_o provide_v better_o for_o he_o then_o what_o he_o can_v himself_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o submit_v to_o christ_n and_o give_v himself_o to_o christ._n a_o man_n will_v never_o go_v off_o of_o his_o own_o bottom_n till_o he_o be_v assure_v of_o a_o better_a foundation_n and_o partly_o also_o it_o be_v do_v by_o change_v a_o man_n opinion_n of_o himself_o for_o every_o unregenerate_a man_n have_v a_o different_a opinion_n of_o himself_o to_o that_o which_o he_o have_v when_o he_o be_v regenerate_v one_o man_n think_v that_o that_o which_o consist_v in_o his_o private_a and_o outward_a happiness_n and_o safety_n and_o therefore_o his_o profit_n or_o credit_n or_o whatsoever_o may_v make_v up_o that_o that_o he_o reckon_v himself_o and_o that_o he_o will_v build_v upon_o but_o when_o a_o man_n be_v in_o christ_n his_o opinion_n be_v change_v there_o be_v a_o new_a part_n a_o regenerate_a part_n in_o he_o and_o where_o that_o be_v in_o a_o man_n reckon_v the_o regenerate_a part_n to_o be_v himself_o he_o be_v willing_a to_o be_v a_o loser_n by_o all_o other_o thing_n so_o that_o that_o self_n may_v be_v a_o gainer_n because_o he_o know_v that_o all_o this_o while_n be_v no_o loser_n in_o himself_o so_o long_o as_o he_o grow_v in_o grace_n and_o keep_v a_o good_a conscience_n so_o long_o as_o he_o know_v and_o be_v persuade_v that_o god_n will_v take_v care_n of_o he_o far_o better_o than_o himself_o can_v do_v so_o long_o the_o build_n up_o of_o himself_o go_v forward_o and_o he_o take_v care_n for_o nothing_o else_o beside_o this_o be_v for_o a_o man_n to_o give_v up_o himself_o to_o christ._n ention_n second_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o to_o give_v up_o a_o man_n self_n to_o christ_n for_o though_o his_o heart_n and_o when_o he_o do_v mind_n it_o and_o intend_v it_o and_o pray_v for_o it_o you_o must_v add_v to_o this_o faith_n without_o which_o no_o man_n can_v do_v it_o for_o this_o objection_n present_o come_v what_o must_v i_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o not_o my_o own_o what_o will_v then_o become_v of_o i_o how_o shall_v i_o provide_v for_o myself_o or_o for_o my_o family_n and_o those_o that_o depend_v upon_o i_o now_o there_o must_v be_v faith_n to_o give_v this_o answer_n the_o lord_n will_v promise_n provide_v for_o thou_o for_o till_o a_o man_n think_v that_o his_o servant_n be_v you_o diligent_a in_o my_o service_n i_o will_v take_v care_n for_o your_o meat_n and_o drink_n and_o clothing_n and_o when_o your_o apprenticeship_n be_v out_o i_o will_v give_v you_o sufficient_a to_o live_v upon_o if_o the_o servant_n believe_v this_o he_o will_v be_v willing_a to_o neglect_v all_o other_o thing_n and_o to_o seek_v his_o master_n profit_n and_o to_o intend_v his_o master_n business_n so_o here_o we_o shall_v seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n for_o say_v he_o i_o will_v provide_v for_o you_o i_o will_v take_v care_n for_o you_o you_o shall_v want_v nothing_o in_o this_o present_a life_n you_o shall_v have_v all_o thing_n necessary_a and_o when_o your_o appentiship_n be_v at_o a_o end_n i_o will_v provide_v a_o inheritance_n for_o you_o if_o you_o will_v believe_v these_o thing_n and_o these_o promise_n you_o will_v then_o seek_v the_o thing_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o not_o your_o own_o thing_n you_o have_v a_o promise_n for_o this_o mat._n 6._o seek_v you_o first_o the_o 6._o kingdom_n of_o god_n and_o the_o righteousness_n thereof_o that_o be_v mind_v this_o one_o thing_n seek_v not_o your_o own_o thing_n seek_v have_v both_o faith_n in_o the_o promise_n but_o because_o they_o have_v not_o a_o faith_n in_o the_o particular_a providence_n of_o god_n about_o the_o bestow_n of_o the_o blessing_n therefore_o we_o know_v how_o they_o miss_v so_o moses_n have_v faith_n in_o the_o promise_n that_o god_n will_v provide_v meat_n for_o a_o month_n time_n but_o he_o know_v not_o how_o therefore_o you_o see_v how_o many_o objection_n he_o bring_v shall_v all_o the_o fish_n of_o the_o sea_n be_v bring_v together_o and_o all_o the_o beast_n of_o the_o field_n etc._n etc._n therefore_o i_o say_v put_v these_o will_v say_v thus_o wiâ—h_v thyself_o i_o will_v commit_v this_o unto_o god_n i_o know_v it_o shall_v be_v reserve_v for_o i_o and_o therefore_o whatsoever_o become_v of_o these_o thing_n i_o will_v do_v the_o work_n i_o will_v do_v the_o business_n of_o christ_n i_o will_v employ_v myself_o in_o his_o service_n this_o make_v a_o man_n bold_a in_o the_o most_o difficult_a case_n so_o david_n i_o
